1 person marked this as a favorite.

Since the interest thread exploded I guess I will make an official thread for Kingmaker. All of the things I can think of are below that you may want to know if you need more please let me know.

Submissions will close in 1 week (2/13/13) and decisions will be made by that Friday (2/15/13).

4 will be chosen to play and 4 will be chosen as backup.

Stats
Point buy: 20
HP: 1/2HD+1
Traits: 1 extra must be campaign related.
Money: Standard starting gold
Stat Blocks are to be either in Bestiary format or in Herolab outputs.

A alias is needed specifically for this campaign so you may need to remake or resubmit stuff if you've played this character in a different game.

What I’m looking for:

In the character:

Interesting back story and reasoning to delve into the world of peril and doom with little to no experience of it.

Loner types need not apply.

Non-standard races will have a harder time fitting in just as it doesn't seem to fit well.

A place both in combat and in RP.

Character art. I love character art. (links are fine)

Bonus points:

If you can team up with someone and make a paired background

Tie your story into the setting very well.

In the Player:

The more you can reliable post the better a minimum of once per day is needed.

Talkative and inventive. I like great ideas that are not copy pastes.

An ability to show emotion in the writing.

A good handle on the rules.

An ability to use the interwebs to reach Google docs (my preferred method of information storage).

Bonus points:

A real cool dude/tte

in the EST and active during the evenings.

About me:

I started RP about 4 years ago in Vampire: The Masquerade then moved to Dark Ages. If you know the basic types of players I am an Actor of sorts. I love to fold and weave stories and interact with others in character.

I will be doing the majority of my postings from my work. I work second shift in the EST so 4-10 will my most active times and will always post as quickly as possible. If you can post more during those times let me know that will bolster your chances.

I would also like to try and use the battle maps and such so if you understand how to use Photoshop or some other photo manipulator that’s great.

Approved Submissions:

Martial:

Arcane:

Divine:

Dotting working on character now

Interested, will get chracter up later tonight.

Dark Archive

Just popping in with Garren Kodlak again.

Human Cleric of Erastil. Very focused on the Home and its meaning to people. Building communities and the like. Alignment is mildly fluid from NG through LG to LN. I actually think LG represents him best at the moment.

As I said above, and in his profile, he's very focused on the home and community. I'd thought about making him a Theologian with a focus in community, but ultimately decided against it.

Depending on how gear works out, I may start with a pet. I like pets.

He's, in combat, an archer and a spatula (will pick you up if you go down).

player:
I am in the EST, though I'm generally active mornings and afternoons. I can post a lot during those times, but they are my limits.

I'll go hunt down a Portrait in a tick. I'm not satisfied with the one attached to the profile. I may wind up with a Mini as well... Not that it helps in an online game. I just like having and painting minis.

Dotting

Definitely interested. Also, if somebody is making a character related to the Lebeda, it'll tie in nicely to this character.

Two questions Sault:

1) Is HP at first level also 1/2HD+1, or max first then 1/2HD+1 every level thereafter?

2) Can I just link a myth-weaver character sheet instead of a stat block. I don't presently use Hero Lab.

I do have one question.

Traits: 1 extra must be campaign related.

Does this mean just 1 trait total, or standard 2 traits plus a campaign trait?

Dark Archive

Sault, What are your feelings on reflavoring a trat a bit?

i.e. a regional trait that might fit our character were the region different or a religion trait but we worship a different god?

Lots of questions today I see.

I will add one more.

Is it that core races are preferred or core races are required?

I was thinking of a Kitsune Oracle or something like that with strong ties to the region.

@Lucius

1: The second is correct.

2:As long as it is stable and I'm able to find the info that is fine.

@Fallen_Mage

You 3 traits total.

@twilsemail

Type it up and I will see.

@Gnomezrule

If you can explain how and why the swordlords gave you the contract and how you got here then it is fine. Like I said it has to make sense.

Dark Archive

From my understanding of KM, and Sault's phrasing, I'd assume* they're preferred. So if you look like some kind of fox creature, the back-water folks in the river kingdoms won't treat you too kindly. Later on, the largely human population of Nobles will probably look down on you as well.

I might go so far as to assume that if a Kitsune (or other radically inhuman race) were the regent for this kingdom, that might provoke a war with someone.

*Assuming is a bad habit and I should stop doing it immediately. My old Math teacher used to have some saying about assuming.

ETA:

traits:
I've added the proposed trait to Garren's profile, in the Traits section. Feel free to let me know what you think. I mostly feel that a person that's gone from wild to city/town and back again fits the trait pretty well, even if they aren't from the Dragon Empires.

I'm still working on the cocnept but I defiently want to play an arcane caster. Wizard, Sorceror, or witch....just not sure yet.

Dotting for interest...

I usually can post twice a day except for Sundays. It's going to take a day or two to settle on a particular character for this kind of campaign, I've got a week, but I won't procrastinate too much.

Bah I don't have hero lab, and this character is already set up in an easy to read, but not the format that you prefer. It can be adjusted if you are actually interested in Fizzwiddle.

But I will post him anyhow just in case, you don't toss me for not following directions. I have to redo his equipment and gold, but that is all.

Edit: made those adjustments, though not the equipment. Chose the riverlander trait, though the idea is that he is hardy from living a hard life on the streets.

Hmm, I posted over in the interest check thread. So I have a question, what level of Gun Tech do you want or do you want no guns?

might try to put together a human swordlord fighter for this, as KM is the best setting for this, what with the sword scion trait and all

Applying with Orodreth. Need to edit a few things.

This is my character, who just needs to be adjusted to a 20 pt buy and pick another trait and fix money. By "standard" wealth do you mean we roll for it or take average wealth?

Lem is a Pathfinder, so he would be more than willing to team up with another Pathfinder for a background. He has Noble-born (House Orlovsky) a his trait so that's a possible link too.

I'll get searching for a pic too :)

@Lem the average wealth like you would find on d20pfsrd.com

@twilsemail

It seems you are missing 40g worth of equipment or gold.

I am very interested will re work my stat block to you specs.

@everyone else my character was a street rat turned burglar who is escaping port ice because the crime bosses didn't like free lance work. I am looking to possibly work a connection with someone else. My idea was local guard or cleric who has been sent to help with the settlement so I heard about it from you and due to my current circumstances have decided to go along for the ride. it does not have to be a friendly relationship in fact it could be more fun to role play it if we are not.

Presenting Zelyasa "Zel" Greensting, human Sorcerer, fey bloodline.

I went with the Bastard trait, daring to claim she is of the line of Rogarvia. Of course no one believes her. After a recent attempt on her life, the Stolen lands seem like a safer place. I was thinking that perhaps one or two of other happened upon her during that conflict and helped fend off her attackers. She would be in your debt, at least until she could repay the favor...

Still need to work in all the crunch but her campaign trait, background, and description are in there. I hope it all makes sense, if I dailed to make the necessary connections, let me know and I will adjust as needed.

@ Lem-Fizzy was a Pathfinder, kicked out for pranking Draendal Drang, we could work together.

@ Zelyasa., would you want to link stories in some way with my ranger here? He has been all around rostland for many years and could have seen the attack and helped thwart it.

Here's a work in progress. I'll be using this for the image.. observe,

just consider the large pauldrons artistic license.

Here is an image for Zelyasa Greensting Zelyasa Greensting

Her profile should now be complete except for gear.

As for me, I'm Est, able to post weekdays and weekends, with evenings and mornings being my best time. I have a smart phone so its possible to check in and post from anywhere.

I was actually hoping we could work together, Fizzy. I love your character! Maybe we both arrived at Absolam at near the same time and hit it off, though I, being the generally more responsible type, was a bit more respectful of the gurus and managed to complete my training, while coming to your taverns on free nights to listen to you perform. Then, maybe you decided to invite yourself to come with me when I headed off to the Stolen Lands as yet another "I'll show the Pathfinders" moment by taking the same job as a 'real' Pathfinder?"

I can imagine the back and forth already, Lem disparaging Fizzy's pranks on authorities while stifling his own laughter, and trying to talk Fizzy out of targeting the sheriff "though maybe that jerk barkeep needs a bucket of slime dropped on him..." and so on. Ha ha. :) Good times.

In other news, my alias is all ready to go (already did have him set for a 20 point buy), gear finalized, third trait taken, and found this drawing which I think is a pretty good likeness of Lem, although without the boots or the kneepads and sai wielded instead of a dagger. (Lem does have a dagger which came with his pathfinder's kit, but he uses that mostly for utility since it isn't a monk weapon.)

Fizzy is geared up. He doesn't have much. That tends to happen when you keep getting in trouble.

@ Lem I LOVE it. How about they were roommates at Pathfinder training? Could actually be good friends, of course it means down the road a teamwork feat might be in order. Fizzy has a SEVERE weakness for pie.

@ DM As mentioned before if you decide you would like to play with Fizzy I am happy to reformat, I reread my earlier post and thought maybe that wasn't clear.

Crunch and gear is all done. I'm kicking around backstory ideas and i'll work on getting that down.

Essentially his family immigrated from Varisia, and his father or maybe grandfather was actually a swordlord in his own right.

we'll see where I go from there, but i may be able to work Zelyasa in

Presenting Tholozzan the Traveler for your consideration.

Dorian Van Hunt wrote:

I could see that working out, let me know

Sounds good, Fizzy. :) Lem would be all over the Tandem Trip teamwork feat, but that probably wouldn't interest Fizzy. We have at least 2 levels to decide though, so no rush lol.

BTW, I was looking at the Sound Striker and Prankster Bard archetypes and it looks like they both alter the Suggestion bardic performance (Punchline and Weird Words). RAW, you can't combine 2 archetypes that alter the same feature, but maybe DM would let you pick one (rather than both) of the performances to get at level 6 instead of saying you can't do it at all?

New to Messageboards where do I submit a char. and what programs do I need? Alchemist with Garess family trait.

Still learning this Messageboard stuff.

Dark Archive

@Sault: I'm sorting out some of the mundane necessities and then will spend my remaining cash on an animal companion of some sort (note: no Caps on companion). After he has a bedroll and all. Should be done within the hour.

@Johnny Porters: I'd be more than willing to be your sponsor for community service if we're both brought in. Just know that Garren is likely to scold for misbehaving. I'm pretty sure you were looking forward to that, though.

It's frustrating how many awesome images of archers either have them with super long hair or holding the bow or arrow entirely wrong. Still searching.

GM:
How do you feel about Rich Parents? I'm planning on using it primarily for 'hirelings' to get me to the inn. And a couple of 'high end' mundane items (i.e. MW Pack, large chest, and the like). I don't plan on the 'hirelings' to follow us around, just stay at the inn and help out/take care of my things. If this is a problem, I can change it not a problem.

@Fizzwiddle Glockenfleffor XXII

If you want to submit him reformat him. Like I said above final decisions are not for about a week.

@BlueFire13 & Theordric Garess
No programs and it's pretty easy. You gotta make an alias on your profile. If you search around in the discussion area you can find lots of a helpful threads.

@twilsemail

Ok just wanted to make sure you didn't short change yourself.

@Fallen_mage

As long as it's for RP stuff I can see it working. The hirelings are gonna be standard npc stats with expert levels though.

Dark Archive

@Sault: Equipment has been updated. He's got a hawk at this point. I can always change that out for some other critter if you don't approve. I'd like to just treat the hawk as a companion animal, if that works for you. No tricks or anything, he just kind of hangs out.

Sovereign Court

Sault, would you allow the Inspiring Commander Cavalier archetype from Rite Publishing? I typically don't use 3rd party material myself, but this is exactly what I'm looking to do with this character. If not it's okay, I'll switch to the bard/cavalier multi-class build.

Lem, what Fizz says is 100% true...get him some pie and he will be good to go :)

I will try and state something up and see what comes out of it, was thinking a Halfling Fighter type, could make it an all Halfling party going out to explore the new land, and bring back tales to the community and maybe a new land to have the halflings call home.

oops missed that, well sound striker is dropped. Thank you for that!

DM:
I appreciate the consideration, though I have a feeling, that though I post a lot and consider myself a good player, I might be just a bit too lax for your style. I appreciate the parameters you have set, but honestly am rankled at them. Why make someone go through the work of reformatting if you might not even consider the character? It does not make sense to me. There is nothing wrong with that approach, but it is the opposite of how I run things. I foresee us not meshing well perhaps. I could be wrong, but I would be loathe to apply and, with luck, get selected only to have to drop or even worse be booted.

I was very tempted to make the changes because I so desperately want to do kingmaker, but then I am ignoring my gut. If I am so lax on things like format and you are so strict....Anyhow I hope this does not seem like a reprimand or holier than thou, or bitter, because it is not. I hope I am not making a mistake, but hey we all live with them.

As to you other trolls reading the spoiler-get outta here!

Twilsemail:

Ok That's fine I love having critters around it adds character and if you gain handle animal you should be able to eventually teach it tricks. (I can't remember the rules on that though off the top of my head)

Mikhail:

I want to keep it all Paizo. Although if I didn't I would run a godling game because godlings are just that cool.

Although I do have a special spot in my heart for cavaliers and I appreciate the power of a bard.

Fizzwiddle:

It's not that it is a do or die thing. It is just that if I expect everyone starting from scratch too I figure anyone should.

But in play I am more of a fluff guy than a crunch guy. Regardless I hope what ever you do you have fun or else.

Okay so first draft of backstory is up.

I'm open to critiques either here or via pm, and i'm certainly interested in intertwining storylines. If anyone has ideas for such, feel free to let me know what you had in mind and I'll work on writing that in.

BACKGROUND

Spoiler:

Dorian's family migrated to Restov a generation ago from Varisia. His grandfather picked up use of the dueling sword and became a respected swordlord in his own right, serving the kingdom for years and eventually raising a son who would follow his footsteps.

When Dorian was born, he was expected to carry on the legacy and become a swordlord. When he was young, he rejected this notion and became quite the troublemaker. He lied when he had to and developed quite the talent at it. Although he was naturally gifted as a swordsman, he lacked the motivation.

This all changed around his sixteenth birthday. His father was away on an expedition into the river kingdom, serving as a caravan guard. One day the caravan returned with his father's dueling sword, but his father wasn't with them. He had given his life in protecting the caravan, fending off a group of bandits, but not before they struck a fatal blow. With his dying breath, he entrusted his blade with one of his companions and gave the man instruction to give it to Dorian.

Dorian was steeled by the event, and immediately began rigorous training with his grandfather, who was still an expert swordsman despite being in his sixties. His grandfather also maintained contacts among other members of the Swordlords, who assisted in the young man's training.

Dorian had became quite the combatant in his own right, and adept at using his cloak to his advantage in a duel. But before he could petition to join the ranks of the Swordlords, he wishes to test his mettle, to see what he is made of. His grandfather has directed him to the opportunity to join an expedition to the stolen lands, just the sort of chance he was looking for.

Alright, here is my Half-Elf Ranger Garion Erada. I've worked up quite a back story, so if you're up for reading it go for it! If there is anything I left out of the crunch please let me know.

Description:
Garion Erada is a half-elf male Ranger that stands at a tall 6'3" and is a sturdy 175lbs. He keeps a head full of light brown hair pulled back into a rough pony tail, but occasionally lets it all hang loose, cascading down his back and over his shoulders, nearly matching his tan skin from all the time spent outdoors. You can see in his deep grey eyes a deep sense of curiosity, wonder, and longing, which find an outlet in his skills as a ranger.

Back Story:
In some ways, his upbringing wasn't that much different from the half-elves that he's met in Brevoy. There were only a handful of them in the orphanage in Silverhall that he was raised in. The women of the orphanage told him what little they knew of his parents as he grew up. What he did know was that his father was an Elven tradesman who had come to peddle his wares in town and his mother worked at the local tavern. One night and he was gone. His mother, who had apparently never successfully carried a child to term, fell ill during this pregnancy. He survived and she did not.

As he grew older Garion grew fond of the outdoors and wandering, especially in the Gronzi Forest just east of the lake. The outlying areas of Brevoy had much to explore. He would leave the orphanage for days, sleeping under the stars, hunting, fishing, and learning to live off the land. Everyone who met Garion instantly grew to like him. Even though his extended "excursions" threw the orphanage staff into a tizzy, they began to trust Garion more as he grew up. They would send him on errands into town, fetching supplies, food, medicine, and anything else they needed. When he was old enough, he took a job as a hunting guide for some of the rich elite. With his growing skill on the bow and his knowledge of the surrounding areas, he became a favorite amongst the wealthy patrons of Brevoy. These hunting trips pushed the boundaries of the areas he knew, taking him further and further away from the forests he was familiar into more dangerous territory.

The first time he killed a person was on one of these hunting trips. Up until this point, most of the people who were hiring Garion had no real desire for danger, just a day or two in the woods and a prize to bring home. Recently a group of men decided they wanted a little more excitement, so they asked him to take them out to the Greenbelt. Garion had heard quite a bit about the Stolen Lands and on some of his solo adventures he had even gone to the outskirts of Greenbelt, but never too deep. He's had several run-ins with Kobolds, but nothing too crazy. Mostly he just observed them from a distance, listening and watching what they do. He even picked up some Draconic, and on one very rare occasion he traded some food with a couple of their outlying scouts. Early into the second day they crossed the border and went into the Stolen Lands. Not very far into their hunt they were descended on by a group of bandits that had been scouting out the outlying areas. The battle was quick. The men that had come along with him were skilled with their weapons. Instinctually Garion notched an arrow, and when he saw one of the bandits closing in from behind on one of the party he let it fly.

When it was all over, the man he saved came over and thanked him. "You know, they are thinking about taming this land once and for all," the man said, staring off into the distant south. "They could use a man like you, someone who can survive out here, someone who can fight. The only catch is that they want you to stay. If you have anything worth staying in Brevoy for, maybe it's not for you. But if not…" The man trailed off into his own thoughts, obviously struggling with the idea itself.

The rest of the trip went off without a hitch and they returned. Before parting ways, the man reminded him of their conversation. "It really would be the chance of a lifetime, think about it." And with that the man was off, leaving Garion alone with his thoughts. He'd always entertained the thought of a lifetime of adventure, but taming the Stolen Lands? Going about the rest of his business, still running errands for the orphanage that raised him, he couldn't shake the thought that there was something more, something bigger. He knew what he was going to do before he could even admit it to himself.

I live in EST, I can post plenty during the week and can be active in the evening. Weekends I can post, but occasionally the times might be different. I am not so much of an artist, so I may not be able to come up with any original art. I like to be creative, rp, and I like to get into battle as well.

I don't know for sure that I answered all the questions/requirements, so if I left anything out I'm sorry!

EDIT: I consider myself to be a pretty cool dude.

Cool! Here’s what I was thinking. You were / are trying to help the street kids of Port Ice and have known me for quite some time. I have lived on the streets because they were safer than living at home with my abusive father. I have done what I needed to survive. I am general a nice person and actually look after the younger street kids most of the time but I have honed my skills to a point of no return. Or at least that is what I believe.

I have met you several times around the town when you were helping out the homeless and in general we have a very good relationship. You know all too well what I do and have told me many times I need to give up my life of petty crime and look for something to change my life around. By no means do you approve but you also know that you can’t force change on someone.

I have great respect for you because I see that you have a genuine care to others, but I know I can’t change because I am what I am.

When the crime bosses force me to leave I decide to accompany you on your new journey to settle the Stolen Lands. I had heard you talk several times to others about your trip and when I knew I had to leave it seemed like a match made in heaven. So I ride out shortly after you have left and catch up with you and explain that I am leaving Port Ice and want to come along with you.

You accept me joining you but on one condition, that I do not steal anymore. You have told me that if you find out that I have broken the law you will turn me in to the authorities yourself. I figure that I have no real choice I don’t know the world and the ways of it so I agree to your terms.

My general demeanor is light hearted, fun, and people oriented. You need to be a people person growing up on the streets. I am not too bright or wise but a killer smile goes a long way.

You can PM me what you think.

ah that makes sense. good i am glad i brought it up. perhaps some reconsideration on my part is warranted.

Fizzy sits down with a blueberry pie and a cherry pie. He begins to eat. Eating helps him think.

Dark Archive

PM Sent. I'm sure we can work with that.

I finally found an image I like, I've included it in Garren's profile and appearance block.
