Are there any immediate plans for a Bestiary 2 box? Getting that out quickly would help reduce the burden of the Adventure Path pawns collections from having to provide PFRPG generic creatures, which would allow the Adventure Path pawn collections to provide some of the more exotic pawn options.
I also like the idea of filling the left over spaces in the Adventure Path pawns with alternate art for common creatures that may have been already published. Helps bring variety to the table. (Combining the Beginner's Box and this Bestiary Box rocked with alternate creature art!)

You were absolutely right -- I just got that email, hanging the release date from Jan. 10 to Sept. 20. Whew!

Hi guys.
I got the card size for normal and large sized pawns before and I am very happy. Can anyone please help with this questions. What are the measurements for the Huge and tiny sized pawns?
Tiny sized pawns are the same as the "normal" pawns. As for the Huge, I will have to let someone else help as I am at work and do nto have mine here to measure for you.

Clearly it's a deliberate choice rather than a problem, so no worries there..
Yeah, since swarms take up four squares, the four pawns for that swarm each represent one quarter of the same swarm. (We made it four 1"-diameter pawns instead of one 2"-diameter pawn since swarms don't always organize themselves into a square.)

Thanks Bluescale for all the work, good to know.
Still waiting for this to get to Canada? the local hobby store has it but it's over an hour drive one way, with my gas tank I can buy almost 3 boxed sets from chapters.ca
waiting but not patiently....... :(
I actually picked this up the day you posted. I saw it on the shelves at FLGS in Toronto.
Gotta say this is a really great alternative to miniatures (even though I collect those as well, mostly picked this up to substitute for the monsters I don't have minis for yet). I'll definitely be recommending this to fellow Players with a limited budget.Actually, the Remorhaz doesn't have a human in it. It just looked so much like the Bestiary picture I didn't notice the Bestiary had a human in it. The Giant Scorpion, though, still has a hyena in the picture, and the Dire Tiger still has piglets running away.
I like the Dire tiger artwork with the running piglets. Gives me a bit of a chuckle (as cruel as that seems...)

I picked up the box this weekend - super groovy.
One thought to help with multiple critter combats. If you provided numbered stickers to put on the bases then all of the counters could be the same (or you could combine counters from two sets) and the GM could just use the number on the base to differentiate the different critters of the same type.
I'm going to look for some sticker sheets at an office supply place later this week.

I really didn't like how the swarm turned out. I was hoping a flat tile(s) I could just lay down and shape as needed given a swarm actually has to be in the same space + the fact they take up a 10 x 10 cube of space.
I would like to to see a familiar pawn set for casters, maybe one for animal companions too.

I didnt understand it until Vic explained it to me, but I really liked the swarm treatment. In my view, having four individual counters so it isnt constrained to filling out a square on the battlemat is a great improvement on other swarm counters/figures I've seen. I think it may have looked incongruous to have swarms lying flat and the rest of the pawns standing up.
Irrespective - I think the flexibility of 4 1x1 counters rather than 1 2x2 counter is great.

I agree - depending on size of the set an animal companion/familiar/summoning set of pawns would be a great addition to the line, in my opinion.

Huh... interesting. Vic's comment above, that Swarms do not always organize themselves into squares, appears to be based on the 3.x Swarm subtype rules... in that case, the spaces only needed to be contiguous, so the swarm could stretch out along a line of four 5-foot aquares, or bend around a corner in a similar arrangement.
EDIT: The Pathfinder rules do stipulate a single 10-ft square (or cube, if the creatures can fly).

![]() |

Read the next paragraph in the swarm subtype Urath DM
"The area occupied by a large swarm is completely shapeable, though the swarm usually remains in contiguous squares." Its actually the exact same text as 3.5.
But that's talking about large swarms - multiples of individual small swarms. A small swarm is currently defined to occupy a 10' x 10' square, not four 5' x 5' squares.
I think the "multiple 5' x 5'" definition works better (especially in a 5' corridor; it's a bit of a stretch to claim that a rat swarm would be squeezed in a 5' wide corridor). But strictly speaking it isn't (yet) RAW.

I didn't even think about Summons but YES! If you took the entire list using both fiendish and divine(?) that practily be a box on it's own but I like to sea the lawful and chaotic summons in there too. Nature's ally also. That be a big box.

Fiendish and divine could be just some plastic clip (like stands but smaller) attached to the pawn. Actually Paizo could do a whole set of different kind of clips to add to pawns for spells/buffs/conditions and so on.

Very nice work. Look forward to seeing more of this.
On a side note: I suggested a while ago that you might look into a custom pawn creation kit, sort of like the old 'presto-magic' art dioramas from the 80s. The kind where you rubbed the image with a pencil and it dry transferred to the scene.
I think this would do really well by you and would be worth pursuing, as I believe the demand for your pawns is going to be beyond anything you have anticipated.
Respectfully,
Paladin

For those who still haven't seen it, THIS video of the unboxing of the box set should answer a lot of questions.

So, maybe it's me, expecting too much from Paizo (although, in my defense, the quality of all the products I have purchased to date may have spoiled me), but I'm a little disappointed in the Bestiary Box. Specifically, with the fact that a number of the pawns have artwork that is cut off. Some of them don't bother me overmuch, but a number of them do, especially when it was obvious that they had originally been cut down.
Does this make them unusable? No, not even a little bit.
Does it make the artwork less stunning? No, not really.
Is it a personal thing? Probably.
Just wanted to get this off my chest. Glad to have them, and I'm sure my players will...have mixed feelings. ;-)

I suspect the reason for this is that the die cfutter has a chance of being a little bit off, and if the creature who have wings sailing off into the distance stopped at where the edge of the pawn was, there'd be a chance of a milimetre of white space appearing on the abrupt end of the appendage

Yep. The printer lingo for that is "bleed."

Got this last week and pretty pleased with it - artwork is pretty awesome the whole way through and scale of different monsters is much better visually represented by a standing pawn of differing heights than a 2-d counter.
Just one thing is bothering me though - was there any need for the numbering of the various pawns? - as far as I can see, the numbers just relate to the index on the back of the box (whereas maybe pointing to the page number of the bestiary may have been more useful?) - obviously, it isn't a big issue but, to me at least, it detracts from what is otherwise a great product.

The numbers allow people to apply their own organization to their pawns, and the color of the number also allows you distinguish between multiple copies of the same critter on your table.
Their presence is actually a direct response to customer feedback—the pawns in the Beginner Box didn't have numbers, and many people asked us to add them.

![]() |

Wow, thanks for the insight...will the same be applied to future pawn collections? I was thinking that I would probably add numbers to the bases (not permanently though) for distinguishing critters at the table.
Good to hear that customer feedback is sought and listened to though!
Yep, and future collections will also have something identifying the specific set that they came from... which was based on user feedback from this set!

While I understand the reason, I disliked that they were added. I did not like the numbers or white boxes many companies added to the tokens. But I realize I am not the majority so I expect them on every set going forward.
But to be clear, I love my box full of fun.

The colored number approach is interesting. I actually just used a metallic Sharpie to write numbers on my Beginner Box bases, which allowed me to multiple ones apart.

I won a beginner box and then also purchased this box at PAX this year. My friends and I have been using the hell out of the minis.
One thing I havent found is a good way to store, carry and access them. Currently I have a tackle box, but the cards have to lay flat in stacks of 10 or so. so finding the right stack on the fly is a bit of a hit or miss affair.
Has anyone found something that will store these in a portable fashion while still making them easy to flip through should the need arise?
