Layout on Deep Magic is powering on and the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight (although that could actually be a massive fireball headed my way :)

There will be more official announcements on this front soon of course, but all I can say is ... WOW, there are a lot of spells in this thing (as in, over 700)!!!!

Speaking of new spells, how do more than 170 new Druid/Shaman spells sound???

Head over to the Kobold Press site for a cool little Deep Magic: Druid Spells Preview

Did I mention ... more than 700 spells? :)

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product! (and, maybe, how well my work withstood editing :) )

Me too. I know there is a lot of great stuff in this book.

Sounds decadent.

Yeah, it's funny - I can't tell you how many times I would be working on the layout one of the chapters and I'd stop and read something and think "Oh, that's so cool!!!

Heh, the sheer amount of awesome stuff in the book probably cut down my productivity at least by half because I had to keep stopping to read some new cool spell or idea or archetype or .... well, you get the idea :)

While you could read the plain text files for content to get it out of your system, I can understand wanting to see it in near finale layout format in all its glory. Catch 22.

Net yet Papa Smurf :)

Liberty's Edge

Ha! I just noticed my icon changed above!

So, in addition to the number 700 (the number of spells in the book), here's another number: 376! ;)

Dark Archive

Oh wow, completely unknown to me, I think I have a spell or two in this book! I'm just that sneaky!

I will bite, what does 376 represent? My guess, page count.

Some of those druid spells look a bit familiar. :)

They should, at least a third of them are yours. :)

Others are from the Margreve book, from Player's Guides, and other Kobold Press titles. It was a lot of fun compiling (and sometimes cherry-picking) the best of the Kobold Press spell corpus to date.

And then shining them up in development. And adding Mythic elements. And... Well, you know. Sometimes it's hard to stop.

So after Deep Magic is done how about another Kickstarter along the lines of Dangerous Monsters, a full color Bestiary collecting the best monsters from Kobold Press, Kobold Press Website (some great stuff on there), and Kobold Quarterly. And similar to the Paizo Bestiaries each monster is presented with a 1 or 2 page layout. This is one of those things that really should happen.

How about a kickstarter for Kobold Quarterly? I'd pledge.

Very cool stuff! It's really neat to learn more about Guido.

Looking forward to getting my hands on the finished book ;)

The latest Deep Magic artist profile is up on the Kobold Press website! This time, it's with artist Bryan Syme.

The art in this book is truly awesome, let me tell you, and there are some great preview pieces at the link.

Liberty's Edge

Agreed!!! Be sure to check this artist profile out!

For those interested, there's a lengthy update about the Deep Magic project here, on its Kickstarter page. We're excited to say that we should be getting press proofs soon for the printed book, which is on schedule for its May release date!

More details at the link.

And another Deep Magic artist profile, this time with Marcel Mercado. He also shows a preview of a gorgeous chapter-opener that involves a snarling rakshasa. :)

The snarling rakshasa fighting the moon oracle, no less ('cause, the new moon oracle mystery is in there too!:)

Very nice art all around! Now I'm even more excited... Curse you Kobolds and Friends!

Are... we talking about the same book that got kickstarted to new highs?

We are talking about Deep Magic, which had a WILDLY successful Kickstarter, so ... yes? :)

Hey yeah, whatever happened to the Resonance Generator thing, that was for backers of both Deep Magic and Dreamscarred's Psionic Minis? I haven't heard anything about that for awhile...

Yep, it is underway. The main books took priority, but this small extra is on the to-do list.

Update on the Kickstarter page. The smaller print book is shipping to backers.

I got my PDF version of the Kobold Guide to Magic yesterday (took forever to get the DriveThru link to work due to heavy traffic, but eventually it did). Glad to see everything cruisin' on along at a great pace!

And now we even get MYTHIC Deep Magic in the Mythic Mania KS !!

What a great year for gaming!

(posted in the product thread, but worth posting here as well ...)

Oh ....

My ...

GOD!!!!!

I received a fairly heavy package today. Inside was not one but TWO copies of the Deep Magic hardback - the beautiful standard version with the amazing cover art and the limited (I think higher-lever backer only) leatherette, silver foil rune cover edition!

All I can say about paging through these is ... Wow, just ... Wow!

The book looks SO good! The paper stock is fantastic, the printing is perfect ... it's just a beautiful book. It blows away every expectation I had by a mile. I could not be happier about the final result.

I'd post more but I need to get back to reading - 375 pages is a BIG book! :)

So, can we eventually expect a combat book including a complete collection of scaling combat feats and melee subsystems?

Well, have you checked out the New Paths Compendium, also from Kobold Press? It contains a pretty comprehensive section on Scaling Combat Feats ...

Yeah but people rarely do a whole big book on combat. Heck even Ultimate Combat has more magic than anything else.

Maybe that'll be in New Paths Compendium II...

we'll just have to chain Marc to his desk so he can "git 'er done!" ;D

you just reminded me of an old 3rd party 2E box I have tucked away somewhere. One of the few things I'd ever seen that was pretty much all Combat.

Had an alternate injury system
fighting styles
combat maneuvers
crit charts

had this really neat combat card system for the maneuvers where players would play Attack and defense cards and match them up against each other for bonuses and penalties on hit, damage and crit.

pretty sure I still have it ....need to dig in the piles to find it.

Blood & Steel from Mayfair games. Served me well back in the day

I'm happy to report that Deep Magic *already* includes a lot of Mythic spells (as written by Stephen Radney-MacFarland).

The Mythic Magic Kickstarter expands the list!

And it will expand it even more with future stretch goals!

Ha! Sure, I'll knock it out during my copious amounts of free time! Look for it next Thursday, most likely :)

Just arrived in Houston, TX. That is all.

[Threadjack] Heh heh- y'know I'm just teasin' ya, right? LAST thing I'd want is for you to get burned out. Just a fan o' your work, eager for more (by-the-by, I picked up the Wondrous Items 1&2 and saw that you'd done to art in there; was that ALL of the art, or the art direction, or...? Because the graphics were simply- WOW.)[/Threadjack]

So, what's this in my mail? a package, you say? and in my e-mail? a PDF?? Great googly-mooglie, it's even bigger than I expected !

and ooohhh... shiny....

And has that new book smell! MMMMMMM delicious!

BTW reviewed under Products.

Thank you for the review!

And yeah, our biggest book to date, printed on really good paper, with the best art and best writing we could wrangle. We're some proud kobolds today. Well, I sure am!

Oh sure! Thanks for the nice words, by the way! Yep, art direction, graphic design and art for Wondrous Items 1&2 are my fault :)

Enough about me though! Back to Deep Magic!!!! :)

What more need be said?

It's awesome.
Buy it.
Buy two copies, and give one to a random stranger on the street.
Tell all your friends about it.
Scribble about it on the walls of public bathroom stalls (with www info, of course).
Pass out flyers at your local FLGS, McDonalds, & Starbucks.
Give people that 'are you crazy?' look when they ask why they need it, then inform them of how they can't possibly live without it.
Buy an extra hardcopy for your bunker just in case Putin really does go over the edge.

And the list goes on...
