Background:

Tholozzan was born in Daggermark and grew up in The River Kingdoms moving from place to place often spending entire days on his own while his father worked "trading" goods. His mother spent her waking hours garnering the wages of those interested in a glimpse of their future. Desna was not a popular deity where they lived, so they kept their high regard for the goddess as secret as one could in a town as wrought with rumor and inuendo as Daggermark.

Tholozzan's father had been a shrewd merchant, but when pride got the best of him and he began expanding his business at the expense of some of the others, he was found dead in his shop by his wife.

Fearing for the safety of her family, she pleaded with her brother-in-law, an inglorious bachelor to help her escape town and the wrath of whoever poisoned her husband. Her strict faith in Desna paid off with one lucky break after another as they managed to flee the henchmen of Daggermark town by town staying long enough to trade goods and sell fortunes to all with coin. His uncle, however, soon grew weary of taking care of the boy and his mother as well as the liability that they had become and sought to "trade" them on the black market as slaves. Tholozzan and his mother discovered the plot during one of his uncles drinking binges and quickly left with around 100 gold belonging to his uncle as compensation.

Tholozzan's mother had always taught him to stand up for himself and the down-trodden. She reminded him to guard his old world culture and steadfast faith closely to maintain a low profile. This proved difficult for him however as he enjoyed spending time with his friends and strangers alike in lengthy conversation over libations often resulting in cathartic gut-spilling admissions.

Tholozzan was an apprentice to a friend of his mother's whom he suspected of being romantically involved with her. He was a tattoo artist that spent many long hours in taverns providing his services to those who wanted to pay tribute to fallen comrades or memorable adventures. His master had also spent time teaching him the art of combat as he had learned it in the militia and imparted his knowledge of street smarts upon him. Between his apprenticeship as a tattoo artist and his lengthy instruction into the ways of Desna, Tholozzan found himself spending less time in the streets and the wild, which began to agitate him into an inconsolable restlessness.

He split his uncle's money with his mother, the "dowery" for marrying her off to a slaveholding sadist that his uncle now had to deal with and headed for refuge. The miles of landscape between his past and his future was growing. Perhaps he soon could rest. Freedom Town sounded like an apt title;comforting enough for him.

Appearance and demeanor:

At exactly six feet tall and 190lbs., Tholozzan is bigger than most Varisians, but intimidation is an avenue unnatural to him. Tholozzan is a very social person preferring to strike up a conversation with even a stranger and often offering to read their fortune, for a small fee of course. He is a dedicated follower of Desna, a cleric by practice, but he feels most comfortable around rogues and other swarthy characters. His dark brown hair and eyes compliment his dusky skin that gives him the stereotypical exotic appeal commonplace amongst Varisians. He travels light and his clothes are geared towards such endeavors. Nicknamed "The Traveler" for his need to constantly move around provoked possibly by his disdain for structure and rules, Tholozzan is ready to explore new lands and cultures, seeking to experience the richness of life and help the less fortunate whenever possible. His chain shirt is worn over a linen shirt, but under a beige tunic woven from camel hair by his mother. His breeches are a tan linen wrapped tight at the knee by a pair of soft leather boots that seemed to be wrapped around his feet and legs much like moccasins. Tholozzan loves the feel of the ground under foot. His head is often wrapped in a turban of light linen and his course cloak of brown wool helps to keep him warm on cold nights. His brown leather belt is wide and strong holding a variety of items including a belt pouch and his weapons. Worn brown leather bracers keep his hands free for the deftness that he has come to rely upon. He has a tattoo of a butterfly on the palm of his left hand which contains divine inspiration. Tholozzan despises being alone and will seek out others even when it is not in his best interest.
