"Are there any extra horses?"

"They said they were moving on to the outpost."

Scarlet looks at Byron dead in the eye. "Your family needs you here, not with the camp."

"I wasn't planning on going anywhere but home with Miriam and the twins if I can get them their safe that is. Miriam says that when they were kidnapped that Hal was with them, but that he got away."

Halford ("Hal") is another of Byron's nine younger siblings, and arguably the bravest (or most foolhardy). He's about 12 and mostlikely to grow up, and gain levels one of the martial classes.

Scarlet Scarab wrote:
"Wait Durgan. Kobolds are... confusing. Some of them here are our allies." Scarlet heads over to the Benzen children. "You kids okay? How are your parents?"

"Our mom's been dead for a while, and dad lost his leg to a giant pig last Summer." says Hansel the little boy, obviously excited by the sudden rescue.

His twin Leta elbows him in the arm, and tells him "You shouldn't brag when people just rescued you."

Their older sister, Miriam seems not to notice Scarlet's question. She's looking past her, and at Zokon with a queer sort of expression. "He even speaks kobold." she says out loud to herself.

Byron, the eldest, comes into view and others with sudden recognition rush off to greet their long lost older brother. There follows a long happy reunion with many questions including Hansel asking Byron "Didja kill anyone?"

ride (fast dismount): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Ignoring Illthir, Byron slips from the saddle and rushes down the hill to help his kin. Double move. Distance may vary based on where Illthir stopped her horse.

"HEY! That's my Merriam and the twins down there!"

"Illthir, can you see what's going on? Why is Posh pointing like that?" says the youth indicating the seemingly paralyzed gnome next to them.

Posh continues speaking, but his mouth seems to be on automatic. On the saddle next to Posh, Erevenywg who seems to be looking in the same direction as Posh is having the exact opposite reaction. Instead of paralyzing fear she seems to be excited and enjoying herself.

"What's going on?" asks Byron of Illthir. From way in the back it is hard to see.

"What's going on!?" calls Byron.

Scarlet Scarab wrote:

Scarlet continues on to the river. Silent until Byron speaks up.

"Many people want the Stag Lord dead. And they want to see his body. Here's the first one." She yawns.

With no further elaboration Byron remains quiet the rest of the way.

"Where are we going again?" asks Byron.

"They blew up Mr. Leveton.... Is Svetlana alright?"

Scarlet Scarab wrote:
"Didn't I tell ya? We came for the Stag Lord." Scarlet takes a look around. "Where did that blackheart go... Dammit. I'm sorry, Oleg." She turns to her non-ranger friend. "Zokon, is he the Benzen's boy? He matches the description."

"Just don't kill me. Someone killed Valkeri and some of the others a couple of weeks back. He was my only friend here. He was just a kid." *sniff*

Scarlet Scarab wrote:
"Boy, the Benzen family wants you to return. Alive. We ain't gonna hurt ya unless you attack us. Got it?"

"But my family has no money."

"Oh my gods! You killed him. Don't kill me, please!" begs the young man.

Illthir Winlowe wrote:
"And stay down! We are much nicer *after* your boss has been dealt with understand?!" Illthir glared at the boy and stepped back into proper hammer distance just in case.

"Oookay." says the terrified lad.

THUD! "OW!"

Zokon Santyev wrote:

"Stay where you are, I shall bind your hands and I shall come back for you later, fear not, you will be dealt with fairly and not killed."

Zokon quickly takes out his silk rope and binds the boys hands

"'Killed!?' Like Jex!?" the kid looks a bit hysterical. As Zokon pulls his rope out the lad jumps over the side. (AoO spiked gaunlet)

dice:
acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 fall damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6

"Aaah!" The boy drops his bow and arrow.

Speaking of...

*TWANG!*

yellow composite longbow v Scarlet: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Miss

"I think she means me!" shouts the worried boy to his companion. He fires again catching Scarlet's ham-sized hand.

yellow composite longbow v Scarlet: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"Alright...." He takes his longbow and approaches the evolving scrum at the foot of his watch tower. Out from under the tower's roof in the moonlight there's something about the boy's face....

yellow composite longbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

"I GOT IT!" he shouts as the arrow sinks into Scarlet's forearm.

"DON'T GET COCKY KID!" shouts the older man.
