So, as we know, this is year 2 of the 1,000 Years Of Darkness. The fading light is waning slowly it seems.
I'm looking forward to the night.

29 years of playing D&D has prepared me for this darkness. This makes me
so... happy! And since Chuck Norris spoke this prophecy it, I know it to
be true.I'm voting for Obama now, for sure. For sure, for sure, for sure.

Recently, this thread has started popping into my mind. It pops in a few times a week as I go about my daily business. Typically I'm driving and alone with my thoughts. I'm actually afraid as we head down the path of re-tribalization [sic] something will happen, from which it may well take humanity 1,000 years to recover. At the beginning, I thought Chuck Norris' comments were a joke; now it's not as clear.
Chuck Norris Prophet of Doom |
Well, the period from the death of Earth to its reterraforming by humanity's space-born, genetically-engineered descendants is approximately one thousand years.
So far, we're perfectly on track for that. The spread of antibiotic resistance, the early vaccine resistance, the growing environmental disaster, and the growing instability of nations in areas we can't talk about here is all perfectly on track.
All we need now is the widespread adoption of alternative energy, but with shortcuts taken to get the costs down and production up, and a city-wide experiment with hydrogen fuel cells to cement the growing disaster.
I hope you enjoyed the Golden Age of human civilization. It's all downhill from here.

I'm actually afraid as we head down the path of re-tribalization [sic] something will happen, from which it may well take humanity 1,000 years to recover.
I refuse to accept that. This is merely the semi-mindless/semi-engineered recoil before the revelation of an unprecedented truth:
There's no need for group identity at all.
That which once made humanity's survival possible is now killing it. The time has come for the next phase in evolution.

Group identity defined humanity, and a lot of its movements both within and without politics, up until present day. Up until the 1990s, it was such a part of international relations that there has been absolutely no evolutionary pressure to evolve away from it.
Evolution is not instantaneous. Group identity is likely not going anywhere for far longer than the next thousand years simply because we keep finding new reasons to keep it around.
