GMFallingDarkness aka Edelsmirge has asked me to create a recruitment for his WotW campaign, in which he'll allow monster races:

Character Creation:

Paizo only. The GM isn’t overly familiar with 3pp, so please don’t ask.

Races are limited to up to 30 RP.

Level one.

Focus/Foible: Choose a Focus, an ability score at which you excel. You receive an 18 in that score. Choose a Foible, an ability score that is your weakness. You receive an 8 in that score.
The other four, roll 1d10+7. You may place these four as you desire.

Classes that get 2 skill points per level now get four. All other classes’ skills are unchanged. Background skills are also in use.

2 traits, one of which must be from the player's guide.

Unchained Summoner, other unchained okay as well.

Every character must be lawful neutral, lawful evil, neutral or neutral evil. Of those four alignments, lawful evil is definitely the preferred choice.

The AP will be set in Golarion, with Talengrade being inside the Eye of Abendego. Remember that you have committed a vile, evil, crime that you are 100% guilty of. You did this willingly, and you are condemned to either death or hard labor in the salt mines(till you die).

Finally, the GM really wants to make sure there’s strong loyalty among the players(not necessarily their characters, lol) so preference is going to be given to those in my discord servers or to those who I’ve played with before. People I know and can vouch for as being committed.

Dotting in with interest not sure what I’ll bring yet, though obviously as I’m new loyalty can’t be vogued for yet.

stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

I have a character in WOTW that is sadly stalled whom I would like to bring back.

I guess he can still worship who he does if he is neutral Evil rather then chaotic evil though.

He did have a fair degree of backstory in terms of really hating Mithrans for understandable reasons (Mithrans did essentially set his tribe on fire for worshipping Demon Lords), and is a Welsh-Viking Raider.

Characer Name: Dylan ap Dryfedd

Long ass Background:

The Son of 2 Caernish Raiders, Dylan ap Dryfedd grew up worshipping Lust and Vengeance and Battle (Nocticula and Nurgal, although many in his tribe think that they worshipped Callistria and Gorum, alas, their prayers were not answered by the ones who they thought the be answering them), his tribes demon worshipping priesthood was most pleased to see him manifesting an Abyssal Bloodline, and he was handpicked to participate in a Raid on the isolated Mithran monastery of Farne-Lindis.

There he performed well, committing murder by slaying several guard, before comitting duelling to the death by challenging a Paladin and killing him as well (cleverly using a grease patch), before claiming his armor as his own further blackening his soul in the process by commiting Deadly Robbery, he then tried to consort with the ruinous powers as well as Blasphemy by attempting to summon a Succubus by sacrificing 6 captured Monks, however, only 2 of them were actually virgins, so all he got was a perfumed letter of complaint, in elegant feminine abyssal handwriting and a bunch of dretches.
He used the dretches to great effect, figuring out that their clouds could be made burnable if the dretches were drunk, and used this to blew the remaining resistance, giggling like a madman at this act of Arson. He then rounded up his activities on the Island by extorting some rich visitors who were not Mithrans into profaning Mithras name, and offering sacrifices to Nocticula, before moving on to enslave several servants that were captured, these slaves he sold to a visiting pirate vesell later.
Of course it would have been rude to set off without paning Mithra Mithra, sexually confused Marilith with delusions of grandeur, have you found you last 2 hands yet? Spoiler, they are in your arse in blood over the main Altar, an act of heresy and desecration that was relatively unparalleled in recent times. As well as writing I didnt empty the cookie-jar on the professionally pilfered and looted cementary, a pretty clear act of graverobbing.

After this happy act of Piracy, racking up 13 capital crimes in a single day, he went to sleep in his bed, thinking that the ruinous powers would certainly bless him for his mettle, displayed at such an early age! Alas, several ruinous powers were indeed interested, but not as interested as the followers of Mithra in gaining vengeance. Aided by wind magics and feats of divine scrying, the Mithran navy caught up with the Fimbulvetr and sunk it, Dylan being frankly quite unlucky to be picked up alive.

Forgot to roll
Focus: Strength
Foible: Wisdom
Abiliy: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Abiliy: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Abiliy: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Abiliy: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

"It is a fact that cannot be denied: the wickedness of others becomes our own wickedness because it kindles something evil in our own hearts."

Carl Jung

Greeting my fellow adventurers. Welcome to the recruitment for Way of the Wicked.

A bit about myself: I have been on the boards over five years in one game and in a bunch of other games as well.

Out in the real world I have been gaming since the white books and GM'd every edition after. I like gothic horror and fantasy and long walks in the rain with haunting or spooky music.

stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

hoo boy! now to figure out who to build...

Ooh, I’m very interested. So we’re building our own races, then?

Rolls:
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Hmm. Not fantastic, but not at all bad either. I’ll see what I can come up with.

Actually it's using races from Pathfinder 1e under 30 pts, except no Drow for plot reasons.

Do the races have to be monstrous?

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Focus: CHA
Foible: WIS

Sounds interesting. I know I've tried this particular campaign once or twice, including running it. That was years ago and I remember little of it, so it could be fun to try again.

In regards to the 30 rp monsters, should be choosing existing ones? If we choose something that is not on par with that, should we bump it up with the rest of the points?

Edit: Noted your response on monster choices while I was figuring out my post.

Focus: Intelligence
Foible: Strength

Ability Roll 1: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Ability Roll 2: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Ability Roll 3: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Ability Roll 4: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Edit: After putting some thought into it, I’m considering a wyrwood wizard.

Hi :)

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

I'll think of something tomorrow.

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Will add more details tomorrow! Thanks GM and Monkeygod for putting it together.

A player may chose human elf etc just as well. Also what ever race you pick that is what you get. No extra bonus beyond what each race gets.

I'll go for Augghh the Unclean. Orc barbarian, beatstick, meat shield and cook!

Focus: Strength
Foible: Charisma (this is going to be one nasty orc)
Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

I'm in the market for one additional game right now. I've also felt that a player focused approach to forming a game is the right way to go.

Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

I suppose it's hard to know before you figure out who the players are, but do you have a sense of what level of optimization you're looking for?

Character Concept:

I was struck by a character concept a few months ago that has stuck with me. The idea is a loathsome, wretched cleric who channels negative energy. In my head, their negative magic is a corrupting influence. They're not quite sure what deity has bestowed them with their dark power, and in most ways they wish they didn't have it. Being evil sucks. But as their cleric levels grow, they will descend to ever lower depths of depravity.

Looking over these stats, I'm not sure I can actually pull off such a concept. Mechanically, it's fairly MAD, since Channeling keys off Cha, being a Cleric keys off Wis, and having some other stats for fighting is also pretty important. I'll stick to this idea for now and wait to see what level of optimization is expected before confirming.

About Me:

I will make sure to repost this information on my final submission post, assuming I end up writing one.

I'm in my 20s and have been RPGing for quite a few years now. I stopped playing tabletop due to the pandemic and turned to PbP, which I've enjoyed. My first ever post on the boards was a recruitment post for a homebrew PbP I was GMing, which finished in January. I wanted to keep PbPing, and three out of four of my players stuck with me as we started a new game, which is currently in the early stages. I've GMd five other players on the boards. I haven't looked into your posting history enough to know who you've played with, to be honest it didn't take me that long to reach a conclusion about you, but if you've played with any of these people you can feel free to ask them about me.

Edeldhur. Solicitor. CampinCarl. ZahirIbnMahmoudIbnJothan. Clebsch.

I've also joined two games as a player. One game I joined without conducting enough research on, and didn't find that I enjoyed very much. I think I had improper expectations. I left when I realized that I wasn't having much fun. The other game I joined is currently on hiatus. The GM left due to personal reasons, but has plans to return within a month or so. I've enjoyed that game a lot, but it hasn't gone too far yet. I've looked at a few other recruitment threads the past few weeks, so far this one has looked the most promising. I'm not going to link the players I've been in games with, except for Axolotl, who I've done a bit of RP with.

As a GM, I've always preferred running setting light, high ambience homebrew games with a heavy focus on tactical play and strong standalone thematic elements. As a player, I like to feel challenged. I enjoy RPing with other players, but I need to spend time getting to know my characters in a way that some don't. I don't like reading lore, despite the fact that I enjoy fantasy novels. In the PbP format, I've found that I have fairly strong creative writing skills, which I'd like to continue to develop. I haven't played in a lot of adventure paths, or with a super wide range of other players.

would Occult classes be acceptable?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I will form my game around the players. If I get a bunch of murder hobos optimized to the teeth then hey I get to update my good guys a bit.

Question for monkey: what are you planning to play with?

Keeper of Runes:

I am not fond of occult but it's Pathfinder legal so I would look at it for sure.

I had also wondered about Occult -- I'd written this PC up for a previous Way of the Wicked game. Fractured Mind Spiritualist who was the victim of a botched resurrection by a Talingarde priest; the phantom represents the part of her soul that never got brought back. She's a tad bitter.

But if occult isn't desired could get the same flavor from a Soulbound Unchained Summoner with the Shattered Psyche curse.

Background:

From the journal of Capt. Solverni Rue:

… In a cavern below the keep we found their victims, beaten and terrified but alive — all save one, Farahzad Eisale, eldest daughter of Tamil Eisale.

Crusader Alon, who studied with the church for years before becoming a knight, rushed forward and laid his hands upon the girl’s forehead, intoning a prayer of revival. And for a moment, we thought it had worked. The girl’s chest heaved with breath again, and her eyes flew open …

but inside her eyes was a void like the night sky. And then she screamed, and did not stop.

A letter from Brother Felis:

Farahzad has shown improvements in recent weeks; she no longer lies motionless in her room for hours — or worse, spends the daylight hours screaming as if in agony until she falls unconscious from exhaustion. This is a relief to the acolytes charged for her care, though they still find her unnerving.

But I persevered and endeavored to strike up conversations with her — not of her ordeal with the fallen, of course, but of happier things such as horseback riding or calliagraphy or dancing. The conversation turned to the church when a group of acolytes walked by on their way to the temple. The girl asked what the purpose of the temple was, and confused, I explained it was a commune with Mitra and look upon his aspects.

“But Mitra is the Sun,” she replied. “You should worship outside, staring up at the sun while you pray.” She pointed at the sun blazing straight above us. “Why don’t you do that now? Stare into Mitra and pray.”

More befuddled than ever, I explained that one cannot look directly at the sun’s radiance when she grew agitated and interrupted. “EXACTLY! Because you would be struck blind … Mitra blinds those who love him. He is the tyrant of the day. ”

She interrupted a funeral service yesterday, shouting at the mourners that there is no reward for the faithful, nor punishment for the wicked — not even the Boneyard where souls may be judged. “Mitra leaves us nothing! Nothing but the void!” she cried.

If an inquisitor were to overhear …

The next day, via a Sending spell:

The girl is a demon! I have locked her in her room. Summon Sir Balin quickly!

Report of Sir Balin:

My men and I were deployed to the St. Marcarius cloister upon the report of a demonic influence inside the sanitarium. When we arrived however, the campus was in the midst of a riot by patients, and two of the buildings were already burned. The chief illuminant, Brother Felis, and two others are thought to have perished in the blaze, may Mitra embrace their souls.

The one responsible is clear: Farahzad Eisale, the daughter of the Eisale family and a patient here. She was found inside the temple defacing Mita’s sunburst symbol with a black circle, beneath which was painted the slogan, “Put out the light.” The girl continued shouting those words to other patients as we carried her off, pointing first at the ruined temple, then at the sky itself.

I do not understand why these monks were so lenient with an obvious agent of corruption, but mercy was the wrong choice. She will face justice now.

personality:

Her psyche was split by the botched resurrection, so her personality differs quite a bit depending on whether her phantom is in her consciousness or not. When it is, she's short-tempered and prone to bouts of uncontrolled fury. When the phantom is on its own, she literally has no anger left in her — though she retains a bloodless sort of malice.

Her hatred doesn't extend to others she sees as victims, especially children. She may verbally abuse them for weakness — projecting weakness she sees in herself for being captured and killed — but would avoid actually hurting them.

I wasn’t too tied to the occult just like ‘em a bit more so I’ll stay away from them then! I’m thinking of making a cleric who’s a young boy born with a birthmark of a holy symbol of Asmodeus and thrown out by his family because of it, on the streets he his the mark and tried to survive but was found out eventually, should have more backstory/states up in the next day or two!

Lapyd wrote:

I'm not sure, honestly. I was originally leaning towards some sort of poisoner build, but there's a couple other ideas I've had since then.

And here is Mightypions submission, very glad that this is not ruins of Azlant or wrath of the righteous, on account of a non existing will save :).

He may dip into fractured mind at a plot opportune point, but it will be a single level dip.

Liberty's Edge

Nice!
I've played the first two books (maybe?) some year back, before the campaign dried out. If that's not a blocker, I think Asmodean Advocate cleric would fit nicely. I hope good old human race is not too boring for this one.

Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Stat: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

rrright, such rolls just when I'd be happy with SAD score the Focus/Foible already provides o_O .

I know you said it’s Paizo only, but would it be a fair assumption that the Way of the Wicked feats/etc. are fair game? Like the ones to build up towards vampire or lich?

Dotting in with interest.

stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Uh. That's quite low in comparison.

As my GPS always says, "Recalculating..."

Oh yes it is fair to say that Way of the Wicked feats will become available as the players advance. Bwa hahahahaha

GM Falling Darkness wrote:

Oh this is great! Would I be able to start with the "Bitten" feat (of course, writing about it on the background and explaining the circumstances), or do I have to wait for it to happen in game? If selected, I'd love to go this route, but I'm totally onboard if I have to wait, and will just go a different route on the background. I'm building a bard, but a fairly different one that would be expected :)

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

How very nearly average.

Hrm. Centaur makes it under the 30 rp budget and I haven't tried playing one before. Also a tauress criminal sounds amusing. Large may be a problem though. I suppose that's what reduce person is for...we're going to be a magus I think.

Are the normal damnation things also in play? Half fiend is a fun template for a martial, and doesnt like, take 5 feats to get there :)

I’m thinking a centaur, using their special Cavalier archetype. When else will I get to play a centaur? Then again, when else could I play a Shobhad and TWF greatswords? lol

Hello all!

Hmmm...Way of the Wicked....sounds absolutely dreamy!!

Thanks for upping the base skill ranks. Definitely opens up options.

30 rp race? I really need to read the Player's Guide if it's that high...lol.

stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

18
8

Much researching and reading to do!

Thank you for running!

This is Dorian Grey's work in progress.

He was originally a Mesmerist, but you mentioned that you are not fond of Occult classes.

I haven't played a true Rogue in a while...lol!

Having the two "8"'s meant choosing between Int and Cha. I may fiddle around with the numbers, but, I like Virgil and I wouldn't mind seeing him in action again.

30 rp was tempting, but I like the core races too much.

The Trait from the Player's Guide is from the list of Crimes of the Forsaken?

Player's Guide?

I will write up his Crime(s) once that is confirmed.

Any questions, concerns please let me know.

Got my stats up.

Is there a good place to view these monster progression feats?

I am substantially less excited about the idea of a character slowly being corrupted by the evil magic they use after reading the player's handbook. It seems like we're supposed to be pretty sold on the idea of being evil right from the get go.

Also, I literally couldn't figure out how to make my stats work for a cleric that uses channel energy. I'm going a different route.

Lapyd: the feats are meant to be gained during play but for a bard you might go Dhampir and some alternate racial Traits might give you the feel you want background wise straight out the gate.

Dorian: the trait is from the list of crimes one of which you must have from the players guide.

The players guide does in general suggest that most races are open and that chosing races should be done with some thought. Take a read of it.

Way of the Wicked....awesome, 30 rp race..more awesome

I really want to play an Ogre Alchemist with the Vestigial Head feat.

Stats could be
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 = 15 DEX
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 -2+2 = 11 WIS
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 +4 = 16 STR
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13+2 = 15 CON
Focus: 18 -2 = 16 INT
Foible: 8 -2 = 6 CHA

obviously imprisoned for Arson.
Lawful alingment is hard to justify, but NE sounds reasonable for a more self-centered ogre who wants to get some benefit out of his doings instead of aimlessly wrecking havock.

There are several storyline feats that could really come into their own:

Dylan would be interested in eventually gaining:

Nemesis

Possible nemesis candidate:

Ara-Mathra? Who may have killed his mother, a fearsome half fiend Were-Lion Bloodrager, in combat. Dylan would need to grow a fair bit in stature before an angel of that calibre would even become aware of his existence

As well as possibly:
Champion He is proud, cocky and does plenty of duels.

Plenty of others available, innocent blood, damned, etc.

MelvinVorthos wrote:

I think that I can make an evil healer.

I'm thinking tiefling.

tiefling ability: 1d100 ⇒ 96 Ventriloquism? That could be useful.

Thank you for responding. I have adjusted his Backstory to fit the AP.

I believe that he is ready. Let me know if you have any questions.

How many players were you thinking? And how long will recruitment be open?

I do not think that I am on any of your Discord servers, but I believe that I have (am currently) gaming with quite a few you may know.

Thank you again!

@MightyPion I just seen Fanglord has See in Darkness! I have been considering swapping his Str and Int for the Gloommage Talents...lol.

You could go for three heads. Larry,Daryl, other brother Daryl

I myself was going old school with Larry, Curly, and Moe.

I am thinking five players right now but I may go six if I can come up with some ideas on how the AP can handle that and still be a challenge past mid level.

I will be most likely recruiting evil doers until 6/15 unless I get the five or so best candidates that have ever been born that Monkey and I curse the heavens for making us game with such genius players.

Regular feats? We're not doing any of the feat tax stuff? I haven't seen anything about it, but figured I'd ask to be sure.

Normal feat progression, thanks.

Hi GM! It's Lapyd here with my "very different" bard - Leralesti is a svirfneblin bard! :) I'm still working on some details on her profile and trying to get it as complete as possible. If I'm not mistaken, for Way of the Wicked we don't actually purchase gear, right? Since we start already in the prison.

If you have any questions or concerns, just let me know. Thanks again for the opportunity to submit my concept!

Black Dow taking a bite... (waves to MG) - Way of the Wicked again hombre :)

Pitching Wiktor Hrobka - Ghoul-Bloodline Sorcerer, former grave digger and condemned "Eater of the Dead" for your nefarious delectation.

Focus: Charisma
Foible: Intelligence

Ability Roll 1: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 = Dexterity
Ability Roll 2: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 = Wisdom
Ability Roll 3: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 = Constitution
Ability Roll 4: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 = Strength

Crime: Grave Robbery

Some questions for GM & MG:

- Noted 2 Traits for starters; is Additional Traits Feat permissible (I'm a big fan of traits) and/or Drawback for an additional trait?

- Idea for Wiktor is he was once menial staff for the prison... was then corrupted (his ghoulish bloodline awoken - most likely by Deumus, one of the Arch Dukes of Hell and The Glutton of the Graves). Deumus then compelled Wiktor to begin "indulging" in his hunger and the dullard began consuming the criminal cadavers he had buried... Feeding on their cold, evil flesh only further damning his own body and soul. Upon discovery of his crimes he has been labelled infernally insane and sentenced to death... Would such an origin work (as in connected to the prison itself? Will be taking a rank in Profession to reflect.

Need to tweak Wiktor based on the above rolls, as I'd created him on a 20 point build for a future WoTW pitch.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I like traits too, but some are more then half feats and I like seeing them in backgrounds. So, use additional traits feat and get more that way.

That was part of my tauress logic!

Here's the centaur I'm using (it's not perfectly the bestiary centaur, but it's close enough that quibbling over it isn't worth the time.)

I'm picking high crime or possibly Heresy, I haven't decided if I'm going to dip a divine class or not for this magus.
