So You Wanna Try Out Pathfinder Bundle!

Thursday, February 2, 2023

You didn’t have to be an Infinite Eye psychic to know this was coming. We’ve partnered with our friends at Humble Bundle to create a special digital deal to help you and your friends play Pathfinder and support a great open-source cause!

So You wanna try out Pathfinder RPG Book Humble Bundle

What is a Humble Bundle? Bundles are limited-time collections of games, books, software, and more. Simply pay what you want and choose where your money goes, including to charity. Most bundles come in tiers starting at only $1—but the more you give, the more you get!

Inside our bundle, you’ll find a complete set of digital assets to get you started playing Pathfinder—and inspire you to keep playing for many adventures to come. This includes over $400 in rulebooks, world guides, adventures, and accessories—with top-notch high-fantasy lore and art.

All save one of the products in this bundle are PDFs that you can redeem with codes at the Paizo Store, one code per tier. There are three tiers to this bundle, starting at $5 and ending with a digital $25 tier. The last tier also includes the Pathfinder Adventure Path: Abomination Vaults for Foundry VTT!

To top it off, a portion of your purchase goes to Code for America, which helps municipalities and government institutions implement programs based on open-source software solutions.

Watch the full Code for America TED Talk

The first tier starts at $5 and includes a code for seven PDFs worth over $100, including:

  • Pathfinder Character Sheet Pack (PDF)
  • Pathfinder Player Character Pawn Collection (PDF)
  • Pathfinder Lost Omens World Guide (PDF)
  • Pathfinder One-Shot #1: Sundered Waves (PDF)

For $15, you'll also get the PDFs in the above tier, plus a code for 11 more PDFs worth over $150, including:

  • Pathfinder Flip-Mat Classics: Swamp (PDF/JPG)
  • Pathfinder Flip-Mat: City Sites Multipack (PDF/JPG)
  • Pathfinder Adventure: Little Trouble in Big Absalom (PDF)

In the third tier, for $25, you'll get codes for the above tiers, plus a code for additional 10 PDFs, and codes for the Pathfinder Adventure Path: Abomination Vaults PDF and Abomination Vaults Foundry VTT Bundle, worth another $150!

  • Pathfinder Secrets of Magic (PDF)
  • Pathfinder Gamemastery Guide (PDF)
  • Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults Pawn Collection (PDF)
  • Pathfinder Gamemastery Guide NPC Pawn Collection (PDF)
  • Pathfinder Society Intro: Year of Boundless Wonder (PDF)
  • Pathfinder Flip-Mat: Arcane Library (PDF/JPG)
  • Pathfinder Pawns: Traps & Treasures Pawn Collection (PDF)
  • Pathfinder Adventure: A Fistful of Flowers (PDF)

Humble Bundles offer great deals and support great causes. Purchasers get a say in how much of their donation goes to each participant at checkout.

Thank you for playing Pathfinder!

The OGL debacle served as a good excuse for me to learn more about Pathfinder 2e, which was something I had wanted to try anyway. This bundle is absolutely wonderful. I picked it up and then also got the Advanced Player's Guide directly from Paizo. So I now own an enormous amount of content for $45.

If anyone needs a T1 or T2 download code and can't donate, I already have everything in those, so mine are unused.

Yeah, I pretty much just did the same - this bundle plus Advanced Player's Guide pdf. I had already tried 2e when it came out, but haven't played since the pandemic started. So the last 3 years, I've just playing 1e Pathfinder campaign with my home group, and that's it.

The Foundry module for Abomination Vaults could be the best way for my group to try out 2E and a non-Roll20 VTT.

Foolish question, the bundle files will show up in the 'my downloads' as usual?

Yes, other than the Foundry thing. I haven't figured that one out yet.

No, you will get redemption codes from Humble Bundle send to the email address you use for that site. Each tier will give you one code.

You can use those codes yourself or you can share them with someone else.

Log in and go to "Account Settings" and look for "Partner Redemptions." There is a text box at the top of the page to enter the Humble Bundle codes, one at a time.

Or go to this page to redeem the codes for Paizo PDFs

Thanks. The Foundry thing will be new for me. New times, time to try new tech.

Ahh, yeah. Sorry for the abridged answer. Yes, you have to go through the steps in the email from Humble Bundle. Then, they'll appear in your downloads here like usual.

I have not used Foundry, only Roll20. If I purchase the at the highest level and get access to Abomination Vaults (Foundry VTT), do I have to purchase anything else from Foundry to make this work?

Foundry itself is $50. So if you don't have Foundry itself, there's that. But other than that, everything you need for Abomination Vaults is in the module. All the general rules and character sheets and stuff is free with the PF2E system.

The $50 for Foundry is a one time purchase, not a subscription or anything, like some of the other VTTs

There is generally some work or a cost in setting up a Foundry server, depending on how technically adept you are.

Question: Got the bundle & all the files have gone to my acct...except for the Foundry VTT/Abomination Vaults file it appears. Am I overlooking something or will this be a reach out to customer service moment?

You have to redeem that on Foundry's web site. IIRC, there should be a link with your redemption code.

Note that it's not usable unless you buy the Foundry software for $50 first. So you may want to hold off redeeming that if you don't plan on buying that right away. Maybe someone else you know will buy the Foundry software at some point, and you can pass the redemption code to them later.

A separate redemption code? I did not see one listed. Nor do I recall a link. Hmmmm. Detective work to do...

Two day and over 50,000 bundles sold. By my record keeping, this is now the second biggest Pathfinder Humble Bundle, and there is still 17 days to go (plus any extension). The largest Pathfinder Humble Bundle, by my records, was the first in March of 2016 with 77,500+ sold. I think this will surpass that one.

2/13/2023 Update: 79,360+ bundles sold! Most ever with nine days to go. My estimates shows this bundle has brought in about $2,000,000, almost $140,000 for the charity.

At four days to go exactly, we've crossed 90,000 bundles at an average of $25.12. That is bonkers. It has outsold the 2016 bundle by 13,000 bundles, and it just keeps climbing.

Congratulations on an absurdly successful bundle, Paizo. And welcome to the many, many new folks!

Although I’m an old-school librarian, I also like to call myself a ”gamebrarian”, because I’m an avid gamer, and my duties at work include acquiring new RPGs and board games for the whole city library (board games as part of a group, RPG collection development actually for the neighboring cities as well). Not surprisingly, I’ve always preferred printed books to e-books, as they’re easier on my eyes, but also because I like the feel of a proper book in my grubby dwarven hands. It’s also easier for my brain and memory (I don’t know how else to describe it) to process, analyze and recall information by leafing through a printed book, instead of navigating between segments of an electronic document.

I’ve been aware of this ”Humble Bundle” thing for a couple of years, but haven’t paid much attention to it, even though many of my D&D-focused friends (and a couple of my own players) have bought the books and been very excited about it. I already had my 1st and 2nd edition books on the shelf, why would I need e-book versions of them? If I needed to copy-paste something, like a monster or hazard stat block, I’d just use Archives of Nethys, or write/type it by hand.

But the last couple of years have been quite hard, due to the global pandemic and the ongoing war in Europe. My FLGS has had a lot of problems with availability, and new products have often been delayed, and occasionally they haven’t received certain titles at all. They’ve told me it’s something to do with prioritization by the European distributors (i.e. bigger stores in bigger countries get almost all of the good stuff). This actually initially prompted me to purchase some AP volumes as PDFs, because I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get them as physical copies, even though I tried to preorder them. I hope the situation is improving a bit now, but to use a concrete example, our library is still waiting (after four, five months) for at least a couple of Paizo titles our distributors have been unable to deliver.

It doesn’t really matter these days, because my salary hasn’t changed, but all the prices have gone up so much that I can barely manage. And not just the price of RPG products, literally everything is way more expensive now around here. The last year has been especially rough, because first we moved twice, and then decided to renovate our kitchen in October. Truth be told, I haven’t been able to afford any new physical RPG products since last summer, and that is also the last time I actually visited my FLGS. Yet I can’t complain, because we still get by, we’re healthy and we’re living in a nice apartment -- with a renovated kitchen, to boot!

A few days ago I finally realized what my friends had talked about; I could get a whole pile of Pathfinder e-books via Humble Bundle, for less than 30 euros! Although I already have a few them (Abomination Vaults as a book and all the separate volumes as PDFs), I don’t yet have Secrets of Magic, for example. On top of that, I would get other essential books as PDFs, including the latest printings of Core Rulebook, Bestiary 1 & 2 and Gamemastery Guide. And then some pawns, adventures and flip-mats, which were a nice bonus, although I'm not sure if I'm ever going to download that VTT Foundry package, because I'm an old school kind of GM, and we use (and will be using!) physical maps and minis in my campaigns.

After all that rambling I just want to say: Sweet Asmodeus, what a bargain! Thank you Paizo and Humble Bundle! This old fiendish dwarven librarian could finally afford some new material, and also gain access to electronic versions of essential Pathfinder books! Don’t get me wrong; I still prefer my printed books and stone tablets to PDFs, but I’m beginning to understand why so many of my friends have bought the Pathfinder Bundle! :)

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I like APs in PDF form as I print them out to place in my campaign binder and can freely take notes on them during the course of a session.

Just over one day left (unless they extend it). We need 2,281 more bundles to sell to reach 100,000!

Gosh! I sure do hope we make that milestone!

Well, it's down to 1,577 to hit the 100k mark now, so it's definitely possible.

A little more than 900 to go with 19 hours and 30 minutes left on the clock. I think it's safe to say this will be, to my knowledge, the first RPG Humble Bundle to ever cross the six-figure mark in sales volume.

Would really be neat seeing a follow-up post from the Paizo crew talking about this.

And at roughly 7:30 PM Pacific on Feb. 22, the bundle crested 100,000 units sold with an average purchase price of $25.05 and $175,000+ raised for Code for America. And it's still going.

Genuinely stupendous. Now I'm *really* curious to hear what Paizofolk think of all this.

And as time runs out . . . .

103,315 bundles sold.
$183,765 raised for charity.
$25.01 average purchase.

And . . . . . .
they extended it for another 7 days. They have done this many times in the past. It might be that Humble Bundle has a two week limit, but that's just speculation.

What do we think? We are thrilled! (I do not think this will be extended for 2 weeks, only 1.)

So with 20 hours to go (again), we're sitting at about 112,300 sales. Can we hit 115k with less than a day to go? We'll have to find out.

I do still kind of want to hear a bit more from Humble and Paizo about just how hard this bundle blew everything else out of the water, and what future plans might be. (And also a little humble-bragging. I think some bragging is warranted.)

114,597 sold. One of which was me though I already had about half the items - I had them in print and now have them in PDF as well.

Motivated me to subscribe so that in future I'll get everything in both formats.

The only thing that I thought was peculiar about the bundle is that while it included the Beginner Box and Abomination Vaults, the Foundry plugin was for AB and not BB. I'd have preferred both obviously, but if just one then wouldn't BB have been a better one for starting players?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

I was going to buy it today but I didn't realize the expiration was in the morning! Dang darn gosh.

If you get the BBox PDF, the Foundry module is super cheap. It did feel like a slightly odd omission, but given that they had to work with Foundry to include modules at all, everyone involved may have wanted to keep it to just one item for this first outing of the concept of having Foundry modules involved.

(Given the sort of numbers this did, I suspect that next time we'll have the full Foundry set for *everything in the bundle* included.)

Unfortunately I missed it :(

Does anyone by any chance have a spare code of any tier? Otherwise, any estimate on when the next PF2 Humble Bundle will be?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I am unable to redeem my code for the $25 tier. The $5 and $15 dollar both worked fine as did the code for the foundry vtt items. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. It keeps saying 'That code is not recognized.'
