We started The Council of Thieves adventure Path last week. We met up with what kinda seemed like a resistance and they were discussing the name of the organization, our group really got involved in naming the group and how to be indentified (our DM said their regular name would be the Children of Westcrown)
We desided on "Westcrown Avengers" and yes we played up all the sterotype for The Avengers name
Our Colors are Red and Yellow
All people during missions where Yellow Armbands with Red A's and a hooded cloak (im going to pitch a domino mask next game day)
We have a rallying Cry you guessed it Assemble Avengers!! (used in the game during the attack on the prisoner transport)
All people will have Avenger codenames so that their names are not known to all
Im just wondering did anyone elses group get that involved in naming their Group

Is this a bad time to bring up that the dwarven cavalier in my campaign threw his shield to bash in the face of an undead creature, thus earning him the alias "Captain Cheliax."

Our group of intrepid heroes and the supporting fellows who follow them are known as the Westcrown Reformation Front (Life of Brian jokes abound).
The Reformers have done well so far. Now I just have to make the other NPCs (Ermolos, Vitti, Yakopulio, etc...) appear to pull their weight instead of looking like static background images who don't do anything unless someone is directly viewing them.

My group had decided upon 'Hope of the Fallen'.
In public they use hooded white cloaks with a yellow candle emblazened on the front. When they completed the Basterds lair, they laid out the bodies with a broken coin and a yellow candle on each of the bodies. They seemed quite proud of themselves. :-)

The paladin in my group was trying to convince the NPCs to go with New Republic of Aroden (NRA for short) but he rolled really poorly on his Diplomacy.
The NPCs mentioned what the possible choices were and the players picked the ones they liked best and had a diplomacy roll-off.
Needless to say the paladin got a 20 on that roll, and he was supporting Guardians of Cheliax.
So GoC it is!

Ours went with "Halorens of Westcrown," as they felt their mission was to bring light and hope to people, and safeguard them from things that go bump in the night. It also lets them speak more freely in public, as 'haloren' is a common term. They are wearing robes, masks, and yellow scarves tied around one arm as their signifiers.
We haven't gone with code names yet, and I'm surprised. It was discussed but dropped. "No names" is SOP during missions, but I'm busy quashing table talk all the time then.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
My party calls themselves 'Westcrown Action Front' which admittedly works a little bit better in our language (Dutch).
Abbreviated WAF (which is Dutch for bark, as in dog), they use a dog's head as a logo, which is painted on walls throughout the city.
It's also working well for the villains: I'm having the bad guys refer to the PCs as "puppies", "barely housebroken pets", and ehm 'girl dogs'.
Also, the villains can shout things like 'be a good dog and STAY!' at them when they cast Hold Person, a killed PC 'had to be put down' and so on. It's all coming together beautifully :)

My group heard the suggestion of "Knights of Westcrown" and thought that was stupid since the Nights are dangerous in Westcrown. This lead them to think they should name themselves after lighting up the darkness or something...
So they decided that they should be called the illuminati.
And then were told to come up with a way to hide their identies and come up with a group symbol. Naturally it went downhill from there. :)

When the came out of the sewers they felt blindsided by the "help us name our group" They took it VERY seriously, but because I didn't give them a week to think about it (with all those NPCs eyes on them) they went with "The Avengers" and then they decided to change to Oprah's Book Club.
After the hilarious conversation that followed they stuck with it. They then referred to The Avengers as being the name of the organization and Oprah's Book Club being its strong arm.
Seriously kids, it's ok to sleep at night, Oprah's Book Club is watching over you!

I'm GM'ing, but my group (CN witch, CN bard/ninja, NE ranger, NE rogue) decided on "The Order of Chaos".
Yeah, they're pretty much in it for themselves. Fun so far though. Sixfold Trial on Friday.

Since our group is lead by a male Paladin of Iomedae and his sister, an Inquisitor of Iomedae, the group has decided to call them selves "The Scions of Justice".
I think that naming an adventuring band is important for the flavour of play. I really like reading what other DM's are doing with their players in CoT!
And since this is my first post.... Hello! Im Annika, the psycho DM from North Idaho =)

I'm partial to the "Heavensent" in direct opposition to the Hellknights and the diabolical regime of Egorian. That name has celestial-inspired connotations as well as the very real implication that the PCs are "heavensent" saviors and guardians of the people of Westcrown. It's also a really short name, easy to remember, and something I could see the citizens rallying behind over the course of the campaign.

We went with "The Order of the White Rose" or just "The White Rose" for short. This is in reference to the white roses of Westcrown that all turned black when Aroden died. Not coincidentally, this was when everything went horrible for the city, so there's a certain nostalgia to the white roses, at least for those who have long enough memories to know about them.

There are some fantastic ideas on this thread that I'll use for other resistance groups, but I *really like* this one! Excellent for keeping in flavor of the setting and showing PC involvement with their hometown's past.

My players jumped on the default, Children of Westcrown, aka COW. As a result there's been a large number of bovine jokes, black and white outfits, mooing as a secret signal, etc. At least they're having fun.
That's awesome! Our group went with the Peoples Front for the Liberation of Westcrown...PFLOW. Way too many Monty Python references during the game...but yes, they are having fun.
