Age of Ashes Player’s Guide

Monday, July 29, 2019

The Age of Ashes Player’s Guide gives players everything they need to create characters for their adventures through Hellknight Hill and beyond. Within this spoiler-free guide, you’ll find:

Ages of Ashes Player's Guide cover image: Merisiel faces off against a skull-headed opponent in imposing black plate armor, while Kyra raises a holy symbol defiantly in the background and a fearsome red dragon looms over the right side of the image.
  • Recommendations for alignments, ancestries, classes, languages, Lore skills, and religions that make good choices for the Age of Ashes Adventure Path
  • Nine new backgrounds, like dragon scholar, Hellknight historian, and local scion.
  • A gazetteer of the town Breechill, including a map detailing popular businesses, temples, NPCs, and landmarks.
  • An overview of downtime in the adventure path, plus an all-new downtime activity made specifically for the campaign.

The Age of Ashes approaches and only you can prevent it!

Looks like everyone who downloaded the broken version isn't getting the fixed version. :(

I don't see a link. Being fixed still I guess?

EDIT: Ha... nevermind. Guess I failed my Intelligence check haha. ^_^;;

This looks good!

I just downloaded it. Link worked for me and the PDF opens just fine. This leads me to believe the issues have been fixed.

Hmmm, wonder if it will be PFS sanctioned :o

I'm still not able to open it. I tried initially, then again just now. Either it hasn't been fixed or my downloads page is still linking to the broken version.

I was just wondering about this!! Awesome!

I am hoping to run this AP for a group I have with 3 10-12 year old players.

Will there be any content that could be considered objectionable by their parents that I would need to clear with them first? The Players guide is a bit more vague without all of the Favored Enemy, animal companion etc info that was in the PF1 guides.

Thank you paizo for the players guide!

That might be why I got it as soon as it was fixed. When I saw the ridiculously small file size, I didn't bother to download it.

Anyway, Katina Davis has some comments about the situation on the product page for the Player's Guide.

I like it. Campaign specific Backgrounds work very well and the campaign seems very interesting.

While I haven't spoiled myself yet, I know the subject matter concerns Hellknights, and hence Cheliax. Unless there have been some very serious changes to that nation between 1e and 2e, Cheliax is kinda the definition of non kid friendly...

Isger is really more of backwater vassal state of Cheliax. It's not exactly Egorian or Westcrown.

Also, unless you go really in-depth, Cheliax is actually really easy to make 'kid friendly' for any kid who their parents would let watch Legend or Hellboy.

Cheliax has got bad stuff in it, sure, but emphasizing them as the bad guys who deal with Devils without exploring the implications of that or the non-kid friendly stuff is actually pretty easy.

(Posted in 2 places, since this seems to have 2 threads) This guide arrived fast.

*sees the dragon scholar background*... welp I found my background, that's one thing done. Now to find a group.

With both the AP and the stand-alone "The Fall of Plaguestone" taking place in Isger: are they somehow connected?

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I'm not personally seeing a connection. Only part 1 primarily takes place in Isger, and it's mostly confined to the town of Breachill.

Got it! Must've been getting the cached download before, but after closing the browser and turning off the computer for the night, I got it first try this morning.

Grand Lodge

It's the smallest complaint ever, but I do wish the three-portrait cover style had been maintained. It has proven useful in sparking ideas for PCs.

Love the panoramic shots of settlements, and I totally understand how difficult they are to pull off, but I'm sure somebody was pretty mad when the one on page 7 came back.

How so?

I think the issue is that the six depicted water towers are supposed to be the six described wells in the "Monument Circle" entry.

Unless Breachill just demands exceptional water pressure...

Pathfinder Adventure, Adventure Path, Companion, Lost Omens, Maps, Rulebook Subscriber

But they can't really be wells because they're over Breach Creek. They have to be fountains or pump heads of some kind (and the area is called Fountain Circle at one point in the adventure). My guess is the map/picture came back different from the description, and they had to reconcile the text with the art.

The six water towers are supposed to be water towers, not wells. The art is correct (and delightful). The text slipped through the cracks.

Nope. We just wanted to give Isger a bit more attention.

Feels like it was a bit of blank slate. Also a great place to introduce new Goblin PCs.

I love it so far and can't wait to run it! All these NPC voices in my head are demanding to get out!
