Hey man, how are you doing?

Things are starting to get back to semi-normal. We have some what of a routine down. This helps to save time. My Mom is moving around better and spends alot of time at a nearby church playing cards, bingo, and meeting up with other seniors in the area. It is nice to see her making some friends and being able to live independent of me for a good part of the day. The house is cleared out. We got a 'Good Will' organization to take most of the bigger stuff (furniture, appliances). These will be refurbished and then sold cheaply to needy families. We are also very close to having a buyer for the house, then this nightmare can be put to rest. Work is also coming along nicely. The hardest part of the project is completed. Now just some minor details need to be worked out and then construction can begin. It will be nice when it is over.

Well that is about it on my end. Hope all is well with all of you and the game. I must admit that I have fallen behind in my following, but I hope to remedy that shortly.

Take Care and Cheers,

Utak

Male Human Scribe/4

Hey Utak - good to hear you are well and that things seem to be progressing ok at your end. Keep up the good work.

All is well at this end.
Ash

The Exchange

I am on a short break until Sunday evening. I'll try to keep an eye on the game but computer access may be sporadic at best.

Feel free to NPC the girl if needed, Mothman.

Cheers

Mothman:

Spoiler:
Ok, all character details are finalized and added to my profile, finally! It's been a little hard to find large chunks of time to work on character creation this week, so I apologize for the delay.

Besides changing a few spells and adding basic equipment, the main things that need your approval are my feats, languages, and familiar.

Feats:
Celestial Bloodline (from Dragon #311)
Spell Hand (Complete Arcane)
Sudden Still (Complete Arcane)

I made notes on my character sheet, but Spell Hand allows me to cast each of the following spells once per day as a spell-like ability: Mage Hand, Open/Close, and Tenser's Floating Disk. Sudden Still is a metamagic feat that allows me to ignore the somatic components of a single spell, without advance prepration, once per day. It does not require a higher level spell slot like the metamagic feats in the PHB. I can transcribe the full text of the feat descriptions if you like. Just let me know.

I also added Celestial instead of Fiendish as my third language to reflect my change in bloodline and gave a brief account of why I decided to learn that rather exotic language and how I was able to.

Finally, if possible, I would like a half-celestial hawk as a familiar. Under the section for Celestial Creatures, the MM says that such creatures do exist, but are rare. They do not give stats for them or explain where they would live. My take on it, if you approve, is that they have all the stats of a normal hawk, but retain their slightly higher intelligence and the ability to speak Celestial. They would not have any of the special abilities of their celestial kin such as DR, spell and energy resistances, darkvision, or smite evil. What do you think?

I also gave brief explanations of how I came upon certain magical items, described an idea for my relationship with Stefan, and gave a few suggestions of how I might be introduced to the party, depending on their actions and what you think would work best.

If everything is in order, I'm ready to join the game whenever you think is best. I'm on vacation until April 30th, but I'm happy to join right away or to wait a little while until a suitable opportunity presents itself. Your call.

Let me know if there's anything that doesn't work, or that you think I should change.

Spoiler:
Feats, languages and familiar are all fine.

Background looks good, but I’ll change things a little with Stefan. Him being a sort of mentor figure is fine, but you lost contact with him for several yeas when the Church posted him out to Lichford. Stefan probably knew at this point that you would not likely stay with the Order, and was understanding, but does not yet know that you have officially left. It is at least partly in order to tell him so that you set out for Lichford.

However, upon recently arriving in the town, discrete enquiries at the Cathedral (where his current official role is as an assistant librarian) have found that he is not there. The junior cleric that you spoke to was not forthcoming with details, and you didn’t want to press it, given that your mind immediately jumped to “What if they have discovered his association with the Order?”
Now you are planning your next move – to try to find out what happened to him, to look for him, to move on…?

I’m going to play it by ear a little as to when you come into the game, Ill keep you posted.

Mothman:

Spoiler:
Sounds good. One thing. Although I'm not affiliated with the Church, and no longer even with the Order, I marked down on my character profile that I usually wear a wooden Artonite holy symbol around my neck. This is mostly for convenience so I don't get hassled by priests, etc. But would that be seen as odd? I don't want to wear it if it is something reserved for the clergy...second question is what would an Artonite holy symbol look like?

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Jonventus:

Spoiler:
No, not odd at all. Many devout non-clergy would wear the holy symbol.
The holy symbol of Arton is a seven pointed star - not dissimilar to the Sihedron Rune from Pathfinder.

Well, since the Aussies have already made it to April 26th, I thought I'd be the first to say "happy anniversary"!!! Congratulations and thanks to Mothman for taking us through a full year of PbPing, with no end in sight! And yay us, his dedicated followers! :-)

Yay us! This is still one of the best games and groups that I've ever played in. Let's hope for many more of these little anniversaries for our group.

TwiceBorn, do you have Harlon's binder info (vestiges etc) posted somewhere? I didn't see it on your character profile...

Guys, Ash has been held up for the past few days, but feel free to proceed ... any preference on the plan?

Male Human Bard 1/Ranger 1/Expert 3

Hey Moth,

Truth is, I'll be tied up most of this week as well, probably until Monday. I'm inheriting the position of Director of the organization I work for (while my boss goes on mat leave), have alot of transition stuff to take care of by day, home renovations to complete in the evening (need to be done by Saturday evening), and I've promised my girlfriend my undivided attention on Sunday...

So if you need to NPC Keildrithe, please feel free to do so... I'm happy to go straight for the fair, leaving excess gear with Kajetan...

Thanks for your understanding, everyone...

Harlon only called on one vestige at this point. I think the description of Malphas the Turnfeather can be found in one of the spoilers in the discussion thread. Don't really have time to hunt for it this week, but maybe next, if you haven't found it by then...

Alton will follow whatever plan the group goes with; I have no real preference.

Spoiler:
Would your guy have any reason to visit a freakshow? Perhaps seeing if any of the so called freaks exhibit physical (or mystical) evidence of celestial or fiendish heritage?

Mothman:

Spoiler:
Perhaps someone in town mentioned that they thought Stefan would be attending? I would certainly be interested in the freakshow if I thought there would be a fiendish or celestial presence. Not sure I would suspect that though unless I heard a specific rumour...btw sorry about the slow response there. The LCD-inverter of my laptop fried and I didn't have Internet for the last few days of my vacation. Dell is replacing it on Monday though, so no worries.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Jon:

Spoiler:
No worries re response time.
There would probably be no word that Stefan is likely to visit the show.
Mostly these sort of freakshows simply feature people in masks, and/or deformed people or animals. However, there have been cases where dangerous monsters, sometimes even fiendish beings, have been found in these shows.

Mothman:

Spoiler:
Sure, we can just assume that I got bored and a little frustrated trying to find Stefan in town with everyone wearing masks, and decided to visit the freak show to clear my head. I'm probably more there for entertainment purposes than any sort of research, but, of course, I'd be interested if I discovered a celestial or fiendish creature was part of the show.

Jon:

Spoiler:
Ok then, well if you’re ready to go, let’s plan on you turning up shortly. I’ll introduce you at an appropriate moment.

Mothman:

Spoiler:
Sounds good, I'll keep my eyes peeled!

Liberty's Edge

Jon:

Spoiler:
Is your guy (I'll remember his name soon!) wearing a mask for the festival? Is he likely to go armed to the freakshow?

Mothman:

Spoiler:
I am wearing a mask, but it's a little unusual. I paid one of the better craftsman in town a few extra coins to create a mask in the likeness of myself! While the mask is not perfect, the intention is obvious once someone sees me with it off. Let me know how much that cost.

As for weapons, I have a dagger with me, which will be concealed under my cloak. I will have my crossbow and quiver on my back, especially if I'm headed out of the town proper. I'll have it with me in the city as well unless there is some law against it.

I posted a physical description in my profile which you're welcome to use if you're trying to figure out how to describe me to the others.

My name is Nicolai.

Found it, thanks! LoL, is that why you were so devoted to Rend :)

btw the info I have says Malphas is a Level 2 vestige. How were you able to bind to him? Or am I confusing something about the class? I read through it very quickly...

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

I feel stupid.
My recent duel with Pharris made me go over my character sheet and realize that'd somehow added an extra +1 to my melee attack bonus. My apologies to everyone.

French Wolf; I don't believe that this changes the outcome of any of Alton's attacks; I think that they all still hit. I might be wrong, I apparently have difficulty adding. :(

The Exchange

No problem.

Every week I learn something new about the rules, rules I arrogantly thought I knew.

For instance, sleep is a full round action to cast! Teaches me to read.

Good fight though, I hope the rest of the party don't get upset at us knocking lumps out of each other. Glad you changed from the rapier, it would have been bloody for my PC.

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

I'm moslty just irritated with myself; I hate it when I mkae litle mistakes like that, especially since I take some pride in being an honest player.

French Wolf wrote:

Yeah, that was a nasty shock for me to learn as well. I only figured it out a couple of months ago.

The Exchange

I trust you, mate.

Thanks man, that's one of the nice things about these games; there's not a player on the boards I'd suspect of being dishonest.

Some of the PC's though................

No, it was a good read and seemed to fit well with the nature of both your characters - well done! Had a busy few days without much chance to post so it was cool when I jumped on this morning and was able to catch up on the bout blow by blow!

I think there's a feat that allows you to bind a vestige of a higher level than you would otherwise be allowed.

No worries mate.

And yeah, it was only fairly recently that I discovered that about the sleep spell as well.

Oh, and that duel was pretty cool too.

Spoiler:
Did I witness the duel of between Pharris and Alton?

I'll jump in soon, probably tonight local time (Canada). I'm waiting for a technician this afternoon to replace the screen on my laptop. If you post an update before I get a chance, assume Nicolai pays the 3 marks and gathers with the others to enter the freakshow.

Jon:

Spoiler:
Nokolai may well have witnessed the duel. He arrived on the scene a good ten minutes or more after it was done, but he may have halted a distance away to watch it - it would have been visible from surrounding paths and fields - and then slowed his appraoch for some reason.

He had the Improved Binding feat, which enabled him to bind a vestige of one level higher than the normal maximum. And yes, Harlon's strong feelings towards Rend would have been temporary in nature...:-)

Its a shame we were'nt able to continue that game longer, I was looking forward to seeing how everyone's character's developed. Harlon was one of the cooler characters around.

Agreed... and I'm flattered that you think so highly of Harlon as a character. I quite enjoyed playing his multiple personalities syndrome... And there was also some good potential for developing the refugee backgrounds of both Harlon and Shamus.Moth, if ever Keildrithe (or Andolphas) dies, you know who I'm going to want to bring into the picture... ;-)

Please accept my apologies for my slow posting lately, folks... I've had internet connection problems at home since last week (finally fixed), and I'm busy planning our agency's AGM, which is scheduled for this Thursday... And a heads up - I will probably be away from May 17-19. Sorry for the inconvenience! I'll hopefully be able to post more regularly starting next week...

Guys, Ash is pretty swamped this week too - he sends his apologies.

Mothman,

How do you feel about us posting slightly out of initiative order. Outside of combat, it's great that most people seem to update while I'm asleep, but in combat I think I'll often be holding my post for 1-2 people and then you'll all update before I have a chance.

If I post ahead of schedule, would you like me to put it in a spoiler? Or should I just wait my turn? I'm fine either way, just let me know. If something invalidates my action, I'm fine with you using creative license, and you can certainly make rolls for me if you need an immediate response.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

I'm pretty easy with you posting outside of init order - unless the bad guys get to go before you. Otherwise, go for it (for example, in this battle if you post ahead of Alton, no real harm done).

No need to use spoilers unless maybe it is an if/then type post.

Male Human Bard 1/Ranger 1/Expert 3

Heh... Judging by the frequency of Jon's posts, I would say that he was starved for some real PbP action... ;-)

Guys, Utak got in contact with me a short while ago, and said he’d like to run Kajetan again, either to “write him out” of the story, or to play him in an ongoing role, depending on his time commitments.

I’m cool with it if you guys are. And Utak, assuming you’re still up for it, they’ll probably be running into Kajetan again shortly.
