Removed a series of posts debating the merit of reviews (in general), and the escalated posts that followed. If you'd like to discuss what constitutes a good or valuable review, individual product discussion threads are not the appropriate place to do so. Additionally, while there is some reprinted material, the overall discussion of any reprinted material in volumes published by Paizo does not belong in individual product discussion threads either. Derailing discussion threads with past drama, personal attacks, and generally negative commentary towards other participants in the conversation is uncalled for as well, including when it is a reactionary response to an inflammatory remark. This thread is solely about the Pathfinder RPG Adventurer's Guide as a product, let's keep it that way. Thanks!

This NPC bio from the Al-Zabriti section is pretty odd:
The chieftain of the Tiferi tribe, Jahin al-Vasti, is young to hold his position, and he is careful to appear coolheaded and considered. He took over from his mother when she suddenly went blind,
What tribal leader can't afford the services of a 5th level cleric? Unless her eyes suddenly fell out of her head this is a non-issue.

Does Cure Blindness/Deafness work on genetic blindness? She could also be cursed.

For those that like the Sun's Disdain spell, notice the big overlap with Fear the Sun and is the same level and PFS legal. Sun's Disdain is single target and touch, Fear the Sun is medium range and multiple targets. Will vs. Fort save and susceptibility to sunlight spells are the only reason to take Sun's Disdain.

It cures all blindness not caused by removal of the eyes. It does cure physical damage to the eyes, and all magical and nonmagical types of blindness.
Curses can be lifted, but that can be harder. Yeah, I guess you could spin it as an adventure hook.

Respectfully disagree with this. If the thread is about the Adventurer's Guide as a product, it's on-topic to disclose that reprints are part of the product.
As the discussions here have shown (in better or worse ways), reprinted material is a very significant data point for a fair number of potential buyers.

Seconded on both posts. While the reprints did not bother me. I would rather they be mentioned in both a review and a topic about the product. Depending on the consumer some like or dislike reprints. It's something they should be told about. Espcially by other consumers who bought the product.

Yup.
Given that we've cited sudden blindness as a sign of Sarenrae's displeasure in most of her writeups, I'd say you should assume it's not natural or something that can be cured by a simple spell--especially given that in a culture where you get kicked out if you don't worship Sarenrae, the only clerics around are drawing their power from the being that caused the blindness.
But this is a brief adventure hook, so of course take it in whatever direction works best for whatever you're doing in your game.

I believes she didn't mean we can't discuss reprints in this particular product, she doesn't want to to carry on a war about Paizo's overall reprint history and policy in this thread.

Ooo I didn't know that about Sarenrae. Cool...

Sun's Disdain is also permanent.

Strict wordcount means we can't always reprint context, unfortunately. :-)

Just saw this one in my local bookstore and I love the section on the Aldori, even if they can be hard to use outside of campaigns centered in and around Brevoy or the Northeastern River Kingdoms. I did enjoy the few details we got on Brevoy and how the Swordlords are handling the political skullduggery of KIng Noleski Surtova.
Though it could be fun running a character who has the basics of the Aldori style but seeks to visit Restov for 'real training', only to end up in the middle of the fighting between the various schools.
One question: are the fighter-archetype Aldori Swordlords limited to light armor proficiency? I always thought they were, and they seem to be described as such here -- but at the same time the Armor Master's Handbook has the medium Aldori dueling armor. I know it's nothing of major importance but that one item always felt a bit odd to me.

Can someone describe the options for the Sister in Arms Cavalier archetype and attendant Order? I'm always on the lookout for a good mountless soldier style.
As they advance, sisters-in-arms gain bodyguard abilities (which synergize well with one of their orders), become resistant to effects that would make them betray allies, and can use their order abilities faster and more often.
If you've ever wanted to be a purely martial "commander", this is the archetype for you. ^_^

Thanks Isabelle! As you can see I made one a while back but it wasn't quite what I was looking for.
I'm not really looking for DPS, more a sergeant at arms type. I may just have to *GASP* get this book. ('.')

There's what seems to be a minor typo on the mammoth rider prc, it lists dire polar bear as a steed option instead of normal polar bear.
It also lists wolly rhinoceros, which isn't a creature, and I assume is just Paizo giving "permission" to say that your rhinoceros has fur on it, similar to how the mastodon and wooly mammoth are both just reskinned elephants?

Woolly Rhinoceros is indeed a monster, from Bestiary 1.

Not to mention from Earth history, as were the mastodon and the wooly mammoth. As for "reskinned", I don't know about that. The wooly rhino, though, was similar in size and weight to the modern white rhino, so I wouldn't call the wooly a "reskinned" white.

Many of the Al-Zabriti feats, such as Improved Mounted Archery, Mounted Blade, and Mounted Onslaught are not listed as Combat feats. Surely this is a mistake?
I guess so. Given that not a single feat of this section is listed as combat, it's likely an oversight.
Two of them are reprints: Mounted Onslaught was a combat feat in Cities of Golarion, that could be used when negotiating with a GM. Mounted Blade was a general feat in the first Qadira book, but a combat one in the second - so it's more ambiguous here. Improved Mounted Archery is new.

I was surprised to see the information on the Mammoth Lords in this one. I suppose I never thought of them as being all that popular a group in Pathfinder. I do enjoy the new Hunter archetype that finally gives folks a way to get that Large-size bear animal companion they always wanted.
Very nice chapter on the Red Mantis too. The death slayer feels like it fills a hole I didn't even think of before -- in a world where people really can and do rise as angry undead, how does an assassin make sure their targets stay dead?

Obviously, this isn’t an in-depth review of this book given its release date. This is just my initial impression after skimming through it and reading several sections that caught my eye.
My Viewpoint: I run Pathfinder games that aren’t set in Golarion (I use Frog God Games’ awesome Lost Lands), so I’m used to lifting/scrubbing Golarion-specifics to use content in my Lost Lands campaigns. I frequently do this in with Pathfinder Companions as well as Campaign Setting material that I find useful.
I am not against Paizo removing the separation of rpg rules & Golarion-specific content. I’ve heard both James Jacobs & Eric Mona talk about in the Know Direction podcast how the division between RPG & campaign setting has become less distinct over the years and sometimes creates more trouble than it’s worth. I tend to agree.
First Impressions:
Per Paizo standards, this is a good book full of interesting content & organizations. Affiliation mechanics, archetypes, spells, feats, and items can all be easily modified from Golarion-specific to generic/other setting. However…Despite the parallel James drew in the Know Direction podcast between Villain Codex and Adventurer’s Guide, I don’t think those are the books that should be compared. Yes, using Golarion organizations eliminates the need to create “generic” organizations. However, campaign-specific organizations and prestige classes in particular, are harder to re-skin than feats & archetypes.....
Adventurer’s Guide should have been a Campaign Setting release.
I also play in Lost Lands.
This review exemplifies why I don't want campaign setting in the RPG line. It makes stuff near impossible to use if you're not in Golarian... heck it's even too specific to be useful in most Golarian campaigns from what I'm reading.
It really is easier to reskin something generic as something that belongs in a world than to reskin something hyper-tailored to a specific world.
I won't be buying this book, which is a shame, because I want to support the game. But I don't enjoy Golarian and I don't want to send the signal that I want it crammed into everything. And I can't see it being even remotely useful for me. I don't want to have to redesign material from scratch to fit it in my campaign.
