Pathfinder Society November Previews

Marcus Farabellus strides into the common room, looks around at the handful of agents lounging on the benches, then points his finger at several individuals in quick succession. “Belker, Nepsin, Hoger, Klar, Tennit, Greensward.” Grab your kits and head to Valsin’s office. He’s got a task for you over at the Blakros Museum. Farabellus gives them a friendly smile and nods, then turns sharply on his heel and leaves the room, ignoring the uproar his announcement generates.

The six quickly stand and gather their gear, chattering over each other in tense excitement.

“Abadar save us, not the Blakros Museum again!” exclaims Nathaniel Tennit. Wonder what it is this time?”

“Did you hear about the monkey infestation a few years back?” asks Asha Belkar. “Or the haunts around the mysterious orrery in the attics?”

“Well you know they traffic in all sorts of unsavory practices. Like sacrificing their own daughters to extraplanar beings,” Zander Hoger makes a grimace of disgust. “Makes one want to burn the place down.”

“You wouldn’t be the first one to try, Xander,” Murphis Klar replies. “Both Medda and Tavvar Hamavsi let eldritch energies loose that could have destroyed the entire structure, or worse, the entire Wise Quarter. We don’t need to give the Peacebuilders any more ammunition against the Society.” Murphis slams their fist on the table in emphasis.

“Well, you know Nigel was an agent years ago. I heard he had some sort of mutual assistance agreement with a prior venture-captain, maybe even the Decemvirate. Important enough to send agents to one of Hestia Blakros’ daughters’ wedding. Sema Greensward sighs. “Now that’s a mission I’d enjoy going on. Think of the food!”

Quenila Nepsin shoulders her pack. “Personally, I’d prefer to be up at Iceferry Lodge right now--I hear Venture-Captain Torrsen and some Frostfurs found a pass into Irrisen, and I’d take the icy frontier over the museum any day. But we better go! Valsin doesn’t appreciate lollygaggers. If we don’t get to his office pronto, he may just assign us sewer duty.”

Groaning at the thought of delving into the subterranean depths of Absalom’s sewers, the group grabs their gear and leaves the room. The remaining agents look at each other, relief at not being chosen the foremost emotion in the room.

“Guess no one told them about the break-in at the museum a few weeks ago,” mutters one of the agents left behind.

We’ve got a fresh batch of scenarios this month! First, there’s Pathfinder Society Scenario 2-07: The Blakros Deception, a level 5–8 adventure by Charlie Brooks. The storied Blakros Museum has seen more than its fair share of misfortune over the years, and this scenario will give players a chance to investigate the institution for themselves. Meanwhile, it’s starting to get cold here in the Seattle area, but certainly not as chilly as in Irrisen, where Mikhail Rekun takes us for Pathfinder Society Scenario 2-08: A Frosty Mug. This level 5–8 adventure sees the PCs making their way into the Land of Eternal Winter, with directions to chart the pass and the lands beyond, encountering winter, magic, and inhabitants from a strange, faraway world.

Having had a preview already, these scenarios are excellent and I can't wait to for everyone to check them out. I predict that these will be very fun to GM. Also, I'd like to book a tour with Nigel, please. Thanks. ;)

I appreciate how the new Nigel art makes him even more punchable.

We apparently all have feelings about that Nigel art. They're just not all the same feelings.

Great, we're all off saving the world from the undead hordes and Nigel seized the opportunity to get a nose job.

Is it sad that my first thought is "which of the three break-ins I know about is that last comment in reference to? Or was there another one I don't know about?"

Ah, Nigel... your incompetence at keeping the museum safe would be endearing if it weren't so terribly dangerous...

I still say that the last 1e Blakros museum scenario wasn't even his fault! Heck, what happened the museum break in scenario was CLEARLY Pathfinders' fault for poking up Iobaria!

People are way too unfair towards Nigel :D #TeamNigel

Well in his defense his last major screw up was the Pathfinder Society's fault.

We're all just going to have to play the scenario to settle this, I suppose. :)

The secret that Nigel has kept forever, is that he ends up undead, and centuries from now reinvents himself as Zo!

I suspect ones attitude to Nigel is heavily influenced by how much of PFS1 you've played.

Even then, you tend to fall into one of two camps.

1) The museum is only as bad as it is because of Nigel.

2) The museum is only as bad as it is because of Nigel.

I haven’t decided which side of the argument I’m on yet. Maybe this new adventure will help me decide.

Hmm.. I don't see a difference between the two camps.

I could have sworn I recommended that Nigel be dismissed....

Well I must say, I've seen Nigel portrayed quite differently by different GMs. Some of the scenarios make him more sympathetic than others, and sometimes a GM whose mind has been set by one of the harsher scenarios will carry that forward into others. And then they basically trample all over the scenario's attempt to give him any chance to show a better side.

(That said, sometimes Nigel really doesn't show a good side.)

Easy!

In the first case, the museum would've been better off without him in charge.

In the second case, the museum would be far worse off if he wasn't in charge.

Or was it the other way around?

What we really need is an adventure where Nigel takes a vacation, and we've been asked to curate the Museum full time in his place.

Hmm

PS There was one other November PF adventure released this month by Organized Play, Bounty #4: Cat's Cradle. It's short but sweet!

Ah! Good old "walking into someone else's shoes to know them better"! :P

Of course, the museum would blow up or something during that time.

The museum always blows up! That's what happens when the premise is, "Hey, let's display all the cursed artifacts in the same place!"

I actually feel for the guy, though he did make a classic mistake. You're not just marrying one person, you're marrying the whole family.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #2-30: A Week in the Shoes of Nigel

Nigel Aldain rage-quits the Blakros Museum and the Pathfinder Society has been tasked with filling the void he left behind. One board member insists on displaying pre- and post-cyclopean Iobarian relics in the same room, while another board member insists that all the pre-cyclopean relics be housed with its temporal contemporaries. Meanwhile, the Blakroses are applying pressure to raise the price of admission to cover soaring healthcare costs for the staff. Can the Pathfinders manage to balance the museum budget, broker an exhibit hall compromise, and stay awake through a full board meeting?

Primary Success condition: The PCs strangle one or fewer board members. Each PC earns 4 Reputation for the Thankless Taskforce faction.

Secondary Success conditions: The PCs earn an additional 2 Reputation for the Thankless Taskforce faction if they complete 2 of the following: reduce unexplained staff deaths by 15%, telling Hamaria Blakros off, or strangling zero board members.

Excellent point, Hmm. Please check out Hilary's bounty, which features a dash of whimsy and a fun, unique encounter :)

You people are joking, but "Put PCs in role of people they complain about" tends to be really popular type of PFS scenario xD

But yeah, I hope veteran players really go to this scenario with open mind :p

This was fun to run. The format really set up the final encounter which was the party having to make choices. It was not a black and white thing, but rather a bit dodgy due to the shadowy nature of the situation the agents uncovered...if they actually did uncover anything. Wheels within wheels!
