So, in addition to introducing several new ancestries and versatile heritages as well as providing options for already-existing ones, the Lost Omens Ancestry Guide also gave us several new weapons associated with the ancestries detailed in the book (as well as some that have yet to be published).
So, any of these new weapons inspire any ideas in people? Here are some ideas I had to kick things off:
- A Kobold Investigator who uses Fangwire. I know the weapon description describes the weapon as being a garrote wire, but I can't help but imagining a smart little dragon-thing who busts out a shiny wire all around him like he was Walter Dornez from Hellsing.
- A Geniekin Dragon-Instinct Barbarian who uses a Wish Blade two-handed.(Probably ifrit & fire dragon, since fire is awesome.) Dragon Barbarians are already channeling elemental energy whenever they rage, so this feels like some good synergy. Maybe see if your GM will let you pick one of the primal dragons to be your draconic forebear.
- Suli Ranger wielding a pair of Wish Knives. Use elemental assault to set up a flurry of elemental strikes!

Still thinking and reading my PDF. Of note to me is the Gill Hook from the web supplement which has the grapple trait, but also stacks up as a d10 reach weapon. So its good enough to be the main weapon for a Barbarian....
One of very few grapple weapons.
The Gill Hook jumped out at me immediately because I've been working on a Staff Acrobat, which despite the name, can use any polearm or spear. So you'd effectively have Grapple/Trip/Shove all on a d10 reach weapon. Makes for a very enticing control build.

And Martial (or possibly even simple for a Gillman!). I wonder why it isn't Advanced; it seems fairly powerful for a martial weapon. Maybe not too far out of line, 1d10 reach weapons aren't that unusual for a martial weapon, but the grapple trait is interesting.
d10 + reach + a maneuver trait seems standard. Boarding pike is reach/shove, Guisarme is reach/trip. Ranseur is reach/disarm

Speaking of odd traits, anyone else puzzled by the Thunder Sling? Putting agile on a reload 1 weapon seems a little counterintuitive, at least to me.
Blowgun has the same set up, but yeah its a bit questionable.
I'm also a little annoyed that Taw Launcher is a bow. They really need to spin crossbows off into their own weapon group if classes like the Gunslinger and feats like Crossbow Ace are going to treat them as if they're separate.

My hope is that when we get more reload+thing feats later on it will be easier to do two attacks a round, and then Agile will come into its own. As it is I don't quite get the weapon, myself.

So the Hand Adze has both forceful and agile which is a very strong combination. Monks could even flurry with it through the ancestral weaponry feat or, for greater investment, Flurry Ranger MCD into monk and at level 10 flurry of blows with a forceful weapon that only has a -2 MAP. It also has sweep and thrown 10' for some extra flexibility as well.

Sprites Spark is sort of a new weapon. A ranged unarmed attack. That is going to sit in a few odd rules corners.

PossibleCabbage wrote:The gill hook just stands out because they have been very stingy handing out the grapple trait, unlike trip, shove, and disarm.Exactly. And the weapons it is on are both finesse (and so going against the grain as far as attributes) and have much smaller damage die.
Finesse and Grapple is a good combo for Investigators, though. They can use Int for both attacks and grapples with such weapons.

No odder than the corner the leshy seed pod or the goblin's flaming loogy projectile thing are. Those are both unarmed ranged attacks as well.

Sprite's Spark is nearly identical to Leshy Seedpod which hasn't caused any problems. It's just that seedpod gets the on-crit effect and Sprite's Spark gets more useful damage types.

There's also Kitsune Foxfire as well.

Devise a Stratagem only works, "for the first Strike you make against the creature this round". Grapple has the Attack trait but it is an Athletics check not a Strike.

The Athletic Strategist class feat fixes that.
