Ref Lariel, Vasaam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Everyone, save for Caroline, manage to find support to prevent them from falling.
Nl Caroline: 1d3 ⇒ 2, Caroline slips, and hits a piece of stone. As she lays there on her back, she alone sees something on the ceiling.
It is faint, but it is as if the shadows cast on the ceiling, bend to allow two eye shaped areas to appear. As you try to focus, they seem to blink, the irises seemingly going over everyone, before the shadows become their natural selves again.
Lariel Harp |
Lariel looks at Vasaam meaningfully and says "Thank you. And yes, I believe we'll be able to do some good here." Quickly, to avoid any uncomfortable silences, he asks "So, what do you think of the Crimson Armada? Many think they are a necessary evil, but I keep thinking is any evil necessary?"
Vasaam Cathan |
"The Crimson Armada?...." He looks down and shakes his head slightly. "I barely know enough about them for an informed opinion. But it seems strange to me that such a force is needed for anything good. Supposedly they sink any ship that might be competition for them? How is that good? Maybe we'll get a guild job some day to go check them out. Ask me again if that ever happens."
"I wonder how the ladies are doing. We didn't specify an amount of time that they'd take or a signal if they wanted us to join them. I guess the latter would be a loud sound, battle perhaps?"
Mary Dawnrose |
Ready for combat, get up quickly!
Aletha has her Bardiche out.
How far away from us are the enemies?
Some distance requiring descent. From the lookout holes you were at just now, they were 50ft lower than your position.
Recovering from the slick in this curve in the path, Caroline gets up and the party moves further in. The sound of dripping water becomes clearer.
Carefully descending, choosing your steps carefully, you come upon a point where you can see the fishmen, and two routes towards their position.
Up ahead, is a 10ft gap, its walking boards broken. Only a foot wide remains of it. You could try to be stealthy and traverse the narrow wood (DC 15 acrobatics) and get closer to them to start a fight.
Or a safer route just walking down a slope, but that would draw attention and start a fight at a greater distance.
Coraline Sealen |
" Something seems to be watching us... but did not attack while I was down. I think perhaps we bring the boys with us on this, we know there are enemies here. Be wise to fight them all together, or perhaps lure them this way... and maybe they can see what we do in those shadows."
Lariel Harp |
Lariel doesn't know what to think of Vasaam's response, maybe he's deflecting, maybe he actually never thought about it. He says "Sure, sure... Let me check something, I learned of a trick that may help."
He proceeds to put his elongated ear to the floor and motions for Vasaam to make little noise.
I don't know if this would help, but I'll roll Perception anyway and you (GM) decide if it's useful and/or if you need to add any modifiers.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Vasaam Cathan |
Vasaam has a puzzled look at Leona's words as well. "We'll have to bring the light so we can see. Did you find the missing people?"
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Aletha Verkossian |
Do you and these Sahuaguain share a language? We can try to talk before we attack, but I expect them to be hostile. The reason is simple, the villagers did not know about them, which to me implies they likely killed or captured anyone they came accross.
Vasaam Cathan |
"I speak Aquan. Coraline probably does as well. But sahuagin are intelligent so they might speak common. ??"
Aletha Verkossian |
So, instant attack?
Aletha seeks to get into position, drawing a Pilum in her right while holding her bardiche in the left.
I think we will get split if some try to navigate the board and others dont, lets hit them together and in full force.
Vasaam Cathan |
"Be ready with ranged weapons and see what they do when they see our light? I wouldn't want to cross the board while trying to dodge or fight."
Coraline Sealen |
I have no idea how to do the small text thingies
" Sahuagin can speak as far as I know. But it is similar to talking to a rock, and the rock will not stab you or eat your insides while your family watches. If evil had a face, they would be Sahuagin."
She clearly did not like these creatures, and was purely not murdering them now due to her companions clear restraint.
Aletha Verkossian |
[*smaller*][/*smaller*] and remove all the *
Very well, let our projectiles do the talking then, Lariel can you fire when I do? You range is much greater.
Aletha will try to sneak within 40ish feet of the enemies (-4 on their perception checks, worth a try), throw a Pilum and then take her Bardiche in both hands.
Ideally, she would try to snychronize her throw with Lariels ranged attack.
sneak: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
attack Pilum: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 2 = 19 likely a -2 for range increments
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Lariel Harp |
Coraline, there's a spoiler below the text box that reads "How to format your text" with all the possibilities.
Lariel is a bit surprised that the others are so quick to attack, but he figures the girls have more context on the situation. He whispers "I am a good marksman, but I still need some light to shoot."
Shoot with Deadly aim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Piercing damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Miss chance if concealment (low is good): 1d100 ⇒ 99
Mary Dawnrose |
As the rest of the group is yet undecided what is the best route to take, Aletha sneaks off to try and get the jump on the sahuagin.
#1 "We must find something to cheer up the mistress."
#2 "Valuables, sacrifices, must find something."
To see if you get within 40ft or they notice you earlier.
Perception sahuagin: 2d20 + 6 ⇒ (20, 7) + 6 = 33
Both of them notice you, the first one apparently so much on alert, that he aims his crossbow at you as you have walked no more than 10ft down the slope.
"A surfacer, take her prisoner to present to the mistress!"

Aletha: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Aletha Verkossian |
They said what about my mother?
Aletha inquires merrily, showing her own teeth to the Sahuagin.
Oi, sharkface, the f!!* are you talking about? Cant you speak some semi-civilized language like f*~$en angel-chickenspeak or infernal emo-speak? Because you probably cant speak proper Abyssal roight?
Greetings Scion of the seas? Does thee perhaps speak a extraplanar trading tounge like Celestial or infernal, as thee aret unlikely to speak in the language of longing?
Vasaam Cathan |
Hearing whatever Aletha was growling Vasaam holds up the staff to see better. "Uh Oh. I'm going to try and talk to them."

** spoiler omitted **
To the men, it is dark down there without someone shedding a light down there, at the moment you do not see if they hold weapons.
Vasaam Cathan |
Sorry. Wasn't sure of the distance. Everybody ignore that post please.
Mary Dawnrose |
Leona looks for a few stones to put into her sling as she moves stealthily to a higher position.
[dice=stealth]1d20+7
The team starts on the higher ground in the top left. The thin line going east is the slope.
Vasaam Cathan |
Vasaam considers Lariel's question. "Transmutation like that would be very powerful magic, or curse. Highly unlikely."
Mary Dawnrose |
Free interpretation, with much being done is talking.
Caroline moves down the slope, with a double move.
Vasaam and Lariel speak their minds on the implications of the sahuagin being here, not yet taking actions.
Leona looks for some stones to use as ammunition.1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 ready for grabs.
Aletha speaks some profanities in Abyssal.
The sahuagin aim their crossbows at the approaching Caroline.
2d20 + 3 ⇒ (1, 2) + 3 = 6Piercing: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7, and she sees the bolts bounce off the rock wall some 5ft away from her.

Unable to see the attack Vasaam waits for Leona to advance, then follows.
Delay, then follow.
Lariel Harp |
Lariel is a bit annoyed with the darkness. He makes a mental note to bring a torch next time. He knocks an arrow and says "Girls, now would be a good time to create some light!".
Ready action: If a light turns on, shoot at the fishdude that the girls are targetting.
Attack with Deadly aim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Mary Dawnrose |
I've added the light spell radius. normal light is yellow, low light radius is orange.
Caroline does a Jojo battle cry and jabs the sahuagin for a solid 10 hurt. 10 dmg to yellow.
Leona spins the stone in her sling This reduces damage die and attack rolls by -1.
The stone flies just past the 2nd sahuagin's head.
A 2nd storming adventurer, Aletha's jab misses, as she hits her toe at the last step on an uneven spot in the ground.
Vasaam carefully moves south, now shining some light upon the battlefield. Which Lariel takes advantage of, even if the shot misses its target.
Frenzy?: 1d2 ⇒ 1 No.
The yellow sahuagin, steps 5ft away, reloads and aims at Caroline.
Orange takes aim at Lathela.
Yellow vs Caroline, PBS: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 = 24Dmg, PBS: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Orange vs Aletha, PBS: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 1 = 21Dmg, PBS: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Crit yellow?: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 1 = 22Dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9Confirmed.
Yellow's bolt is very accurate, the impact sharp enough to put Caroline unconscious. at -1, con roll to stabilize please.
Aletha catches a bolt in her flank.

Vasaam sees Caroline drop and continues down. Before he gets to her he sees the enemy and casts a spell at the one in back of Caroline.
Ranged touch attack, Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
damage if that hits?: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Aletha Verkossian |
8/12 hp, current ac 17/15/12 due to know having the buckler active
Caroline?!?
Alethas eyes turn black as a rage swells within her, dropping her bardiche, she draws her falcata.
Free action drop Bardiche
Move action draw Falcata
5 foot step to left Sahuaguain, added an arrow to indicate from where to where, which is important for adjuciating something.
Falcata: 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 1 + 3 = 21
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Aletha scores a massive blow!
Krov sa Krov, Smert sa Smert
Blood for blood, death for death
Aletha will parry and riposte as much as she can while keeping one Panache up.
First attack
parry: 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 3 = 23
Riposte: 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 1 + 3 = 14
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Second attack
parry: 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 3 = 8
Riposte: 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 1 + 3 = 20
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
So, if the 2 Sahuaguain are where they are, and I am where I am, then they are within 10 feet of me and thus within my reach.
Meaning I get to AoO them. However, mathematically speaking I did charge them with a reach weapon, so they know my reach and can avoid me.
If I do get AoOs here they are:
AoO Bardiche: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
AoO Bardiche: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Mary Dawnrose |
Despite Aletha's previous position, Vasaam's aim is good enough to hit the fishman with his frost ray.
Leona wakes up Caroline with 7 HP.
Lariel
Aletha will hit the sahuagin for 11.
