You get the picture... monty haul power gaming in the extreme...
Yeah ... that can be ok, but probably not my style of game. My pnp games are probably a bit more hack'n'slash than we're playing here, but I'm right into the character development and role-play too.

Huh?
Lack of meaningful emphasis, one major drawback of messageboards. I did not mean it that way. Yet another "cocks his head" moment.

Say, has anyone else here picked up Monte Cook's "Ptolus: City by the Spire"? I just got it through Amazon... quite the chunk of change, but an impressive product, I must say!
No, I haven't. I really like urban based adventures (not to mention Monte Cook adventures), so I was considering it, but to be honest I've probably got more than enough background material for urban adventures as it is (thanks mainly to various backdrop articles in Dungeon and Dragon). That, combined with the price kind of held me back...

Note that if you are tracking, you will be travelling at half of Laithe's speed (30 feet, reduced to 15 feet). However, the groups movement rate was only 20 feet, not 30 feet (based on Alton's speed), so by tracking you are not actually travelling an awful lot slower than otherwise...

Experience for Day 1!
Alton:
Jirkin:
Keildrithe:
Laithe:
Troy (Vendle):
Yruch:
I will hand out XP from time to time, but please don’t level up until I give the go ahead. I don’t require training, just a suitable time in the story to do so (as determined by me). While I don’t require training, I might veto new skill, feat, or multi-class choices if they seem particularly bizarre to me given the context – so it’s worth thinking ahead of time about the choices you plan to make at the next level, and discussing anything with me you think might be controversial, and we can maybe find a way to work it into the story.
I’m very happy with how things are going. As for roleplaying xp, I’m trying not to judge how you portray your character (that’s up to you), but I try to award consistency in portrayal and any reveals you might make – and roleplaying even during “mundane” things is good in my book.
Good ideas and planning get rewarded even if the group decides not to go through with them, if I think they were good ideas that had a reasonable chance of success – so fear not Alton!
So far a bit of XP has been awarded for “coolness” factor, such as Keildrithe managing to talk the Inquisitor out of executing Gosia, and finishing that scene without bloodshed, and Laithe changing into wolf form and charging into the two other wolves – keep ‘em coming!

Thanks for the XP, Mothman. I am very happy with your approach to XP awards and feat/class/skill acquisition... I wouldn't have it any other way.
And another great encounter, too... you had me crapping bricks with your first close-up description of the leafling, and I was really scared when it attacked Keildrithe and took no damage from Alton's arrow... I thought I was toast!

Heh, thanks! To be honest, I rolled REALLY crappy on both the attacks it got on you (something like a 2 and a 6 I think) ... which in retrospect is probably for the best, given what it could have done to Keildrithe if it hit.
Sending the bard in to negotiate was a good idea - in theory, but once Keildrithe decided to go I was seriously considering toning that thing down a bit (hmmm, damage reduction on an unknown monster at first level - too much?) ... fortunately you guys got smart (and it got unlucky), and I didn't have to.

TwiceBorn wrote:Oh, and needless to say, DM can NPC Keildrithe on Friday and Saturday, to keep things moving...No problem. Thanks for letting me know. You too Arctaris. I'll NPC you guys if needs be, we'll see what happens.
Barring further essays (procrastinating on one right now), you will not need to NPC me for the next several weeks. I feel obliged to tell you though that in late June/early July I will be gone for 3 weeks at CTY (a nerd camp where we take college courses for fun, they don't allow computers for the campers). I understand that this is completely inconvenient for both of us, but I honestly would prefer to go and be an inconvenience (you understand). I will post and tell you when this will happen.

Yeah, that's ok man. Seriously, when a pbp d&d game becomes more important than real life, you probably need to take a long hard look at your priorities...
I've been really happy with the level of participation on this game, and I'd like it to continue, but the fact is sometimes things are going to come up - that's cool.
If you can let me know as exactly as you can as to when you'll be gone, that'd be good. I'll play Yruch as the strong silent type till then, and look forward to you picking him back up when you're back - I am assuming at this stage you do want to continue in the game, is that correct?
In the meantime, if you get a chance to give me anything to work with re Yruch's motivations, combat tactics, whatever you got, that'd be great - if not, no dramas.
The camp sounds good, and a valuable experience - are you planning to start college soon?

hmmm ... I can't see it. I'll try exiting the site and re-entering, see if that works ...

Once for me... totally weird. Is this a country-based phenomenon? The Americans all see a double post, whereas those from the Commonwealth see only one post?

Maybe Jirkin insulted the Queen or something in the first post, and MI6 blocked it....

Hey guys, I’ve got a long weekend coming up, unlikely to be online much (if at all) in the next three days. Feel free to make any skill checks or anything you feel relevant (I’ll post results when I’m back) and discuss amongst yourselves how to proceed.
That's cool... I'm away until Sunday afternoon, as well...

Yay! Experience points!
I like the way the game is going. I wish it wasn't such a hassle for me to read the boards right now, or I'd make Troy reappear soon. As it is, I only have a couple months left on my deployment, which means one month until the hectic packing and moving period begins. After a little family time home, it should be a simple matter for me to PBP.

Hey Vendle,
Happy to hear that you're still alive and doing well. It's cool that you even managed to keep an eye on our PbP game. I hope the next few months of your deployment are without incident, and that you'll be able to rejoin our game when life permits...
Take care!

Vendle - ditto everything Twiceborn said! Glad you're still able to lurk here from time to time...
Let us know what your schedule's like once this deployment is finished, and we should be able to work Troy back into the game pretty easily.

I've noticed that I tend to post direct responses to Laithe, Keildrithe and Alton more quickly then Jirkin and Yruch.
Please don't think I'm favouring some players over others, it's just that the former three seem to be online and posting at the same times I am able to.
Having said that, please let me know if anyone is feeling left out of the game or anything, or has any suggestions on this matter.
For example, I could just post once or twice a day and leave it at that, but I think the game moves more quickly and (I hope) is better for everyone when I am able to respond quickly to posts.
What do you guys think?
