Correct. I chose the random resonance method for the exact reasons you have stated—less certainty, more variability. I know you don't care for this, but it doesn't make wayfinders worthless. Just "dicier".

Astraden's purchases:
- black traveler's outfit with violet-colored vest (1 gp)
- silver holy symbol of Olidammara (25 gp)
- seven days of good meals (3.5 gp)
- eight days of feed for Lynwerd (4 gp)
- lodging for seven days (2.1 gp)
- eight days of stabling for Lynwerd (4 gp)

So, Tanith, you want to take the Fleet ioun stone and I'll take the poison-save one?
If I'm reading it right, the stones have different properties in different wayfinders. So you (probably) won't get the same powers with one of those two stones in your wayfinder as he does in his wayfinder. However, you should be able to roll to see what new benefits his stones grant while in your wayfinder.

If that's what you prefer, To me, it seems more like playing slots. The person who usually wins is the house.
In short, Farrukh might like it, but I don't. =)

Really? Huh.
I might as well give them a try.

This isn't my reading, but I think it's a bit ambiguous, so I'm open to it if it's what Carina prefers. That ruling only applies to the one wayfinder, though—buying numerous more wayfinders to get a cheaper means of testing for resonance isn't going to fly. ;)

Expenses (shamelessly stolen from Astraden's post):
- seven days of good meals (3.5 gp)
- lodging for seven days (2.1 gp)

75% of ioun stones grant resonant powers when placed in a wayfinder. 25% of cracked or flawed ioun stones have resonant powers (see Wayfinders and Ioun Stones) compared to the 75% chance for typical ioun stones; only 10% of scorched ioun stones have resonant powers. 25% of cracked or flawed ioun stones have resonant powers (see Wayfinders and Ioun Stones) compared to the 75% chance for typical ioun stones; only 10% of scorched ioun stones have resonant powers.
By my reading, Tanith, no. Unlike the powers chart, the 25% chance is purely a part of the stone itself, and is not part of the combinations.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Well those two are resonant but shouldn't they get different powers with Carina's wayfinder?

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

I understand. I promise to nail down my shopping first thing as soon as I get home and get a 'we get ready to depart "post started.

*SALT LEVELS CRITICAL*

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Okay, time to figure out these ioun stones.
Cracked Deep Red Sphere: +1 competence bonus on one Dexterity-based skill
2d7 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 (Escape Artist and Stealth)
Cracked Incandescent Blue Sphere: +1 competence bonus on one Wisdom-based skill
2d5 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 (Perception x2)
Cracked Mossy Disk: +1 competence bonus on one Knowledge skill
2d10 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 (Knowledge [Geography] and Knowledge[Arcana])
Cracked Pink and Green Sphere: +1 competence bonus on one Charisma-based skill
2d7 ⇒ (7, 2) = 9 (Diplomacy and Use Magic Device)
Cracked Scarlet and Blue Sphere: +1 competence bonus on one Intelligence-based skill
2d13 ⇒ (3, 8) = 11 (Knowledge[Arcana] and Knowledge[Local])
The resonant ones were #3 and #10 so Carina's got one that grants +1 to perception and Tanith's got the knowledge [local] one.
Anyone want any of these for half price?
Other purchases:
Wrestling Belt of Strength +4
Mildly Serpentine but Mostly Ursine Tattoo of Dirty Tricks

Dungeon Kobold |

The nominations were a disgrace. This is just adding insult to injury. But I hate being insulted by people like this:
"I only watch the ones that my kid wants to see, so I didn't see [The] Boxtrolls but I saw Big Hero 6 and I saw [How to Train Your] Dragon [2]. We both connected to Big Hero 6 — I just found it to be more satisfying. The biggest snub for me was Chris Miller and Phil Lord not getting in for [The] Lego [Movie]. When a movie is that successful and culturally hits all the right chords and does that kind of box-office — for that movie not to be in over these two obscure freakin' Chinese f~!+in' things that nobody ever freakin' saw [an apparent reference to the Japanese film The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, as well as the Irish film Song of the Sea]? That is my biggest b@*@&. Most people didn't even know what they were! How does that happen? That, to me, is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen."

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

The local one was one of the resonant ones so Tanith's keeping it.
Tanith paid 200g each for them. For 100g the stealth one's yours!

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Carina did you finish scribing from those spellbooks?

Kobold Catgirl |

How's that an insult exactly? I'm confused.
@Tanith: I'll take the Stealth and Kn. Local ones. They're 100 apiece, right?
It's an insult in the "added to injury" sense. The Lego Movie getting snubbed was the "injury". That Big Hero Six (the most unremarkable movie of the lot) managed to then beat four stupendous films is the "insult"—I would have been much more okay with The Lego Movie getting left out if at least a good movie like How To Train Your Dragon 2 had been allowed to triumph.
That particular quote is just reflecting the prominent mindset of people who vote on the nominated films. "What're those movies? Some Chinese crap? Well, I didn't see half the movies on this list, but I'm gonna vote anyways."

Rynjin |

Ah. Amend that Local check to a 20 then.
But I'll take the Stealth one for sure.
Actually if we're retconning some purchases, would I be able to find a Cracked Magenta Prism? I like the idea of a flexible +2 to a skill, I've never seen this one before.
And an Ioun Torch.
Actually I just remembered, we wanted a high CL Ioun Torch to counter Darkness spells. Would we be able to find that? It'd take a caster able to cast a Heightened Continual Flame up to at least 6th level, so 11*6*10 = 660, plus 25 fornthe Dull Gray Stone.

Carina Viera |

ACK! Forgot to do that!
Can I scribe them in real quick? Just need to put Tenser's Brawl in, and some other spells that I might need...

What's wrong with Big Hero Six?

Astraden Limhaare |

KC, by the way, can I roll for the rapier having light generation or just assume it didn't have any?
Also, could you guys refresh my memory on what spells you want prepared for today?

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Considering we haven't actually started I doubt it'll be a problem Carina.
Astraden, we need you to bring a Magic Circle vs Evil and a couple Ebon Eyes.

Carina Viera |

Alright--I'll just take 10 for Spellcraft to get Tenser's Brawl. I'll even have an extract of it ready.
I'll bring 2 Ebon Eyes extracts for this run--I think I'll save Identify for when we're done there.

Kobold Catgirl |

Yeah, you can find that stuff alright.

Sure, go ahead and roll.
What's wrong with Big Hero Six?
Not really anything, despite my ranting. It's just a fairly "okay" movie. Not many surprises. I'd put it on the level with Bolt or Atlantis. My problem isn't that it's bad, it's that all the other movies were better. BH6 is just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Gotcha. I'm gonna have to wait on putting up a spell list post. Hoping to finish a couple assignments tonight . . .
We needed Astraden to bring a silence too.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Ioun stones are awesome. They've given us the joy of TCG booster packs and yard sales!

![]() |

Tanith, I think I'll pick up one of the Perception-boosting stones. Then I can auto-aid.
Who wants air walk and freedom of movement? Carina or Rodrigo, do you want me to drop magic circle against law on you? (Probably best to keep it out of melee so Farrukh doesn't get weakened.)
And should I lay down magic circle against evil now or wait until we get closer to the flayer's lair?

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Why would grappling affect your damage output?

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

I'm pretty sure that got FAQed like two years ago. You totally can TWF in a grapple.
But if KC rules otherwise that's good by me. Grapple can use all the help it can get.

Kobold Catgirl |

From what I understand, no. Grapple assumes that at least one of your hands is occupied. You can't take an action that requires two hands, such as two-weapon fighting.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

I think we're holding off on the other magic circles until we're confident we're in the mindflayer's lair.
