It is 4713 by Absalom Reckoning, and it has been one hundred and seven years since the Worldwound opened and destroyed Sarkoris. The demons have been relatively quiet for the past six years, when the Fourth Mendevian Crusade ended, but the people of Kenabraes remain wary at the insistence of one Hulrun Shappok, an inquisitor of Iomedae.
However, today is Armasse, once a celebration of the dead god Aroden, now embraced by Iomedae’s faithful, of whom there are many in Kenabres. Though it focuses on training the people to fight, Armasse remains a festival, and the city is filled already with festive cheer.
Unfortunately, the demons of the Worldwound do not remain silent forever, and already they plan to strike at the Mendevin forces and ultimately consume Golarion. The world needs more than heroes - it needs legends. Fortunately, there may yet be those able to ascend to such heights.
Greetings, all! It’s me again, hoping that I’ll be able to pick up a whole new AP for you all to enjoy. This time, as the thread implies, it’ll be Wrath of the Righteous - in part because I’ve always wanted to play it, and can’t seem to find someone willing to run it, but also in anticipation of the video game’s forthcoming release.
Like my past two recruitments, I’m looking for 5-6 players who are able to post 1/day on weekdays, and at least once during the weekends.
Attributes: 25-point buy. You’re going to be mythic heroes. Stat like it!
Races/Ancestries (I like the 2e term, myself): Core peoples are welcome, of course. Tieflings and Aasimar are both very much thematic in this AP. I’m willing to consider other Uncommon and Rare on a case-by-case basis.
Alignment: Good alignments are strongly favored. Those whose characters are neutral should ideally intend for them to grow into good alignment as the game goes on. I may - may - consider evil characters who want to change their ways. I do not guarantee this, and those who want to create them should be ready to switch them to neutral at my request.
Classes: Paizo classes, no 3PP, and Summoners are restricted to unchained only. Gunslingers are disfavored, because then I have to figure out how to put guns into a gun-free AP if I take one. Rogues, monks, and barbarians can be either chained or unchained. Paladins and clerics of good deities are especially thematic.
Money: Max gold for first level.
Hit Points: Max for first level, half plus one for each level following.
Traits: Two traits, one of which must be from the campaign traits for the AP. Note that each of the campaign traits has an associated mythic path.
Skills: I will, as before, be using the background skill variant rule from Unchained. I like that it allows for more flavorful characters.
Formatting for character sheets: Please ensure that your stats are easily available to me. If I cannot find something, I’ll let you know, but if I do, I’d like you to change it so that I can more easily find it - that is, don’t just point it out to me.
Backstories: Okay, I admit it, I’m a sucker for longer and more detailed backstories. That said, I cannot afford to read a dozen-odd novels in detail for your submissions. If you want, you can write a longer, more detailed backstory, so long as you give me a summary that’s at most ten paragraphs long.
As implied by my statements with regards to traits, Mythic Rules will be in effect. I’m going into these mostly blind, but I don’t want to adjust the encounters to non-mythic standards, because I fear I’ll mess it up even more than I otherwise will.
Redemption, as described in both the Player’s Guide and Champions of Purity, may or may not be in effect. I don’t always like systems to define how characters change, but given the emphasis on redemption in the AP, I am firmly considering it.
Level ups will be done by milestone (in a similar way to mythic tiers, I guess). Tracking XP is a chore, and combat is less quick and easy in PbP.
Woof. Alright, to quote myself from last year:
I will expect at least one post a day from my players, and if ever I cannot keep up with that, I will adjust my expectations for the players accordingly - I cannot ask you to post more often than myself, after all! I’m in GMT-5 as a timezone, so I will normally post around midday in that timezone.
Also, I am not as terribly familiar with the rules minutiae as many players here on the message boards. I would appreciate any help people would like to offer. Please don’t take advantage of my lack of knowledge - I’m trusting you guys not to do so!
To be as transparent as I can, I have sometimes burned out whilst running a game. That may happen whilst I am running this one. If such a thing happens, I will let the players know, and try to help them look for another GM to replace me, if I am able.
If this happens - which I suspect it will - I will be running a total of three games. I have been posting quite a lot in my other two games, and taking on a third will reduce my speed in all three - but I stand by my commitment to one post a day, or to adjust my requests to what I can manage.
I’m feeling much better than I was six months ago, when I posted about burning out, especially since I haven’t felt any of it in my other two games. This means I’m more willing to take this burden on. That being said, I’m currently at mostly loose ends thanks to personal circumstances - I expect this will change in the future, before the game comes to a conclusion. So, uh, my situation may change.
Recruitment will close at noon GMT-5, on Tuesday, June 29th. I may be willing to push it back a few hours if there are some people very close to submitting.
Questions are, of course, welcome.
Archae |
I'll jump in, with... something idk what yet. I took a little break from forum gaming but things have calmed down now for me anyway. That said my favorite class is Oracle so I'll probably find something with that.
Also, I can't wait for the Video game either. Kingmaker was well done after the updates.
Wyniess Morgethai |
I have this character (Ranger: Tanglebriar Demonslayer / Infiltrator) mostly made for an earlier recruitment but didn't submit her in the end. I got stuck on the backstory. I'll need to adjust up to a 25 point buy and drop her level from 3 down to 1. The other recruitment wasn't using mythic or the campaign traits, so I'll need to switch a trait. I'll be choosing either Chance Encounter for Trickster or Exposed to Awfulness for Guardian.
Wyneiess has come up from Kyonin on a sabbatical from holding the line on the edge of the Tanglebriar. Time to broaden her skill set.
Worldwound GM |
I am going to be working on a Human Ravener Hunter Inquisitor of Gorum. I am thinking of being a Kellid native to the area and taking the "Touched by Divinity" trait.
I'll work on getting stats and a character up and running in a bit!
Gorum, huh... interesting. I'll have to see what comes of it!
I'm not looking at/commenting on submissions quite yet, because it still feels a bit early to do so. I'll probably start once a few more arrive.
TarkXT |
TarkXT wrote:Dotting. Looking to get back into this enthusiastically. Will come up with something appropriate relatively soon.Tark? Thought you shifted to a different dimension, you had been gone so long.
Its a long story involving the death of passion and antidepressants. But thats a story for another time.
I was thinking a numerian bloodrager but given the number of martials im already seeing im leaning more towards bard or some flavor of magus archery.
Merixia |
WRATH OF THE RIGHTEOUS WOOOOO! Let's slay some demons!
Okay, now that that's out of my system, I'm going to rework Merixia the tiefling cleric of Ragathiel here for first level and the Touched by Divinity campaign trait. Her backstory and personality will be more or less the same as in the character profile, just 'newly arrived in Kenabres' rather than 'veteran of the Crusade'. (The previous, now dead, game started at third level.)
I know that some people have reservations about Ragathiel, given that there is a type of player who uses his worship as an excuse to kill ALL the things. Merixia venerates him more as the ur-example of what a tiefling can accomplish. If Ragathiel can be born half archdevil and ascend to become an empyreal lord, she too can overcome her heritage! So she's less about the vengeance and more about channeling her tiefling anger issues into something constructive.
As for posting, I can almost always post at least 1x/day unless I'm sick or (rarely) traveling. Weekends are the same. I will always let you know if I can't post for whatever reason.
Worldwound GM |
Lots of good submissions so far. I'll give my reflections on them tomorrow - tonight my brain is going a bit weary already. xD

This is appreciated - just so potential players know, I do really appreciate when people let me know if they're going to go offline for a time. It makes it easier to know whether to post or not, etc.
Merixia |
Okay, I've adjusted Merixia's stats and gear down to first level and gave her the Touched by Divinity campaign trait. Here's the fluff for ease of access:
That was when the small family's life changed forever. The galley was taken by pirates- who turned out not to be true pirates at all, but the Gray Corsairs of Andoran! The Corsairs (the seafaring branch of the Eagle Knights) sailed the galley back to Almas under a prize crew and helped the freed slaves get the proper paperwork to become citizens of Andoran. Halias and Lenore, who previously lacked a family name, took the name Pentarian after the Gray Corsair who freed them from their chains. Lenore found work as a midwife, having delivered many slave babies, and Halias decided to join the Gray Corsairs. He joined the church of Iomedae first, figuring that that would make him more likely to be accepted, and a deity who upheld order in a kinder way than Asmodeus appealed to him.
The Church of the Inheritor didn't appeal to young Merixia, though. What could she possibly know about a tiefling slave's struggles? About how hard it was to keep a rein on her darker impulses, or how Merixia and her father had to work three times as hard as a human for half the recognition? Very few of the other children would have anything to do with a girl who looked like a devil. So she took to exploring the city in her free time and eventually found her way to the small chapel of Ragathiel on the Avenue of the Gods. Much to her surprise, the priest there was a half-orc! One of a race almost as hated as tieflings, yet he had a position of power and respect. How had he done it? Father Darian took the angry, confused young tiefling under his wing, recognizing a kindred spirit.
As the priest told Merixia the tale of Ragathiel, of how he had overcome his infernal ancestry and the prejudice against him to do countless heroic deeds and join the ranks of the angels, Merixia knew that this was what she had been looking for. Here was a god (well, empyreal lord, but whatever) who she could actually relate to! Ragathiel was angry too, he also struggled with the darkness in his blood, but he didn't try to pretend those feelings didn't exist. He made his wrath into a tool to serve him, turning it against the forces of evil. It was then that Merixia knew she wanted to grow up to fight in his name.
At first, both Father Darian and Merixia simply thought she would grow up to be a warrior, perhaps joining the Eagle Knights like her father, or becoming the sort of adventurer who took missions for good-aligned churches. But then she started dreaming of the General of Vengeance. Father Darian discussed this with her parents, and with their blessing decided to train her as a cleric. Not one of the clerics who sits in a temple healing people, though. The clerics of Ragathiel take the fight to the forces of evil, fighting side by side with paladins and other warriors. So it wasn't a surprise that once Merixia finished her training, she declared that she would go north to join the Mendevian Crusade. They approached the church of Iomedae for financial help (transport to Mendev isn't free, and Ragathiel doesn't have many worshipers to ask for donations) and they were delighted to have someone who was both skilled and trustworthy want to join the fight. By this stage in the Crusade, such recruits are hard to come by. The priests of Iomedae paid for Merixia's passage to Kenabres, as well as some extra gear that would help her survive the Worldwound. The young cleric has just arrived in the crusaders' city, eager to join the fight and prove her worth to those who would doubt her.
Most days she wears her scale mail over a sturdy red woolen shirt, dark brown trousers, and brown knee length riding boots. A silver medallion depicting a sword crossed with a wing is always prominently displayed on her chest. Her buckler is painted with the same symbol. Merixia carries a bastard sword and light crossbow on her back, with a quiver of bolts and a dagger at her waist. A bandolier with its pouches stuffed full of who knows what crosses her chest.

omg yes dotting. WOOOOO.
I noticed you made a statement about evil, I did have a thought (unlikely to pursue, but maybe) what about a LE(or LN if needed) hellknight combating the demon filth?
I have a lot of ideas honestly, one being the above, the other an assassin sort(maybe even a boltace gunslinger)
And of course, a paladin. (like sacred shield)
Will think for a bit.
rorek55 |
fair enough, I always like to ask, as the stance on them varies greatly, and I know how important it is that the GM has character types/themes that fit with what there general idea is for the game. I'll probably submit a gunslinger of sorts. Bolt-ace archetype.
Eventually I might multiclass out, but that wouldn't be until level 5 at minimum so isn't particularly a concern. Are you open to fractional BaB multiclassing? (general idea is, 10HD+ gets +1bab per level, d8s get .75, and d6 get .5. So a rogue1/inquisitor1 would have 1.5 BaB, for a +1 bab at 2)

Hi! Long time lurker, second time poster! Recent global events shut down the in person group I had been playing with, and I've been getting the itch to play some D&D again. If you don't mind a PbP newbie, I'd be super interested in this adventure path! I've been playing pathfinder in person for about 10 years now :) Very excited for the new video game as well. I'll get a character concept up and running ASAP! I have a fondness for martials, but my favorite class of all time is bard!
Ariarh Kane |
I, too, have a soft spot for bards, @Kazmanaught, and I'm sincerely not trying to step on your player toes (the more bards the merrier!). Since we have a number of cleric ideas already floating around on the recruitment thread (another class I like to play), I've been working on an Azata-Blooded (Musetouched) Bard (Argent Voice). Still tweaking the crunch and fluff. Will post the character "stuff" as soon as I finish. :)

After some thought into the AP and its themes, I actually began hatching an idea for a farm girl turned soldier turned semi-devout follower. I've never played the AP, but I hope this can work.
Basically, she would start as a new, fresh faced soldier, just wanting to do her part now that she is able after her near death experience as a child where she lost her close friend. She would begin to question the deities, with a little bit of an "I'll do it myself" mentality but then slowly grow to understand and find faith in Iomdeade and Sarenrea, both as an inspiration, and as an anchor of stability and aid to look to. I really look forward to that process.
The idea mechanics wise would be-
Fighter 5
Heritor Knight 6 or 10
Cleric 1
Inheritior Crusader 3
Cleric X
OR, a simpler, route would be fighter-> paladin->Inheritor crusader, but I'm not sure as of yet.
I would also enjoy the idea that her grandfather or perhaps uncle is a well known figure in the crusades if possible.
I'll have the backstory written up hopefully within 2-5 days depending on how in depth I decide to go.

I am looking to make an aasimar, archon-blooded, Speaker for the Past Shaman with the life spirit. So a bit of a healer.
"Divinity touches down on Golarion from time to time. In some cases, the divine have a wish to procreate. Sometimes they find someone somewhere that piques their love interest. Then sometimes they wish to pass on to the world a bit of their essence through a hero. I am not permitted to say what happened between Nicolette's mother and I. I can say, when my little girl was born, she was delivered to me, and I, her father, found I was incapable of saying who the mother was...is. This is not unexpected given her...well, on that aspect of her I cannot even say. All I can say, even now, is that Nicolette is destined for great and mighty things."
"I was a human. My parents were humans. My parent's parents were humans, but Nicolette...well...she was born more. An aasimar. Not the fluffy, furry, winged kind, but something like a light. Seen with naked eyes and even now I can see the radiant beauty of her countenance. In my great-great grandfather's day, my family set to fight the worldwound. Now I task my daughter with the same purpose. She will finish what we started, or meet her glorious...end?"
I've never played in a mythic campaign, or this AP, so I'll be giving this a shot. Hopefully, it works out! I can post every day or more (dependent on how busy I am).

Regarding the craft skill (I'm not asking about feats), would you permit some reasonable crafting before game-start for the crafted cost? I have some cheaper, non-masterwork equipment that falls under the "various" category that could be handcrafted already on game-start realistically. If not, I'm fine spending full money on them.
Worldwound GM |
Wow, lie your head down and get bombarded with ten posts overnight! Alright, seeing what I can do...
Starting from the top: Kevin Hurly & Heinrick Stonewright: Aside from having startlingly common names, I say that you're looking alright! I have some internal reservations about LN followers of Iomedae, but that's mostly an incoherent muttering from past experience.
Though I do concede that I have some reservations about Ragathiel, if that's the angle you're going for, I think I'd be fine with it.

New PbPers are quite welcome! Glad to see you joining us, friend!

Interesting... I'd like to see why they're tapping into the Song of Silver, but I'm more than willing to discuss it!

I don't see why this wouldn't work overmuch. I might have to adjust a few things based on the mythic path you settled on, but overall, I think it would work. With regards to the fractional multiclassing, I'm a bit reluctant - what would it add/change that you view as favorable?
Quick clarification needed. Is the max gold for the level or for the class? i.e. 1000 or 240 gold in my case?
For the class, I'm afraid. So 240 gold.

Hm... I'm a bit reluctant to do this, if only 'cause I don't want to see a disproportionate number of alchemical doohickies and acid flasks, etc. So I'm going to go with "no" on that, I'm afraid.

I just realized I didn't say this in the subsystems spoiler in the OP:
I will be using the rules for weather from Ultimate Wilderness and the Worldwound, unless there is mass dismay/unnecessary difficulties.
I've also put together the campaign tab, and players are encouraged to look at the weather during late summer in Kenabres - which is to say, heckin' cold for the equivalent of late August (in the northern hemisphere). You may want to invest in some cold weather clothes.
EDIT: Curses, I keep doing this! Posting right after someone else, and missing theirs.
Are you ok with variant multiclass?
The idea I'm toying around with is a halfling shadow oracle with the deafness curse and VMC rogue.
Hm. I think I'd allow for a VMC, sure. I'll have to read up on the mechanics, but so long as the character is interesting, it wouldn't be a negative in my selection process.
Elliot Stormbane |
Dotting for great interest! I was in a WOTR campaign with Merixia that had just started when our GM suddenly disappeared (I hope he's all right since he'd posted about having flu/covid-like symptoms right before this).
My character from that campaign, Elliot, was originally an azata-aasimar ardent voice bard. I see there's already a few bard submissions including the exact same race/class setup, but what can I say - I love the bard class and might just fight you all for it! ;) Though I might instead make him an inquisitor, with the large expanded allowance of classes present. That also fits the type of support crusader spymaster character I was going for.
For bard, with mythic rules in effect he will probably go Marshall and either archmage or champion as a dual-path. If going inquisitor, I'm not sure yet.
I'll do another post whem I'm done editing his stat sheet.
Edit: One question; I am considering trying out a reach bard. What would your ruling be on the Flagbearer feat? Could a flag be hung on a type of polearm and still function for the feat's purposes?
rorek55 |
@GM, Fractional bonuses-
For me, at least in regards to my new plan, it likely doesn't help. It was honestly a suggestion more for others than myself, and is simply a system I have found good use of. The basic idea would be it makes multiclassing more appealing, in that, a rogue at level 3 could branch into another d8 class without losing that BaB. Normally, a level 5 character that took, for whatever reason, a level in 5 D8 HD classes would have a BaB of +0, with this system they would have a BaB of +3, the equivalent of any full class d8 character.
in other words, it locks BaB to character level and class level in a sense.
I'll also send you a PM a few things character wise (both fluff and mechanic based) when I have the time to dedicate to it.
