Caverns of Azlantia

Game Master Dread

Hidden away in the jungles of the Mwangi Expanse, the crumbling ruins of the ancient Azlanti people, known as Azlantia, has remained unknown....until now. An Explorer dying from a strange disease has surfaced in Bloodcove. His fevered ramblings of treasure, Beast-Men serving a Minotaur King, Lizard-Folk in direct rebellion to the King, a Death Cult trying to find secrets long buried, rumors of an ancient evil waiting release and more perk the attention of those who are intrepid enough to face these dangers to find the secrets of the Caverns of Azlantia.

Are you brave enough?

Sorry for the delay. If Doc Occ moves north does he still need to make another reflex save? My intention would be to move him across and try the door Arronus mentioned.

Dr Ocellus gave Urtar a sympathetic look, "Not entirely sure I'd recommend crossing, well at least not the way I did!"

No Doc Occ is across the pit.

Sparkwing's reaction to defend Gideon...

attack vs AC 10 to increase Gideon's AC by 2 against first incoming melee attack from enemy Talon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Gideon has +2 AC against first incoming melee attack this round.

Sparkwing's full attack against enemy that gets into melee with Gideon (use bite attack only if Gideon moves, as Sparkwing is staying with Gideon to defend him until Jack tells him otherwise)...

bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
bite damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3 B/P/S

Jack, deducing if there is any chance to calm the large bat, it would be before it attacks or one of the group attacks it, whistles in a way he hopes is a soothing effect on the large flying creature...

1st round of attempting wild empathy on the dire bat.

wild empathy check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
If typical dire bat with typical Cha score and typical starting attitude of unfriendly (working with it being wild animal and not it being an animal that has been domesticated)...the DC Jack would need to meet or beat to improve its attitude towards him is 18.

Not good enough to improve its attitude (unless it started as indifferent), but did not fail by 5 or more, so still unfriendly....

@GM: do you want me to roll wild empathy checks at beginning of the minute?

if the bear breaks through the door and comes after him or pursues Triari...

Gideon swipes at the bear as it moves through his attack range (AOO)

If the bear continued after Triari...

"Keep working it fellas, I don't want to give up this position for fear the bear will come through!" Gideon calls out as he rushes around the corner intent on closing the distance with the bear to assist Triari.

Gideon has a 20' move so if it is sufficient to get an attack in on the bear use the above attack.

If the bear does not break through the door...

"Triari, get back here! You guys," he says glancing over his shoulder, "Get over here as quick as you can!" Gideon calls out and prepares to cut into the bear as soon as it gets within striking distance.

With a readied action I should get an attack on it for moving into my threatened range and then get an attack of opportunity for it trying to move through my threatened range. Use the previous attack rolls.

Crazy day at my household, meant to edit the talking pieces but the plan is the same.

As Doc runs by Gideon cheers him on, "Go get 'em doc. The rest of you, if you can make it across please do so. I'll need help with this bear when it breaks through."

The Deathwalker in front of Arronus jumped forward with his spear , which was blocked by a flick of Arronus blade.

The native behind him threw a javelin at the elf passing over his head and hitting the wall behind him, chipping some plaster off it...to reveal a wood panel behind the plaster.

The native next to him threw a 2nd javelin at the Elf with the straw puppet. This Javelin struck the elf in the chest, bruising his ribs as it bounced off his armor and landed on the floor.

The last stabbed his spear out at Arronus This time the spear slashed across Arronus arm, leaving a cut near to the bone.

Dr. Ocellus ran around the corner and came up to bolster Arronus attempt to take the doorway.

Arronus slashes out with his sword, but its deflected by the natives shield. His skeletal servant in a frenzy of bony hands reaching out, manages to claw the native in from of him a bit.

Suddenly with a crash the door holding the ravenous cave bear bursts open. The bear bumbles out and catches his bearing, and moves forward to square off with Gideon as fauchard cuts into his back.

I couldnt make sense of the roll from this round, so I used the AoO of the round before.

Sparkwing hovering above Gideon, flew down flapping his wings and scratching t the bear, working to distract him.

+2 to Gideons AC next round

Jack watched the disturbed bat and sees its not hostile, more like annoyed at the noise and light. Its flight is erratic. It might be provoked to attack. Its just more likely to knock anyone off the 20' bridge span between the covered area he and Urtar stood and the hall, Gideon stood in.

Urtar screamed back at Arroneus and looked around. seeing metal loops pounded in either side of the pit on the stonework of the bridge that a rope could be slipped through, to the left and right. That would make it easy to cross. He also surmised that the pitfall could probably be closed if worked right.

Gideon slashed out again at the bear. This time it struck a glancing blow to the giant animal took first number in that string.

Flash brayed again. Unsure of his actions.

With the light gone, the bats were merely restless from the noise. With the single bat flying to and from, Jack estimated there was only about a 10% chance someone crossing would be struck and possible knocked over the edge of the bridge.

"By Jove that bear is massive!" exclaimed Dr Occellus when Arronus suggested he help out with the bear. He seriously doubted his ability to do anything more than seriously annoy the bear before it ripped him to shreds so instead he threw one of his rapidly diminishing supply of alchemist's fires at one of the wounded deathwalkers. It was a well judged throw that landed spack in the face of the wounded man who horribly went up like a candle.

The deathwalkers had the look of fear on their faces that tightened with every growl of the bear. They wanted badly to shut those doors that Arronus and his skeletal friend were stopping.

Once more they focused their attacks on the elf as two javelins flew towards him and two spear thrusts stabbed out. The little straw rat was performing antics on his shoulder that successfully distracted his onlookers a few times as the javelins flew past chipping away at the plaster behind the elf and the good doctor. Both spear strikes went awry. rolls on roll20

Dr. Ocellus looked at those in the back throwing javelins and guaged their wounds, pulling an alchemist fire out and throwing it at the most injured and watched him burst into flames and fall to the ground. Hot jellied flaming syrupy like substance splashed out on the three other natives.

Arronus then told Doc Ocellus to help Gideon and leave the deathwalkers to him as he watched the skeleton once more claw a gash into the man., though he was still standing Until Arronus cut him down with his longsword and stepped over the body.

The bear focused all of its attention on the man who had cut his back, swiping with one big claw, and then the other grabbing the warrior as the claws tore flesh and the bite bit into his neck. Blood spattered the hall as Gideons body went limp and the fauchard fell to the hallway. He was held in the bears grasp unconscious for the moment while his lifes blood poured out of him.

Sparkwing lit into the bear, wings beating, talons clutching, beak pecking and manages to slightly injure the beast.

Jack tried to calm the bat, as he watches the bear tear into Gideon.

Gideon continues to bleed, his body failing to stop on its own. roll on roll20. you can make your next roll Gideon

You're rolling too well for that bear. You need some 2s and 3s in there.

Seeing the bear drop Gideon. Gideon is too far away for him to magically stabilize his wounds, so he focuses on the bear instead, steps to the right and shoots an arrow at the bear, being careful so he does not hit Sparkwing or Gideon.

shortbow: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 4 = 14

The arrow bounces harmlessly of the bear's protruding bony plating.

"Urtar, what do you think the chances are the bear would fall through the gap in the bridge if it charges us?"

Deferred action: If the bear moves away from Gideon:
Dr Ocellus gulped upon seeing what happened to poor Gideon, "Oh my!"

He had a curative potion on his bandoleer but he needed to wait for the bear to move before administering it. Once the bear had moved away, he rushed over and tried to force it down Gideon's throat.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

I forgot if you can draw a potion from a bandoleer move and administer it all in one round. If not Doc Occ will do as much as he can this round and administer the potion next round.

yes Arronus. I've been saying that the javelin that missed have been chipping off plaster . Now enough of the plaster is gone to expose the what was a secret door. Now it's not secret anymore.

Also please Doc Occ...what are you going to do if the bear comes your way. The bandolier allows drawing a potion as a free action

If the Bear goes for DocOcc:
Doc Occ summed his feelings up with "$@$%!" as the bear went for him. He briefly thought about flinging his tanglefoot bag at the bear, but he knew the glue could be broken via brute strength and the bear looked mighty strong. No he would go down fighting, spade in hand!

Spade of doom: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Apparently DocOcc's doom as dicebot has it in for him.
