Description
Crafted by a halfling how was tried of dealing barely and damage to larger foes, this mace favored by men with confidence issues. The shaft of this thundering, shocking, flaming, returning +4 mace is veined in glowing filigree that pulsates when an enemy is near.
On command it deals it's bearer 1d4 of blood damage and swells to size large large for 1 minute per bleed damage dealt.
On a critical hit the mace can erupt in a shower of sticky glue that acts as a [i]glue[i] spell.

I'd say about half my favorites were selected. There are some items I didn't personally like, but don't begrudge cause they were well designed.
Which makes it at least as good an outcome as previous years.
Just wish my personal favorite item had made it...ah well.

I had only one of these on my personal list. And out of 36, I only ever saw about 6 of them. 30 were completely new to me when they were announced. I saw some of their names on the list but had no idea what they were.

This is kind of the same boat I'm in. This was my first exposure to the contest and I submitted an item at the very last minute, so I'm excited to have survived all of the culls... but... I've learned that the vast majority of other voters think very, very differently than I do. Many of the items in the top 32 are those that I consistently downvoted, and many of the items that I loved and consistently upvoted are nowhere to be found. It's interesting in the sense that for next season I will need to design an item that I don't really like but that matches the concepts that were popular. Regardless, it's a fun exercise.My personal favorite made it, my close second (Blaze in the Azimuth) was culled.
I predicted about half the list, about 10 of them don't surprise me. Some I honestly couldn't believe made it past the second or third cull, so I'm rereading them to see what I missed.
I'd say my taste was about 50/50, the 50% or so I agreed with where not all items I always voted up, but they were more frequently up than down, and a couple of them were items that grew on me the more I saw them. The bottom 50% a couple I hadn't seen since the first cull or so, and they read better than I remembered and some I still don't really care for. That said I'm very happy with how my item did (although I still hope to see it in the top 100), and have nothing but heartfelt congratulations to offer to everyone who competed but especially those moving forward.

But, if you want to make a positive shout out after the Top 32 honeymoon period, that would be received well. The biggest thing we avoid is criticism or critique that the writer didn't ask for.

All top 32+Alts are automatically open for critiquing when their item posts, right? Because I have some rules lawyering to lay on a few of them. Overall I'm happy with the writing and style/mojo of most of the items, but many of them are ones that messed up on simple rules (CL, aura, ect.).

I think these critiques are as helpful to future contestants. It probably doesn't help the finalists much as they have to keep moving forward.

So all folks are aware, because our beloved GM_solspiral is in the top 32 this year, I, his business partner and the co-owner of Flying Pincushion Games will be hosting this years The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly item critique thread. I will do my best to stand in for Solspiral, and will be approaching all critiques as if they were submissions to TFPG from freelancers, so all honesty, no mercy, but always useful.
I'm good for another year - ha ha ha ha ha, I'll start on the Fu reviews this weekend - so brace yourselves :P
