I'm slow so would someone tell me the difference between full color pawns and painted minis? I'm assuming the pawns are paper minis.
Thanks
If you're talking about the pawns in the actual Beginner Box, they're thick cardstock standees printed with a illustration on both sides. The painted minis in this set are three-dimensional plastic.

Mini's are small miniatures, while pawns are images put on card stock and then often put on a stand up.
Least I think thats what the pawns are going to be like, but I could be wrong.
Edit: Ninja'd by Vic while I was getting URL's so I was right at least. :)

I'll be ordering mine soon as well, but those "bigger" images look like digital versions of what the miniature "should" look like. Are they actual images of a finished miniature or just a digital "mock up" versions?
They are digital mockups of the finished 3D sculpts, with the actual planned paint apps and textures. We won't have actual photo samples for a few weeks at best.

Are the other iconics coming in separate products? I'd love to get the monk, barbarian, sorcerer and ranger in a set
Right now, only this set is planned. If you'd like to see other prepainted plastic Pathfinder minis from WizKids, please consider showing your interest by preordering this set.

I know you'd like preorders before you tell wizkids how many make. Do you think you'll have the actual photo samples before you have to give those numbers? I ask because Id like to see them before I preorder.

I expect them to be asking in the next week or so, so, no.

Thanks for the bigger pics, Vic. They all look a lot nicer than the low-res pic suggests.

Pre-ordered to support the potential future line. I don't need these as much as I need other sets (more iconic packs, themed monster sets, or even random monster sets). In fact, we have half this group as metal minis in our party already.
On the other hand, I plan on buying a Beginner's Box for my niece, so these can go with it.

Here's a link to a series of preview articles WizKids does for their Clix lines, illustrated with large photos of actual figures.
Please also note that we've been told that the Pathfinder minis will have some of the most detailed paint & texture operations that WizKids has ever done. (Wayne Reynolds does tend to put a lot more detail in his drawings than most comic artists...)

I'm really trying to resist ordering two more. You're not helping.

As an avid PPM collector, I am exceptionally happy to see that Paizo is taking a little dip into a PPM line. (Pre-Painted Miniature)
The sculpts do appear to be fairly decent. My only complaint at this time is that there are only 4 being released :)
I hope the sales of these greatly justify continued production of PPM's, expecailly ones that are thematically released with Adventure Paths.
Three important observations.
1. Thank you so much for putting them on a round base and making them more compatable with my "other" PPM's. I only wish Reaper would learn from the rest of the industry, but sadly they prefer their plastic broccoli bases.
2. An excellent price considering the paint steps! For those that complain about price you need to understand that after 3 paint steps, the cost to manufacture a PPM becomes very prohibitive. These figures have about double that.
3. I do not see any reference indicating if this is a limited run. Are there any plans to make this a limited run?
I have done much research about marketing PPM's and here are my comments about this.
The key to this set and future sets being successful is appealing to non-Pathfinder fantasy roleplayers (the D&D players who have not heard of Pathfinder -- or chosen not to play it). Without appealing to the broadest audience possible, thereby selling greater quantities, then the high cost of manufacturing the PPM's is difficult to overcome.
Anyways, as a collector I like the set. As a Pathfinder player, I appreciate the set even more. For the longevity of what could be a great new line, please make these sets in limited production runs. Thank you.

For purposes of tracking pre-orders....will Paizo be able to get the data they need from FLGS's or is pre-orders thru Paizo.com most useful for determining the manufacturing run size?
FLGS order from distributors, who order from Paizo. However, distributors only tend to show what they have for order that week or maybe the week after. The retailer can indicate to their distributer that they want a lot, but that doesn't mean that the distributer will keep a track. For example my FLGS was pressing for months that they would need Core Rulebooks, as they had a load of people pre ordering. The distributer didn't pay any attention, and order a lot less 1st runb books than they needed, so stores couldn't fufill their preorders.

From what was said at PaizoCon, for purposes of getting those all-important initial numbers to WizKids, you want to pre-order here at Paizo.com and you want to do it sooner than later.
After than, order anywhere you like.

Allow me to add to the kudos that everyon else is bestowing. The sculpts are very good! My only concern is Valeros. If this product hasn't been finalized then I have a question. Doesn't Valeros use his long sword in his RIGHT hand? If so, then I hope that this discrepency can be fixed before then. If not, then nevermind! :-)
Either way, I have preordered!

Ah, I see how it is, different races, colours, creeds and sexual orientations is just FINE, but make one iconic a (superior) left handed person...

I liked the proposed look for the new minis so much I had to pre-order! Here's hoping they're a successful seller & we can look forward to more PPM iconics.
I do have to say I think that Valeros's armor could do with a nice ink wash. It's something I could & probably would do if the minis are produced exactly as represented.

Yes but I think that his name should be changed to Dexter! Okay bad joke but it's the best comeback that I could think of.

In the very near future, WizKids will be setting the original run size. If that run sells out quickly (and they'll decide what defines "quickly"), they may do more. Further, we don't plan to limit the Beginner Box itself, and if we find that lots of Beginner Box buyers buy the minis, *maybe* we'll be able to keep the minis available indefinitely.
In short, we're not planning it as a "limited edition."

Correct. Distributors generally don't call for retailer orders until shortly before a product ships, so a preorder placed with your retailer today may not be counted by the manufacturer until it's far too late to be meaningful.

OK just got the email promoting preorders. I will most likely preorder but I have a concern. The email states the price is $12.99 but the list price has jumped to $13.72, is crossed off and now shows an "our price of $12.99". What's up? Was there supposed to be a small discount if you preorder?
I just looked at the detailed pics of the minis. 3 out of 4 look great. Merisiel looks a little something. Toyish?

That's a bug, which we've been applying short-term fixes for, but it'll keep coming back every couple of days until we make some code changes. The suggested retail price is $12.99, and that's the price we're selling it for. (WizKids is selling it directly to Alliance, but we'll be selling it to other distributors, and we have a policy of not setting our price below MSRP for products we sell into distribution.)
Vic Wertz Chief Technical Officer |
The minis have been added to our main distributors database and the code we have which syncs our data with theirs is smart enough to know the price we are selling it at, but is taking the distributor's data at its word for the suggested retail price. We'll fix it.
It's actually doing something more complicated than that—our distributor's database doesn't actually *include* the MSRP on this product, and we're calculating it based on a slightly incorrect assumption.
