Volcano's Land - Recruiting 2 additional PCs due to unresponsive players

Recruitment

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Hello! I have 2 PCs that have been unresponsive for a few weeks, and I'm looking to replace them. We've been playing for about 3 months, and having a great time. This campaign is much more RP-based than combat-based.

Before you submit a character,

Be forewarned that this is a fairly detailed world.

1) See this post for initial campaign info.

2) Check out the "Campaign Info" tab on that page for more details.

Two Tables

I'm looking to replace 2 PCs total, 1 from each of my 2 tables that I am currently running.

--Home and Hearth - PCs born and raised in the capital city of Hearth are currently involved in a crime/mystery campaign dealing with drug dealers. Party includes an Ifrit Skald, an Oread Stonelord Paladin, and a Sylph Alchemist.

--A New Beginning - PCs completely new to the city of Hearth become embroiled in the Great Temple's fight against the Dark, the malignant force that destroyed Sky millennia ago. Party includes a Sylph Chosen One Paladin, an Oread Bloodrager, and a Sylph Barbarian.

What I want

1) Let me know which table you are interested in, and an initial race/class/personality concept.

2) After I give the OK, submit a full character alias.

Characters that fit into this world - names, concepts, backgrounds, etc - will be more favorably considered.

Thread will stay open about a week. The sooner I get an initial concept, the better - I may close submissions early if I think there are enough potentially good candidates.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Did the original post sound off-putting? I swear it's more fun than it is work! If you have any interest at all in a world populated by sylphs, oreads, ifrits, and undines, surrounded by Darkness, and protected by a vengeful Volcano god, please post an expression of interest and I can give you more info!

Dot, got some reading to do

Hi there! I love the setting you've put down. Im interested in the Hearth game, as a more city centered game takes my preference but if you'd rather have me in the other group i'd be more than happy to join that one instead.

Im thinking of an ifrit Rogue, a young scoundrel that grew up in the steam slums and learned to survive the streets the hard way. He's easily likeable but usually overstays his welcome or messes up by being unable to control his desires. His desires very often include other peoples gems and valuables.

I am interested in the new beginning group. Let me read up on the campaign and I will post more.

Thanks for the interest everyone! Let me know if you have any questions.

Jman72: I am thinking about creating a Male NG undine (city) Inquisitor of Volcano for the new beginning group. Is there anything I should know about divine casting? The crunch will be easy, but I could use some help on the background. I would think an inquisitor would be an easy addition considering the current storyline. He would worship the Silver-bringer aspect of Volcano, searching for discoveries that could turn the tide of the war on darkness.

Start L2? Average wealth for L2?

I am thinking about table two(new beginning) with a sylph quite possibly. Atm leaning towards sylph alchemist that is convinced science/knowledge is the new Savior against the dark. Inquisitive, intelligent, and slightly unorthodox. Believes the "loss" of their diety/guidance has finally given them a chance to search for, and find, the truth

This, or some type of rogueish/arcane ifirt for group (home and hearth). He would be more interested in himself and how to better his lot than about some fight against the dark. Basically doing things that benefit himself in some way. Usually.

Crunch is in the profile.

Sounds interesting! A rogue would fit better with the "Home and Hearth" group, definitely. Looking forward to seeing a character submission.

-Yep, level 2 is good, since that's the current level of the other PCs. Avg wealth for level 2 is fine too.

-I'll plan on checking out the stats tomorrow.

-Nothing different about divine spell casting. If I have that written in one of the campaign docs, I'll edit that out.

-As for background, here's two broad ways an undine could have found themselves becoming an Inquisitor for Volcano:

--Lived a young life on or near River, but tragedy struck (attack by darkspawn perhaps) and PC realized Volcano was the only god worth worshipping

--Grew up in Hearth, probably in the undine slums outside of town. Became inspired by Volcano one way or another (witnessed an inquisitor vanquishing evil, or maybe saw a good deed performed by a priest, or was shown mercy after a minor crime like stealing food)

Let me know which one interests you more. If it would help with your decision, let me know if you'd like more details on either storyline.

Definitely more interested in the alchemist.

I know slyphs are kinda scattered and the like, how would one go about getting the things needed to learn about alchemy, arcane and the like in this world? I figure his line of thought wouldn't be extremely popular, what with saying the gods aren't the final, or only, answer and the like (whether he is right or wrong).

Would he have been more likely to grow up in slums, or in a well off home?

The temple is pragmatic - alchemy and arcane magic are useful tools, tolerated as long as they are only tools (and not used to 'prove' the gods aren't real, or arcane magic is superior, etc) You may have run into trouble in the past if you insist on putting alchemy on even footing with divine magic. The best place to learn alchemy is in Light, one of the three major ifrit cities.

Rich sylphs are pretty rare, so it is much more likely he grew up in the slums, or maybe a more modest neighborhood if his parents were successful alchemists too.

Alright, lemme see what I can cook up.

Yeah, think alchemist mindchemist/beast morpher will work with him. On break at work Atm, will write him out tonight or tomorrow.

Thought I should poke my head in - I'm the rediculously out-skilled Paladin in the 'Home and Hearth' game. Feel free to ask questions if you have them!

here is a rough draft for his crunch, still working on the fluff and I am exhausted from work, tbh, this has been done for a bit but I had not intended to post without fluff but want ot get it out.

I assumed I could craft my own alchemical items? I will be learning crafters fortune which would result in a +15 to craft checks, assuming taking 10s thats a 25. It may need a few tweaks but here you go.

Hello. Glad this thread is getting some attention. I'm from the new beginning campaign and welcome any questions as well.

As for crafting, we will likely have time to use the skill. I believe we all have a crafting skill of some kind.

Being the Chosen One I advise you to stay close. With Volcano at my side we can't fail!

Neptulus Glaciakiuz:

Looking good! Let me know if you have any questions to help with your background.

thelizardwizard:

"Cheme" is more of a last name than a first name. Besides that, crunch looks fine. I'll be looking for the background in the next few days.

I am going to have to withdraw from consideration. Good luck all!!

So we have:

--thelizardwizard, with an alchemist submission for "A New Beginning"

and

--Crockoclock Ophone, with a rogue submission for "Home and Hearth"

I'd like full submissions (crunch and fluff) by Wednesday.

Hi guys,

Can I get an update from the two of you? Are you still interested? Do you think you'll have a background by tomorrow?

Miner! I'm sorry but I don't think I'll be having a submission for your game. I'm having a hard time getting a decent background and character down.

Just seen this, very interested, not sure if you've still got a space going? Just looking at the initial recruitment thread for details on Volcano and character creation...

Totally understand - I appreciate the update.

Yep, definitely still have a space open. The only other active submission is thelizardwizard, who is looking at an alchemist for the "New Beginning" table.

Let me know if you have any questions!

I was hoping for the home and hearth table, will give it a think tonight when I get home from work, but you should be getting something from me in the next few days

Great, that works out well then, since lizardwizard is thinking about New Beginnings.

Sorry. Some reason this stopped showing up as have new posts. Bit busy with finals week

No problem. I appreciate the update.

after a bit of deliberation, I'm having second thoughts on the alchemist. Possibly an arcanist would be better for the group.... hmmm

House rule - no casters capable of 9th level spells. Magus could be a good arcane option.

Pathfinder Adventure, Adventure Path Subscriber

Thinking maybe an undine rogue, so we get the full house on races, and the opportunity to sneak and things .... maybe working for one of the inquisitors..

Or maybe Inquisitor ...

Either way it will be one or the other ....

Interesting choices! Let me know if you have any questions while you're working on the background.

Just wondered if you would allow an unchained rogue ... from the unchained PFS book.

Pathfinder Unchained wrote:
Rogue: The original rogue has a niche thanks to her sneak attack and high number of skill ranks, but she is still somewhat underpowered. The unchained rogue can debilitate her enemies to dramatically alter her ability to hit or dodge them, gains a unique edge when using her favorite skills, and enjoys a significant boost to her rogue talents.

Link to the full details on the Paizo PRD Rukes Archive.

If allowed I'll update the rogue accordingly.

I will add background stuff tomorrow or Saturday

Sketch Background - Undine Rogue...

Born in the underbelly of Volcano, grew up learning rogue abilities
He seems touched by the gods and not succumbed to the dark side of Volcano, even been used by Inquisitors of Volcano to retrieve one or two objects.

Happy to have contacts with existing members ...

Apologies, went way for the weekend, unplanned so didn't have as much time for this as I thought ..

Hi all,

I've decided to close the recruitment. I understand that life delays happen, but with 2 PCs recently dropping out, I want to recruit players that are solid from the start.

Thanks for your submissions, hope there are no hard feelings. I may re-open recruitment after the holidays, and I'd love to see you guys again.

no hard feelings, the setting sounds really nifty but I just couldn't think up something I really liked the sound of atm. apologies.
