Intro

It has been 5 years since the Clone Wars came to an end, bringing peace to a galaxy torn by war. The people celebrate both the cessation of violence, and the simultaneous end of the corrupt bureaucracy that had brought the machinery of the Republic to a halt. The mysterious, corrupt Jedi Order has been eliminated, and every being in the galaxy can rise to a position of greatness.

However, not all is as glorious as it appears. While the Jedi Order is considered no great loss, the Imperial war machine yet churns. Every day, new Star Destroyers come out of the Kuat Drive Yards and the shipyards at Fondor and Bilbringi. New star fighters designed by Sienar Fleet Systems, known as Twin Ion Engine Fighters, or TIE Fighters, have replaced the Y-Wings and ARC-170s of the Clone Wars. If there is peace, some whisper, why do we still need such weapons? Is it not time to put them aside, to turn the money and materiel to other things?

There are other changes, as well, some more worrisome. The noble Wookies of Kaashyyyk have been enslaved by the Empire, as have the peaceful Mon Calamari. For rebellion, it is said, yet why does the Empire engage in actions suitable for Hutts? Everywhere, there are rumors that non-humans are viewed as second-class citizens. In the Imperial military, they often find themselves given the worst assignments, and are barred from entry into the elite Stormtrooper Corps. They report harassment and persecution, yet nothing is done. Women, too, have begun to feel marginalized. Surely the Empire isn’t actively pursuing such policies. It’s just a few bad jogan fruit, right?

The greatest fear, though, comes from what happens to those who speak out against the Empire. Sometimes they are arrested for crimes – murder, treason, sedition. Some meet with unfortunate accidents. And some simply vanish in the middle of the night – gone and never to be seen again. What has happened to them? Surely the Empire – which brought peace to a galaxy torn by war – couldn’t be involved? It must be the work of criminals, musn’t it?

Across the known galaxy, these questions and more are asked, including on Krai Ven Station, where our story begins…

This is a Star Wars Saga Edition campaign, and as such will use the rules for Star Wars Saga Edition. Character Creation guidelines are defined below. Characters will start at level 1. I will be accepting 4-6 players. This mostly going to be a fringe-style campaign, with a possible buildup into rebellion against the Empire if the plot goes that way, so build characters with that in mind. No Dark Side or Imperial sympathizer characters, please. They don’t particularly fit with the theme of the campaign. I will keep recruitment open for one week, unless there are people who have expressed interest and maybe need a day or two to finish their character, or if I’ve only gotten a couple submissions.

Submission requirements: Character and backstory. If you can tell me about their appearance and personality, that would be nice as well.

Character Creation Rules

Stats:
Roll 4d6 here in the thread, and drop the lowest. If your total modifiers are less than 4, or your highest ability score is 13 or lower, you may reroll. Both of these conditions are before racial modifiers.

Races:

Barred: Rakata, Kissai, and Massassi. These races are considered extinct at the time of this game, and as such are rather difficult to work in. If you really want to play one of them, message me, and I’ll see if we can work something out.

Modified: Humans will receive a +2 to any one stat of their choice.

Special: I will likely not pick more than one, maybe two Wookies or Mon Calamari, due to the nature of their species’ current situation. Wookies especially, as while one Wookie can make for an occasional comic situation of “Lost in Translation,” a party full of them becomes something of a headache.

Classes:

Any. I do not always consider your starting class to equal your profession, so if you like the look of the Soldier class but want to call your character a smuggler, that’s perfectly fine.

Modified: Jedi start with Use the Force trained, in addition to their standard starting class skills.

House Rule:

If you want your character to be Force-sensitive, you MUST take the feat at 1st level. Otherwise, your character is not Force-sensitive and can not develop it later.

Starting credits/equipment: You get the maximum starting credits for your class, but must pay all required licensing fees. Any equipment with the availability of “Military” or above you must pay the black market cost. You may assume that you have passed all of the necessary skill checks.

Destiny and Background: I will not be using the Destiny mechanic, but I will use the Background Mechanic in the Rebellion Era Camapaign Guide. If you aren’t a fan of any of the printed backgrounds, I’ll work with you to come up with one that fits your character better. It’s mainly to serve as a guide for writing your backstory.

Backstory: I don’t need a novel or an essay, but I want to see you put some thought into it, as well as how your character has come to Krai Ven Station. If you are playing a Jedi, you MUST include what your character did during the Clone Wars, how you survived Order 66, and how you’ve stayed away from the Empire for the past five years.

Krai Ven Station:

Krai Ven Station is considered to be a crossroads of the Outer Rim. Located in an otherwise uninhabited system known as Vertigo, it serves a waypoint for people travelling all over the Outer Rim. It has a thriving merchant and trading community, along with an equally thriving underworld. Krai Ven Station also hosts an Imperial garrison in the upper levels of the station, who are there primarily to support the nearby penal colony on Salora.

Posting Requirements: I would appreciate being able to post once a day. If for some reason you cannot post for a prolonged period of time, please either message me or post in the Discussion thread to let me know. If I hear nothing from you and you do not post for 7 days straight, I reserve the right to remove you from the game.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm interested. A jedi kinda like Kanan from the Rebels cartoon.

Been wanting to play this since I got the books. Already have a character in the process of being made. How do you feel about an Ewok Jedi? If not, I can come up with something else.

Dark Archive

Dotting for interest. WI'll post more when I get home.

I'm gonna go with no, based on time frame. The Ewoks, much as the Wookies, are incapable of speaking Basic, as well as there not being anyone in the galaxy who thinks they're actually a sentient species at this time. Most NPCs would treat you as a highly intelligent pet. Plus, an Ewok Jedi would have been distinct enough that the Empire would be HIGHLY active in hunting them.

Then I shall go with a Trandoshan. Not sure which class just yet, probably either Soldier or Scout. Anywho, here's my stat rolls:

Stat 1: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 2) = 15
Stat 2: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 1, 1) = 11
Stat 3: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 3) = 8
Stat 4: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 2) = 12
Stat 5: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 3) = 11
Stat 6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 5) = 17

Are droids allowed? You didn't specify either way, but I know that they're a bit more complex than most races.

Yes, droids are allowed. After all, it isn't Star Wars without R2-D2 and C-3PO.

Edit: You can even use the different droid chassis in the Scavenger's Guide to Droids.

So, a 13, 10, 7, 11, 10, and 14. That's a total Mod bonus of 1. Can I reroll?

dotting for interest. still thinking about what I want.

Yep. You can totally reroll, Deko. Total modifier less than 4 (I accidentally typed 5, and missed it in proofreading) means a reroll.

Stat 1: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 2) = 13
Stat 2: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 1) = 10
Stat 3: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 1) = 9
Stat 4: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 6) = 17
Stat 5: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 6) = 19
Stat 6: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 1) = 16

12, 9, 8, 15, 18, 15 = 7 bonus total. I can work with this. Give me a bit, and I'll have the crunch and the general theme of the character done.

I will submit something as well when I have a moment.

Scarab Sages

dotting for interest wont be able to have something til about monday, pretty jam packed weekend >.<

Ooh, I'm intrigued. Always enjoy Saga Edition games, and this sounds fun. Let's see the rolls...

Rolls:
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 6) = 18=15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2, 1) = 10=9
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 4) = 16=14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 4) = 14=12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 3) = 14=12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 1) = 12=11

15, 14, 12, 12, 11, 9. No reroll, but nothing stellar there. I'll see what I can do.

Dotting for interest. I am sorely tempted, but still thinking about it. If I do end up unable to resist, I will be submitting a Jedi, by the way.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 5) = 12 - 11
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 6) = 16 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 5) = 16 - 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 6) = 19 - 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5, 3) = 17 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2, 3) = 11 - 10

Not a bad stat array. I have a character I will re purpose and submit for this campaign.

Hm, I've loved this system for a long time. I might have to put something together!

4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 5) = 17 =15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 5) = 16 =15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 4) = 18 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 3) = 19 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 3) = 11 =10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 3) = 11 = 10

Nice, I think I can work with that

Weeeeeell...ahh why not. when it comes to RP, less is most certainly NOT more.

To the dice gods!

4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 1) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 4) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 3) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 1) = 9 8
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 4) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 3) = 16 14

Oof. Two penalties there. hmm. A racial could even it out, but I guess I'll have to peruse some books and see what comes of it.

Question, DM: are there any books not allowed for references and choices? You mention a few you've allowed, but I THINK I have them all. Any chance of a short 'white list' so there's no confusion?

That's actually a reroll, Moroka, as your total modifiers equal 3, which is less than 4.

I also own all the books, so I can reference most material, but the most relevant would probably be:

Core
Starships of the Galaxy
Force Unleashed
Scum & Villainy
Rebellion Era

Gotal's submission.

Jarl is a Soldier, formerly part of the Republic then part of the Imperial Army and Navy. What he saw during his service right after the Clone Wars made him uncomfortable. Given his release he has sought work as a mercenary away from the Core Worlds ever since.

How about Disgraced for the Background Mechanic.

Pardon, but being notoriously unlucky with ability rolls during character creation, I kinda have to ask.

How many rerolls are allowed?

Until you have total modifiers greater than 4 and your highest score is above a 13. If that happens on the first try or the tenth, either is fine.

Good concept submission, Gotal. I'll look at it when I get home. Feel free to make any tweaks you need to throughout the week, and make sure you work that Disgraced into the backstory.

It is pretty close to being there already, just a minor tweak and it should fit in fairly seamlessly.

I haven't even read it yet. I'm out grocery shopping.

Dotting, I love star wars, and the Saga system!

Rolls:
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 4) = 16 - 1 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 6) = 15 - 1 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 4) = 13 - 2 = 11
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 5) = 18 - 1 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 4) = 12 - 2 = 10

10, 11, 14, 15, 17.

Credits: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 1) = 6 x 250 = 1500

Oh, a reroll? Alrighty then, you're the GM. Back to the dice gods!

4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 2) = 8 7
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 1) = 17 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5, 4) = 17 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 4) = 16 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 5) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2, 3) = 8 7

WHOAH, them's some crazy scores...

A concept is forming for a Cathar brawler who seeks to test his mettle, but seems to find rejection and disappointment wherever he goes. His hotheadedness and simple mind have caused various militaries to turn him away, and the Empire shows no love for nonhumans, so his frustrations have mounted. He's turned to mercenary work in order to travel, make a living, find opponents, and maybe even teachers...

Assuming a Cathar character is approved by the DM.

Yep. No problem with Cathar. Feel free to use the Martial Arts Style feats out of Galaxy At War, too.

The rules for rerolls were listed up in the Intro post. I don't want anyone to get stuck with stats that are complete crap.

GM

Spoiler:
Since no one else has put it forward yet, I think I have a concept for a character with the Jedi class to submit. I'm thinking of a Trandoshan, who was not a Jedi at the time of Order 66, but instead has been trained secretly for the last 5 years by a Jedi who escaped and landed ( maybe crash-landed) on Trandosha. The elderly Jedi might have taken in the character after he was abandoned by his poverty-stricken parents for being too small or weak as a youngling. He passes of natural causes and becomes one with the force about the time the game begins, bequeathing his lightsaber to his young Padawan. I can expand on this a bit, but I just wanted to clear the concept with you first. Thanks.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 2) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 3) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 2) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 6) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 3) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 6) = 20

so 15, 15, 10, 15, 10, 17, I can work with it!

Moon Papa:

Trandosha is a little too civilized for a Jedi Master to be lost there too long (it's in the same system as Kaashyyyk, the Wookie homeworld), but nothing's to say you aren't from a more remote planet in the Outer Rim. Your training would have been more unconventional than standard Jedi Training, as well, so my suggestion would actually be to start with a different class (perhaps Scout), choose Force-sensitive as your first level feat, and then multiclass Jedi later (there's no penalty for multiclassing in Star Wars), which will get you lightsaber proficiency. Starting with the lightsaber can count as your benefit from your Background, instead of something else. Starting with the Jedi class would be fine, though, if you prefer.

Oh I missed that, thanks. BEWARE MY MASS COLLECTION OF DROID UPGRADES.

Given the nature of Droids as at least somewhat subservient - especially since I'm not going with a Bounty-Hunter type, but more of a Medic/Mechanic - I will probably leave my background somewhat ambiguous, since it will make the most sense for me to be "owned" by one of the other players?

Jarl Tehnos:

Disgraced will definitely work out great for Background. Very nice.

Couple of things:

I calculate your Reflex Defense as 16 (+1 Class, +3 Dex, +2 Armor), not 18. Remember, armor replaces your heroic level, it doesn't add to it.

I also calculate your Will Defense as 12 (+1 Heroic Level, +1 Wisdom), not 13.

Your attack with the Vibroblade is -4, since you don't have WP (advanced melee weapons) and take a -5 non-proficiency penalty.

Possibly, although I would have no problem if you were your own master. Write up the backstory you want. After all, a droid as it's own master could be most amusing.

Count me interested. I'll have to find my books again, but I do have a funny concept.

I'm thinking a Quixotic warrior who THINKS he destined to be a Jedi, but in reality, his prowess leaves a lot to be desired... though, on rare moments, he swears he can hear the Force speaking to him.

Went through a lot of time building my character, only to realize that his background wouldn't have worked with his race. Trandoshans can regen limbs, and I had him with a cybernetic arm >.< Will rework this and post the character soon.

Captain Ford: Anything like this?

Don-Wan Kihotay

Not to put you off the concept, but you may find it helpful in creating your character.

Take your time, you have until next Saturday.

Thanks DM. Will make adjustments tomorrow as I will be out all night tonight.

Since you have the house rule of Humans having a +2 to one ability score, would you be willing to do that for Zabraks?

Hmmm...sure, I can allow that. Zabraks get +2 to one stat, as well.

Thanks, put it to good use.

Stuffs and Stuffs!:
Here is Vessani, ex-scout of the Grand Republic Army. Abandoned as a pup, he was found by Muriel, who was--

Er, sorry, wrong station. Vessani was a Zabrak soldier, 136th Regiment, of the GRA. During the implementation of Order 66, he faced down his own squad in defense of their Jedi commander, losing his arm in the process. He and his Jedi commander were able to escape, though the commander was grievously wounded. He was able to last long enough to stop Vessani's bleeding and seal the wound.

Vessani was found days later by the remnants of the GRA, the ones who didn't follow what was, to them, an illogical and illegal order. After being fitted with a cybernetic prosthesis, he quickly joined the fledgling rebellion, offering his expertise gained during the war to help stop the new Empire.

So, whatcha think whatcha think whatcha think?!

Good concept.

At a quick glance (I'll do an in depth look later), you appear to have 13 skills trained instead of the 7 you should. I'm guessing you were trying to check them off as class skills and accidentally trained all of them .

...huh. I legitimately didn't know this was a character. Good to know. XD

Ah, okay. Haven't done this game before so I wasn't sure how it works. Will fix.

EDIT: Fixed. I have 7 class skills from my class plus Treat Injury from my Background.

I'll go that route if I don't get any takers from Smugglers who want to acquire me, or if it should happen that one does but we don't both get into the game. Essentially my backstory will be the same either way, it would just be the last ~2 weeks that will have changed.

At any rate, I have some more that I want to write up for it, but I think I have my crunch just about finished. I want to put in some more information about the Droid systems, but otherwise I'm happy with it.
