So.. what now?

With Alien Archive 2 well underway I am kind of struck by the lack of any commentary or news in regard to what else we have to look forward to for Starfinder. While I know the Beginner's Box is coming and we know what the future holds for the next couple of Adventure Paths beyond this there has been an unsettling amount of silence in regard to anything else from the rule book line.

While my wallet will appreciate some downtime, I guess I was hopping to hear some sort of road map or some indication of what the release plan is for next year.

Personally I hope its more than a Beginner's Box and Alien Archive 3. While the archives are very nice there is plenty of ground im chomping at the bit to see explored in terms of setting, factions and rules expansions.

Anyone heard any whispers of what comes next and if not what is everyone hoping to see as the next rule book release for Starfinder?

Personally I'm hoping for an ultimate starships, a near space book detailing systems like the veskarium, and some sort of planar book explaining how the planes are using technology and adapting to the gap. Hopefully each with PC options. like themes and races.

No idea what's after beginner box though.

I for one am hoping for hardback books on the Veskarum and Azlanti empires, much akin to the Pact Worlds book.

If these forums are any indication, there will also likely be rioting in the streets of we don't get a starships and space battles book at some point. At the moment, the starship combat rules are the weakest in the game.

I would very much love to see both of these factions explored a lot more. They would be top of my list as well though I would add the Swarm to that list. I also agree that it would probably do the game a lot more service though to tighten up and explore the starship rules first. Its a source of a lot of contention among groups it seems. My personal group has no issues but we tend to roll with things as is than a lot of groups I guess and I tend to take a few cinematic liberties with the rules to keep things exciting.

Obviously I'd love a pactworlds size book on each. However, I think I'd be happy with one book on all three. 'Outside the Pact' or something. Hopefully a book larger than the pact worlds for all that in one of course.

Dunno but we do know that the Blancmange has Tennis Proficiency, a bite attack and a transform into Scotsman beam

I'm really hoping for a book focused on magic, spells, and how different both are in a world with a lot of tech. There have been a few drips and drabs across the other books so far, but in comparison to how many hundreds of technological items have come out, its been very disappointing.

I'm especially keen to see how new magic might be able to influence, enhance or interact with tech in odd ways. Like say:

Wall of Energy Reshaping
An insubstantial technomantic field, X ft long and Y ft tall. When energy attacks pass through it, they're converted to an energy type of your choice.

Or

Curse Ammunition
The ammunition or battery loaded into target weapon becomes cursed for X rounds. Cursed ammunition can't be fired and cursed batteries don't deliver a charge. The weapon can be reloaded normally.

---

TBH though, Ultimate Starships sounds like a fantastic book as well.

Starfinder Shipyard, maybe with room for more computer stuff.

A new class.

Cyberpunk AP entirely on Akiton.

I always think more of Mad Max when I think of Akiton but it definitely has Cyberpunk overtones as well. I've always thought that location could be a source for an entire campaign and then some.

The artwork in both the CRB and PW is blade runner meets total recall (1990 version).

Makes sense, since Akiton is Mars.

In the "civilized" areas yes but then it goes on to describe vast stretches of wasteland between these pockets of civilization with bandits and what not which is where the Mad Max fun comes into play. Its definitely one of the more inspiring areas for me. I just need to find a reason for my PCs to go there at some point.

well if you ask me i want holly trinity to be complete so my first pick would be the advantage class guide for starfinder as soon as possible. After that small bite size chunks to for both veskarium and azlanti star empire. in my option space ships can be wait few more months as biggest problem i feel is we cant get solid builds in most of the classes and there is to much spaceships in the damn market to sufficently keep playing for atleast starfinder season 5 or 6 with out putting big book of ships each year and lack of regular material like classes can pay bills as every one with spark of idea trying to find how to heal in x class. what type of AP i want damn kingmaker updated in to starfinder were pcs start by managing spacestation or planet then get chance to become the faction in galactic scale decideing the fate of galaxy by intracting between various factions to keep their fragile peace.

I'm fine with a few ship frames here and there, though more varied systems would interest me.

Mostly, I want lore now.
We've had Armory for hardware, two AArchives, which admittedly give background on individual races.
But I'd love to learn more about the notable members of the Pact, beyond the big Worlds (Aspis, the various protectirates, whatever else there is) and the other major local players (like the Hellknights, for one).

And first and foremost, what lays beyond the system.
The Veskarium, the Empire, the others we vaguely know of ...

A "Big Six" book would be pretty awesome. All six of the main villainous factions in the CRB written up and detailed. I'm also in agreement that something detailing a lot of what is going on in Near Space would be good.

Though some players prefer a lighter focus on magic, I would really like to hear more about the role of magic in a world where technology approaches it's utility.

Thank you for your presence and answers here, Owen! :-)

I hope we get some kind of announcement soon (this year) about future starfinder products (SoS & Dawn of Flame dice, Beginner Box, prepainted & unpainted minis, success of the first three-part AP, announcement of the next hardcover theme...), as no news are alwas bad news.

I would also like to suggest to make some of the half-page maps inside the AP volumes into flip-mats (like Docking Bay 94 & the Acreon from AP #1 - they would fit on a 30x24 mat with minimal cut-off) or full-page maps (like the Outpost Zed interior or Prison facility from AP #8 designed so they can fit on a 39x27 "bigger flip-mat"), as it takes considerably longer to draw a good sci-fi map than a fantasy one in my experience and i would rather buy them from Paizo than spend 1 hour to draw them only to have to erase them again.

I'd love a Near Space book. The Veskarium, of course. But also stuff about the colonies and protectorates of the Pact Worlds (and their competitors) outside that particular solar system.

I'd also like another crunchy book, with a lot more feats, spells and augmentations. There's quite a few ways now to put more than one augmentation in a single body slot, but there's really not that many augmentations to compete for those slots.

I think introducing ritual magic (as seen in Occult Adventures) would also be an interesting addition, and that could also be a way of introducing a mystical role in starship combat. (The guy frantically chanting spells to keep together the ship's wards, or supercharging the runes on the main guns.)

The Exchange

I already want more PC races...I guess i am being greedy. Now that we have 2 plane touched races how about more? Elemental plane pcs please, more oni, a book on all outsiders so i know how things are post gap.

Untill we get them,
I still want kineticists and mediums.

I’d take an equivalent Advanced Players guide. Couple of classes to play with, some extras for existing, archetypes.

Other than that some Veskarium info would be great as others said.

I’d also settle for Ultimate Campaign, but only because I want Kingmaker IN SPACE!

Three characters in and I'm already out of character concepts I really want to try to poke at the system. (High int mystic, Envoy soldier with one really big shot per round, and a strength operative) Maybe a bowling ball stated Solarion next...

I'm really happy to see a lot of the community here in agreement! Near Space, The Vast, and Threats to the Pact would be lovely. Also focused books for Ships/vehicles, Magic, Planes, and a Players Guide with new classes.

I would love solar system maps and maps of sections of the galaxy too, but that one might just be me.

The one thing I really see missing is bio-punk, I'd like a class focused around biological manipulation that's akin to the Mechanic.

Yup. My big 3 would be Veskarum, Azlanti, and Starship options. I'd also be down for a "out there" book detailing some of the more exotic and dangerous places you can explore. In fact an Explorers Guide and random exploration rolling guide would be awesome.

I'm using stuff from Stars Without Number to fill in some of my exploration gaps.

Owen K. C. Stephens wrote:

I would love something that delves further into the setting myself from a GM perspective as well as player lines. They wouldn't need to be monthly, once every 2 months or even less would be okay. We've got 9 pages on Aballon for example (with lots of gorgeous art). Getting an extra 64 pages on planets (both in the Pact Worlds and beyond) would be awesome.

While a Veskarium supplement is definitely high on my wishlist for future books.. I also would love to see Starfinder Player Companions. It seems like at the moment the Adventure Paths are filling this niche, but with Pathfinder I absolutely loved having those small, regular volumes focused on particular themes.

Other things I'd like to see are supplements on magic, technology, and the faiths of Starfinder with character options to help craft characters around these aspects. Plus, I'd love anything that might explore Solarians more as these would likely do.

1) FAQ update
2) A book on starships and more starship options(like what about ships without life support, for the snotty undead or android crews)
3) An expansion on the computers stuff. Atm owning a computer does nothing for you
4) The Veskarium
5) The Swarm
6) General other non-pact worlds stuff

That's what I want anyway :P

In general I just want more to gorge on. I'm liking Starfinder far more than Pathfinder but find myself starved for content, despite the number of books so far

What in Golarian are you talking about?

A computer can communicate with (or hack) other devices from across the galaxy. It can remotely control nearly anything. It can make social checks on your behalf. It can provide access to information allowing you to take 20 on knowledge checks, to interface with other computers, act as a light source, record data, or provide a distraction (for yourself when killing time, or for your enemies at a crucial moment).

I'd argue computers are the most useful non-combat item in the game. Clever players will even find ways to use them effectively in combat.

Ravingdork wrote:

If you're talking about attaching range to a computer as well as the hacking kit, technically doesn't work. if you're talking about wireless hack; it's a mechanic ability and not an option for everyone else.

Ravingdork wrote:

With an abysmal cost-bonus ratio. most of the time their best use in that case is just to aid your own check.

Ravingdork wrote:

I will agree here, and it completely trashes the pre-mission knowledge checks if you can get 2 minutes to use it.

Technically the rule support is limited in the combat options there(a feat and trick attack being the main ones. It's not a thing you can buy stock standard and plug into a computer)

Clever yes.

in home games, with a GM that likes the idea; awesome. In Home games with strict GM's, or in Society play, not so much.

I'm talking about logging onto a network (such as a planetary infosphere) and then breaking into any other computer system connected to the same network from there.

For someone who might not have any social skills, that's still a bonus.

Of course a computer can interface with another computer. All it needs is either a physical connection, or a wireless, or networked connection.

I was actually referring to a comm unit, which is an upgradeable computer in its own right.

Yeah, in combat is usually covered by feats and class abilities. I was thinking more like setting a laptop on a rock and playing a music video or something to draw the attention of enemies over while you sneak by, or perhaps ambush them.

I've not had too many Society GMs shut me down on things of this nature, but I recognize that as being anecdotal.

A GM who is so strict as to keep an item from working as intended strikes me as someone who has control/confidence issues.

Pretty much, outside of control modules. Even then one provides a negigible bonus at tiny cost, the other provides a laughably inadequate bonus at extreme cost.

Supercomputer manufacturer.

The equivalent of a cray computer would be something like tier-7 and above. An ipad would be tier-2 or tier-3.

Seems fairly well represented to me, without getting into the unnecessary nitty-gritty details of the thing.

A higher item level really doesn't do anything for a PC

It increases computer security, social skill modifiers, computer durability, and allows for more countermeasures. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other things that I'm not thinking of too.

That's doing quite a bit.

I think people are just sore because it doesn't have any other mechanical representation of increased computing power; doesn't give you additional bonuses to hacking attempts for example.

I'm of the opinion that Starfinder computers are already plenty complicated. To make them even more detailed/granular would be a mistake if you ask me. I would recommend that the developers stick to a few rules clarifications where needed, and perhaps add some additional modules, upgrades, and countermeasures.

ravingdork wrote:

Its not doing anything the pcs care about (unless the party has no face and they're using the ipad on a wheeled stick)

How often are pcs getting their systems hacked? Usually they're the ones doing the hacking.

How often is a pcs computer sundered? Never.

The problem is that they're only complicated on the NPCs side. Pcs are just "roll a d20 and have a big plus"

Quote:

Something that was a straight bonus to hack might be overpowered, but a computer manufacturer that was good against fake shells or specific countermeasures definitely has some room in the design space.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I agree. Specialized computer bonuses would be fairly interesting.

I just really started to think about this. If the book release schedule holds AND this will be the next installment of Starfinder Subscription it means the game will really get new material next summer. That really, really sucks IMO. Waiting for 8 months for new material when you've gotten used to 3 books a year seems way too long. Or maybe we've just gotten used to too good release schedule :)

Although I have been wondering how there's still been no news on AP, books or anything after that.
