Thank you for the welcome backs. We should be mostly settled in by Friday, after we get interwebs back.
For what it's worth the bot version of you is doing really well. ;7)
Shen, double check your spells. I think you have shorted yourself.
You cast as a lvl7 wizard, necromancy specialist right with a 17int, right?
If so you should have:
cantrip,4
level one, 6 one of which must be a necromancy spell
Level two, 5 one of which must be a necromancy spell
Level three, 4 one of which must be a necromancy spell
level four, 2 one of which must be a necromancy spell
As I see it you are short,
Two first level spells, one of which must be a necromancy spell
Two second level spells, you have the necromancy slot covered for this level.
Two third level spells, one of which must be a necromancy spell
One fourth level necromancy spell.
Sorry if i'm out of bounds. I am putting together a wizard for another PbP and wanted to see how a higher level one worked.

Hey guys,
My heart is heavy as I write this. As you can probably tell from my silence over the last few days, it seems to be getting tougher and tougher for me to keep this game on track. It's my health, the emotional state I find myself in over the turn in my health, and other things I won't get into. Anyway, it's really becoming evident that I won't be able to post as regularly as a good pbp DM needs to. So, I think I better just call things off. I don't want to leave you guys hanging for days on end without a post from me. It's not fair to you, and it will certainly kill any momentum the game would have (and need).
Sorry guys, I really regret this, but I think it's the best decision.
I wish you all the best, and thanks for sticking with it while it lasted.

Well rats.
I would be quite happy to put things on hold for a month or two if you think that might help? Say check in around August/September?
**SOAP BOX WARNING**
You know your condition best but I know that if it were me in what I know of your position I would feel a strong urge to cut contact with people out of fear of letting them down. If this is a concern please discount it.
You cannot let us down. PbP is a failure free activity. As far as I am concerened at least. I would be quite content with a post a month or less. Even if the post was nothing more that a status report saying "Feel like crap. check again next month."
Please forgive me if i am stepping out of line but I know people who have cut away activities and outside contact when they have become ill. Sometimes it has helped them, sometimes it has not. In any case I will be watching for you to reopen this when you feel better the tsar has been snoozing for a while, a few more months won't do any harm.
But like I said you know your condition best. I just want you to know that I at least will be willing to hang in with this until you feel better. I mean look at it from my end. If I don't have you folks to talk to I'll have to do work.:7)
In any case, feel better soon. I expect It will be quite a while before I stop checking these threads for new posts.
Best of luck
~will AKA Aeneas

Toothless Dragon |

Will, thanks for your kind words.
I think here the issue is that I don't necessarily want to cut off contact, it's just that it takes such a lot of time and dedication to run a pbp game of the quality that you deserve. I confess that I am not really a rules expert (I'm much more of a story/character oriented DM), especially at higher levels, and so it takes me a lot of time to look things up. I admit to being a bit obsessive about things too, so I double and triple check for every +1 to be correct, and so forth. This takes a lot of time, and I just don't have the energy for it right now, frankly.
It's super cool for you to offer to stick around even if the game updates very infrequently, but in a combat-heavy game like this, that would slow everything down so much that I think it would just be frustrating for all involved.
Truly, the only way I really see to keep the game going would be if I could get some help, for example a co-DM. Someone to help me with die rolls and combats, while I focused more on my strengths, the role-playing and dialogue and storyline direction? I don't know, just spit-balling here.
Still, I really do appreciate your concern and support. Not out of line at all.

Aeneas |

just spit-balling here.
I can help with that. Heck I expect all or most of us can pitch in. I'm pretty good at seperating player/GM knowledge and I'm at least ok with the rules. Though frankly I consider the rules more for the players than the GM. Most of the time I'm just making things up when I'm behind the shield.
But heck i'm willing. Give me the stats and an clue to tactics and how you want the encounder to play out and I'll run with it. Something like..I am also quite fine with this going sporadic on a Toothless posts when toothless posts basis. Some players might fade away but new ones can be brought in pretty easy with a recruting thread that is crystal clear about the sporadic nature of the game. I'm more than happy to deal with that as well.
Anyway, spitball back at you. :7)

Really sorry to hear about this. Still I understand where you are coming from. I too am not that much into a rules heavy game as I prefer the story and character development.
I will keep watching though. Get well soon.

Alexander Pierce |

I'm very sorry to hear that your illness is taking so much out of you and I definitely understand it. As I had mentioned when you first had your hospital stay, I had a pretty major illness last year make me disappear from the boards for a good chunk of time. I really do relate to this.
I think the biggest thing you need to worry about is not burning yourself out. If you do want the connection and distraction that the RP can offer and think you will be fine with a co-DM or the like, then that is great and I think we all will be quite understanding if you find yourself with any slow down periods where you are getting tired. If you need to take an extended break to recover or if the game simply needs to be put aside, none of us are going to begrudge you for it. Do what is best for you and your health.
I do want to say that we really have a great group of players here and you have been a lot of fun as a DM. I know there is no private messaging system on these boards, so if any of you want to keep in touch or perhaps partner up in future games(I try and keep busy with PbPs so I'm always involved in a few as player or DM), feel free to drop me a line at the e-mail below.

Thanks all, obviously I'm still paying attention here but I wanted to toss that out in case things do go quiet.

Dude, just focus on getting well. If you think you can have a co-DM, awesome! If you can't then we understand. I would love to see this game continue, but your health takes priority.
If you decide to go on hiatus and come back later, looking for players for any of your other games, go ahead and drop me an Email. Mine is:
gannydonaldson at gmail dot com
I will also continue to pay attention to this game.

Toothless Dragon |

Will/Aeneas, I truly do appreciate that offer. My only qualm is that it seems like it would take a lot of the fun out of it for you. Ideally, if a co-DM scenario was possible, it would be someone who did not also have a PC involved. I wonder if I ran an advert on Gamer Connection for someone, would I get any bites? I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask.
Seriously, though, guys, this is a great group. That's why I'm loathe to walk away entirely. Thanks for that. :)

Dreaming Warforged |

I'll start by thanking you for the honesty you showed. It has been great fun so far.
I'll echo the others in mentioning your health taking priority. It's when you loose it that you get how it is the most precious thing you have.
I'm no fan of sporadic postings, as I loose touch and interest, but I'm willing to give it a try if all are on board.
I'll keep an eye out.
Best wishes of health.

Poor Wandering One |

Okay, guys, maybe I'm crazy but I went ahead and posted for a co-DM. We'll see what happens. If you want to check it out, maybe put in a good word for the game, please do so.
Well we know you are crazy. You are here.
I think I could do both and still have fun. but we'll see what the response it like.

Toothless Dragon |

Well guys, I've decided not to pursue the co-DM idea further. I think that, while it may help in some ways, it would also just further serve to complicate things in others. That would be counter-productive to my goals at present, so it's a no go.
I truly think what's best for me, though I regret it mightily, is to put this game to rest for the moment. Note well that this doesn't necessarily mean that I want to withdraw from all contact on these boards, nor even from pbp altogether. Maybe I'll look for an opportunity to participate in a game as a player. Or maybe I'll even still try to get something going in the coming days/weeks as a DM...just something lower level and less epic in scope. We shall see.
Again, though, thanks for being good sports, and for all your kind and supportive words. It really, honestly, means a great deal to me.
Take care, and I hope to have the opportunity to game with some of you again down the road.

Understood, focus on what you need to. Feel free to e-mail me if the urge strikes.
I will keep an eye open for you on the boards and expect a younger lower level Aeneas to make an appearance when you open up a new adventure.

Definitely take care of yourself and get well. Its been good gaming with you and hopefully we'll get to see you up and running again at full speed soon.
As Aeneas noted above, feel free to use that email address I gave a few posts ago if anything is going on or even if you just want to vent to someone who has been through something similar.
Take care of yourself.
