Round 5

AC is 22

Sir Manfred slows Trouble down, turns him arund, resets his tourney lance and gallops back towards the fray.

Round 6

"THIS time you face the wrath of the VonFalkenburgs!"

(AC is 20 this round)

Lance charge attack: (1d20+8+2=21)

Lance charge damage: (2d8+6=15) (and then shatters)

Sir Manfred then drops the splintered remains and draws his sword.

female Human Fighter 2

"Onwards the VonFalkenburgs!"

Having run out of improvised weapons, Kallista looks around the crowd. "Can someone lend me a sword? I see someone in need of a lesson in manners."

Male Halfling Fighter3

Percival shakes his head, then makes a foolhardy decision.

"Fetch Silkwind and my accoutrements. I shall face the knave if he survives the others. But I hope that is not necessary for I have never done this for real."

He puts down his drink and the platter with the last untouched mince pie.

Male Human Fighter (3)

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Kornelius laughs at Kargan, who is covered with eggnog, but when Kargan takes another swing of his sword, he stops laughing and takes a swing of his sword.

That was Kornelius' Round 4 attack.

"They're very good at this," says Lord Kerrigan to Falcon. "Very tightly choreographed. And the bit with the eggnog! Wonderful theatre."

Lord Kerrigan cheerfully tosses his sword through the air to Kallista of the Blinding Eggnog.

+1 sword

Round 5:
Kargan
Kallista -- has a sword now
Manfred -- turning his mount (should have got 'Ride-by attack')
Kornelius

Kargan grins at his brother's lousy swing and brings his battleaxe up, around, and down hard.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 271d8 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (2, 1) = 7

You are so unbelievably lucky, Kornelius. Kornelius now has 8 hp I believe. Most of the damage was non-lethal from the joust but 7 hp damage is lethal.

female Human Fighter 2

A deep curtsey and wide smile reward Sir Kerrigan as Kallista gracefully catches the blade by the hilt. She considers her options and moves protectively towards Kornelius.

"I hope you won't take some assistance amiss? I'm a bit unversed in the knightly code, but he looks as if he's breaking most of it."

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 - readied attack on Kargan if he tries to trample Kornelius again.

Spoiler:
She's rolling hot. Maybe I should play her again.

1d20+5 - readied attack on Kargan if he tries to trample Kornelius again. ** spoiler omitted **

[ooc]Oops. Should be an attempt to unhorse the git. Say I'm trying to cut through a stirrup leather. That should send him crashing.

Male Human Fighter (2)

Kornelius, grunts in pain but nevertheless swings back.

"Lord Kerrigan! Please call in one of your finest clerics! We need their magic touch!"

Round 5 attack.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
1d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Kallista slices into the saddle straps (and the horse wearing the saddle) and Kornelius bashes Kargan's platemail so badly it bites into the leg beneath it.

Kargan must make a DC 20 handle animal check to keep the horse from rearing and a DC 15 Ride check to keep from falling from his saddle.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 161d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

EDIT: his horse rears and Kargan is going to spend this round getting his horse under control. He hasn't fallen yet, surprisingly.

Round 6:
Kargan -- busy playing horsee
Kallista
Manfred
Kornelius

psst. You mean round 6, right?

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg wrote:

S'what I said. ;-)

Male Halfling Fighter3

I say, magick!

female Human Fighter 2

What sort of roll to pull at his leg to get Kargan off his horse?

"You're nothing but a big bully. You belong on the ground. How come your brother's such a twerp Korney?"

It might make more sense to delay in case Manny and Kornelius between them can unhorse him. Then she'll just try and knock him out. Big git.

Kallista Nonborn wrote:

Grapple opposed by a ride check instead of CMD?

Since Manfred has already posted his round 6 action, I guess you guys are actually waiting for me. Sorry.

Manfred hits Kargan with a wooden practice lance. Trying to remain on his horse with a saddle strap cut is going to be very difficult.

Impossible for Kargan, I think ... the DC should be about 25. Ride check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Male Human Cavalier 4

Kargan falls to the ground.

Ride check to avoid fall damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

"Ooof!" says Kargan, winded but not unconscious. He recovers his feet rather quickly as his horse trots on.

Male Human Cavalier L1-- AC 18-(T10-F18) | hp 13/13| F4, R0, W2 | Init+0 | Percep +0 | Status: OK

Round 7

Sir Manfred reigns Trouble in to a stop about 40 feet from Kargan, drops the splintered lance, and dismounts.

female Human Fighter 2

"If there's one thing I hate more than an unpaid bar tab, it's a cheat and a coward," remarks Kallista as Kargan crashes to the ground.

"I'm sorry I had to hurt the horse, but he deserves anything he gets."

If she can move to flank with Kornelius or Manny, she will. Then she'll clock Kargon on the bonce with the hilt of Sir Kerrigan's sword.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23, on hit 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 non-lethal damage.

Male Halfling Fighter3

Percival stops mounting his horse when Kargan and falls and the noble returns to before the stand clapping at every good blow.

"Well played madam, the pommel no less."

Male Human Cavalier 4

I believe Kargan has 16 hp left.

Kargan takes a knock to the back of the head from Kallista's sword. (remember -4 for trying to do non-lethal damage and +2 for flanking). He raises his battleaxe and swings at his brother with a blow that is clearly not playacting.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 171d8 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (3, 4) = 14

Kornelius takes the brunt of the axe, his armor bites so hard into his shoulder that blood pours out.

Medic!

female Human Fighter 2

"Sir Manfred! Let us teach this rogue a lesson he will not forget."

Abandoning all attempts at sweet reason, Kallista holds her flanking position and urges Manny to join her in demolishing Kargan.

We can always try and revive him later. Otherwise it does put a blight on the party.

Male Human Cavalier L1-- AC 18-(T10-F18) | hp 13/13| F4, R0, W2 | Init+0 | Percep +0 | Status: OK

"Together then Lady Kallista!"

Sir Manfred moves up to face Kargan, interposing between Kargan and Kornelius if he can. But he does not move to flank and won't take advantage if someone flanks with him.
To Kargan he only says; "You are finished in this tournament, Knave."

Longsword attack:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Longsword damage if hit:
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

female Human Fighter 2

Kallista has no scruples about using any advantage she can find particularly as she's only capable of hitting at +5 without a flank .

"Indeed, Sir Knight, I do believe it is time for his curtain call."

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23, which ought to hit based on previous rolls. Doing 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 damage.

Spoiler:
This girl rocks the block. She's an utter softie though and hates killing things. Any second now I just know she's going to start feeling sorry for Kargan.

Male Halfling Fighter3

Seeing the danger to Kornelius, Percival grabs his morningstar and runs over sans armour to help protect the warrior a little.

Aid another to increase Kornelius AC by two, 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

"Knave, indeed, my Lord Manfred. Knave I doth say again! But he moves like a greased rat."

You take the look of concern in Kargan's face for regret for what he's done until he lashes out at you. Manfred and Kallista strike Kargan from the front and back as he whirls, trying to defend himself now that Kornelius is down. Kargan falls.

The priest, Father Soojung, is kneeling at Kornelius' side. He puts a hand on Percival's shoulder, "He'll be fine."

female Human Fighter 2

"I'm so sorry if I violated your code Sir Manfred," apologises Kallista, before turning to Lord Kerrigan.

"If your priests could tend to Kornelius's brother too?"

Then she moves gracefully towards him and formally returns the sword he loaned her.

Male Human Cavalier L1-- AC 18-(T10-F18) | hp 13/13| F4, R0, W2 | Init+0 | Percep +0 | Status: OK

Sir Manfred stands watch over Kargan, just in case he is shamming.

"There is no need to apologize, Lady Kallista. The knave is hardly worth the consideration."

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg wrote:

Unless I missed the damage count, he's not shamming.

Male Human Cavalier L1-- AC 18-(T10-F18) | hp 13/13| F4, R0, W2 | Init+0 | Percep +0 | Status: OK

Well then, if the tournament medics can't help, Sir Manfred will try a first aid on Kargan.

Heal check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg wrote:

Heal check: 1d20+3

Manfred manages to stop the bleeding. Kargan will be fine.

Kornelius recovers quickly thanks to the magical healing provided by Father Soojong, a follower of Irori.

Male Human 3rd Fighter

Lord Kerrigan approaches the site of the skirmish, a few guards behind him. The guards begin to carry Kargan off.

Kerrigan addresses Manfred, Percival, Kallista, and Kornelius, "We'll keep him under lock and key tonight and then decide what to do with him in the morning. That last little match came as quite a surprise."

Male Human Fighter (3)

Kornelius, relieved, says, "I cannot express my thanks to all of you. I could be a dead man if it wasn't for you! As for the joust, I thank all participants for the great show. And Kargan, put as many guards as possible around the tower. He will try to escape."

Male Human Cavalier L1-- AC 18-(T10-F18) | hp 13/13| F4, R0, W2 | Init+0 | Percep +0 | Status: OK

Sir Manfred bows to Lord Kerrigan. "It was of course my honor to compete with all of you." He turns to Sir Kornelius. "I hope you can fill us all in on just who that was; you appear to know him. Or he appears to know you."

female Human Fighter 2

"Didn't you say he was your brother, Kornelius? That's a nasty family feud you have there. I'd sort it out if I were you."

Male Human Fighter (3)

To Manfred he says, "He is indeed my older brother. I don't know what made him to be like this, but..." Kornelius ends his sentence suddenly and solemnly.

To Kallista "I cannot count how many times I've tried to stop him, but older brothers are older brothers. I cannot stop him."

female Human Fighter 2

"I knew a couple of brothers back at the Happy Cow. The younger one always beat the older. He got bitter about that. It didn't end well."

Male Human 3rd Fighter

Lord Kerrigan turns to the guests and guards from the keep, and in his deep booming voice recites:

And, my loyal friends, so ends our second day
of martial combat both real and for play
a day of strangers joined by sense of right
and of brother against brother in unfair fight.

I warmly thank this bold and chivalrous band
who for our amusement took lance in hand
and demonstrated for us a rough and manly art
in which our guards training is about to start.

So that when next the Belkzen hordes head west
choosing our keep for their first conquest
we will know how to fend off those vile orcish dogs
Aye! -- with a mighty arsenal of thick egg nog.

female Human Fighter 2

"Why, Lord Kerrigan! You are a poet as well as a warleader and courteous knight."

Male Human Cavalier L1-- AC 18-(T10-F18) | hp 13/13| F4, R0, W2 | Init+0 | Percep +0 | Status: OK

Sir Manfred gives Lord Kerrigan a standing ovation.

Male Halfling Fighter3

Percival joins in the ovation, clapping as loudly as a halfling can. He looks around to see what has happened to the food and drinks.

"So tomorrow, my Lord? Day three?"

The contest as such is over with Kornelius, oddly enough, being the winner only because his brother's sulkiness gave him a second chance to advance. The real winners, of course, are those noble knights who earned the admiration of the keep by coming to Kornelius' aid.

If anyone wants to playtest cavaliers, this thread would be a good place to do it but we don't need to do it as a tournament.

female Human Fighter 2

Thank you for letting Kallista gatecrash.
