How was that for a montage clip?
Also, I'm appreciative of the fact that our 200th post was our wrapping up recruitment for the first fight with our 2 week long trials!

HP 22/22, AC 17/11 T/16 FF, CMD 16, Fort +9, Ref +5, Will +6

I posted a little training montage. Not sure if I'm in this match or not, but I'm ready to jump in whenever it is my turn. :)

HP 78/78, AC 25/12/23, Saves 11/5/14

The roster is under Big Blue's Profile, and it looks like you're not on it at present - so you get a chance to sit and watch for the first bout.

HP 22/22, AC 17/11 T/16 FF, CMD 16, Fort +9, Ref +5, Will +6

yeah i just saw on the recruitment thread that i had missed the round 1 deadline. i didnt realize i had to post in the game thread to be counted. but i did read up all the threads and i am entirely caught up now so its all good.

maybe someone will have a nasty "accident" before the round starts, and will need to be replaced. muhuhuhahhahaa!

Male Drow Noble Dawnflower Dervish (Bard) 1

Lorth, that post made my night!

Loot Tracker Current Map

Loric Stick with us. There's always a chance someone will need to back out. Consider yourself "in the wings". There's only 16 slots for this match, unfortunately.

That was cool! I just typed up a response but as I was trying to post it got deleted. I'm going to try to remember what I typed.

And I agree, Lorth pretty much already won the prize. :-)

Oh but I'm not done yet.

Nothing personal Joboo.... honest :)

Male Duergar Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

Finally I've entered the fray. Though I find it a bit hard to stand toe to toe with another's descriptive text.

That is the best cup ever.

HP 78/78, AC 25/12/23, Saves 11/5/14

Aye - I was originally looking for a mustache cover - you know hooks behind the ears and covers up the tarred mustache like a sheet while you're sleeping. Then I saw the cup ;)

Male Changeling Fighter 1, Monk 1, Rogue 1, Ranger 1, Actor 5

Don't know if you've seen this or not, but this is what I hear when I think of a fight song for Lorth.

That's a good-un... here's one of my favorites

HP 17/18, AC 18/14/13 CMD 17, Fort +1, Ref +7, Will +0,

Fun reading the posts so far!

BTW: I noticed some folks are deciding on actions of others. It doesn't really matter right now but once we're having our first fight that shouldn't happend imho.

Lorn - we got permission to do some basic reactions from others as part of the power montage. You are correct that once the bouts start then it will need to stop.

HP 17/18, AC 18/14/13 CMD 17, Fort +1, Ref +7, Will +0,

tl;dr is a bad excuse right? :o

I'm going to redicule someone right away! ;)

No worries at all. It was brilliant and I went with it.

Male Gnome Alchemist(Grenadier) 1

I realized I never spent my gold and i have 30 i think, I would like to craft a bottle of acid, but looking at the crafting page it doesnt tell me much it costs, though i do believe it less then the listed price, also should i do my craft checks in the gameplay thread or here?

Male Human (HP 19/19, AC 13 CMD 18, Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +4,)

You're the best, AROUND!

Male Drow Noble Dawnflower Dervish (Bard) 1

Chess would actually have a whole lot more respect for Loric if he knew the truth of the matter, ironically.

Male Gnome Alchemist(Grenadier) 1

I fiund out my action economy/numbers are a little off, getting and using an extract is a standard action(so is bomb use and using mutagens), so i cant use the accelerated drinking trait for the extract. I also found out that the bonus damage from point blank shot also gets added to bombs

HP 20/20 AC 15 CMD 15 Fort+5 Ref+2 Will+3

this is good to know too if you aren't completely familiar with splash rules.. targeting grid can be good 1st level against high ac from dex opponents..

Splash Weapon Rules:

Throw Splash Weapon

...You can instead target a specific grid intersection. Treat this as a ranged attack against AC 5. However, if you target a grid intersection, creatures in all adjacent squares are dealt the splash damage, and the direct hit damage is not dealt to any creature. You can't target a grid intersection occupied by a creature, such as a Large or larger creature; in this case, you're aiming at the creature.

If you miss the target (whether aiming at a creature or a grid intersection), roll 1d8. This determines the misdirection of the throw, with 1 falling short (off-target in a straight line toward the thrower), and 2 through 8 rotating around the target creature or grid intersection in a clockwise direction. Then, count a number of squares in the indicated direction equal to the range increment of the throw. After you determine where the weapon landed, it deals splash damage to all creatures in that square and in all adjacent squares.

Crafting costs are usually half market value, so go with that.

Put the crafting roll in gameplay in a mechanics spoiler. You can make it part of a montage bit.

Loric certainly finds Chess's cynicism refreshing, and will probably want to team up with him in future matches, if only to try to "influence him towards a more positive view of goodness". hehe.

Montage scene will wrap up in two hours folks.

After that I'll announce the winner and the prize.

Loric: Can you give me a bluff roll? My sense motive: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2

If you beat me your tactic works, if you don't I probably just didn't really understand that I should be pissed at someone else, and I just want to beat YOU up.

edit: Based on my inability to roll, I don't even know if it's POSSIBLE for you to fail :)

I couldn't agree more. I've *dreamed* about playing a drow character in any setting, and this is a most perfect one!

Gah, all you folks and your super fancy role playing! I feel strange as Karlov is a simple man and wouldn't be doing much in terms of interacting. Oh, well, keep up the great work. Karlov will just prove himself in the 'ring' instead.

That would just be a Bull Rush where you don't move. They go 5 feet away (which is really about as far as you should expect to throw another person). The only real issue is that they aren't prone at the end of it.

If you want to chuck them farther, I think the Clouting enchantment from 3.5 basically let you hit people and send them flying. We might be able to work something similar for your club as the game progresses.

I can also see a Feat like this-

Wrestler's Toss:
Prereqs: Improved Bull Rush, Improved Trip, Improved Reposition
When you make a Reposition check against your opponent, you may count the result as a Bull Rush in addition to the usual reposition result. You do not move with this Bull Rush, though you are counted as though you did. Halve the usual distance result of this Bull Rush. At the end of their movement the target must make a Reflex save or Acrobatics check (DC equal to 10+ your CMB+the number of squares they moved) or fall prone.

Montage scene is over!

Nice work folks.

As many of you guessed, Lorth really stole the show on that one. I kept waiting for someone to trump him, but his first montage post remained king of the mountain.

For your victory Lorth, you gain one Team Swap. You may pick any two characters on different teams and switch them when I announce the team rosters.

You may not pick yourself, and Joboo is immune to this. (don't ask, reasons will be clear soon)

Team list coming soon.

Interviews!

Think of this like the montage, except each post is a short clip from an interview with your character.

Think of the beginning of The Incredibles, where it just drops into the most interesting bit.

Sample questions (don't include these in your post, just reply in such a way that the reader can figure out what the question was)

"Why do you want to be a gladiator?"

"Who do you think will be your most challenging opponent?"

"What is going to make you stand out in the arena?"

"What has been hardest for you so far?"

Best interview will also win a small reward. Interviews will last until just before the match starts on Saturday evening.

No, it's cool, DM DH had already said you could include other people in your montage stuff. I was just going to include another scene after yours.

Imply it in your interview if you want, but the action montage is done.

Male Elf Alchemist (Clone Master/Preservationist)

I knew I shouldn't have spent all day at work. Missed montage fun. Dang. But now I have a character who sounds like Sheogorath in my head which is awesome :3

Male Duergar Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

Whoops, missed the explanation of the interview in here. I guess mine kind of cut me out of being the best interview, but I was wondering if Zar'zan might be able to bring the scrying device with him into the arena. Perhaps use it to introduce himself, unexpectedly to Bandy and the crowd and mess with his fellow competitors at some point.

Edit: It will be interesting to watch the three alchemists grow and advance along their own paths. I've been intrigued with the melee capabilities and we have two rather insane builds as well.

And as for crafting, the skill for mundane items goes off of 1/3 the market price for raw material cost. Magic items tends to go off of 1/2 the market price for raw material cost.

Male Drow Noble Dawnflower Dervish (Bard) 1

I havn't seen alchemists get a lot of play until now, so I agree it's be interesting to see the variety and how they work! I'll be thoroughly looking forward to find out what kind of crazy shenanigans will be part of our first fight!

Male Gnome Alchemist(Grenadier) 1

I like that we each have a fairly different focus, same class completely different play styles

Male Duergar Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

Yeah, though I get the feeling we all would possibly go Master Chymist if we made it that far.

I'm finding it rather sad that a lot of the posting seems to go on while I'm at work though.

Male Gnome Alchemist(Grenadier) 1

Also as a hand to my fellow potion makers, I found this list which gives a quick and easy list of alchemical items and their craft dc if you scroll down a bit here, I am so making fireworks later :P

Male Gnome Alchemist(Grenadier) 1

Yeah I do plan on going that route, though thats liable to change, Zibs mind is ever changing, break and reforming, you never know he could someday become a bomb throwing bastion of good; when I was first making a character I almost went mutagen focused, being a human who tunrned into a feral beast(feral mutagen) focusing on strength but decided to with a little bomb thrower :P, also i believe we can drink each others mutagens...

Male Duergar Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

That is a handy list and I wonder if DM Doomed will go with the 1/2 the market price or 1/3.

Presses his finger to his lips...

Ssshhhh....don't give away my secrets now. And it would appear we are capable of consuming each other's mutagens. That could make for some interesting teamwork.

Would be rather interesting to see a team formed of our little trio. Seems like we could round each other out fairly well.

Male Gnome Alchemist(Grenadier) 1

A team of crazy alchemists, we would destroy everyone MWHAHAHAHAHA..cough..cough. I am curious if there is anyone who ever made a sane alchemist.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Drow Noble Dawnflower Dervish (Bard) 1

I made one once, for a high level one shot. He was actually a goblin, and exceedingly brilliant, wise, and even charismatic by that level. He was a mind chemist, and was great fun. He used glammers on all his armor to appear like this. He kind of had a thing for dragons.
Honestly, with you three, I'd be surprised if a team you were all on functioned coherently. =p
