Please accept this profile as my submission for this game. I had previously submitted Baralas, but I did not feel he was unique or special enough so I created Ivy as my submission. Please check her out and I will correct wherever problems might crop up. I hope she has met most, if not all of your requirements.

thankyou
daniel Stewart

p.s. I still have one feat to choose. I wanted to know if the Halfling Slingspear could be used by Ivy without having to take martial or exotic weapons. Also would the spell Shillelagh be useable on a slingstaff (just for the staff part, not the sling).

thanks you.

Stat block:

Woundpoints – Should be 25 (double con score + con mod at lvl 1)

Skill points – please put the number of ranks assigned beside each skill

Feats – As a druid you get one of the bonus feats, please list it when you pick you level 1 feat even if you can’t use it yet.

Backstory – Solid

You can consider you submission complete once you pick your feats. Thanks for the submission

The Halfling sling staff is a martial weapon for halflings that Druids aren’t proficient with so you would have to take martial weapon proficiency to use it.

The shillelagh spell would work on the sling staff when it is used as a club.

Ok, I believe that I have corrected all the errors you have pointed out. I look forward to discovering if I will be chosen. This looks to be a great game!

Gilthanis here, with my submission :)

This is my fault as I did not catch it earlier when I reviewed your character, but there is only one bar/inn in Phaendar at that is the Taproot so the NPC you made, Van Stonehammer, could not be a local bar owner.

Please update his job, he could be a local brewery easily enough. Sorry for missing this earlier.

Updated :)

Hopefully all of that is correct. If its not let me know so I can change it. If all you have beside your name is ‘Posting time, and XP preference’ your character is complete I am just asking what you prefer for those. If you don’t care you don’t need to answer.

A bit of a repeat section here on how I plan to make selections, but its good to be reminded. In the first post I mentioned that I am selecting six players, two of which will be new to PbP. My steps for selection are going to be:

1 – Pick 2 new players, short list up to 4 more (party of 6 possibly)
2 – Shortlist 6 non-new player submissions
3 – Try my damedest to get over my grief of all the good submissions I’ve passed up
4 – Sort out a somewhat balanced party from the shortlisted entries
5 – Tell all of you

Step 3 will be repeated as necessary. Just wanted to let you guys know how its going to work for transparency reasons.

.

Onto item 2, NPC validation (more necessary repeat).

Some of you may have noticed, there is a link at the top left of the page above the campaign tab area title ‘Ironfang Invasion – People’. I would like you all to please check that link out and tell me of any corrections you would like made to the information concerning you various NPCs. I have put a column with the related character to hopefully make it easy to find them.

For the column ‘Prominent Location’ that is the place they are most likely to be found during the Market Festival. Here are descriptions of each:

Market Green:
The Market Green is the “town square” of Phaendar, though it is most definitely not square. Most of the trading during the Market Festival happens here, along with entertainment games and some space left to sit idle and enjoy the going on.

Oreld’s Fine Shop:
Oreld’s Fine shop is the home of the local alchemist and doctor. Many people visit him to get ailments treated, have potions made, and to learn or research in the shop.

Phaendar Trading Company:
The nominal heart of Phaendar, the Phaendar Trading Company has the only forge in town, as well as pens for live stock, raw goods contracts for sale, an odds and ends shop, and host the live stock auction.

Riverwood Shrine:
A decorative wooden building used for worship by all, the Riverwood Shrine stands as a place of healing, spiritual solace, and worship. Inside there is a statue of Erastil and Desna, Phaendar’s two most prominent deities. Out front of the shrine by the road stands a stone shrine and alter to the Green Faith. Many locals, especially the heads of families that farm or reap the bounties of the land, come to pay their respects to their deity and the Green Faith for another bountiful season to come.

Taproot Inn:
The only two story building in town, the Taproot Inn has more space for people than any other building in Phaendar, except the Riverwood Shrine. Many people come here through out the week for food, drink, boisterous tales, and the camaraderie of friends.

Like I said before, let me know if anything needs changing or if you care how blanks are filled in. If I don’t hear anything by the 16th I’ll assume I can fill in as I want and everything is good.

.

Onto item 3, maps (all new content here!)

Some of you may have noticed a new link above by the other links titled ‘Ironfang Invasion – Chernasardo Map’ and ‘Ironfang Invasion – Phaendar Map’. These two maps show the places you’ll likely know of close to Phaendar. The Phaendar map has 5 foot hexes and the Chernasardo map at 2.5 mile hexes.

.

The last item, my time and your time.

I will be going through all submissions submitted before 23:59 on September 10th this week after work, and I guarantee I will get to those. Given the low rate of submissions the last few days, if I have time I will be reviewing characters submitted after the 10th, but given that my entire weekend from the 15th to 17th is booked for activities I may not be able to do so. That being said:

If you want me to review your character before the September 16th submission deadline, submit it before 23:59 September 10th! I will almost certainly be able to get to you by the 16th if you do. If you submit after the 10th I will most likely not review your character until picking a party.

And thank you to all the submissions, there are quite a few more than I expected given my house rules and restrictions.

Indeed, a fair amount of submissions!

Insofar as XP: as you see fit, but I am partial to story points (gm discretion) as i am not a fan of accounting (!)

And for posting: often (at least 1/day)!

XP: don't care. Gm level up is what I am used to

Posting: I am able to post 1/day weekdays. Weekends vary.

NPCs: Looks good. Should we post NPC ages if we haven't already?

XP: I think GM level up/story points may work better to streamline things.

Posting: At least 1/day, usually most active after 3pm.

Thank you for organizing everything so well!

XP: What ever system the DM prefers

Posting: 1+ per day, usually after 8 PM EST

Hello again :)
I have finished the crunch for my Half-Orc survivalist so I will post that up right now, however I am still working on the backstory and other fluffyness.
A quick note about my character. He is basically a squib. And probably not very powerful, offensive-wise. If he is accepted he will not be the one slaying a horde of creatures, or incapatating a foe with a single blow. He will not be the one casting exactly the right spell for the occasion, he will not be the McGyver of the group always showing off his impressive skills. He probably wont be the center of attention either.
What he is, in my mind, is the mundane survivalist. He gets thrust into this world of high magic and great heroics, but in his mind he is only trying to survive, and keep his new allies alive while these great things get thrust on him.
A few questions I have with him are ones like; How would a completley mundane "regular folk" handle in a high stress, high magic realm? Mugwort has a great capacity to endure, can he endure through the hardships that greatness thrusts upon him? Can he protect his allies through all the threats that may befall them, even if all he has to offer is his great heart and tenacity? How much abuse can he endure and still keep going? I really want to find this one out :)

He has a great heart, a fierce spirit and the Tenacity of a troll, will it carry him through the harsh times ahead?

That said, he is a Half-Orc Fighter, and it looks like I have huge compition to get in... We shall see :)

Crunch-wise, a few things of note.
Wounds/Vigor.
Mugwort has 18 Con and 1d10 hit die.
Vigor= 10.
Wounds= 2x Con score (18x2=36) + Con mod (4) +2 for FCB (2) = 42
Wound Threshold= Con score = 18
Correct?
He also has Diehard so he should be able to keep moving after he is below the threshold, however he is staggered and takes 1 wound each turn.
I had the choice of Diehard or Ferocity as they are exactly the same thing. Went with Diehard.
He also has the Fast Healer feat, allowing him to heal an additional 2 wounds each time he heals, so he should be more effective while using his large vitality then most.

And, Survival. Mugwort lives out in the wild in the areas surrounding Phaendar rather then in the town itself (don't worry, I will tie him intrinsically with the town.) so he normally lives off the land.
He has a +8 Survival mod, Endurance, a Cold Weather Outfit and a Survival Kit. He would then live by making temporary shelters and hunting for food. Is this collectively enough to represent (and survive!) living in the wild year-round? He is a hunter so he comes into town to sell goods/buy supplies.

I also got very precise with his gear and equipment, I combined a few kits together and removed the duplicates. It should be accurate but I can re-look over it as needed.

He also has some animal pelts that he has come into town to sell at the festival :p

Heres his crunch.

Posting: Can do at least once day. Usually active between 9am to 9pm EST.

XP: I prefer GM level at appropriate points in the story, but will play any style.

NPCs: They look fine to me. (That list is certainly the size of a village now.)

XP Preference: Milestone levels. Easier than xp tracking.

Posting time: between 9pm and 1 am, but can find posting time in regular morning. Rarely afternoons

NPCs: All is fine as far as I can see.

XP: I like the story method, as it allows the DM to level us as he feels we need it.

Posting: At least 1/day. I am on MST and can usually post a few times each day...weekends might be a bit slower

GM wrote:
leinathan – Ian, Human Eldritch Scrapper Sorcerer – Posting time and XP preference

I can post one to three times each day, though I definitely don't prefer having to do so as often. A few (3-10) posts per day, cumulatively, from everyone in the group is usually enough to keep momentum going.

I personally don't use XP tracking for leveling, because I feel that it's difficult to fairly represent what you should be getting XP from. I prefer leveling at narratively important events or after great accomplishments.

As for what Ian does... Like most level 1 sorcerers, not much. He has color spray for hitting some low-leveled enemies with that strong crowd control. He'll start out doing some pretty good damage around level 3, and will have good face skills, as well as some rogue-ly skills (Sleight of Hand, Stealth, Appraise). He's a charming, light-fingered little kid with some psychic, wind, and fire powers!

I'm excited to see the judgments for this game :) There are a lot of good submissions.

Changed Karoline from ex wife to crush

NPCs: Seems correct. Even if not choosen we have almost a full village

XP: I have seen booth, but for my games I prefer story points.

[b]Posting:[b] I usually post in the morning, in the evening and sometimes at lunch break. Every second Thursday, I am a bit limited in evening posts.

I think Teeton belongs more in the Skilled category as a skald. He is doing melee, but not so well, he can cast spells, but he is not a prime caster. But with versitale performance and bardic Knowledge he is more the skilled one.

NPC'sThey are good I like the levels they have

XPWhich ever you like, I prefer to have level up at the specific points mentioned in the books.

"Posting"I can do multiple times a day but 1/day but more if combat is happening to speed things up.

NPCs: Seems good.
XP: No strong preferences.
Posting: Multiple times a day except for monday where I can usually post just once.

NPCs: Look good.

XP: GM/story leveling might make things a bit simpler, but I'm fine with anything you want to do.

Posting: I can usually post at least once a day, often more. My time zone is a bit odd, though, if that's a problem.

XP : I always like milestone / story for AP's but am good with whatever.

Posting

 • I can normally post multiple times per day between 6am and 9pm EST.
 • Week days, when in my office, I check frequently.
 • Weekends I normally post a few times.

NPC's
Shemus Parker: Edit
Wizard 4
Purpose: Favorite student, has his big spellbook.
Occupation: Adventuring wizard

Lilian Skymore: Edit
Magus 7
Ex-girlfriend who moved on due to aging rate difference (elf vs human).

Jason Cromwell Edit
Wizard 8
Occupation: Last seeing working for some chelxian nobles

Susan Cobbler:

Hermina Ways Never added my last NPC it seems
Expert 2 - Recluse
Occupation: Gathers herbs from the surrounding area for Oreld’s Fine Shope. Lives out a bit and keeps to herself.

XP I tend to prefer leveling at GM discretion a la milestone/story. It tends to make PCs a little less kill-happy and more into roleplay.

PostingI can post multiple times per-day and often at very strange times. I'm a professional actor, so my downtime varies from day-to-day, but I'll always have a significant amount of it on set or in-transit. My time zone is EST, but that will most likely have no bearing on when I post, as you never know when you'll get booked for an overnight shoot!

NPCs All looks good except for "Alaina Sexton" being written as "ALaina Sexton."

Lyrathiel Evensong here. I've (finally!) added her background and ditched the non-prd trait in favour of picking "reckless", giving her acrobatics as a class skill (still, skill selection is a bit tentative as of yet: if picked – and if you allow it, obviously – I might want to adjust it a little bit based on the whole party's strengths and weaknesses).

Took quite a while longer than expected because I kept being dissatisfied with her story and tweaking it as a result (as the change of name and avatar might already imply on its own).

XP: I'm bit old school on this one, leaning slightly towards awarding them on a case-by-case, PC-by-PC basis; but I understand in a PbP the increased bookkeeping it requires might not be worth it after all. All in all, it's not a big deal, nor a strong preference.

Posting: my time zone is UTC+1 and I usually tend to post in the late afternoon – early evening, making it morning to noon for those living in the US. I can post multiple times a day, especially in the case of relatively concise posts which help keep the momentum going (e.g. combat)

NPCs: those would be her husband, her husband's immediate family, her newborn daughter (also the object of her attached trait), and some rivals and friends. I'll try to pick a couple of those from the already long list of Phaendar's inhabitants (if it's okay with their owners!) – figured in such a small village, it would make sense for our social cliques to overlap from time to time (also, this town seems to already have her fair share of barmaids and doctors without me adding a couple more). I'll fill in with the details, names and levels tomorrow morning, as it's already pretty late here...

Hola.

Posting time is daily but the time honestly depends a little on work and my son. If you need a dedicate time each day, I can't give you that, but I can promise to post daily and sometimes more (when warranted and without hogging the spotlight or stealing decision-making opportunities or agency from other characters). Very rarely will I be able to post less than daily, in which case I will let you know.

I have a slight preference for doing xp based on milestones and when the GM thinks it's appropriate, but I can go with anything.

NPCs look fine to me.

Congrats on all the submissions. It'll be a lot of hand-wringing and guilt as you make your choices, but you'll have a great campaign on your hands. Good luck to all.

I made a couple of minor math edits - mostly just adjusting my Dex-based skills because of an ability score adjustment.

Right? The main difference is you get to write all aspects of your character, too!

NPCs All fine, though you still have Leeka's NPCs on the list.

XP Aporopriate level up times preferred.

Posting times I check the game threads multiple times per day, but don't always post something each time, especially if I have nothing to say.

Is it too late to say I'm interested in this?

New to PbP.

I will put together a character in the next couple days if you tell me that I'm not too late. Is the 16th still the deadline?

Yep, recruitment is still open until September 16th at 23:59. The Gm has not changed it.

All PC class leveled characters made by players have 2 things in common, their levels are unknown and they aren't in Phaendar. Hopefully that's alright with you.

Feel free to submit a character, deadline is the 16th at 23:59 as Chobo said. I don't know if I will be able to review it though. Good luck.

Current Plan - going to review Mugwort and Lyrathiel today and tomorrow. Mugwort just snuck in on time and Lyrathiel is in on a second review. After that there are no guarantees.

For those people wanting to make minor backstory/build edits (a feat or some math, small changes) feel free to until the 16th. After that your character is set in stone, and I won't be allowing edits based on party composition for those that might want to.

I forgot to ask, are you allow pre-game crafting if we can make it by taking 10?

Perfect. I was just taking a stab at the based on when he would have last seen them.

Ah. Apologies then. I should probably adjust my application, since I added a 6th NPC (Lyrathiél's husband) who's a 3rd level ranger and presently staying in Phaendar. I was drawing upon this exchange

DM Rostam wrote:

Lastly, would it be possible to indicate (in addition to the standard 5) a single NPC with levels in a PC class living in Phaendar as part of her background, obviously with the implicit agreement that as soon as balancing and / or the plot requires it, he should develop a very bad case of "ye good olde GM-mandated significant NPC's death"™ for fun&drama?
Yep you can do that. The character creation rules specify at least 5 NPCs so that I can stat out a good chunk of the town for interaction, if you want to do more go ahead. I may change the levels a bit but I probably won’t subject them death for no reason.

emphasis added, in retrospect I should have probably done it the first time I posted

In case, I'll ask the question again: would it be ok for Lyrathiél's husband to be a 3rd level ranger, with the tacit agreement he gets the GRR Martin treatment as soon as the plot requires it?

I will let you pre-game craft if you can make it by taking 10. Please mention what has been crafted in your inventory.

I already said yes, so I won't take it back. Its not that big a deal really, its just easier if there aren't too many closely tied higher level NPCs.

Okay then it would raise you wound threshold and wound points by 2. So you would have:

Wound Points = 42
Wound Threshold = 20
Vigor points = 10

Sorry for the confusion over that.

Here is my submission. sorry I'm so late to the game. I am brand new to PbP...

One thing I wasn't clear on was the bonus feat(s). Can I choose Power attack as my free feat for being a 2/3 BAB character? will it just come into effect when I hit level 2 and have the +1 BAB pre-requisite?

I have Power attack listed in the stats below, since I am guessing that's how it works, otherwise I'll drop it.

Backstory:

Elyas Tamran is one of a long line of priests, clerics and religious acolytes. His father Bail is a cleric of Iomedae, assigned as a missionary to the frontier lands. He trained his son in the ways of the faith, hoping he would choose a similar path.

Elyas was initiated as a cleric of Iomedae, but it was a choice made from duty and not his own personal convictions. As he grew older, he started to see flaws in his father's faith. He disliked the black and white way of seeing the world, and the pressure the faith put on others to convert.

Elyas started spending more time with friends in Phanedar, especially Corin Barns. Corin is a smooth-talking entrepreneur and con man, and Elyas' best friend. He is also a terrible influence in Elyas' father's eyes. Through his friendship with Corin, Elyas really started questioning why his family was here trying to convert people to faith in Iomedae. What good where they bringing to the frontier, to people that didn't even want to hear their message?

His beliefs were further challenged by his friendship with Marian Zaman, a pretty girl of Vudrani descent who lives in Phanedar. Her belief in foreign gods was strange to Elyas, but he quickly noticed parallels between their faiths. He saw that her gods were as effective as the one his family was sworn to. Marian helped him see many of the grey areas in life that are just part of the reality of living out in the wild, where law and order aren't always the answer.

Elyas still serves Iomedae, but he has started to make compromises in the way he performs his duties as a cleric. He has started to take lessons from a local herbalist named Janine who is teaching him non-magical ways of healing that can be even more effective than magic in times when there isn't enough magic to go around. He has taken to these new studies, and incorporates herbalist remedies in parallel with his divine magic.

Nice. I had extra money I didn't know how to spend, so I've added 6 flasks of acid for (10*6)/3 = 20 gps to her inventory(Craft DC 15 to make them and I have a +5 relevant modifier). Never know where the next swarm lurks.

You did power attack correctly. Stat block and backstory look good.

Thanks for the submission, its complete.

EDIT - I've started reviewing stuff yesterday for final selection, and you guys are making this hard. Wish I had time to run two tables.

Good luck, mate. Looks like some tough calls...

Seconded. Looks like you're spoilt for choice; the good news is – selection will be hard, but with so many good submissions you're going to have a very strong group in your hands no matter what.

Good luck to you (and to everybody else, of course)!

Good luck!

Indeed, best of luck!! Fingers crossed!
