Pathfinder Society Pregen Debut!

Wednesday, July 31, 2019

Pregenerated characters. Those iconic heroes who often serve as the first introduction for people to play Pathfinder. They’re here. Or at least, the first batch of them. The level 1 versions of Amiri, Ezren, Fumbus, Harsk, Kyra, Lem, Lini, Merisiel, Sajan, Seoni, and Valeros, along with the level 5 versions of Amiri, Ezren, Fumbus, Kyra, Merisiel, and Valeros.

Why only 6 level 5s and no other levels, you might ask? It’s because pregens are cursed. I’m telling you, disappearing documents, spreadsheets randomly overwriting themselves, John forgetting that he’d put “Prettiest Kitty” as a placeholder for Droogami’s background until it showed up on his desk for final approvals (who were we to question John’s knowledge and experience?). The process definitely seemed like a comedy of errors at times, yet it also included many invaluable collaboration and review steps that resulted in 18 exceptional characters.

But they’re here, and they’re ready to throw down PF2 style! The 5th-level iconics are also going to be taking on Pathfinder Society Scenario #1-00: Origins of the Open Road, premiering at GenCon. And if you’re not going to be playing 1-00, or if you want to spend a little time at 1st level and get used to the new rules, we’ve got a repeatable quest and scenarios galore to try out all the iconic characters.

How did Sajan get Tiger Style, a ki power, and proficiency with his temple sword at 1st level you might ask? Let’s just say it’s humanly possible. Why does Fumbus get more adorable every time you pick up his character sheet? I don’t have an answer for that. But I can tell you that Valeros has traded out his Sudden Charge feat from the playtest and has rediscovered his two-weapon fighting skills, now blending shield boss and longsword for all your bashing and slashing needs!

Linni, the iconic gnome druid, and her snow leopard companion Droogami.

He’ll always be Prettiest Kitty in our hearts.

Have fun everyone! We’ll be looking at rolling out pregenerated characters to cover a few more tiers of play in the months ahead, so just enjoy these heroes for the time being and before you know it we’ll have a whole new batch for you to poke, prod, and give feedback on. Speaking of, please send all feedback directly to: john.compton@paizo.com

Huzzah!

But the blog makes it sound like there should be a download or something here?

I'm sure they are scrambling on a lot of things right now. It is almost 11pm at GenCon :)

I'm looking forward to it, but I can be patient. They have to stick the landing on the biggest launch they've done in 10 years at the busiest convention in the tabletop gaming industry.

That said, no Seelah the Champion? Rar! *gnashes teeth*

:)

In the artwork above, Droogami looks quite upset with the nickname. Even Lini is calming him down and holding him back.

how do you get the pregens? I don't see a link anywhere

Maybe we're meant to email John for them :P

Hopefully someone will fix the missing link soon.

They aren't on Community Use with the other Pregens and I see no Link here.

Grand Lodge 4/5 ** Venture-Agent, Colorado—Denver

Lol. No Guide to OP. No pregens. Maybe GenCon is a huge Hallucinatory Terrain.

Well, at least the scenarios were released on time. That's all I need for this weekend.

Sovereign Court 2/5

Have you received the Scenarios as a VA yet? I haven't.

Nope, me neither. Though they are available for purchase already- they just haven't been sent out to the VOs who kinda need them.

But hey, priorities, right?

RIP Seelah :P

Can we get a link please?

I wonder if we'll get the emails tomorrow evening. It would be nice to have them early enough to read them before we start offering them on Tuesday.

We are running a pop-up gencon event in Denver and have just a demo and 1 hour quest. Scenarios won’t drop til later today as far as I know!

Not to mention the trouble we'll have downloading them if we do get them, since the site always implodes during GenCon, especially with the traffic 2e will inevitably create. I expect to spend a lot of the day hitting 'refresh' and hoping for the best.

I think they just forgot to list her. He says there are 18 pregens, but only lists 17.

There was a hyperlink in the blog that was supposed to open up straight to the pregen files, I'll do a little digging and see what happened.

Yeah, there's a level 1 Seelah.

Thanks, Mike! I know this dropped when the entire team was at the GenCon V-O volunteer meeting... thanks for getting on it with what must be too little sleep!

I'm also Demoing PF2 and will be usingQuest 1A: The Sandstone Secret.

I purchased the map associated with it but need to get the scenario to prep because nothing is less appealing to a new audience than someone trying to showcase a product and being unfamiliar with it and its system.

Hey guys - anyone have a link to these mythical pregens? We really do want to give the Pop Up customers a good event.

There is a link on the latest blog post, but it reverts back to the Paizo main page, so it looks like the link is broken.

Your local VC/VL should have been sent some of that stuff if you're in a region for a Pop Up Gen Con. I was sent an NDA so I'm not sure what is covered and what isn't, so unfortunately I cannot share what I have.

So how the heck do we get these level 1 and level 5 pregen characters? I cannot find them anywhere in this blog post or on the paizo website.

Grand Lodge 4/5 ** Venture-Agent, Colorado—Denver

I'm guessing everything will be fixed by tomorrow afternoon.

Well, you did mention that pregens were cursed.

Hey folks, there is just a skeleton crew in the office this week, and none of us directly worked with these files, so we're trying to hunt down the problem and get it fixed while everyone else is at Gen Con selling you books and handing out buttons.

Once we get it sorted out, we'll update both this blog and the P2 launch blog to correct the broken links.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, and for supporting Pathfinder Second Edition and Pathfinder Society!

Looks like it's working now:

It does if you remove the space from the address

The forum is adding the space for some reason.

That is much better. The original link took me to a blog page that still has a bad link on it.

Thanks!

As has been mentioned, the product is now live on the site, and we're adding the link to it to the blog text.

Thanks for looking into it. You were not kidding about the iconics being cursed.

At first glance, magic still looks underwhelming. Nothing more to say until I review the final game, but a little disappointed.

Okay so I added the pregens to my downloads but I can't find them on my downloads page. What are they under?

Under "Paizo Inc: Community Use"

You'll see "Iconic Pregenerated 2e Characters" or something like that.

Thank you. I finally found it. I wasn't expecting it in Community Use even though that is where all but the playtest pregens are downloaded from so I'm chalking it up to brain fart and a half.

Just taking a quick glance at these, and noticed Seelah has a typo. I'm pretty sure her paladin code should have the word "never" before "abandon a companion in need".

She's a "champion" now! Priorities changed!

Other typos/errors worth noting:

-Amiri's level 1 version doesn't indicate Nature as Trained, though the bonus is right.

-Fumbus is listed with 4.7 Bulk. By the core rulebook, his items should total to 6.6 Bulk (7.5 if his waterskin is full). This would make him very encumbered, so either the pregen is wrong or the rulebook is.

Is Ezren missing a Wizard feat? He has:
The base one (Widen Spell)
Arcane Thesis - Metamagic Experimentation (Reach Spell)

But should also have:
Universalist Wizard (???)

It says that Amiri is trained in "Tanning lore". If so, why is she so pale!

She's trained in the lore so she's aware of the health risks.
