1001 Spiritualist Concepts

Occult Adventures Playtest General Discussion

Much like the other thread this is a place for the Peoples of the Paizo to place their Spiritualist character concepts.

1. A man lay dying from illness and his wife tried desperately to find a cure for him. The man recovered but unfortunately his wife died in the search. Shortly after she clawed her way back from the nadir and the man found her spirit residing within his mind. Her memories are fuzzy and unclear causing frustration and confusion, but he knows and he hasn't figured out how to tell her. A part of him is glad to have her back even in this form.

2. A little girl saw a great paladin fall in combat just shy of completing the trial he had been set upon. The spirit of the paladin became bound to her and for a while she thought he was just a dream or an imaginary friend, but when she got older coming into her power she realized that he was all too real. Now she is out to complete the quest that had claimed his life.

4. A fated family of Bizarre individuals has been bound for a hundred years to thwart the evil schemes of a powerful vampire, whose blood mixed with theirs at a certain point of their family tree. When the monster awakens after decades, a distant ancestor's spirit calls to arms all his descendants, granting them the power to free their own interior self in a semi tangible form... ^_^

5.) It doesn't happen often, but sometimes an Eidolon DOES die. But death isn't always then end. Those Eidolons who had an especially strong bond with their Summoner will sometimes claw their way out of the realm of the dead to join the Summoner again. Things aren't the same, since the dead nature of the Eidolon alters the way that the Summoner can use magic. But it's worth it; that separation would be more painful than anything.

Grand Lodge

6. Boogeymen aren't real. They're a thing of fear and illusion all children eventually overcome. What, however, happens when the boogeyman in the back of your mind as a child claws its way out and into the real world?

The Exchange

7. A Doctor watches his beloved wife die of a long drawn illness, despite his best efforts to save her. In his desperation to bring her back, he reaches into unspeakable magics, and pulls her from the grave...to be with him forever.

8. A father buries his son who was run down by a carrriage in this old mwangi burial ground. His son comes back, but is no longer the same.

9.You're an elf prison warden on the hunt for one of your escaped prisoners, an elf who has thrown his lot with demons in exchange for arcane prowess. After your chase of this dangerous criminal has resulted in the deaths of many of your friends, you realise that you can hear your deceased friends in your head, and they long for vengeance..

Dark Archive

10. A recently diceaced man rises from his grave as a spirit. He partners up with his old best friend to do stuff. Awesome magic stuff.
11. A child was born with 2 personalities, but eventually turned out to be possessed since birth. He took this as an opportunity, and works with this spirit to also do awesome magic stuff.

12.) There is an order of Spiritualists devoted to Sarenrae called the Dark Before. Their mission in life is to find spirits who have evaded being sucked into the abyss or sent down the styx, and do the impossible; redeem them. These are the souls, after all, of murderers and monsters. Is it truly possible to have them repent for what they've done?

Ha ;)

14. When an Eidolon meets its True Death, sometimes it leaves behind crystal remnants. Sometimes, those crystals hold latent remnants of the Eidolon's power, leading a person who holds the shards to acquire a fraction of it for themselves over time. The manifestation may not exactly match up to the original in scale...and those who knew the creature might be displeased to know that the magicite, as these shards are called, are in the hands of the unworthy.

15. Never mess around with magic you don't understand. If you're lucky you'll be killed. If you're unlucky, you might have your mind and soul blasted apart. If you're especially unlucky, you might have your mind and soul blasted apart and yet still be linked.

And you'll spend the rest of your "life" watching your body do things from the outside.
And you'll spend the rest of your "life" watching your soul seethe with corruption barely held back by your will.

16. There is no spiritualist, only Zuul.

17.) One day, years after he had died, your best friend appeared to you in chains. He told you that you had to change your ways, or else you'd end up with his fate. Fortunately, he can change his fate by altering yours. So now the both of you have to redeem yourselves with acts of heroics.

18.) A mother's love can transcend all things. Even death.

21) In the womb before you were born, your body assimilated your twin's body with your own. Even though this caused her to never be born, her soul happened to already be in her body, causing it to partially merge with your own flesh and hide within your undeveloped mind.

22.) The Phantom who is bound to you was a person who was deeply, obsessively in love with you. Whether you return that affection is another matter entirely, but they are devoted to doing everything you ask of them.

23.) Everyone has their "inner demons" doubt, depression, addiction, etc.. what not everyone knows is that they really are separate beings. And you can bring yours to "life".

...Anyone read WapsiSquare? Check out the design visuals for "demons". They'd make fantastic phantoms.

As much as I like it, wouldn't that be more of a Medium thing rather than Spiritualist?

Man, that would be embarrassing for any would-be hero (or villain)!

Beyond: Two Souls anyone?(although that game could be considered the spiritualist in a nutshell)

27.) You wanted power. The demon offered power. You didn't realize what a horrible mistake you made until the demon possessed your body and squeezed your soul out. Now, still tethered to your body, you are forced to serve your new master. You are the phantom, and he is you.
