Variel Nightstorm

I read the post wrong. I took it as Beorn took the dwarf’s head off…oops
Variel moves back to the dwarf and with the flat of the blade tries to smack him unconscious.

As soon as the fight is over, Litsy starts searching the dwarf and the soldiers's pockets for a key.
"Come on, help me look!" She says to her teammates. "We need to open that gate!"

Now with the dwarf disposed of Variel follows through with his plans of cleaning the area up and hiding all signs of their presence. First is making sure no one can see them through the gate to the outside and that no alarm was raised and guards are coming.
| Borgan, the Unfallen |
Borgan will help Variel dispose of the guards's bodies to move them out of sight and clearing the place up to not suggest a full attack. Providing Litsy finds the key first to unlock the gate.
I think we are trying to hide the guards inside the encampment? Correct me if I'm wrong assuming that.
Variel Nightstorm
|
Yes Borgan that works for me. I just don't want anyone able to see what is going on from the outside right now.
As Borgan is helping him clean up Variel inquires, Are you able to do any healing today? I sure could use some after that skirmish there.
| Borgan, the Unfallen |
Borgan looks up to Variel with a raised eyebrow as the man asks him for healing.
"I'm not really much of a priest or cleric, but I will ask Shelyn for a blessed healing."
After the pair have finished Borgan wipes the sweat from his face with the back of his hand.
"Phew...Let's see if Shelyn is willing to hear my plea."
He mutters some indistinct prayer to Shelyn, without making a sound, only mouthing the words.
He then lays a hand on Variel in hopes his plea is heard.

How many are you still missing?

Thanks Borgan. I know you are not a priest but Shelynites has blessed you with many abilities. I am still injured but not so critically now. Again thank you.

Borgan is taken aback even by his own capabilities to heal others through Shelyn's blessing. He furrows his brow as he wonders where this suddenly came from.
When Variel mentions he is still hurting, though not as much, Borgan shakes his head in response.
"That will simply not do, we have more ahead of us. Here, let me try again. May Shelyn bless your struggle against the ugliness in this city."

Hot water? Bit of bleach? A really big carpet?
Thought the gates were closed-my bad. Still worth searching the bodies especially for sets of keys, so Litsy will do that before thinking of hiding the mess.
"I think the best we can do is to stuff all of them inside the mines, at least for now. Maybe clean up the blood, if we've got something to do it. Hey, big guy, since you can heal people now, have you thought of checking the pulses-" she glances at the headless bodies lying around, and grimaces. ".... Nevermind. Of course, we could always free everyone, and then run away as fast as we can." Not sure what the plan is. Do you want to speedrace our way out of this Agatha Christie-style to save our Reputation, or should we just go ahead and liberate all the miners?
Not sure what we'd have to roll to hide evidence of a crime. Stealth? Unless we have some kind of useful spells, I think hiding the soldiers somewhere and cleaning up the mess using good old wet rags is our best deal.

The dwarf merely grunts an affirmation. The gate closes as the cart trundles along to its destination at the docks, the man in the back giving the group a blank stare all the way until it disappears around the corner. As the dwarf whispers some instructions to the gate guard he prepares to leave with you to the tavern a block or two down the street.
I thought the gate was closed per your post here. That has been my assumption as to why Variel decided to attack. Clarification please?
Variel Nightstorm

Variel will help gather the bodies and bring them into the mines themselves. With some luck they can cause a little collapse that will bury the bodies but not take down the entire mine.
Variel thanks Borgan again for the healing. Much appreciated. Remind me to make a donation to Shelyn if we ever come across a shrine to her. If there is no shrine then let me know what I can do for you to help make one for you somewhere private.
| Borgan, the Unfallen |
When the guards are all dragged into the compound itself and the outside sufficiently salted and scrubbed, Borgan motions for the others to regroup in a huddle.
"So? What do we do now? These would not probably be the only guards or personnel in this camp. We will need to check the buildings and the mines themselves to free any people kept here against their will. And to make sure none are left to stop us doing so. How will we approach this?"
| The Abyss Staring Back |
Unfortunately for Variel this place is a saltwork not a mine. Here they ship in wet salt from the coastal swamps to wash and dry it. The hot oven burning below the large round tower is where the drying is done.
Litsy runs into the yard and drags a few bags of salt into the road while you shove the bodies into an out of sight corner of the yard. It's far from perfect and Litsy can only hope the locals who were undoubtedly watching from afar weren't feeling particularly cooperative with the authorities.
Beorn checks inside the warehouse and sees a number of barrels, empty sacks and soggy ground. The whole area smells distinctly of sulfur and the footprints in the dirty moist floor suggests heavy activity.
Outside wary gaunt faces peer from the corners of the window of the corner office, the prisoners having decided to take cover when the melee ensued.
Variel Nightstorm
|
There is a large oven there. It may not be hot enough to completely burn the bodies, but it might do enough to keep them from being identified immediately. Then we need to free the prisoners and get them out of here.
| Tiny Litsy |
@GM: Did Litsy find anything while searching the bodies?
"Definitely. Let's get them out of here!" Litsy's hopping up and down with impatience.
Variel Nightstorm
|
In that case lets get them out of here and leave immediately.
Is there another cart or wagon that we can use to bring the prisoners out in while under a tarp to keep people from seeing them leave?
| The Abyss Staring Back |
The four men in the office turned varracks give Beorn a wary look as he enters and announces his intent. Bworn gets tye distinctive feeling he's getting sized up for a fight when one of the men speaks up in a deep gravelly voice. "Our commander's in the loading warehouse by the ovens, don't think any more guards are on shift but either way we leave with him or without your tongue."
Variel doesnt spot any spare carts in the main warehouse but he sees a pair of duvle doors to the south and a single qooden door to the southeast.
Variel Nightstorm

Variel will check the double doors quickly and see what is inside.

Borgan wanders into the barracks as the last one in, then observes the group of men who were taken prisoner.
He responds to their statement with a deep voice in return.
"You are kept here against your will right? Your commander... You are a fighting group yea? Commendable that you won't leave without him. If there are no more guards, what other obstacles do we face if we want to get him out?"

Good thing he was a c*** then, Litsy thinks to herself as she notices incriminating symbols etched on the dwarf's breastplate. She pockets whatever gold she finds, and shoves two vials filled with a strange liquid in Variel's hand as she steps into the barracks. Each potion is labelled "moderate".
"These ones are more up your alley."
She looks between the two doors longingly, eager to press onwards. "Fine! We'll fetch your commander... Thing. Be right back."
Warehouse's outside where we came from, is that right?
Variel Nightstorm
|
Variel takes the vials and stashes them on his belt for quick use. Thanks. It seems I may be in need of these more than the rest as they all have means of healing themselves. I never paid much attention to such conjugations myself. I was more focused on other matters.
| The Abyss Staring Back |
warehouses are outside to the east partially revealed by variel.
Within the double doors themselves is a loading and unloading area with an empty wagon waiting by chained up double doors to the south. Like the warehouse before it smells strongly of salt and sulphur and the floor is of course wet. Two benches sit across from one another where presumably guards or prisoners could presumably rest. Two such prisoners are sitting across from one another midconversation qhen Variel opens the door. Standing up on guard they watch the armed half elf warily without moving.
| Beorn the Divine |
Beorn looks inside and holds up his empty hands. Please be at ease, even though you no doubt have little reason to. We are here to get you away from your shoddy and no doubt forced servitude to Thrune. We can get you and the others to a much safer location with better food, clothes and shelter.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

A particularly swarthy varisian with an oily black beard eases up at the reassurances. His figure would be imposing were it not muted by malnutrition and fatigue.
"The commander should be out in the yard. Dwarven fellow with all the beligerence and none of the humor. I take it you have a plan beyond the walls of this place? I'm not ready to be hanged over deaths I didn't deal out with my own hands."

The remains of that commander are what is splattered all over me. Well that and some of his henchmen. I cleaned it up with magic but rest assured they will not bother you again. Now, hop up into the cart and be quiet till we can get you out of here without you being seen.
A thought crosses Variel a mind though as he looks at the car. D&$N, we don’t any horses to draw the cart though. Looks like we will just need to make a go for it and hopefully not been seen by the wrong eyes as we leave. No one run and everyone walk as if going about business so we don’t make a scene.
Variel Nightstorm

Yes, Litsy the workers along with everyone else. Perhaps we should leave in 2's and 3's so not to raise the notice a large group would make. Beorn, do you want to take these 2 with you now while Borgan takes those from the office? I will stay with Litsy till the rest are freed.
Variel Nightstorm

Are there any areas we have not searched? If so Variel will gladly go through it to find what information or loot there is to find. While moving the bodies Variel will liberate them of any goods and items. If all areas are searched then onward to freedom.
