Paladin Divine Bond (Mount) Duration

Rules Questions

The text on page 63 of the Core Rulebook does not give a specific duration for each use of the Divine Bond ability. It does say, "This ability is the equivalent of a spell of a level equal to one-third the paladin's level."

If it worked like a summon spell then at Paladin level 9, the summon would last for 3 rounds? This seems really terrible. Is there an official ruling on how long the mount lasts?

Thank you

The mount is always present, its a real horsey.

That line is just for when you specifically call your mount to your side.

Say your mount is across town and you want your mount by your side, you call him and there it is.

No, the mount is permanent. It's not the silly 3.5 pokemount. The ability to call your mount is basically to have it appear, from wherever it was, right next to you. It seems to be described as an SLA. It seems it could be countered (dispel magic).

there is no duration, or rather duration is 'instantaneous' like a fireball spell.
the ability is never likened to summoning, but to CALLING.
look at the calling spells, like planar ally/binding: they have duration (instantaneous).
calling spells do not 'summon' a fake representation of some creature, which has no chance of actually being killed itself, but actually 'move' the called creature to the location you want to, and the called creature has a normal chance of being 'really killed', since it itself is present unlike the 'representation' that summons are. as mentioned, the paladin mount is a real, mortal creature (if with some special templates and high INT) and the ability is just about (instantaneously) MOVING it to where you want it, not 'creating'/summoning a temporary mount.

you're welcome
