Interesting. One of my brainstorming bestiary entries fits with this month's theme. I shall have to submit it and see if they agree. After some fine tuning, of course.

This one had so much, it required a flowchart with yes no choices to sort out.phew complicated....
This one has a great and simple idea, but absolutely no formatting or basic info, more like a pitch actually.
This one a creative snake item j'taime!
A magical suit of "RUN AWAY"!
Helicopter of scoping out and scouting
One construction equals only it's price but description has quite a shopping list of spells and materials.

Well, there was no Top 8 my year, so 16 was cool for me. I'm going for Marathon again. You Champion people freak me out.
I do wish they'd fix my alias to show my real name though.
I don't see why. We're just as sane as anyone else.

Any estimates on how many "Joke item but good rules" are going to make it into the Top 100? I've encountered four likely candidates so far.
Maybe none. There are enough good items that took their creation seriously that they wouldn't be needed. To be Superstar a joke item would have to be truly stellar.

Goes to show that I am indeed crazy that I missed this place, while of for one awkward celebration. And here I thought it would be semi-full of hate.
Okay, I know...
Do I ever not want to vote for you item vs. Item that I really, really will not vote for... Oh, well, turns out I did in fact want to vote for item 1.
With that name, item, I have to really dislike the other one to vote for you. Look, I didn't dislike the other one enough. There you go. Stop being called that, and we'll talk. Maybe. (I don't actually like what you do either, though, but it would improve you)
I'm on-and-of making up different names that I like better for items. Some of them might deserve it, but mostly I'm a bit bored.
Shield that does not so shield-ly thing vs. this pesky rod that does... something. Oh, well, I kind of like you anyway not-shield-ly shield.
Hey! New item! Shiny! Now why do you have to do something horrible with no understanding of variance of power? Oh well, I like this rod anyhow, I want to go vote of this perfectly nice rod.
On a side note all this talk about pricing is making me wish I hadn't gotten the idea for my item 2 days before deadline and written it up on deadline day AFTER my exam. I would have liked to do some semi-decent calculations. But I really didn't have time in the two hours I spent on it. Well. Hopefully my more go-with-what-feels-right price will work. I do so wish there had been something remotely similar to compare to or a spell that did something more like what I wanted to base the price on. Bah. You guys are making me paranoid after all. I promise, I'll never, ever price something based on what feels nice again. I'll do the boring calculation and feel justified about my pricing.

Guys I know you are avoiding naming the item or being specific about the powers, but many of the items you are referencing are somewhat...unique in their concepts and powers. It's becoming increasingly easy for me to identify them.
If I can identify them, then the various authors definitively can. And what they are hearing is quite dismissive if not rude. We need to vent—believe me I know—but we have to be very careful here. The authors are unable to identify their items without disqualifying themselves. So their hands are tied in trying to defend their decisions.
I have compared it in the past to someone holding your arms behind your back while someone else punches you in the stomach. Not cool. So while we have been doing a decent job so far, we do seem to be slipping towards the bad zone where posts get flagged and eliminated.
Before you post ask if this statement could apply to more than one item. If it can't don't post it. If it can you are probably OK.
Let's try and keep these threads a fun place to visit for everybody.

And another item gets the vote because the one it was paired with couldn't just give me a well-planned item at an appropriate cost, and stuck me with an unbalanced drawback at the last minute. Why must you do this?
"This car gets really good gas mileage and has great brakes and handling, can go from 0 to 60 in 6.8 seconds, and comes with complimentary satellite radio."
"Oh, and it has a 1 in 20 chance of exploding into flames every time you start the engine."

Mantra: Trust the voting process. Trust that there is enough great, superstar items that not even good, but annoying items will get close to the top 32. Trust the judges to pick the very best of the very best.
Remain sane. Over 700 votes given now. Think I'm around 600 unique items, though I haven't crosschecked my lists yet.
Time to call it a ... hmm, very early morning actually. Well, then. Merry Christmas everyone. May your voting be bright and inspiring and not too troublesome.

Top 8 - best exit point if you aren't going to win...

There was no Top 8 in 2014, so all the Top 16's are still eligible and only the Top 4 were DQ'd by association that year. Let me tell you, 2014's Top 16 have taken that as a slight and they are out in force this year. I truly think we'll be seeing repeat players again this year.

Why are there SO MANY:
1) Shields that disarm attackers
2) Items that reverse the "polarity" of your channeling or how channeling affects you
3) Sticky armors
4) Stuff that provides continual silence
Stuff like blades that cut space/time and let you teleport I expected, but these things...they're such a weird niche, but there are tons of them. I think at least 6 of the first, four of the second, five or six of the third...is there really a great need for this stuff?

Uhm...all of them? :-) I know most of them through here and The Freelance Forge. Several said they weren't entering, then it got kind of crazy once I told them I was entering. It was like a personal affront. I was just waiting until they were all done so I didn't have to go up against them. The jerks :-)

This is a serious question, because I simply don't read all the possible game setting/AP/adventures available - is there some adventure somewhere that has an extended courtly setting to it that warrants the large number of court related items I'm seeing or is it just a design area that people are exploring?

I think what happens is people look for items that are not a lot of that type trying to be different, but then multiple people see the same hole to fill it. Then you get a lot of similar items.

I seem to recall Shackled City had a big ball with all the various council members... Not sure if that counts.
I think it's a common enough trope in fantasy literature and something people probably enjoy in games. I know I'm in the midst of reading Brnadon Sanderson's "Mistborn" series and the courtly society scenes are some of my favorites, particularly the ball I just read. I think it's hard to do well in RPGs, but it does happen.
(ETA: Seriously? How am I not at dedicated yet?)
