I've been somewhat caught up in my new job :) Thanks for the edit! I love the addition of the ringing sound and definitely agree with making it a skill rank requirement rather than a class (I wanted to change that as soon as I entered it!)
And yeah, being an alternate is not easy! My map was pants and I freely admit it; no time and less enthusiasm than a proper top 32 who knew their map would be looked at would have had.

Just pointing out a mechanical error: returning does not let you make full attacks with a thrown weapon. It returns the weapon to you just before the start of your next turn.
Oh, I am well aware. I actually made an item specifically to address that.
No, that line of my critique came when I read too quickly and didn't realize it took a Standard action to throw a conjured hurlbat.
I was assuming you'd throw the main returning one, then a conjured non-returning one with your iteratives. So, if you had two attacks, it'd last 3 rounds, since you could throw the main one once and the three copies once each. If you had three attacks per round, it'd only last two rounds, so you could hit all three the first round and twice the second.
But obviously, I brainfarted and missed the standard action thing, which screws up even this minor full attack benefit.
As with anything it comes down to tactical usage :)

Now I really, really wish I'd had more time to work on my map :( I know I could have done better than this. Ah well, next time. :)
It's going to be just a bit tougher too, with some people having already voted (they can change their votes, but they might not choose to do so). On the other hand, congratulations on being the top alternate! Now the authors of all 33 items that received at least a weak keep from 2/3 judges get a shot this year.
I'm super happy to get a shot! It's awesome :) I just wish I'd had a bit more time to put into the entry, leading up to it I was changing country and starting a new job >.<

Thank you! I chose them because they'd be tricky (and thus showy) to juggle, I agree with the general need to tighten up the mechanics and will be bearing it in mind for next year. Thanks for the critique!
Description
A well balanced steel hurlbat bound in colorful ribbons that catch the eye, it creates a distinctive whistle as it spins through the air.
This +1 returning hurlbat feels most at home in the hands of a performer. The wielder can attempt a DC 15 Perform (juggle) check as a standard action and can maintain it as a move action on subsequent rounds. Activation conjures three +1 hurlbats each with a range of 30 feet and affects the wielder with a mirror image spell creating 1d4+2 illusory doubles.
The wielder can throw a conjured hurlbat as a standard action. A struck opponent takes damage normally and must make a DC 15 Will Save or be dazed for one round as the bright ribbons disorientate them. When all three conjured hurlbats are thrown or the performance ends the mirror image doubles and conjured hurlbats disappear.
This effect may be activated 3 times per day.
A bard wielding this weapon gains the martial weapon proficiency: hurlbat; and increases the save DC for any bardic performance using this weapon by +2.
Construction Requirements Craft Magic Arms and Armor, abundant ammunition, daze, mirror image, telekinesis; Cost 22,500 gp

Mummer's Slapstick - SUPERSTAR! - I'm assuming you totally mean for this to be a serious item, despite its comedic roots. As that, I totally see it. And I love it, love it, love it. ITs great. I might question a few of the mechanical effects, and I'd suggest you alter a little language to be more inclusive and add variety but its an awesome item, well written, and well thought out. First Superstar Item I have tagged.
Thanks for the critique, Lucus! It was intended to be a serious item, yes. I'd love to hear how the mechanical effects and language could be improved, if and when you have time. Thanks again!
As a quick note; as a drama teacher when I saw this item I was so excited! Good work in living up to my expectations, the item was lovely, I would definitely use it for a troop of performer types or a jester.

Thanks everyone! I must admit as soon as I posted it I began thinking I should have nixed the Bard aspect and given the free proficiency to anyone with the Perform ranks.
Glad people liked it and I'll work on my wording next time!

Hi Everyone!
I'm Allana and this is my second year of trying this contest and the first time I've made it into this thread. Yay for being an alternate! I've also just recently (last week and a half!) started a new job as an English/Drama teacher in the UK (having moved here two a bit under 2 weeks ago from Australia for the job); so you can imagine just how hectic everything is for me right now.
I've been gaming for about a decade now, quite a range of systems with my most recent one to run being Riddle of Steel while I currently play in a Pathfinder game. I have always had a soft spot for rogues and bards and other scoundrel character types, especially ones that do it with flair.
I must admit I'm a tad worried about the map round, I only have work days in which to get it done and as an alternate it may all be for naught :-/ But it's certainly fun regardless!

Some of these items really make me want to see how the games the writer plays in runs. Not in a bad "you're doing it wrong!" kind of way, just in a legitimately curious manner. I mean I'm even wondering if the different style could lend me some ideas to add to my current games.

So many items I just keep seeing again and again... I'm glad a couple of them a like but I almost feel cheated when those are paired with the few items that I refuse to ever vote for.

Been binge voting, seen a bunch of items like 8 times each - and still haven't stumbled upon mine.
Can't imagine why it could be DQd...
I'm also losing hope that I'd ever see my item. I have an idea what might lead it to be disqualified, but that would be a misunderstanding. In any case, I hope there's a way to recover it after the voting process, as I haven't saved the text...
Just putting a new character together and must admit this is my first real venture into spell-caster territory, so I'm a little bit lost. Just how important is a good concentration check for a Magus? I assume very?
Do they need to make a check when using Spellstrike? I know with Spell Combat you can caste defensively (so I assume you really should unless you like getting hit in the face), but wasn't sure about Strike.
