Protectors of Golarion (Wrath of the Righteous AP) - Recruitment

Recruitment

Xandarian's journey up north is more fleshed out. Think Golarion Lampoon's Kenabres Vacation.

All right! Finished rewriting the new backstory for Elliot to account for the bard to arcanist change along with the new Riftwarden campaign trait. I also added some associated NPC's (his family and the theatre group mostly) and a progress plan for his full arcane caster build.

@Worldwound GM, is there anything you dislike in this new submission or would advise me to change? Also: good luck in the selection process! Lots of good submissions from the looks of things.

Understood, I'll just save it for now. Thanks Worldwound GM! And good luck to everyone who's submitted!

I would NOT want to be the one to decide on characters for this. SO MANY good ones...

Good Luck, everyone, and to you too, WWGM.

Looks fine to me!

I would question whether Eliot needs to be a Scion of Humanity, especially given that part of his backstory seems to be predicated on the fact that he doesn't pass as human. I'd say drop that, unless you have some big reason to keep it.

Other than that, there is, in fact, a major NPC who is a member of the Riftwardens, and he will show up almost immediately upon the start of the AP.

But yes, I'm not looking to paring down the recruits myself. It's my least favorite part of these recruitment efforts.

It's everyone's least favorite part. Yet as all things, it must happen eventually

Sad Truth.

At this point im just going through and cleaning minor errors and putting things into more readable formats.

Yeah, definitely fair points. Looking back, it doesn't make much sense indeed. I picked that racial trait mostly because aasimar do not have a favored class bonus for arcanists whereas humans do (and the previous incarnation was also a scion of humanity, but a bard). For arcanists, while it's also learning a lower level spell to add to the book, they can learn spells from other spell books as well, making the human FBC matter much less, I think. Actually, it might even be a weaker FCB than just hit points or skillpoints depending on how broad access to other spellbooks would be, though he should be fine either way. I'll edit that out and change his appearance further towards emberkin aasimar.

Well, there being a riftwarden major NPC right at the start seems very convenient! Already a huge deviation from the video game adaptation. Perhaps this person could be my main instructor, then?

Yes, the video game gives you a few people who aren't in the AP - most of the party members are not. And one of the AP's NPCs is, well, dead in the game, but not in the AP. It diverges pretty much right away, because it only has one assumed PC not four or five.

But yes, he will probably be your mentor if you studied magic with the Riftwardens, if only 'cause it will be the most interesting choice.

Silver Crusade

I'm not going to refine my character concept because, as I wrote earlier, many of the decisions will be based upon rules choices (feat taxes, etc.) and the party composition. I try to be as flexible as possible in case changes need to be made.

He is now ready to go with your specs.

Another repeat of the submissions for the perusal of the people.

Greetings.

Had 2 WotR strand in the past, as a player, so hopefully 3rd's a charm.
I'd like to submit a Demon-spawn tiefling bard (Argent Voice archetype)
She aspires to grow into a singer with the vocals rivaling a symphonic metal diva. She's unhappy with the stereo typing of demon-blooded, and becoming a famed singer would prove people wrong.

Items are still to be sorted. Background will come tonight.

Darkvision: Tieflings can see perfectly in the dark for up to 60 feet.
Prehensile Tail: Many tieflings have tails, but some have long, flexible tails that can be used to carry items. While they cannot wield weapons with their tails, they can use them to retrieve small, stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action. This racial trait replaces fiendish sorcery.

Question for the GM,
No big if not, but would it be possible for Demon-spawn's bonus on disable device to be replaced with intimidate? Demon-spawn are described as terrifying in their category.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Hmm. I'm a little reluctant to allow it... but I'll say that you can swap the Disable Device and Perception bonuses for one of the other tiefling variants' skill bonuses that include Intimidate.

Hmm, I have many ideas. I'll dot this for now and try to decide who to submit.

Much obliged, GM.

I will pick the Oni's Disguise & Intimidate combo. Goes well for a bard.

Background: Garros is a child of adventurers, both half-elves who grew discontent with the simple fishing and harvesting life of Erages. Life in Kyonin was pretty mellow for his grandparents and consequently, for his parents. They met one another in the Erages Academy, falling in love with each other, as well as the life of a traveling adventurer. Danger and excitement were in little supply in Kyonin, unless one wanted to go deep in the Tanglebriar and mess with the demonic presence of Treerazer, but that seemed just a little too dangerous for the young couple. Instead, they headed north, joining up with the Mendevian Crusade against the Worldwound.

Once there, they found the truth of adventuring life to be both more exhilarating and boring than they thought, finally settling down to provide information, goods, and entertainment for the other crusaders in the area. Their small cafe/pub grew in popularity in Kenabres, where Garros was born. Having lived around adventurers and crusaders his entire life, Garros was basically destined to be one himself. Strapping his blade to his side, armed with his songs and magic, Garros kissed his family goodbye and set out to find his own way in the world. Starting in Kenabres, near the crusaders seems like a good place to start, so here he is.

Description: Garros is a well-groomed half-elf of about 25. He wears his brown hair pulled straight back and either pinned up under a cap or tied into a ponytail with simple leather and glass bead hair ties. In the cold north, he wears a fur-lined leather jacket with gloves and a hooded cloak trimmed in more fur. He wears simple and functional weapons, a bow across his back with a rapier and dagger at his belt, while his pack is stowed efficiently and securely.

Appearance:

Meraati is a slightly athletic tiefling. She has black hair to her shoulders, with horns arching low backwards, ending curling back underneath her ears.
She has amber colored eyes, which contrast with a light lavender skin. Oddly enough, her eyes faintly glow a reddish version of amber, in the dark.
She wears a comfortable travel outfit, underneath a burgondy colored studded leather vest. She has a Rose tattoo on her right arm, as token of beauty that should be handled with care.

Background:

"You're asking me where i come from?", the violin playing tiefling responds. She shifts her pose in her chair. "Then let me share with you what i know."
Meraati was born in 4688, an only child from the union of two human parents, whom she had known but a few years in her childhood, prior to aftermath purges by the 3rd Crusade's inquisition.
Her father, Brandon Holmes, was a young physician for the 3rd crusade, who fell in love with a young woman corporal who was in his care for some time, by the name of Alice Venicci, who was one of a longer family line of crusaders.
Recovered, but still too injured to fight the front lines, Alice worked alongside Brandon for the crusade's medical effort, and they eventually had Meraati. Much to their, and fellow crusaders', surprise, and an even greater disgust of the more fanatical elements within the 3rd Crusade's factions, their child was a demon-spawn tiefling.
Her great grandmother used to be a lieutenant during the earlier crusades, who got captured by a strong demon. While she later gave birth to a human, there was that uncertainty, if the demon were not the father.
Halfway between the 3rd and 4th crusade, purges were in full swing, and sadly Miraati's family was no exception. Her parents were deemed tainted, and she a monster to be killed off. Only through timely intervention of an elf bard, one Leanna deMontfort, did the little Meraati escape. 'Aunty Leanna' was part of a traveling musical troop acting as moral support, who took Meraati in. A close kept secret of Leanna, she used to be an avid admirer of the silver Raven Jackdaw, and traveled a lot of places they had too. Not having joined them, but she had studied them often by prolonged observation and occasional conversation about it. When their leader Jackdaw was arrested, Leanna knew she'd best make herself scarce, along with her the way of song she had studied. It would be best for the world, should their methods not be lost, and perhaps a seed planted here and there could help. A seed, such as a child who loved singing and detested demons.

Growing up wasn't easy, while she got a proper and warm upbringing from the group and 'aunty Leanna', demonic features led to plenty of stereotyping abuse from other youths. She pulled through, though, and aimed pretty high for a goal to prove tieflings can be equally graceful and famous as 'normal folk'. She would become a famous symphonic singer, able to inspire respect and courage from -and into-, the masses.
At current time, she finds herself at Kenabras with her troupe, excluding her aunty, who moved on on her own. Thankfully, the fourth crusade had mostly put a stop to persecution, and she'd developed enough a way with words to match negative attitude from people, should it even come to that.

Personality:

She is especially wary and resentful, towards zealots and inquisitors, having lost her parents to the purges of those people between the 3rd and 4th crusade.
Vocal and social abuse from other crusader children and families, in relation to her heritage, have left her with a defensive and sometimes blunt attitude towards such people.
If no negativity is aimed towards her or friends of hers, she's a friendly and optimistic person. While not always following rules, she displays great loyalty to her friends and adoptive family.
She dreams of becoming a famed singer, one day standing in a grand theater as a symphonic singer, blending her love for music with a statement that demon-spawn tiefling are not the brutish abominations to be put down.
Still, something that's been bugging her forever, is not knowing what, or which, demon was responsible for the misery and hardships her demonic heritage brought her.

Inspired voice:

Simone Simons of Epica.

GM, is the character sheet to your preferences, or does it need some adjustments.

psionichamster:
So, if Tanglebriar was too dangerous, why did they go to the Worldwound? It's not notably safer. I don't object to the thought, but it might be best to note that they were mistaken in their assumptions.

Meraati:
Okay, so here's the thing about the Argent Voices - they're strongly associated with Kintargo and the Silver Ravens there. I'd ask that you mention someone who taught her the basics of the Song of Silver who was from Kintargo and possibly was a Silver Raven themselves - this would have to be two or three generations earlier than Meraati's birth.

Looking good, everyone. Things are closing in.

GM:

I've adjusted the background. Meraati's teacher was an elf (those stick around for centuries) who admired the Ravens and Jackdaw in particular. One of those gifted with learning through prolonged careful observation and conversation.

(I guess kind of like a gifted groupie? Minus the aspect of wanting relations with them)

The wiki mentions the Second Silver Ravens rediscovered the original group's legacy, but it is unspecified where and how.

Is this plausible for you?

Neat. I can see Meraati and Xan getting along. The caydenite also has some strong feelings about Iomedae and her followers in general.

Sczarni

@GM:
Updated background to show his parents were a bit foolhardy in their decisions.

Meraati:
Sure, why not? Elves tend to stick around for longer. That said, the second Silver Ravens are yet to arise in this campaign's time - they're over in Hell's Rebels about two years from Wrath of the Righteous.

Gotcha, psionichamster.

GM:

True, with the timeline.

Hence her teacher had traveled on, undisclosed number of years ago.
Able to present the legacy to the heroes there?

Of course, basics first, the specifics of the archtype would be both practice and studied from literature/copied diary chapters that Leanna left her.
But she's dedicated to her goal, she'd study and practice till tired, if need be. Bards were also self taught class, i recall from categories?

That's best a puzzle i can think of, with the open ended info we can find.

Xan looks like a funny sort.

Grand Lodge

Mr. GM, I haven't created a profile yet, do you want me to (or do I need to)?

ALso, is there anything else you want me to do for my character application?

Trscroggs, you don't need to make a profile - you can, if you'd like, but you don't have to, and I think you're good.

Liberty's Edge

I'm going to drop. Can't seem to reconcile all the elements I want into something cohesive that'll still fit the campaign. Feels like I have an interesting character coming along...but not for this particular setting. Besides, that list is already absurdly long. May the RNG gods favor ye who are selected.

Alright, thanks for your initial interest, Daynen.

Good luck folks! Not as much luck as me but good luck!

Doritos and Mt Dew? That used to be our tabletop GM offering.
:D
Seriously, good luck everyone! Such a good batch of characters...

Good luck everyone, I've read many a good submission and interesting background.

If I'm not chosen, I might just lurk around seeing the story unfold.

Sovereign Court

I'll have to drop, too. I was super excited and ready but now that I'm ready to sit down and write, everything I thought up refuses to translate into words.

Good luck to everyone looking to participate, though!

Man, I hate that feeling. Sorry to hear it, Knight of Rust. Thanks for your interest, though.

And this is why the blasphemy that is the Worldwound must be cleansed from Golarion!
