Perfectly understandable.
A dead healer is a useless healer.
When we get to a town that is not currently in flames, we should try to get some potions as back up in case someone goes down.
Ahh, 1st level, so many wants and so little money. ;>
I agree on the death effect thing.
If I was an evil general, I might arrange for a couple of those wisps to stand near a gate and then order my own troops to shoot the wisps. They're like those bombs in Final Fantasy. hehe.

Umm, yeah, about those wisps, they are generally good creatures, just so you know. This one was probably a gaurdian for the depository.

That's a nasty death effect at this level.
It is pretty harsh. You're just lucky that you bloodied and killed it in the same round, so it couldn't use the Immediate Reaction twice on you. This fight exists, to certain extent, to make it clear that you aren't necessarily expected to win every fight in this campaign.

The following is a URL to a person's blog on the topic of monsters / encounters that are meant to be tough and the troubles this can cause for DM's and players. There is also plenty of great feedback to the article on various GM's experiences and advice.
Fighting an Opponent You Can't Beat
Of course, in situations like this, I like to go with those wise words uttered many years ago;
"Don't tell me the odds."

In this case, it seemed more like we were supposed to fight, but it was supposed to delay us enough for Rivereye to get away while we're stumbling around blind.
Also, we're now to the point where my previous game of this ended. What happens after this, I don't know.
Mission accomplished.

This is an interesting issue. I certainly don't think this encounter falls into the unwinnable category or TPK, since I have a definite fall-back plan, but it does a subtle job of making you think about just attacking everything.

But but but ...
I'm playing an Orc. We only come with two modes.
Hit and Hit Harder.
;>
Seriously, I'm fine with that. Especially if there are some clues that we are going to be over our heads or there is a way to get out when things go bad.
Heh, we'll have to teach you hit accurately too! I, too, am fine when things go bad. Makes thing interesting when the party is behind the 8 ball so to speak.

No replies to Xabulba's question or any of the postings in the in game thread for over a week.
I am thus choosing to resign for lack of GM response.
I am sorry because I was really enjoying the story up to the point that the GM stopped responding.

Yeah The War of the Burning sky is awesome, I have the 3.5 version, and who knows, I might take a shot at running it 3.5 version.

Hate to say it, and definitely did not hope it, but the same DM disappeared without notice from a 4E Second Darkness game some time back. His ad for this game was the first post since then.
Oh, yeah, he did didn't he. I just realized, I used a half-elf star pact warlock for both games, using the same alias. Weird.

Maybe you all should post in the Gamer Connection Forum for a replacement DM, just a thought, there's quite a few qualified 4e DM's floating around here. I'm half tempted to offer my services, just not sure if I have the time or qualifications quite yet.
What do you think guys? Should we try getting a repl DM? I would not mind continuing this with another DM, but if no one wants to stick with this game, I can look into doing a 3.5 incarnation of this.
