Myastan Zayless |

"Would you trust strangers who disappear your king and show you a puddle on the floor as proof it was a Boogey man?" He tilts his head as if to invite reasons to assuage his fears.

Ravvek the Avenger |

No. We could just disappear and let them sort it out, but I would rather see this through. I can only hope that the veil of darkness lifts and the people could tell that they were under the sway of that fiend...

Myastan Zayless |

"Perhaps there is evidence that we have not seen hereabouts that will help."

Ravvek the Avenger |

Rav nods and continues his search of the room...
Wisdom (Perception): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Greycastle |

Upon the effects left behind, you find a metallic black Rapier a fairly valuable ring save the gem that has cracked set in it. After some examination, Sashah determines the Rapier to be magical in nature and the ring also once held magic but seems to have faded with the broken gem. His best guess as to the ring is that was used as some sort of storage device, possibly even trapping something within it.

Ravvek the Avenger |

Any evidence in the room, journal, letters, anything?

Greycastle |

The Lords journal can be found at his writing desk but the entries stop a two weeks ago. Your best guess is that must be how long the Lord has not been himself. You hear stirring outside as one of the guards seem to be waking up. When anyone comes to check on him, the guard looks merely confused. Not angry or even violent.

Once he hears the guard stirring, Rav heads to check on him, Are you okay? I think that you need to see something...
The young paladin leads the guard into the room, gesturing to the hoop, if any of it remains. If not, then to the journal, Your master was replaced by a fiendish doppelganger. It seems that it was a few weeks, if his journal is any indication. His body may be hidden away somewhere. Will you help us? Is there a Chamberlain that you would go to in the lord's absence?
Charisma (Persuasion): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Well, this removes some of the sting of that terrible combat performance!

Myastan Zayless |

"He seems to have stopped his journal entries 2 weeks ago. I wonder did other habits change then?" Zayless lets the question hang on the guard's minding hoping it leads him to remember other troubling changes.

Ravvek the Avenger |

Rav shrugs, Now that the veil has been lifted, I wonder if they remember?

Greycastle |

After some jogging of memory, the guard does seem to remember recent times. He agrees that things have not been right. It all began as some kind of plague of nightmares. It seemed to slowly infect everyone. He admitted things seemed clearer now than they had before, despite the throbbing headache from being knocked unconscious.
As the captain is fetched and the castle awoken, your fate is somewhat at debate. Some believing you should stand some kind of trial, others believing you to be the heroes you are. It doesn’t take long though (another night of rest) before people realize the nightmares have subsided.

Ravvek the Avenger |

Rav will stay to help them get back on their feet again, before leaving. He will pay little mind to the voices that think we need to stand trial. As he is one of the few that can use the rapier, he see if his Divine Sense can sense if it is an Evil weapon, if it does not 'ping', he will ask Sashah if he can identify it.
In the days after, the young paladin will visit Goodberry and spend time with her, informing her of the death of Lord Oreclasp, and the fiendish presence...

Sashah |

"I vill need 10 minutes," Sashah says simply as he begins placing things for a ritual.
Identify

Ravvek the Avenger |

Is there anything else we need to do? Talk to the priest? Tell him about the other priest's fate?

Greycastle |

Nope. Nothing to do. I was just taking us out with some detail but my posting rate has slowed so much, it’s not fair to you guys to keep that up.
As a reward, Lord Oreclasp’s daughter gives you a satchel with 400 gp, and insists that the characters stay for a feast in their honor. The curse of nightmares is lifted once Glimmercoal is defeated. The nobles also make good on the owlbear bounty, paying 50 gp per owlbear beak (I believe you killed 8 total). Lastly, Sashah was able to identify the coal black weapon as a Rapier of the Dark Huntsman
As per the season 9 rules, you can level if you wish I believe. I’ll leave those details to Ravvek to explain better since I havnt really dove into them much.
You have made allies with The Oreclasp noble house, and Goodberry the unicorn. At the same time, you have earned the enmity of Glimmercoal. Like all fiends, the cambion will never forget nor forgive a grudge.

Greycastle |

STORY AWARDS
The characters can earn the following story awards during play.
Glimmercoal’s Ire. The adventurers have earned the ire of Glimmercoal the cambion for slaying his mortal form. In encounters with Glimmercoal in the future, he will seek to magically control and/or destroy adventurers with this Story Award over any other potential target.
Ally of the Forest. Goodberry the unicorn owes the adventurers a favor. During a short or long rest, the unicorn’s blessing causes a magical bush with 10 berries to grow near the adventurer’s camp or abode, as per the goodberry spell. Cross this Story Award off once it is used.

Greycastle |

If you guys want to know anything else feel free to ask. The stun kept Glimmercoal from explaining much.

Thanks for running! The rapier of the Dark Huntsman, is it evil? It certainly sounds evil... :p
In this particular case, the ALPG says: Your character gains a level upon completing an adventure.
So, level up! IF we were playing a hardcover, it would take 8 hours of play to level, OR milestone, whichever comes first. But we are not, so it don't matter in our case! ^_^
Greycastle, was this a 2-hour or 4-hour mod?
Depending on which, our maximum gold earned is 60 gp each (2-hour) or 120 gp each (4-hour). In which case, in-game, I would say, maybe the excess gold was donated to the church or distributed among the commonfolk. Or otherwise spent on a feast or something.
Then, finally, each of us gain 20 Downtime days.
It was fun playing with you all! If anyone is down to run another tier 2 mod, I am always up for it!

Ravvek the Avenger |

As for questions, do we ever find the Lord's body? It seems that he was replaced, so his body must be somewhere... I would hate for his daughter to have to discover it!
Ravvek is naturally inclined to be distrustful of nobles, but he softens a bit toward Lady Oreclasp.

Greycastle |

It was a two hour adventure. The broken ring stored the dwarf’s Lord’s soul but it doesn’t mention anything about the body. One might assume that the Cambion had his minion demons take the body out and dispose of it.
As to the Rapier,
RAPIER OF THE DARK HUNTSMAN
(RAPIER OF LIFE STEALING)
Weapon, rare (requires attunement)
This matte-black rapier does not reflect light. It radiates a faint fiendish aura, and turns chill to the touch when within 30 feet of a good-aligned cleric or paladin. Once attuned, the wielder often feels hungry, even if they have just eaten. However, when the life stealing power is used, the wielder experiences an invigorating euphoria and feels satiated. The blade glows dully when it has fed. The description of this item can be found in the Dungeon Masters Guide.
The fiendish aura lends me to believe that it would certainly lean toward evil. But hey it seems to like you when you get near it and glow so who’s to say. Lol.

Ravvek the Avenger |

I would assume that means it pops on my Divine Sense. :p I think Rav will pass on that one.
BTW, EVERYONE at the table can take the Rapier. We are not limited to only one person. This is Season 9 rules, however, at tier 2, we only have a max of 3 permanent magic items (Uncommon and rarer; Common magic items do not count toward Item Max.)
Feel free to ask if you have any further questions...

Raiden Bartok |

Good game all! Thank you, and y'all can have the evil life-stealing sword, no thanks says Raiden.
Taking a small break but will pop back on next month and look for new games.

Ravvek the Avenger |

Haha, I should take a break as well. I am running the Tenets of Bane series right now, but maybe I will take a month off from playing, unless someone starts up another AL game...
