I was looking at my gaming shelf the other day and noticed that I had a lot of these.

So I decided to make myself a nice carrying/display case for my current Pathfinder character. Here it is:

Front View.

Rear View. I put the combat table on here. It lists what action is a standard, move, swift, etc, and whether or not it provokes an Attack of Oppurtunity. We seem to look these rules up a lot.

Another Front View.

Spine View.

Another Rear View.

Inside View. Notice the character sheet on the left, a pencil in the middle, and stuff behind a plastic screen on the right.

Another Inside View. The plastic screen is opened up. Revealing a set of dice to use along with my miniature for this character. Oh look, it also holds a complete set of spell cards that my character can cast.

Everything View. This is everything that's inside the box.

I plan to make one for each of the characters/players in the party. What does everyone think?

Very nicely done. Makes me wish I had some of my own to work with.

That's some really nice work, man. How did you piece together the cover art? I'm really quite jealous. That's some fine craftsmanship that.

I rather miss making character sheets. It's been a long time since we've taken ours out of ms word, and we've been using plain statblocks for a good year now. I remember I had a shapeshifter with tabs that folded over my ability scores, melee damage, etc depending on what form I was in. I was fairly proud of that. Then he was written out before he even saw combat. Not my GMs finest hour.

And as a side note, I think my friend has those very same boxes for storing tokens. Perhaps minus the little paperclips in the lid. I wonder would he let me commandeer one? Shame we don't use minis, though. Our "minis" are 1cm cubes, which if we're lucky get a personalized icon and a letter glued to the top. Sometimes I miss the days we werent so lazy.

Edit: Very curious about the spell cards, too. Where did you find them?

Excellent work, Astral. I really really like what you've done. Very creative and it looks extremely functional.

Indeed, it is an awesome job, kudos to you my fellow gamer.

Very nicely done! Nice way to keep all of your character stuff together. It looks like you used Perram's Spellbook for the spellcards (I recommend y'all check the site out if you haven't already).

Just want to pop in and say nice avatar, Liz :D

Liberty's Edge

Nice kit!

My son has a few of those WoW CCG starters around somewhere. I am going to make him one for his PFS character.

Awesome stuff. If these boards had an XP system, my guess is you would get a level or three out of this one. As it stands, a favorite post and a mention on the podcast will have to do.

Very nice .. !

Thanks everyone.

I made them using these boxes here. Just a side note, the WoW TCG is pretty darn good too.
WoW TCG on Amazon

I then created a template using Microsoft Publisher 2007. I used a piece of legal sized paper because of the dimensions of the box. I then cut it down to the correct size and popped it in. No cutting required as there's a nice plastic sleeve that holds the cover. I can send anyone the Publisher file if you want it.

I then created my character sheet. I like to use online character sheets so that my character is always available if I forget it. I use the one here:
DNDSheet.net
It has a pathfinder sheet. I then set the printing preferences to remove the header and footer, I then shrunk it down to 80 or 70 percent, I forget which, and printed it. I then cut it so that it fits in the box.

The spell cards were created from the site Liz mentioned, thanks. It's a great site and such a useful tool. Here's the link again:
Perram's Spellbook
The only thing with the spellcards. You have to play with the printing preferences quite a bit to get them to print out perfectly. He gives you most of the instructions needed right on the site.

And that's it. Let me know if anyone wants the .pub file.

That rocks! I will have to see if I canfind some of those cases at the local gaming stores. Does that plastic screen built into the case or did you fabricate that as well?

I would love the publisher file to use as a template.

Great job!

Respectfully,
Pol

The plastic screen is indeed built into the case. Give me an email address to send it to, and I'll send it now. Thanks.

I might be tweaking the template a little today to improve the look of the back.

send it to pol_mordreth (at) hotmail.com. And thanks a lot!

My friend has these boxes from an old Pirates of the Carribean card game. They must be pretty common.

I might see if I can put something together for my new players.

Updated it slightly to make the table in the back more readable.

Sent it to Pol Mordreth.

OK that is sooooo amazingly awesome! I have about 20 of these sitting there gathering dust (FLGS had a special on Heroes of Azeroth way back when - $5 a starter to get rid of them).

I'd love a copy of that template if you're willing. :D

Wes, Sean, Liz: Why don't we sell these boxes?! I want my employee discount on a shelf full of characters.

Very nice...I have too many characters to put them all into boxes like that...but still very nic.

I wonder if dry erase or wet erase markers would work on the case plastic without causing damage...if so, you could have a slide in spell sheet or your encounter list, or journal on the things. Pretty cool idea.

Okay. Just established my mate has a good shelf and a half of these boxes full of old trading cards. I was expecting about 3.

It seems I finally an excuse to buy my own dice and minis!

I'm... not so sure this is a good thing.

This is an amazing concept and I hope to implement this very soon.

Liberty's Edge

I bought up a bunch of the boxes at a discount, and began making character folios for my players. Here is the first one I finished. This is such a great idea, you totally deserve awesome praise for it.

Is there a reason we're following this format?

This looks amazing.

These are utterly fantastic. Can you please send any and all templates to
ai (dot) wintermute (at) gmail (dot) com

Cheers

I sent the template along to those who asked for it. Enjoy! I want to see what other templates and boxes people come up with. =)

Shadow Lodge

If you could please include me on the template too. My address is: vcbolduan@gmail.com

If you mean the (at) and (dot) in the email address, it is an attempt to keep spiders and bots from picking up your email address and adding it to their list of saleable email addresses for spam.

I don't know what the efficacy is, but if you put a normally written email address I know that they can grab it. So doesn't hurt to try I suppose.

Very cool. I'd like to take a look at the template. e_clingenpeel (at) yahoo (dot) com Thanks.

That. Is. Awwwwwwwweeeeeeesome!
japercefull at gmail dot com please!

Very nice. ^_^ So...the template - do you hafta have Publisher 2007 to use that? I'm not familiar with the program...

Lantern Lodge

I would love to have the template:
santiagomendeziv (AT) gmail (DOT) com

It just kind of sucks cause I only have a monochrome printer so I won't be having a nice full color image for a while.

Sent out the template again.

Also, I just made the template into a Word document. So you don't need Publisher anymore.

If that's the case, I'd be very interested. Chuck me a line at shag.grenade@live.com if you find the time. Cheers!

As soon as I can get a hold of an actual box to do it I'll be happy to, lol. But I'll see if I can get my friend to take some pics of one I've got mostly done when it's all ready and put together.

Just heard this on the Known Direction podcast and loved how it looks.

I didnt get the email.. You might want to consider posting it on mediafire or 4shared or something like that, if you are comfortable sharing it with the public. Also, I think d20pfsrd hosts files like this for download. :)

I'd buy one of these!

I'd like one as well just need to figure out where I can get the box…
