"Thank you," says Aroden, "that is very helpful."
He turns to Jeydavhu.
"Before we go open the final room, you should read the scroll of See Invisibility that Lyrie had. You are our most powerful warrior, and you can use that scroll. Your Protection from Evil spell should keep your mind safe."
First deal with the crab and then the magic beast-thing. The crab doesn't require any preparation so let's just go kill it, nothing fancy. Maybe start off with ranged attacks.

![]() |

"Sounds like a plan, Aroden-Son! invisibility would have made that beast more annoying... let us secure some fine crab meat supper first, and then, use our crab meat filled muscles to teach that beast the downside of seafood replenishment!!"

DoubleGold |

Heroes get into room E7, Collapsed Treasure. Here there is water, lots of it and treasure in the water. You see a GOLDEN HELMET. This Golden helmet is the crab, and you know this because the person you interrogated told you so. Normally it would wake up after rounds: 1d3 ⇒ 2 and attack, SURPRISE ROUND EVERYONEONE.
2 Rounds before it wakes up, you will definitely have choice of placement on your character.

![]() |

Aroden will hit the crab with the Wand of Magic Missiles in the surprise round and then use Inspiring Sword the first full round (which is a full-round action that he can't do in the surprise round).
Once everybody is in position:
Magic Missile, 2 missiles: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9

![]() |

Mr. Monty will ready to flank with some of the others, and kick the thing once the fight starts (Surprise round, Stunning fist.)
He attacks with Aroden's sword flashing on his first full round.
Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Strike Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Flurry Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Strike Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

![]() |

Before everyone explodes into action, Jeydahvu holds a finger to his lips to indicate everyone to be quiet.
He sneaks towards the crab, hoping it remains asleep, then attempts a coup-de-grace.
Stealth vs. Crab Perception, +10 due to crab sleeping: 1d20 - 1 + 10 ⇒ (8) - 1 + 10 = 17
If Stealth successful,
Coup-de-grace, +1 bastard sword, power attack: 1d10 + 12 + 1 + 1d10 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 1 + (9) + 12 + 1 = 39 magical slashing dmg + Fort save DC 49 or die.

DoubleGold |

perc: 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 2 + (14) = 16 and Jey makes a splash or two, but luckily not too loud as the crab is really tired, then bam and the Mr. Monty hits it the same time as well.
Heroes look through the water and find lots of gold and a Jade amulet of natural armor +1
One the boss left and now you have all the keys.

![]() |

"I'll put the jade pendant for now if you all don't mind. This might be an omen of good luck! huh.... Aroden... is it magical or something? don't wanna be cursed..."

![]() |

"Yes, it is magical! It will make your skin even more stone-like!"
The heroes come up to the final door. With some idea of what is inside, Aroden decides to not bother with the Vanish trick. He'll save the Vanish in case somebody goes down - it's a great way to let people stand up when they get healed.
He reminds Jeydahvu to cast See Invisibility from the scroll.
Aroden casts Force Sword and hands it to Jeydahvu. 1d8+1 damage, like a +1 longsword, full damage to incorporeal or ethereal. Doesn't get the +2 seance boon, sadly.
Aroden then gives Faliana the +1 Bastard sword. "Hey, uh, Moke, take this sword! It's enchanted, but it's not a spell, it's good steel."
Aroden uses his bonded item to cast Magic Weapon on Mr. Monty's staff. "Go bounding forth and smite this demon!"
I assume Jeydavhu will use Shield again if needed, but his Protection from Evil is probably still up.
Everybody good with that?
Once everybody is ready, Aroden will open the door and step back behind the oread.

LEEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY JENNNNNNNNNNNNNKINSSSSSSSS

![]() |

Before the door is opened Lynn will start a low-quiet but rythmic chant to get everyone in time with one another, the heavy beat seemed to be the back-beat of her movements, something Moke would likely be familiar with.
pre-emptive inspire courage remember those +1s folks

DoubleGold |

Heroes travel through E8, communication room, where enemies would communicate through a statue to their God, a projected image of Karzoug.
E9 is the Transmutation room, it is called that, cause this is where transmutation alchemists and the like work. They could turn lead into gold, just like Nostradamus did...Just kidding, Nostradamus turned lead into brass, he thought it was gold. Treasure here heroes will come back for, it is just a bunch of gold and valueable objects, nothing magical here, so they enter the boss before the buffs go away.
init: 5 + 1d20 ⇒ 5 + (11) = 16 Lynn

Monty leaps forward, staff spinning.
Ya a big boy ain't ya?
Staff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 +2 if Aroden uses his sword.
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Snake Style - AC vs first attack in round =
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30

![]() |

"BEHOLD THE GLORY!"
Yes, Aroden uses his sword. +2 to attacks, saves, and skill checks.
Don't forget he also cast Magic Weapon on Monty's staff, which doesn't change the attack roll but does add +1 damage if he hits (although even with the +2 from Inspiring Sword he still misses this time).
+3 to hit and damage for weapon attacks
+3 to hit and +1 damage for Jeydahvu with the Force Sword
Inspiring Sword also adds to skill checks so Monty's Snake Style check is AC 32.
Looks like Faliana/Moke will have to delay until after Jeydahvu, so the oread can attack and 5' step. Also since we were preparing for this, she could have used Martial Flexibility before we opened the door - Dedicated Adversary (Evil Outsider) is a good one. Or Power Attack.

![]() |

Don't forget the +1's from Lynn preemptively starting her performance! Standard:Shoot, move:make sure i'm up by Aroden Free: maintain performance(Inspire Courage)
"Uh.. Aroden that looks a bit outside of my realm of knowledge! Anything in that big ol' noggin of yours that knows of creatures like that and how to take it down?"
Lynn would shift to the side and fire a bolt at the creature.
attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 24
damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

![]() |

Yep, got Inspire Courage.
+1/+1 competence from Inspire Courage
+2/+0 sacred from Inspiring Sword
+0/+2 untyped from Seance Booon (doesn't apply to Force Sword)
Monty, Jeydahvu, and Faliana all have +1 weapons as well.
Knowledge (Planes): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 Choosing to know Resistances.
"An evil outsider called a Greater Barghest! Spells or magic weapons are best!"
We will see in-character that the crossbow doesn't beat its DR, so maybe Lynn should be on CLW duty to make sure our fighters stay upright. Aroden has a flask of holy water she could take and throw, which could be helpful if readied to interrupt its SLA.

DoubleGold |

Lynn fires a shot at the creature and hits it square, she see the bolt sink in the creature but not deep as it pulls out the bolt with blood on it and the wound patches back up immediately.
Pathetic, you think normal weapons hurt me?! If all you have is normal weapons, you'll have to hit me harder, in softer spots.
He will cast charm monster on Lynn Now you serve me will save dc 18 or be charmed
All heroes are up

Harder? Monty hoots. Like here?

Lynn, don't forget, Inspire Courage gives you +1 vs charms and Aroden's Inspiring Sword gives +2 to all saves, so you are at +7.
@GM, did the barghest try to use the SLA defensively, or did it just accept the AOOs?

Jeydahvu begins to issue a low growl, like rocks hitting the shore repeatedly due to wave action. The growl intensifies to a point where it becomes audible to the entire vicinity of the keep, and unexpectedly, Jeydahvu's eyes begin to shine a deep emerald green, and a certain green liquid begin to ooze out of his stone-like pores, sliding over his body as if commanded by a certain intelligence, only to cover his conjured force sword entirely. Stony spikes exploding out of his skin, Jeydahvu raises the now green-glowing acid-force sword and cuts into a vicious downward arc towards the beast!

Will: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 + 2 + 4 = 16
I think i also get a +4 due to it being language dependant or maybe that's just the command part of the spell. I'll put it into the roll but if the DM see's it as not applying lemme know. Not that it matters for this roll DX also yeah if it isnt casting defensively let's hope the heavy hitters can cancel and fizzle the spell otherwise with my roll you'll all lose the extra +1 and Lynn'll be a little out of it till she can break the spell.

DoubleGold |

Lynn, don't forget, Inspire Courage gives you +1 vs charms and Aroden's Inspiring Sword gives +2 to all saves, so you are at +7.
@GM, did the barghest try to use the SLA defensively, or did it just accept the AOOs?
I forgot about that, don't have to worry about that in 5e. Go ahead in make your aoos
Mr. Monty hits Oww, that was magic, I felt that.Jeydahvu hits hard and with a magic weapon slicing a good chunk into the monster 34 dmg on it.
Looks like the +4 didn't matter anyway lyn, unless he loses the spell from aoos

Monty swings his staff again.

Monty gives Aroden a sidelong glance s he finds out that the man casts spells, but seeing as he avoids casting them on the spirit and Faliana he lets it slide. His opinion of the god-reincarnated improves as he accepts the weapon that will help with demon-slaying.
At the report of a potinetal demon his eyes widen and a manic smile crosses his face. "Ooohh! Perfect!" Taking a moment to reflect back on his admitedly spotty memory, he reminds himself on some of the best practices for killing the evil outsiders.
Martially flexing into Aroden's suggested Dedicated Adversary (Evil Outsider), as that fits Moke sooooooo well!
