Nuriyah al-Hariq |
"Well, it looks like we have a choice here. Does anyone else want a closer look at that statue?" Nuriyah turns to Chui. "Chui, can your companion walk along the ledge to get to the alcove?"
Jaidu |
Jaidu enters the cavern; an excited look on his Ratfolk face!
How many heads can I hit at once!
A slightly disappointed expression begins to form on his face; although, when he notices the 3 canoes, the alcove, and especially the ledge that leads around the water to the alcove; Jaidu smiles.
So, we walk along the ledge, then the Hydra comes out! Sweet!
The Gunslinger begins making his way to the alcove; by way of the ledge.

Ok, the map shows that ledge to be about 5' wide folks... I don't think we need acrobatics checks. The dino is large though, so it might need to squeeze.
Tyug'u replies: "Indeed, let's take a careful look at that statue, and those braziers. But look sharp everyone, why would those braziers be burning if there's no-one here? Could they be magical, everburning?"
Detect magic anyone, both the braziers and the statue as we approach...
He too keeps a sharp eye out for trouble, as he heads along the edge to the water to the statue.

It's a statue of a Marrileth. What it's doing here, no one knows. Although it's made of hewn stone, she can tell you that much.

Tyug'u backs away from the water, saying "There's something in there", pointing with his bardiche...

Takeda backs from the water and takes a defensive stance. He focuses his ki and draws on his protective art. (casting barkskin +3 natural armor, 70 mins) 'This could be the first great challenge of the jungle.' He thinks to himself.

Well, I trust your Ifrit eyes, Nuriyah. Let’s see how well trained it is—if it shows itself I should be able to calm it so we may pass. That is, if it is the only guardian of this pool.
He can. It's a white Nile Crocodile. So far, you haven't tried to harm it, so it leaves you alone.
Phoibe Rhamnousia |
Phoibe looks at the statue and her climbing gear and says if we can't use the canoes and the ledge will not work as either may disturb our albino friend, then I could set up my climbing kit to get us across as well
Jaidu |
Jaidu shrugs his shoulders.
I guess that we will need to traverse this water.
He begins inspecting the canoes. Having zero idea (except really big holes) what he is looking at....
Zero knowledge skills is going to be painful!
Jaidu shakes his whiskers.
Can anyone convince the nice crocodile(s) not to eat us as we crossed?
Hanuhpah |
Hanuhpah croaks softy then speaks. "I can charm it with a simple hex. Makes it friendly towards me. Do not know if that would stop it from eating you. I Can just climb out of its reach. They hunt the waters edge and have no desire for a chase. If we get around it making it while making it more trouble than it's worth we can avoid killing it.

"Uhhh, well, I can convince the nice crocodile to be dead... Not sure that's what you want though."
Chui Aolu Dendo of Ubtao |
Let youtake the canoes. For my part, I will swim on Windaghi as he will not fit in a canoe. If the crocodile tries to harm any of us, Hanupah or I will calm it and we will know it is a guard. Otherwise we will be across with no harm done.
To Tyug’u, he adds Any of us can do that. It is hardly impressive.. But not sharply and with a note of humor matching the self-deprecation in the original comment.
Nuriyah al-Hariq |
"Canoes sound fine to me." If Chui wants to take the risk of swimming with his dinosaur, it's not Nuriyah's place to object. The fire genasi carefully gets into the canoe closest to Hanuhpah.
Timerus A'Conal |
Timerus glances at the white crocodile as it floated in thewater, eyes and nose barely visible.
Is crocodile edible? A nice set of boots might be what I need for my ensemble. ...oh I can roast it very nicely if needed.
Tyug’u Yakshi |
"Canoe might just be trap. Why would they all be on this side if snakes live on the other? And harder to charm it while its trying to eat the man trying to make boots of it. If we can't avoid it completely we should charm it now."
Tyug'u agrees with this plan, "Ok, you wander up there and do your thing. If you want someone covering you while you do it, I will come along" and volunteers to come along.
Tygu'u will stay beside Hanuhpah while he charms the croc, with his Bardiche braced for a charge.
Jaidu |
Jaidu jumps onto the sides of a canoe.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Balancing stylishly on the sides of the canoe, the gunslinger smiles.
Ok. Now, who knows how to drive this thing?
Hanuhpah |
Hqnuhpah hesistates but seeing his size relative to the larger and decidedly meatier orc he simply motions for the half orc to follow until hes at the maximum possible diatance to see and affect the crocodile. Praying to Ubtao that this path doesn't end in a crocodiles gullet he tries to soithe the hungry brain of the beast to see them as little more than things of passing uninterest.
Charm Animal DC16 not applying friend to animals as im not going to give him a bonus on his saves.
Hanuhpah |
Tiny heart still beating fast Hanubpah sighs with relief and smiles. An odd effect for a creature whose head is near entirely mouth. Saying nothing he reaches up to the bardiche and gently pulls it away from the water whispering. "we go quietly. We go quickly. And we leave it alone in its pond and we may be left alone."
Takeda Mon'tar |
Takeda walks around to the canoes keeping an eye on the crocodile. To Jaidu he says, "I'm afraid I have no formal training with a canoe but they don't look to difficult to use." He carefully gets into one of the canoes, careful not to upset it and looks for a paddle. "Come on all, adventure awaits."
Chui Aolu Dendo of Ubtao |
Chui looks for a reliable path forward for the canoes, as well as looking out for more crocodiles and other inhabitants of the area. From Windaghi's back he's ready to calm, hold, or dominate other animals as needed.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Windaghi is taking 10 on swim checks as long as needed, for a 21.

"Hey Hanupah, Chui, can either of you talk to crocodiles? Be nice to know if our friend here has more friends around than us. Also, he might be able to tell us about the Tasloi."
Turning to the rest of the party, Tyug'u starts organizing: "Ok, Chui and Windaghi are swimming. As Jaidu and Hanupah are small, the rest of us can fit in 2 canoes: Jaidu, Hannupah, with me and Takeda paddling in one, Nuriyah, Timerus and Phoibe in the other. Sound like a plan?"
Nuriyah al-Hariq |
Nuriyah nods to Tyug'u from her spot in one of the canoes. "It sounds like a good plan. Let's go! We will not find the chief's son here." Phoibe looks strong, between her and Nuriyah they should have no trouble paddling the canoe.
Takeda Mon'tar |
"Let's move out and deal with additional crocodiles as needed. Keep a sharp lookout." Takeda suggests as he begins to stroke with the oar.
