Hey all,

With the advent of the holidays (in the US at least) I thought it would be nice to have a thread that details things about PFS that we are thankful for. Let's have something fun and friendly on the boards for awhile.

I'll start.

I'm thankful that because of PFS and the far-reaching aspects of the society I've gotten:

A chance to travel to places in the US that I probably wouldn't have gone to otherwise.

The oportunity to travel abroad (in 2014 silly vacation schedule)

A close network of friends that came together with one commone thing and have expanded into out of game friendships.

We've been given a space where gamers from across the world can "meet" and express our opinions

Grand Lodge 5/5

I am thankful for all the great folks I have met playing PFS.

I'm Canadian - so we had our Thanksgiving already. But I am very thankful to have discovered the PFS. It has breathed new life and excitement in to our gaming groups. My friends and I are excited to start building a PFS community in the area.

I am also thankful for my Printer. Who has been tireless printing off handouts, sessions, and posters for the PFS.

I am thankful for PFS giving me something to keep me sane while I go through grad school.

I am thankful for PFS introducing me to tabletop RPGs. If I hadn't been pulled away from an EDH game to fill a table of Shipyard Rats, I would never have learned about this great community.

I am thankful for all the friends I have met through PFS. I've gotten to meet some amazing people during my stint here so far, and hopefully I get to start traveling more this coming year so I can meet more of you.

I have been very thankful to PFS for a number of reasons:

- my undergrad students have something to look forward to on Thursday nights
- my undergrad students have been able to make new friends and fight homesickness
- my colleagues have "come out" about being big PFS nerds thanks to leaving stuff in the printer by accident, so we don't fight at faculty meetings about stuff any more
- my brother-in-law (who is a big sports guy) and I now spend time together playing PFS
- I've met a lot of great people willing to volunteer their time and money to run games
- I've gotten a LOT of American Express rewards points for ordering stuff. ^_^

I have to say I am most thankful for all the things in the first post I ever made here:

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2o9pp?Notes-from-around-the-table#1

Quote:

An incredible thing happened: other faculty members suddenly revealed a geeky and nerdy side of "I played that!!" and my students were shocked and awed by the collection in my bookcases. People I didn't really have a reason to talk to suddenly had volumes to say, and homesick freshman stuck for summer classes perked up at the idea of a game.

I told a certain bearded, Canadian librarian about this by email and he sent me back the greatest message about not taking myself seriously and to enjoy the company and friendship that his writing and my gaming brought to life.

I'm very thankful for all of those things.

I'm thankful for the great friends I've met through PFS.

I'm thankful for PFS being able to give me a tabletop rpg to play after I hadn't been able to play one for a while.

I'm thankful to the Paizo staff for being able to give us gamers a quality game with with great products.

I'm thankful to the meat shields that protect my squishy characters game after game.

I am thankful for the nice folks on the PFS folks. Good friends like Purple Fluffy, Thursty, Kyle B. The wonderful feedback i have, and continue to receive. I'm also grateful for the hard work of the VCs and VLs-without their efforts I might never have had a chance to write! I am definitely grateful for the opportunity to develop as a writer and adventure designer. I am thankful to Mark Moreland and Mike Brock for giving me a chance.

I owe so much to PFS, and I wish the best for it for years to come.

I'm thankful that I live in MN a state with deep and old roots in the RPG community, a community that remains strong to this day.

In no particular order:

Im thankful for the new friends I've made through PFS (even Mourne). ;)

Im thankful for my lgs who has bent over backwards to help us make room for our growing local group.

Im thankful for my regular GMs who volunteer to run games far more often than I wish I needed them to.

Im thankful for my wife being so willing to help me keep our local group running and organized.

Im thankful to PFS for giving me a way to stretch my GMing muscles.

I am thankful for all the delicious tears I've consumed over the past 3+ years.

Grand Lodge 4/5

I'm thankful for a local player who has been attending three PFS sessions a week for a month or two and has decided to step up and be a PFS GM for the first time! Whoo-hoo! Snagged another one.

Spoiler:
An evil chuckle that begins as low rumbling rises to a deafening laugh as Sveden runs screaming into the night.

I am thankful my tears did not come from death, just from the fear of losing a very expensive item...

I'm thankful for PFS because of all the rock stars and hot women I've met, the free drugs, fast cars, and killer Hollywood parties.

What...you guys didn't get invited to the parties?

(...and then I woke up and realized I'm really thankful for the awesome local community of gamers. PFS is a fun reason to get together with like minded nerds and have a great time. Without organized play, I wouldn't know nearly as many wonderful people as I do now.)

I'm thankful for the gaming community that took me in and showed me how the system worked.

I'm thankful for all the wonderful players I have met that have brightened my days.

I'm thankful to those who let me GM for them.

I'm extra thankful for those who are wanting to learn how to GM.

*Very* thankful for all the crazy local yahoos who make all the wonderful conventions happen that I manage to make it to (Kubla, Pacific, Conquest).

Extra thanks to Verdigris for putting in a crazy amount of work into the records keeping of all those cons and taking me in on that skill set.

Thankful to the campaign staff for putting so much effort into growing the campaign (and putting up with our antics).

Also extremely thankful for our local coordinator, Lady Opheilia, who puts up with my complete and total scatter-brain.

And big thanks to the local VC who got me into the game (first session, he was the GM), convinced me I could GM, helped me grow as a GM, and has always been hilarious and welcoming: Mike Azzolino.

Thanks to everyone, and may your holidays be bright and merry, wherever you are!

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Im always thankful that my great friendships are brought closer by PFS gaming.

I'm thankful for the many excellent people I've met in the past 10 months (since returning to PFS after a several-year hiatus), both in person and here on the boards. I'm also thankful for becoming re-acquainted with several old friends (from OP campaigns long passed) via PFS.

I'm thankful for getting the venue to develop a character who has proven to be one of the most enjoyable PCs I've ever played. I tend to be the guy who plays the Hero with a capital H (lots of paladins and healers in my portfolio) -- I never imagined I'd have so much fun playing a morally-questionable bint of a pirate captain. :-)

Let's see.... for what am I grateful?

A low Will save.

If I had not agreed to help Sveden get a brand new location going I would still be just another home gm. I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. Sure, I've been at this hobby for well over twenty years but Pathfinder Society play is a whole new critter. I am a quiet, somewhat shy person by nature who suffers occasional bouts of depression. I had a lot of real fear about sitting down at a table with a bunch of strangers.

Instead, less than one year later I have been welcomed into a group of men and women with open arms. Through the efforts of Sveden, Mister Slankey, Andy Christian, Jiggy and everyone else who accepts my madness on a weekly basis, I've been elevated to Junior Poobah status. Thank you, I am eternally grateful for everything that has happened.

And all because Sveden asked me, "Hey, do you want to help me get this going? I think it would be a lot of fun."

I am thankful for meeting everyone here in Jacksonville. All the new friends i have made. My friends down in Tampa and St.Pete to the crew I ran with at Gen-Con. The fun ribbing here online with the PFS Community. I am gratful for that.

I totally pictured him saying this while carrying armfuls of booze and wearing a space suit.

As for what I'm thankful for...
.
*ahem*
.
.
Half-frozen clerics with flaming greataxes;
Atheist rangers who hand us our a**es;
Spellstriking Taldans with rapiers keen'd;
These are a few of my favorite things.

Museums with mists that can turn us to monkeys;
Sewer-rat bards who have chain-wielding flunkies;
Flesh golems dressed up in blouses and rings;
These are a few of my favorite things.

Undead spellcasters in minotaur mazes;
Osirian oracles whose magic blazes;
Zombies at operas fit for a king;
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the ghoul bites,
When the harpies sing,
When my class is MAD,
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feeeeeeeeeel so baaaaaaaaad!

So how many of the nine referenced scenarios did you guess?

EDIT: And it only took, like, ten minutes. Sheesh. :)

She's not Osirion, she's a Thuvian water bandit.

Silver Crusade 2/5

I think Jiggy deserves some sort of mad crazy boon, or listing in a PFS scenario for that. Stonking great piles of awesome! Well done, Jiggy!

I know I mentioned this in another post but I am going to state it here as well. I am very thankful that PFS has such a helpful community here online. If I have a question, I actually feel comfortable coming to the boards If I am not able to find my answer. My journey as a GM has benefited by the collective knowledge presented and it has been greatly appreciated.

Got 7 right, 1 wrong, and 1 no idea what it was.

Also because of this, I fully expect you to follow this up with a '12 days of Christmas' version next month. :P

She's my favorite NPC of all time. At least Thuvian can directly replace Osirion in your lyrics.

Alas, it's too late for me to edit. I'll be more careful with The 12 Days of PFS.

I am thankful for PFS stepping in to fill the void left in the living campaign scene when Living Greyhawk ended. This way i still get to play a great game at cons or my flgs. With the friendships that i made and carried on through the last 12years.

I'm thankful to have discovered PFS and can once again game on the weekends.

I'm thankful my entire family has decided to not go shopping on Black Friday and instead stay in play through the First Steps while teaching my mom to play.

I'm thankful I have such an awesome and supportive group of players in my area who always provide an entertaining time.

I'm also thankful for other stuff, but I'll post about all that on the other stuff forums. :)

I wouldn't mind as long as it was at your character's funeral service.

I was very hesitant to come over to PFS, because I met wonderful people playing the other organized play game. But eventually, I did.

I'm thankful that:
a) the PFS scene in my area is very active - and that includes online options as well
b) I met additional wonderful gamers in my PFS community
c) I've brought younger people into the fold, as I'm faculty sponsor for the high school's pathfinder society club.
d) Some of those players of that other organized play system - the ones I miss playing with - are starting to come around and play PFS too.

One year ago today I played my first PFS scenario with my Son. Quest for Perfection Pt 1 if I remember correctly.

Thanks to the Paizo for making such a fun game I can share with my son.

Thanks to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Pathfinder Society for helping me learn the ropes.

And finally thanks to all the players and GMs I've spent many hours with this past year.

Here's to another great year!
