Bugbear 4 was killed by Nuriyah and Timerus. There is one bugbear now, and he is trying to escape to warn the others. However, Jaidu is guarding the door and may try shooting at him.

Okay, well it wasn't much of a surprise round. The bugbears knew you were coming. However, some of you got in a surprise attack and these are the results:

1. Tadeka
Atk: 1d20 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 11 - 1 = 281d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Was definitely a hit. You given one bugbear a bruise.

2. Nuriyah
Acrobatics - High Jump: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17

Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22

Damage w/ Precise Strike: 1d6 + 5 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 7 = 13

You hit one bugbear, and given him a precise puncture wound. He's still up and in the fight though.

3. Tyug'u
Tyug'u lumbers to the improvised barricade and brings his Bardiche down with crushing force... Acting a simple brute, he is still tactical in his choices, using Nuriyah to generate a flank.

To hit: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 5 + 1 + 2 = 24
+5 bab +5 str +1 enhancement+2 flank
Damage: 1d10 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 = 14

Did you take a mutagen? Anyhow the bardiche had actually hit one of them. The flank allowed you to hit the same bugbear as Nuriyah, so you definitely cut through them. That bugbear is dead, thanks to your combined efforts.

There are three bugbears now.

Chui

Having pondered a bit and gathered her thoughts, Miya begins to whisper to Tyug'u about what bugbears are and where they fit into the known history of this lost city...

K(History): 1d20 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 1 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 8 = 25
1 rank +3 trained+1 int+3 Sage Knowledge+8 Skilled

K(Local), about bugbears: 1d20 + 2 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 8 = 29
2 rank +3 trained+1 int+3 Sage Knowledge+8 Skilled

Tyug'u:
The bugbears are a recent newcomer to the city. Here they are free to worship their demons. They send scouts to the various entryways into the city, including this lost and forgotten entrance. The bugbears are free to dwell in the city's land as long as they don't pester the other inhabitants of the city.

Human Druid 7

Chui dismounts, looking at the dead bugbears in the light of the flame in his hand. This passage leads somewhere, at least. It would be well to wake up the survivor and find out precisely where.

He looks around at the cave structure, especially the door Jaidu has found. Curious indeed, how they built into an existing cavern. Perhaps this was originally the home of a burrowing race, before it turned to evil and disbalance.

Would a knowledge(nature or geography) or survival check help tell how old the deliberate construction is? In case not:

Do any of you have knowledge of underground construction, or engineering? I am curious how long ago, how skilfully, and by who, this cavern was modified.

Knowledge (Dungeoneering), Knowledge (Stonecrafting), and probably Knowledge (Geography).

Miya hears Chui's question:

While she ponders, Tyug'u shares "The bugbears are newcomers to the city, they are scouting to find a home here. Where they can worship their demon-gods freely... they are yet to conflict with the other races in the city."

Tyug'u:
The cavern was constructed by humans some four hundred years go, before their blood was fouled. The bugbears carved out the room you're in now. Still, the craftsmanship is fine and is an example of fine stone work by humans.

Chui considers the geographical features.

Female Human Slayer (ankou's shadow) 7: max hp 67, init +6, perc +13, F+10, R+11, W+7, trap sense +2

so this is a way into the city that is not generally known and the bugbears did not get off an alarm. This looks promising Phoibe says.

"Sounds like a plan to me. I'm not much of an interrogator either, though." The guild had specialists for that, and Nuriyah wasn't interested in learning after she struck out on her own. The fire genasi retrieves a coil of silk rope from her bag of holding and begins tying their captive up.

The rock is mostly granite. Although it's volcanic, the volcano is long dead. What's strange is that humans carved out this tunnel using water.

When the bugbear is well tied, Takeda will splash some water (from waterskin) in the thing's face to try and revive it.
