This show just started in Australia (I've seen the first two episodes) and I'm really enjoying it. It has a very comic book feel, but not spiderman-comic, more like hip modern horror comic.
The scene in the first episode where the Vegas lady wakes up and the guys are dismembered all over the floor looked just like a panel from Neil Gaiman's Sandman. It's shaping up to be a great show, I hope they can keep it together.

Yeah, it looks good - but so far I've managed to miss the first half of both episodes! So...
....spoilers for those who haven't seen it....
in last nights episode, who was the woman that the Indian guy was talking to? And was anything revealed about the killer in the first half of the episode? (I saw the second half, so i know he likes to remove people's brains, he's apparently very strong, he can freeze people, and he apparently had a conversation with the dead professor).
But yeah, I think this show does the superhero idea in a very fresh way, one we havent really seen on tv before, I'm really looking forward ot it being good!

Sorry I forgot to warn for spoilers!

The girl the Indian dude (I think his name's Suresh?) was talking to is the professor's neighbour and apparently his only friend. She walked in on Suresh wrestling with a guy dressed as an exterminator who was searching the prof's house for something. The guy got away and they got talking.
Nothing about the killer in the first half. The cheerleader's dad seems kind of suss, I don't know if you saw that bit. There's definitely some sort of conspiracy involving him, the killer and the other heroes.

Have you read Watchmen by Alan Moore? See if you can get your hands on it if you haven't, it was pretty much the first graphic novel to take superheroes out of the fantasy gotham city/metropolis type world and imagine what it would be like if people with powers existed in real life. Very dark and cool, especially for the 80s.
Mothman |
No, I don't know it - I'll try to get my hands on it though.
Yeah, I picked that up about the cheerleader'd dad, and wasn't he the same guy who was in the taxi with Suresh in the first episode? So I'm guessing he's someone who's trying to supress / kill / control the mutants - sorry, heroes!
Thanks for the update - must try to watch the whole ep next week.

Well... if you want to catch up, NBC.com has the first episode and episodes 10-14 available to watch on their website.
Episodes 2-9 aren't there yet, though, so you may want to be careful were you look on that page so you don't get spoilers from the rest of the season.

Last nights episode was awesome! There was so much stuff going on and now it's like Fifty-Two Card Pick-Up. Everything has been scattered, revealed, connected, blown-up, chaotic. Exciting!
I wonder what will become of our heroes now? It was kind of nice that they focused on one "location" for this episode, but I don't want it to happen too often, unless all the heroes are in one place of course. I was still constantly wondering about Nikki/Jessica and her new job, about the love triangle, and when Hiro will be actually doing something!
the last few episodes have been really good. I hope they keep it up!

Agreed, last night's episode was really great. One of the things that blew me away was the flash-back with Hiro's father ordering Mr. Bennet to adopt Claire. Holy crapcakes! And they were on the roof of the building owned by Simone's father. Was he involved to? I get the feeling that he was a wealthy man. Maybe it isn't a coincidence that Peter was his nurse in the first episode, or that his daughter was dating a "special" painter. Hmmm....

I believe the current theory is that Simone's father is part of the "company". Although I would have to say that because of Claude's feelings towards him, he was probably sympathetic to the "specials".

Episode 7 was just screened in Australia last night. It's the episode where Hiro saves DL from the exploding car, the "Radiation Man" is introduced and Peter's patient dies (can't remember his name). It's a great show. It definitely feels like a live-action comic to me.
The hard part is not going on the Internet and reading all the spoilers!

Yeah, I thought last night's ep was really cool.
I missed a bit though, I didnt really get what put them onto the radiation guy - and was there a connection with Cylar (probably got the spelling totally wrong!) ?
It was a little hard to follow I thought, but there was a murder of someone who seemed to have been charred by radiation, and the FBI agent had a hunch that it was Syler (may as well use all the different spellings we can ;)) and they found a fingerprint burned into the bone of the corpse. It was radiation guy's fingerprint.
Is it just me or is Nikki's power kind of lame? She's just like someone with multiple personality disorder who is a bit stronger than a normal person when she's got her evil twin thing going. No where near as cool as oh, say, TIME TRAVEL.
Mothman |
Thanks Kahoolin. Sorry I keep asking "what happened?", I'll try to pay closer attention in the future!
Yep, time travel (not to mention freezing time, teleporting etc) is pretty damn cool. But note when Hiro said he wishes he had super strength too? And when the senior Petrelli brother made a comment about being unable to fight crime cos he didnt have super strength or anything either? And Nikki's got that ...
And when she picked up her husband last week and hurled him across the room and through a wall, I'd say that's some serious strength she's got there!
Heh. I wonder if the other personality is part of her "power" too, or if does just happen to be a superhero with multiple personality disorder...
Actually i think the other personality might actually be a twin - maybe she had a twin who died young or something...

It's good to see so many fellow Aussies on this website. Heroes is a really good show. Aside from its special effects it has everything which a "hero" movie like Ghostrider lacked. Good acting, a complex storyline, etc. I just hope it doesn't drag on too much like Lost.
Amen to that. The average of one new hero per episode is starting to make me feel like they should stop introducing new people and move the story forward a little...
I hate Lost. Every season is exactly the same yet slightly different. Yeah yeah there's a huge mystery, who cares? It just seems like one of those horrible jokes that goes nowhere.
Laeknir |
I have this horrible feeling that it'll end in a bizarre and massive plot-tangling, like Twin Peaks. After all the interesting subplots and new characters popping up, please let the writers spare us another ending like that. The Lost series is clearly going that way... development forever, then *bam* crazy wrap-up in 15 min.
Aberzombie |
Does anyone else check out the online graphic novels on the shows homepage? Since the last new episode they've been running a multipart story with a look back at a hero's past.
Just go to nbc.com/heroes if you haven't already.
The story also shows that Linderman has the power to heal others.

Just a couple more weeks and I will start losing sleep again Monday nights.

I was a little disappointed with the season finale.
I don't think they did a good enough job explaining why Peter went nuclear. Although I get why he didn't fly himself up - they've hinted that he can only use one power at a time, not two at once.
And why didn't Sylar stop Hiro from stabbing him. He prevented Matt from shooting him while chocking Peter. He should have been able to stop a sword if he wanted to. Unless, of course, he thought it was necessary to get Peter to blow up.
I hope they didn't kill off Nathan. Even though he was sometimes and ass, his good side kept winning through and he would always end up doing what was right.
I'm not sure how I fell about the possibility of Sylar surviving. As a villain he had lots of potential, but there was enough of him in this season. If we don't see him at all next season I'll be happy.
Besides, I'm interested in seeing who this "worse than Sylar" person is that Molly hinted at.
I also hope they don't decide to kill of Peter. He quickly became my favorite character. I wonder - now that he has been around Niki, will he have her power as well.
Speaking of Niki - seeing her give Sylar a good whack was awesome. Seeing Peter start to beat the crap out of Sylar afterwards was even better.
All in all, I can't wait for season 2.
Dragonmann |
It is impossible to write a good finale using every member of an ensemble cast that runs in a 42 minute slot...
Should have been scheduled as a 2 hour event
He got very angry at Sylar, and Sylar was provoking him...
And Ted had the slight problem of getting HOT when angry...
And Sylar knew that...
A little love, or at least some serenity, he might have gotten it under control.

I agree. looking forward to season 2. I'm dying for the Generations Eps first though.
On the later episodes and the finale...[Don't read this if you are waiting for FTA elsewhere in the world behind the US screenings]
As for season 2, I think Peter will definitely survive, but won't be back until the later parts of season 2, they need his visions to lead them on. Nathan may or may not be dead, he strikes me as a survior type. Sylar should take a few weeks of season 2 to recuperate, but will be back. Remember, he might not be completely mad. He still seemed to have a fragment of humanity leaft in him in Ep 22. You can see why he is so screwed up though.
I think Uluru is possibly the big nasty, but who is Uluru? Is he an Aussie [will we see a return of Mark Jackson to US TV? :( I hope not!], is it Peter, or someone else? Uluru might also be a hero.
I have to say I am very happy to see the art of Jason Badower in some of the online comics. For a long time Jason worked doing art for hire at local RPG conventions in Melbourne, he's come a long way and should go a lot further. You'll notice his self-portrait in a nightclube scene with Hana Gitelman in comic #33.
A few things I'd like to see are a heroes of Arabic, Hispanic, Inuit or Polynesian descent.

I loved it. I've been really angry with Nathan and he always seems to redeem himself. I think he's dead, though. Unless he threw Peter in space or something...
Nicki hitting Sylar! YES!
Sylar knew he was going to die, or at least get taken to negative hp, so he tried to sow as much chaos and damage as possible before hand. But he's coming back. I knows it. He's too crazy and sexy to die so easily.
Heroes Origins (or is it Generations?) will be awesome. I love this show.

I thought that was how he went from sappy Peter to punching powerhouse Peter. She was only in the neighborhood for a moment but that seemed to be enough for him to get a lot stronger.

I saw the first couple of episodes of this (as a double bill) on the BBC a few night ago. Quite a lot of hype ("the acclaimed series, Heroes") and, you know what, I actually found it quite boring. If they hadn't shown the two episodes back-to-back I doubt I would have bothered with no. 2, which in the final two minutes at last did something vaguely interesting (blowing up New York).
It might be me and my attention span (or lack thereof) but is it going to carry on in this rather tedious fashion? (OK, the cheerleader and the stripper liven things up slightly, but its not enough - I'm too old to watch a series just for that now.)

Heroes, like Lost, has good and bad episodes. Near the end of season one, you can tell they added a few episodes, because it kind of gets drug out. And then, it takes a side trip to Wisconsin to get some cheese for the final episode.
It's a good series, but some episodes truly suck, especially when they try to show you a little bit of everyone. It's interesting to see how they're all tied together though, especially when you read through the accompanying graphic novels.

Hmm. If blowing up a major city only ranks as "vaguely interesting" in your book, could it be that you are just hard to impress? Maybe you've set the bar a bit high? Or maybe the programming on the BBC is more interesting than I had believed...
I don't specifically recall episodes 1 and 2, but I will say that Heroes is a great television series. In fact, I'd probably say it is the second best television show ever. Maybe you should give it another episode or two to see if it catches your interest. I don't think you'll regret it.

Huzzah! Heroes is back. Season 2 started just this past Monday, and they are already starting to build up some new questions.
What happened to the Hatian?
How did Nathan survive the blast?
What is up with Peter?
Who killed Daddy Nakamura, and when will the work their way around to Momma Petrelli?
Who is the guy "worse than Sylar"?
There was an interesting nod to the X-men as well...
YeuxAndI |
According to several interviews with Tim Kring, this season will focus more on specific stories instead of over arching season long plots. That being said, I don't think we'll be seeing Super Mommy and Family anytime soon.
What's up with that blast out of Peter's hand?
Why does Claire always get stuck with the creepy guy?
