Excellent. I'm curious what higher tier people will be facing, too. What are they protecting us from?
Quan Tai |
Website issues are the worst issues.
Quan Tai |
I don't think it makes much of a difference, but I think we are missing some damage.
Minimum Damage: If penalties reduce the damage result to less than 1, a hit still deals 1 point of nonlethal damage.
TheAlicornSage |
Hey, I did say that I moved up, as in closer to the enemy.
Please remember, I can't edit google stuff.
Given that the load time is litetally more than 5 minutes, I honestly have only occasionally bothered to even look at the map. (Haven't really needed to yet anyway, as GM has done well with description.)
GM kuey |
Naomi, as mentioned earlier, if you have any issues with my ruling, please take it up with me via pm. I have pm'ed you.
GM kuey |
Dear all, if you can try to post as soon as possible, that would be great. I know we've set the guidelines of once a day, but more frequently would be best (especially when factoring in chances of bad rolls). As you know, there is a time limit for each scene, and although I don't think I can reveal what that is, we are cutting it a bit close right now.
Quan Tai |
As we approach the end of this section, will you "bot" characters? I know you asked for bot instructions and I'd be disappointed to fail an objective because someone had a busy day and didn't have a chance to post.
GM kuey |
Yes, as you can see from my latest post, I'm botting things now, while keeping an eye on the timeline. The poor collective attack rolls from everyone in the last few rounds though have not helped.
Naomi Hiddenleaf |
I apologize for my dissappearance. Recent days were not nice.
Note, except for weekends, I rarely have the chance for more than one post per day.
I work 7 days a week, my only fun stuff is what I can stuff in the cracks between work/eat/sleep, or do at work.
Quan Tai |
And I thought carrying soap around was just a character quirk.
Azhagoth Fellcleaver |
@Ouncius: I appreciate you not wanting to use up my resources, but my wand has dozens of charges compared to your small handful of potions. Ultimately the cost comparison is much better for a wand, and part of the reason I bought the wand was to help with healing other party members, not just myself. That's sort of one of the roles I've taken on as a divine caster. Besides, your potions will be more helpful in case you get into a tough spot in battle. It's usually a lot easier for you to spend your turn drawing and drinking a potion than for me to move to your location, draw my wand, and then use it on you. Ultimately, it's up to you what you wanna do with your potions, but I'm glad to help out with a wand if/when you need it.

I usually don't do this as it can be spoilers but I'm really bursting to share. Since you're past the encounter, and you can't play it again anyway, I think it's fine. :)
The fight with Judge Heng could have been very nasty. Other than his combat reflexes, he can cast darkness (slowing down significantly your ability to find and sound the gong, and he has super high perception to find you in the darkness) and deep slumber (possibly knocking out everyone). His CMB and CMD are incredibly high so he'll just keep tripping whoever attempts to sound the gong, or grapple you and throw you into the trapped alcoves. He also has 2 attacks per round with +9 to hit, and damage of 1d6+6. Each! He could have taken down most of you in one round each! And he has regeneration 5!!! When prepping this, I foresaw a long hard fight, but with bad rolls from him, and more importantly, the very lucky crit by Azhagoth, it ended surprisingly fast. Oh well, the dice lands where it lands. :)
Naomi Hiddenleaf |
Why was the assumption a fight anyway? Aside from my original plan of mage hand, a group can easily have one person beside gong, with others filling adjacent spaces and either taking total defense, keeping the gaurdian from reaching the pc who uses the gong, or they each can ready actions to aid another for giving ac boosts to the target of the guardian's attacks.
I honestly expected the gaurdian to be tougher precisely because this is exactly the type of test designed to punish those ignoring the objective.
Personally, I would have made the gaurdian even tougher than you described, though favoring a more non-lethal approach if it were my design.

Let's remember that Ouncius is out of town for the weekend. We may need to bot him a bit through this final encounter, though hopefully things don't go so fast that he's not able to get back and chip in a bit himself. I know how frustrating it can be to have others bot you through the final part of a major mission. It happened to me some towards the end of Sky Key Solution last year. Though it was fun to see others take advantage of some of the quirky things I had built into my character!
Quan Tai |
Did you move Ouncius around? I thought I set up a flank for Bishop, but I was still writing my post when Bishop acted.
Bishop 'The Dark Augur' |
[ooc] oh apologies Quan. I read flank from Ounicus' attack and saw his token wasnt in right spot so I moved it
Quan Tai |
No worries. But, you should move him back.
I'd switch places on the map, then edit your post to ready for my five-foot step and add the flank bonus.
Bishop 'The Dark Augur' |
I just realized though that elementals can't be flanked anyhow nor are they subject to sneak attack.
Quan Tai |
You are right. It doesn't make much difference.
GM kuey |
As we are nearing the end, we can do the boon rolls. Since we still have time, I'll let you guys roll rather than roll on your behalf. Roll a 1d20. A 1 or a 20 earns you a boon. If you win, roll a 1d3 to determine your boon.
Me first!
1d20 ⇒ 13 Nope...
Also, please check that all your details are correct at this link as I would be preparing the chronicles soon. Bishop, I'm still missing yours.
Naomi Hiddenleaf |
Perhaps not the most team friendly move, but given the objective, there isn't a lot of room for teamwork except perhaps moving in a formation.
In any case, Naomi won't be stupid about moving up. She'll move, tumbling through threatened squares when they can't be avoided, then using total defense for the ac bonus.
Eyes on the prize guys, the elementals are a distraction, something to circumvent, nothing more.
My boon roll,
Boon: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Not like I'll ever get one, wouldn't know what to do with it anyway.
Quan Tai |
Boon: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Paging Lox, Bishop and Ouncius to take your actions? How well we clear this final scenario is very much dependent on the speed at which we do so.

Thanks GM kuey. This was my third PbP and I did not have a good experience the other two times. I swore I wouldn't do it again, but I wanted to play this scenario. I am glad I did. You did a good job. Thanks for your time and effort.
Thanks everyone. Good table. I had fun. I enjoyed playing with you all. I enjoyed your characters. Very flavorful.

Thanks, Lox! My first time GMing a special, so glad you had a good time! There was a lot of backend support in the GM forums, too. That helped! (Thanks, Shifty!)
And also thanks to everyone for playing! Hope you had a good time!
Don't give up on PbP just yet. I play a combination of face-to-face, real-time roll 20, and PbP and each platform has its advantages. One thing I really like about PbP is that you have the time to really think through what your character would do, and that allows me to flesh out my characters much more in PbP than the other platforms. Often, I find that my character doesn't come alive until I've brought him through at least one round of PbP.
And PbP is fantastic for the more roleplay heavy scenarios!
p.s. Bishop, I'm still missing your PFS information in the table.
GM kuey |
Dear all, you can your chronicles sheets here. Will also put up a link at the top of the page.
Let me know if there're any problems. (Bishop, I pulled out the info from an earlier game you were in.)
Naomi Hiddenleaf |
Good gming Kuey, definitely above the average. I would suggest though, that if you have a player in the future with issues with google stuff, to either make separate files, or overwrite the earlier maps. Towards the end the download time got to the point I never saw the final battle map. Hopefully though, you won't need to worry about it.
I have mixed feelings on the scenerio, it felt like like one person drafted an awesome design that rewarded the sort of wisdom that real warriors would need, but then felt like someone else tried to secretly punish any sort of wisdom or intelligent thought.
I.e. the rubies having a different (and less favorable) chance of activating than stated, as one of a few things.
Azhagoth Fellcleaver |
Sweet! Thanks for another great game, Kuey! And thanks to all the players for your good work in combat and all the really fun interactions. I know Azhagoth can be abrasive, so I appreciate you all playing along. :D
Hope to see you all in another game soon!

Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
just made it.
sorry Kuey had an exam this week and now am fighting the flu filled out the card before reading your post here.
Great game all!
Azhagoth Fellcleaver |
Oh faction things! I always forget about that in PbP. I'll try to finalize a report to the Society.
Wisdom check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Sweet!
