Wait we need subterfuge and stealth so we add a paladin and a priestess of Torag to the group...now he tells us lol.

The paladin arrives to challenge each giant to solo combat while the priestess continually heals her. The rest of us takes bets on who is going to win or knock her out first. We bankrupt the giants and send them home for the win!

Playing to the strengths of the party, oh yeah.

Sven, looking at all of the options you have listed I would go for God-meddled but not sure if that would get clunky in a play by post with the random generator.

Also nice job transforming the forge Sven!!!

The assassination attempt on the party put Neltji into a foul stupor that took some time to shake herself out of. Thankfully the rest of the party was able to think clearly and make the decisions that were necessary. The enore time she just had a running dialogue with herself and Anthony as she tried to logically figure these turn of events in her head.

Why would someone pay to kill us? That doesn’t make sense. I mean when the shop was wrecked it was not really a targeted attack against us directly it was more like we were bystanders that were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Events on the island were also different as it was all a struggle for survival with limited resources, cannibals, wild animals, and undead. That is just nature taking its course. This though, this was premeditated targeted behavior. Whomever did this deserves what happens to them and those they hired. Maybe it would be simpler if all do the thugs just died in the attack. But that would lower ourselves to their standards at this point… and so the inner monologue continued as Neltji mindlessly went to sleep.

In the morning Neltji seemed to have finalized her inner debate as she woke early to commune with Anthony as she normally did. She seemed a bit more hardened than the night before and was ready to engage the world and their adventures. Thanks for taking the lead last night Shalissa. My head wasn’t right after that attack…oh hey Kibi. Listen, stay out of sight and be quiet for the next few days. Anyone that mentions us may end up swimming with weights on their ankles. Wouldn’t want that to happen to you now. Just forget you ever saw us and you may end up alright. What ever you do don’t tell anyone that we are headed back away from all of this danger.

Neltji hated lying to the kid but it was for everyone’s sake and safety. Maybe eventually she could make it up to Kibi…but that was just a lie to herself now wasn’t it.

Avoid the docks unless someone wants to take revenge now.

Kragg immediately picks up that the Analytical Engine completely ignored his response, observations, and inquiries. I am sorry but until I know more about you and you answer my questions I think this conversation is over. You are trying to gather all of this intelligence on us without revealing anything yourself. Now will you explain how you are able to watch us within the complex, where the Aboleth is, and how we can rescue the colonists!

Variel’s nose twitched in his sleep as somewhere someone was thinking about him. Not too concerned about it he rolled over to his other side and grabbed 1 of his 3 fluffy down pillows and snuggled deeper into the warm blankets of his secure house.

Kragg has just enough time to finish his spell before the fight comes near him. Once his prayer is answered he calls out to the party to try to use less lethal means if possible. These might be the colonists that have been mutated by the Aboleth. I am not sure if we can reverse the process! Don't risk yourselves though by holding back.

Not wanting to risk being drawn into an ambush Variel stops at Devorik and lets the thugs flee. Offering a hand to the injured man Variel gives him time and space if he needs it before getting to his feet. I am sorry for not being here sooner. Too many thugs in this town are acting too freely without anyone trying to rein them in. Variel stares down the street the way the thugs fled for a few seconds before coming back to the present. So I am going to have to review all of the rooms up to this point and try and figure what needs to be done. I know we had multiple areas that we were missing information on as some rooms werent powered up, others missing technologies, others missing pieces, etc.

That is a great question Alyn. The room north of us was originally needing power in order to program the mechanical creatures there. This may be the power we need but I don't know how to control it yet. Unfortunately I was not focusing on the mechanics of this place as I was worried more about the Aboleth that seems to either have escaped us or was never here int he first place.

Variel stopped paying attention to the guards as Beorn started his performance. Clearly the man was either a genius or more insane than Pollux. At the moment Variel wasn't sure which one. He then realized that he was the closest party member to Beorn and had the best view of the 'show'. Turning away quickly and averting his eyes he misses the guards approaching.

Needing to get closer for his color spray spell Variel walks closer to the performer. He has one hand raised blocking his eyes from the sight (and covering his face and features at the same time) the other is holding out a cloak towards Beorn. By the gods, man, cover yourself up. Is there no decency left in the world?

Hepzamirah looks longingly at the crystal in the holder. This the the final step before my culmination in my work here. This is a 98% refined nahyndrian crystal. It will only take me another few days to finalize it before it is sent off. It is quite a delicate process that only a few know about and perhaps only 2-3 can actually perform. I can not be away from it for long though as the energies within it will escape before it reaches full purity. I believe the crystal chisel that was used against your warding stone was only at 80% refinement.

Kragg takes a look at the statues as well trying to come up with some idea of what they represent. Clearly someone did not like the center statue’s head and broke it. I wonder if it is laying here amongst the rubble? We should try and restore it if we can find it. Alas that may be yet another thing we have to do tomorrow along with the mask. Yes, sorry for the lack of introductions or a proper warning that we were bringing visitors. As for Merelda here, she has a penchant for being a thorn in the side of those who cross her. Thankfully she is with us and has been vetted as thoroughly as we could. As for the other guest that we brought that Merelda is referring to…well let’s just say that without him there would be an innocent who would be lost today if it wasn’t for his timely intervention.

Once the reality sets in that the fairie dragon is not an actual undead creature Variel warms up to the creature. I must offer an apology Vendalfek. I was lead to believe that you were an undead creature that needed to be destroyed for being a blight upon society and the world in general. Based on that information I was intent to strike and kill you before. Now that I know the truth of who you are I can better appreciate your antics. Variel lets out a low chuckle in hindsight thinking of all that had happened to the party.

I must say the fish heads were a delightful touch for some members of the group. And knowing that the 2 men that were killed were part of the trouble at the docks. We were investigating that issue yesterday when we stumbled upon the shenanigans here.

Joining Litsy in the offer of joining the group Variel adds his piece. Anytime you want to join us and stay invisible while doing so just let us know. You might have an enjoyable time and maybe see something that we don't.

Righting himself at the last moment Variel prevented himself from falling on his face. The moment was lost though and Variel was unable to gather his momentum again. It wasn't until 3 streets later that Variel even felt that he was keeping up with the foul creature. Somehow though he remains close enough that he sees Litsy appear out of nowhere as if she was invisible. Just past her was Beorn and he had no idea how he got in front of him either. Before Variel answer Merelda about Pollux’s position in the group he chimes in to story hour. In return perhaps she can tell Pollux the limerick of the Man from Nantucket. It pairs up to the alchemist story pretty well for valuable information needed at this time.

As to Merelda’s real question he answer for Pollux in a way to hopefully turn the conversation back to something akin to a resemblance of order. He is our 1. In that, every group needs 1 person to take the position counter to the group consensus. That way he is free to think of those ideas and plans that the rest of us may not have considered. Pollux is well suited to that position.

AS Lara and Lolito talk about the columns Kragg takes notice as well. It is true that all civilizations and generations take and learn from previous civilizations and generations. That is what makes a civilization so great. It has the opportunity to pass on to those that follow the success it had. By this then we hope that later civilizations and generations will rise to greater heights than their predecessors. It is much the same that a parent will try and raise their children to exceed their own success. Taldor, Absalom, and Cheliax are in essence the partial offspring of Azlanti culture and civilization.

Kragg is not able to see the hidden door but will stand back and be ready to proceed forward as Lolito and Lara open the door.

He picked up a few pointers but was never comfortable in the water even with the ring of swimming that he had. Reaching the double doors Kragg used his extra reach and enhanced strength to open the doors. Ready everyone? We don't know what is behind these doors. If there are captive colonists they may be under the control of the aboleth. Take it out first and then we can worry about the colonists. If there are a bunch under its control it may take a few days for me to break the enchantments around them and restore them to normalcy.

During his meditation his thoughts turned to the settlers that were captured. His normally peaceful demeanor was replaced with a burning anger. The anger built and took the shape of a key…Abadar’s symbol. And that key turned releasing the lock on part of Kragg that was always there but buried deep. It was now free thanks to Abadar’s guidance.

Opening his eyes Kragg could see his hands gripping the short sword. With the grip came full understanding of how to use more martial weapons to protect Abadar’s followers and to bring his light and justice to the untamed wild.

Does this count as a full rest for replenishing spells?

Variel had to show some restraint around Litsy as he clearly agreed with her regarding the new 'barmaid'. He would like to snap a finger off as well but that would not be a good idea in front of Litsy. If he kept telling her not to do things like that and did them himself, she would never learn. He managed to keep the grin off his face but perhaps not the twinkle in his eyes when Litsy mentioned her proposal and then answered herself right away. As she storms off Variel couldn't help but feeling a bit proud of her sticking up for herself while cringing at the language she used...still a work in progress.

Turning back to the lady Variel tries again to keep his cool and not escalate the situation. As he talks it becomes easier to relax and not force himself to be nice. As he relaxes his stutter almost stops. I know what you are implying but not everything can be resolved with carnal desires. As for who am I? My name is Variel and who are you and what should I call you?

Merelda is astute enough to notice that Variel never does answer the question as to his and Litsy's relationship. It is too difficult to explain to a stranger anyways.

As to why the table flipped, my guess is we have some sort of pixie prankster that is causing mischief. I noticed a few magical auras that fit the results of what is going on. As he mentions magical sight, he gives Merelda a look up and down.

spellcraft on the auras as not a spell effect? 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Variel spies the multitude of magical auras and it takes him some time to try and piece it all together. He hears Litsy tell him not to move and Variel plans on doing exactly that, nothing. He keeps his concentration going trying to track the moving illusion auras. He is so busy on the magic that he doesn't see Litsy moving into position and look like she flipped a table. He knows she shouldn't and probably wouldn't do such a thing, but couldn't rule it out 100% though. He is brought back to reality when she comes flying over to him telling him of an invisible flying lizard with wings.

know arcana 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 taking a wild guess here

I have heard tales of small dragon like creatures called psuedodragons or fairie dragons that are about the size of a cat. They like to play pranks on people and cause mischief. It is possible that is what we are dealing with here. If it is one of them then none of my spells will help as it will resist my sleep and color spray.

Any further thoughts on the creature are driven out when the original protagonist to the group, the heckler of Beorn, starts in on Litsy. Listen here lady, you have no right to speak to her. You have no author..author..authorrr...rights here. You don't own this b...b...bar nor a...arrr...are responsible for her. Leave her b..b..be and go back to your own business.

Pulled in another direction almost immediately with his attention Variel is back to the idea of a psuedo/fairie dragon with Beorn. Ask it mentally if it is a pseudo or fairie dragon and if it would like to meet outside to talk. It can stay invivisible if it wants.

Also if it is a fairie/pseudodragon, dibs on 7th level feat being improved familiar

So if you wanted to dip 1 level of paladin you wouldn’t reach 10th level witch till then. Imagine a paladin hexing people. That will really confuse people.

Tal is not a boy toy thank you very much. I believe Pollux was the one that enjoyed the whipping.

As for the deadpool rankings, Variel is easily the first one to die minus the random arrow or bolt. Everyone else either has a better survival instinct or isn't as willing to push the limits as the front liner. Pollux sits easily in second place until such time that he can charm or dominate others to do his bidding. Litsy and Merelda are a toss-up and it depends on which one stabs the other first at this rate. Beorn and Sasha can both heal themselves and stay in the back out of harms way.

At this point I want consistency for the long haul. Everything else we can deal with somehow. Whatever the new person wants to play is fine by me. Are we still looking at adding more though?

I would try and recruit first then if nothing bites then we double up on characters.

I will also go through the posts to compile a loot list from this dungeon dive. Might take a bit to go through all of the posts though.

Agree whole heartedly with your post in the recruitment thread. Nothing you have done IC has been evil aligned towards us or the rebellion. If anything Variel has been the worst for decapitating a few heads in the last fight.

As for a promotion what role would you like with Borgan gone? We can definitely reshuffle the positions around with new blood. Are you thinking the Sentinel or wanting something else?

Well if Mera rejoins that is an option but would definitely cause strife for Lily joining. Of course would prefer Mera back than running a second character.

I say post a recruitment thread and if no hits then we run double.

Good luck and enjoy the family for the next week!

After identifying the gloves Kragg looks around to the others. Does anyone mind if I keep these for a while? They look like they would help me understand what is going on better around here.

Assuming no one minds him using the gloves he puts them on.

Entering the next room when Lara declares it all safe to enter he sees the complex mechanical devices and cut outs in the alcoves. This is quite interesting. I wonder what this is used for and why some of the alcoves are empty?

Know arcana 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Know engineering 1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 5 = 18
Craft clockwork 1d20 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 5 = 19

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

You are right Lara. This is very similar to the panel we found at the observatory. Given some time we might be able to figure this panel out as well to gain more insight into the working here now and before. It is possible that we can use the panel to communicate with any clockwork or constructed device using this room.

Kragg approaches the metal statues within the alcoves to see if they are truly statues or if they are clockwork mechanisms. If we can’t figure out the panel these gloves would give me an understanding of how this particular device works.

Do we spend time now tinkering with it or later? I am willing to date my curiosity till later but I am so intrigued by this place.

The remains of that commander are what is splattered all over me. Well that and some of his henchmen. I cleaned it up with magic but rest assured they will not bother you again. Now, hop up into the cart and be quiet till we can get you out of here without you being seen.

A thought crosses Variel a mind though as he looks at the car. D&$N, we don’t any horses to draw the cart though. Looks like we will just need to make a go for it and hopefully not been seen by the wrong eyes as we leave. No one run and everyone walk as if going about business so we don’t make a scene.

I saw that you were down 33hp Lolito. That is why I went with the healing amount I did. Let me know for sure.

Actually itis not all that surprising. With 4 exact pairs of people I would have thought that 4 were originals and the other 4 stalkers. I just wish that I could have more to determine which ones were stalkers. He looks down at the unconscious ones. It probably makes more sense to keep going and return for these later. Hopefully by then we will be able to suppress the compulsion magics upon them. Or at the least keep them bound until the magics wear off.
