Good stuff, how did it go? I guess now you can go back and find that enormous treasure hoard that you guys missed the first time round... ;-)

Oops.

VotS is one I want to run for my group sometime. You've inspired us, Mothman.

Yeah, its a neat little adventure.

You guys did well in stopping those giant rats from getting out of the cage actually - nice work there (filth fever isn't much fun without access to friendly clerics!)

Alas poor Katejan, I knew him .........NOT.

Can't wait to start after the two week break.

I haven't gone for a mission because of Pharris' onvious lack of common sense, however maybe that could be something you could throw in whenever suits.

Guys, the different groups have slightly different time lines just at the moment – I might not immediately reply to some actions while I wait for one of the other characters to get to the same point in time. Bear with me!

Twiceborn, did Keildrithe take the scroll with Gosia’s name on it that was in Jirkin’s pack?

It's not on my character sheet, but I'm quite sure that he did. I knew that I had something to give her on Jirkin's behalf...

Hey all,

I will have a busy Tuesday and most likely will not get to post until Wednesday. Kajetan will use those Daze spells if appropriate. If need be, he can also use his crossbow or mace. He plans on high tailing it out of Barg with everyone.

sorry for any inconvenience

No problem mate - shouldn't be a drama.

Wow, nicely done, all! I really feel a sense of accomplishment! (Now that I've said that, watch the DM pull the rug from under our feet! "As you ride for the woods, you are slain by a volley of arrows from the guard tower..." ;-)

And way to create some nail-biting, suspenseful situations, Mothman!

Now I want to go back and read the Alton/Kajetan spoilers, just to see what they went through!

Looking forward to the next installment...

No shower of arrows ... but you're not out of the woods just yet (pun intended).

Hope you guys didn't mind the extended use of spoilers - it is a good way to build tension though, and I think it worked.

Alright, depending on how things go, there's probably still a few days real time to wrap this installment up - but well done so far on the rescue and escape!

French Wolf, feel free to ask further questions about how your character is working in if you like - oh, and last time I checked she still had "human" down for race...

Male to Charles, my favorite pizza shop Dork 10, Husband 5, Paizonite 5, Accountant 0, Self-Entertainer 12

Mothman,

Nicely done. We are on opposites sides of the world, but I still felt the building tension. The use of spoilers is one thing the PbP has over table top.

Excellent job on the rescue.

Is it ok to go back and check the other spoilers?

Cheers

Female Sylvan Elf of Olidammara

Yes, but then she is a human isn't she?

Great stuff gentlemen. I can imagine that not knowing what the other group were doing was a killer. Especially when things started going downhill.

DM - I hope you don't mind me reading the whole picture. When Pharris turns up then that will stop.

DM Spoiler

Spoiler:
The human race in the main alias was for the other PC's when and if they visit the alias. No one should be able to see thru her disguise, and I intended to keep that up for as long as I could. I sense the cat is out the bag now. Oh well. Her true details are in one of the spoilers.

I am guessing that she has Gosia, simply as a contact from her mother. Perhaps a bit more info on how they knew each other would help. Gosia may be someone trusted by the elves. Otherwise Gosia may wonder what on earth Pharris is up to.

Anyway I can't wait to get started.

Cheers

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Yeah, you guys can all go back and read the spoilers if you like.

French Wolf:

Spoiler:

Oops. Sorry, I forgot we’d been discussing the concept, and that you had most of the details in spoilers. My bad. Ah well, we’ll see how it goes…

Depending on how things turn out, the group may not be continuing with Gosia for much longer, and I want to introduce Pharris at the start of the next game rather than the end of this one …

I’m thinking that either the group comes to her rescue in a battle, or her to theirs. But what is she doing here? It could simply be that she is experiencing the human world, or there could be some deeper reason.

Female Sylvan Elf of Olidammara

DM Spoiler

Spoiler:
It's no big deal about the elf/human thing, my guess is that Ash and Twiceborn are pretty good at not meta-gaming. Three choices spring to mind at this late hour. No real deep reasons slap me in the face.

One - she is simply experiencing the world.

Two - she is defending someone else, a weak traveller or merchant. Better yet an elf or half-elf.

Three - she was hoping to learn a form of battle dance and the fight was not serious. Perhaps things turned nasty when she started to beat the opponent, and the crowd of his supporters have become more violent and thirsting for blood.

Male Human Scribe/4

I just read through all the spoilers from Alton's and Kajetan's point of view - nicely done guys. You probably had the tougher side of the job in terms of things not going smoothly - but you did well to buy us time and then have us all meet up at the same place and time!

And nicely done Mothman, the spoiler definitely added an element of suspense to the action, and made it more realistic as well!

Male Human Bard 1/Ranger 1/Expert 3

Hey guys... sorry for my absence from the boards! I won't be able to post until Sunday evening... sorry for the inconvenience! DM, feel free to move things along without me!

Spoiler for DM:

Spoiler:
Keildrithe does have a few things to hand over and speak about with Gosia: Jirkin's mask and scroll, the Magi, etc.

Really good show.

Mothman,

Just curious if you found a replacement arcane caster yet?

If not, and it is ok with you, I would like to stick around. Truth is, you honestly run a fantastic game, and I want to be a part of it.

In fairness to you, during the week, my posting might be random, but I should still be able to sqeak out 3-4 posts during the week, and then catch up on the weekend. If this would not work, I will completely understand. After six months though, this project I was assigned should be completed, and I should have much more time then.

Just let me know. Either way, it is cool.

Cheers,

Thanks Mothman,

I am starting to see some potential with Kajetan, and like I said, you run a fantastic game, and we have excellent players to boot.

Besides, Kajetan still has to meet Pharris and throw down some game.

And thanks for your patience with my posting delays, guys. I expected to be back by Sunday evening, but... we had a long weekend here in Alberta, and the extra unplanned time off/away/out of town enabled my girlfriend and I to reconnect in a really good way (we were experiencing some issues lately)...

Male Human Bard 1/Ranger 1/Expert 3

Spoiler for DM:

Spoiler:
I am thinking of multi-classing as either Ranger or Rogue. I think Ranger is justified by the knowledge of the land that had been passed down to Keildrithe by his father/grandfather, and which he has slowly been remembering by observing Laithe in action; he would choose human as a first favoured enemy (Artonites in particular!). The bard/ranger combo would also fit with the warrior/poet image I have of the hedilye.

On the other hand, Keildrithe's background also indicates that prior to adventuring, he spent sometime surviving through the less than honourable applications of the skills he had been taught by his father. So I would consider investing primarily in gaming, stealth and sleight of hand oriented skills to flesh out that part of his background...

Do you feel that either of these options is appropriate/logical? If they're both okay, would you have a preference as to which path Keildrithe takes? Thanks!

Arctaris, I was thinking about Alton’s languages; Elven and Orcish are both very uncommon languages – elven is difficult to learn because elves are so rare, and not in the habit of teaching outsiders there language besides, and orcish is rare for the same reasons.

Since Alton comes from Lorin, he can sub one of those languages for that tongue if you like (Kajetan also speaks that language). If you want to sub another one, you can replace it with the Karandic that Alton has been learning – otherwise you will need to spend skill points on Speak Language to become properly fluent in Karandic.

Also, “Common” is Atuscan.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Pharris, some thoughts:

Spoiler:
Since Utak is sticking around, there is a possible elven connection with the party if you want to make use of it.

When pregnant with Kajetan, his mother was abducted by a group of elves and fey called the Ciarda Onora Na’Morag Liusaidh Rois (Dark Honorable Warrior of the Rose that Sees All). This organization is a mixed group of like-minded denizens of The Otherworld who believe that the Material Plane is in danger of having the magical emanations of life wiped away. They have foreseen (or claim so) the coming of the Human religion of Artonism and the eradication of magic. For centuries they have been perfecting the rituals to bestow onto a few the power of Fey Magic, by stealing away a mother in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy to the Land of Faerie for a night and imbue the fetus with their magic while performing a ritual dance that they call Dymphna Edana Bebhinn , the imbued magic becomes part of the fetus’s soul. The Rose Warriors believe that by making children from the Material Plane a part of magic, it will ensure that magic lives on and does not fade away.

It is possible (though not necessary) that Pharris knows of the ritual and the organization (what she thinks of it is up to you), and may know that Kajetan is a recipient of it.

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

I think I'll lose Orcish and replace it with Lorin and then spend a couple of skill points next level and become fluent in Karandic. I can keep Elve right?

1st: Cure Light Wounds (used on Gosia), Entangle, Pass Without a Trace
2nd: Flaming Sphere, Fog Cloud

I've gone up as a druid to third - see Laithe's profile for updates. One question though, do we get a bonus feat at character level 3? I couldn't find it on d20 srd and still don't have my players.

Spoiler:
My plan is to take Paladin of Freedom next level so I was wondering how Alton is going to be exposed to Pelor and how he becomes involved enough to get the blessings from the church and from the god necessary for Grey Guard. He's had brushes with the religion before, but nothing that inspired him to become a paladin. Do you have any thoughts on how this might be accomplished? I'll think about it and post whatever I come up with, if you don't mind.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Alright guys, that’s it, well done!

How long a break, real time, do you guys want before we start the next chapter?

In game time, it will be about a week before we pick up again – your group passes by the Vodyanoi’s river, out of the Dimwood and into the hills bordering Thuringia without any serious incident or sign of pursuit.

There will be opportunity to stop at one of several small villages or hamlets during this downtime if you so wish, at which time you can make purchases if anyone wants to update their equipment lists. These communities are all quite small, so let me know what you want to buy (or sell) and I will tell you if it’s available (generally no magic or alchemical items will be); larger purchases may need to wait until you reach Lichford.

Make sure your character sheets are up to date (including back to full hit points, and equipment, treasure etc is updated); remember that you have Gosia’s gold as well as Jarred’s small treasure hoard to divide if you have not already done so.

You each also have a light riding horse (branded with the church’s symbol) along with bit and bridle, riding saddle and saddlebags. These can be kept or sold (if you can find buyers).

And Twiceborn, nice songs!

Arctaris:

Spoiler:
Pelor, in this campaign as with the “core” version, is a god of light, the sun, healing and good. Probably the way to get his divine attention, and the “calling” to become a paladin, is to go out of your way (possibly to your own detriment) to achieve something that furthers one of his domains.

For example, you might dispel an area of permanent magical darkness, or slay an evil shadowcaster; you might find a way to cure an incurable disease, or spend your own time and resources to nurse a sick and deserving person back to health; you might seek out and slay a particularly evil monster, such as a demon or undead, or perform some great act of compassionate charity.

Generally speaking, such an act would need to be somewhat above and beyond the normal call of duty – for example, giving a wounded companion your healing potion, killing a zombie encountered as a wandering monster, or giving a beggar a coin would not count … although little things can add up.

As for official blessings from the church of Pelor, that’s unlikely at this stage of the campaign, as there just aren’t any around in this part of the world … but the blessing of the god directly is even better!

Becoming a Grey guard probably does require official sanction from the church, so I’ll try to organize something before then … but I imagine you’re still several levels away from that.

But yeah, feel free to post anything you come up with too.

Spoiler:
At this point Alton isn't really trying to get the attention of a church (in fact he's avoiding it like the plague) and has no real ambitions to becoming a paldin. He's just trying to do right. I'll try to come up with something and in the mean time just look for something suitably heroic to do.

Our first adventure completed together! Lets hear it for us! Again, this is a great group and a great DM. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to game with you all.
I can take as little or as much time in real life as necassary. If that were the consensus, I would be happy to start part 2 tomarrow or two weeks from now. I'll go whatever way is convienent for everyone else.

Male to Charles, my favorite pizza shop Dork 10, Husband 5, Paizonite 5, Accountant 0, Self-Entertainer 12

Kajetan will be updated soon. Then he will be ready to go for 'Episode 2'. It does not matter to me how long of a break: tomorrow, a week, makes no difference to me.

Kajetan is good with supplies unless he would need to pick up spell casting components. Also, he would be interested in any book sellers in the area, if there are any.

I also share Arctaris's sentiments. Great game, Great DM, and Great group of players.

Cheers

I've added Quick Reconnoiter as my new feat, from the Complete Adventurer. Allows Spot and Listen checks to be made as a free action (only one per round) and also gives +2 to initiative checks. I should now be fully leveled up.

Like the others I'm happy to jump straight into Adventure 2 - I'm enjoying the storyline, the DMing and the variety and dynamics that everyone brings to the game that I don't want to stop! In saying that, if a break is needed then I'm cool with that.
