No problem Mister Hinkle. I'm happy to help.
Awesome. :)
Oh. Well, then, personal preference is what's stopping me. I prefer troops (and swarms and etc.) as being custom-build monsters, not as templates.
Swarms don't lend themselves to templates at all. If you look at how swarms were made in 3.x, you become aware that they shouldn't be templated.

Well, it's official. I no longer need to kill PCs with monsters. I can just drop a stack of a half-dozen bestiaries on their players instead. :P
(Would also work on minis. Players are considerably harder to replace.)
Minis will cause more damage to your book than skulls.
Also, will Szuriel's statblock include stats for Lammy as well?

Since there are nine aligned outer planes and only 5 true dragons in a group it is safe to assume that the dragons will be more flexible in there alignment. Basically I think there alignment might go like this: NG for all good aligned planes, NE for all evil aligned planes, CN for the Maelstrom, LN for Axis, N for the Boneyard. At least that is what I am hoping for anyway;)
The cover is a mockup.
I am really interested in the two headed dragons mentioned, are they a new subspecies, new type from an existing subspecies, a unique creature, a template, or something else.

So, what empyreal lords are you hoping to see?
Me, I'm hoping to see Zohls (I can relate to asocial intellectuals), Olheon (for Kingmaker), Lymnieris (so wonderfully unusual), and Arshea (very obvious reasons).
I'd expect one or more of the more martially-minded / warlike ones, as they'd be more likely to show up to deliver some righteous smiting-of-evil (Ragathiel, Arqueros, Dammerich, Falayna, etc.), and any that might show up to specifically counter a particular sort of threat (such as Black Butterfly showing up to oppose a Great Old One type incursion from the depths of space). Having stats for those would be, IMO, more meaningful than stats for Korada (all about peace and forgiveness), or some other Empyreal who would be less likely to show up for a fight.
I'm pretty excited for this Lovecraft-esque PC race, the yaddithian, and the new constructs / animal companions, etc.

Steven "Troll" O'Neal wrote:My excitement for the Krampus is disproportionate to the presumed number of pages he will take up.There are a couple of 3PP write ups for Krampus (I have one from Rogue Genius Games). I'm sure Paizo's will be different, but it's a fun monster to run against PCs.
Especially when he throws present bombs. :D

The Conqueror Worm is from a poem of the same name written by Edger Alan Po. I am not really sure what direction they will take this one but the worms from Dune come to mind;)
"Strangely sentient oozes" sounds, well strange to me, we have had plenty of oozes that are sentient before.
Any chance of seeing the Gigas make it into a hardcover bestiary?

Poe is very much in my mind when I think of "Conqueror Worm." Dune is nowhere close to it.
No gigas in this book.

The reason's pretty simple—this Bestiary has more two-page monsters than previous ones, either because I wanted the book to have more room exploring unusual monsters or, in part, because we're giving the higher CR monsters more room to fit on their pages.??? This early? Not that I mind!
Only 200 monsters? I hope there aren't many re-entries from AP's and inner sea bestiary then, more new monsters. The only monster from ISB I don't really mind having twice is the whirlmaw.
I'm happy to see Krampus!
Rougarou is nice too, but the other things I read there i'm not a fan of, but that also happend with Bestiary 5, and it turned out they saved the best monsters for last anyway. Can't wait for the cover of this.
Any chance of the rest of the Kaiju making an appearance anytime soon?

The rest? That's a lot. No... not all of them will be appearing anytime soon. Some, perhaps, but not all.

That's not healthy for you.
Let the squeeing out. It wants to be free.

It's a shame there will not be any kami or oni, I was so hoping for reprints for all of them from the Jade Regent AP.
I hope we will finale see reprints of the Skirk Nettle, Dweomer Cat, Blodeuwedd, Stygia, Gare Linnorm, Raiju, Calathgar, Buraq, Hadhayush, Calikang, Aspidochelone, Addu, Gargiya, Tidepool Dragon, Coral Capuchin, and/or Dawn Piper.

The calikang was in the Inner Sea World Guide, and is thus highly unlikely to see a Bestiary reprint. (This is probably also why the strix and gillman haven't appeared in a Bestiary.)
I'd love to see the gare linnorm return - it's up there with the ephialtes kyton and blast shadow for "monsters I'd like to see reprinted". ^_^
Nightterror |
I only want the Skrik Nettle and Raiju from the AP's (oh, and some of the Mummy Mask mythological creatures such as Ammut and Serpopard), I can't believe Raiju didn't appeared in a bestiary yet. How can that be? I'm kinda happy the elemental-giant Oni aren't in this bestiary, though the Nogitsune is cool I guess. (especially with nine-tailed fox art)

"Lovecraftian yaddithian" 0-O ????
Wonder what they are about ???
Amazingly, the wondrous invention called the Internet provides an answer! Uncanny.

Please tell me that there's a troop template :D
A troop template isn't really appropriate, any more than a swarm template is.
"Troop" is a monster subtype, like swarm. Troops work best when, like swarms, they're hand-built as monsters.
I'm hoping to include some advice and tips in the book on how to build your own troops though!
Wouldn't it make more sense to handle them as a build-your-own type creature akin to the animated object or necrograft?
I guess I'm just worried about 'advice and tips'. So far, most attempts at advising players on how to build monsters from scratch have been pretty lacklustre. Hopefully we'll see better this time than another reiteration of 'just compare your end result to other monsters and adjust it if the power seems off'.
