Without her regeneration, the troll begins to worry. Also, she's short on her best spells, and distraught at four Pathfinders lined up without a way to zap them all.

"Urxehl! Thy servant has traversed Nar-Voth to realize thine visions of bringing doom to the Farheaven Clan! Grant me power unincomparable!"

But no such power comes. After tunneling through miles and miles of sheer stone, she will fall, less than 100 feet from her destination.

1d5 ⇒ 2

"From hell's heart, I stab at thee. For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee." She reaches forward to attack Isaku.

Claw: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (4) + 20 = 24

Claw, agile: 1d20 + 20 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 20 - 4 = 21
Slashing: 3d6 + 8 ⇒ (2, 6, 2) + 8 = 18

Then, she turns around, and tunnels through her last 5' of stone. This is movement, so OAs.

Also, assuming that someone deactivates her regeneration, I will likely call the fight after this round. She's just a punching bag at this point, and she'd need 20 actions to finish tunneling.

She does have an OA and 10' reach, though.

"I'm melting away ... I'm melting away ..." the champion of Urexhl whimpers, as she burns from acid.

Combat over! Legitimately, too!

Several druids from above come down to explain that the surface attack has been broken. They had no idea what was going on down here, but your success here reflected on their battle above.

The Pathfinders return to the surface to meet with the leaders of the Farheaven Clan, the dawn cinematically breaking just as the Pathfinders reach the surface.

The Sarkorians rout the rest of the fiendish attackers, and Dolok Darkfur completes his ritual, fully restoring a natural vibrancy to the soil within the camp. Beyond the borders of the river, the profane fires die down, and some small shoots break through the blackened topsoil for the first time in generations.

The eidolon meets with the Pathfinders as soon as he recovers from the all-night ritual, thanking them for their aid in repelling the demons and pledging his support to saving the possessed Decemvirate member. He invokes the many debts the Farheaven Clan owes the Pathfinder Society and expresses an eagerness to repay them for their past and present support.

End of scenario!

After 8 days of travel, the Pathfinders, feeling stronger and more powerful than ever before, gather around table sporting a huge map of the Finadar Forest just outside the central command tent.

Eando Kline of the Vigilant Seal faction steps out of the tent, holding the canvas flap open for his guests: a woman wrapped in Sarkorian furs, and a ten-foot-tall black bear with a mantle of multicolored feathers growing across his shoulders.

The Pathfinders will readily recognize the woman as Nelket, and the bear as Dolok Darkfur. Art is on Slide 3.

The three move around a large table adorned with a map of the surrounding landscape that indicates Pathfinder teams positioned throughout the wilderness.

Thank you for joining us,” Eando says, his voice low and determined. “Your bravery in the Sarkoris Scar has earned us quite a few favors with the Farheaven Clan, and we're cashing in one of those favors right away. An evil spirit that once resided in the nearby ruined city has possessed a member of the Decemvirate. This member is known to you as Sapphire. The spirit has used Sapphire as a vessel to carry out preparations for a ritual that we suspect would lead to worldwide catastrophe if completed. Our divinations have failed to locate Sapphire, and we lack the numbers to search all the possible sites where this ritual might be enacted before it’s too late.

Fortunately, we might have a solution,” Nelket cuts in. “My ancestors used rituals to give physical form to the wishes and ideals of the clan, manifesting as deities to lead us — including Dolok Darkfur. By reframing one of these rituals, we can convert Dolok’s body back into a part-living, part-intention entity; a kind of ‘aspirational spirit.’

That form will allow me to locate Sapphire, whose body contains two divergent spirits wrestling for control,” Dolok continues. “If I give Sapphire the upper hand, it could give us a chance to save them. I can also create a beacon the Pathfinder Society can use to track down Sapphire’s possessed body.

Eando points to the map. “When Dolok’s beacon appears, our field agents spread across the region can converge on the site and secure it. You are among the most veteran Pathfinders here ..."

Historical context: 2-22 was the first ever Level 7-10 scenario, so the level 9s would have been unprecedented at the time.

"... so we need you to help Dolok and Nelket complete the ritual, then reinforce the first responders and exorcise the evil spirit — without killing Sapphire, if possible. Make any preparations you deem necessary, then meet us here when you are ready to begin.

The whole party will Recall what happened in #2-20:

Urxehl is the demon lord of storms and natural disasters. He is known as the father of trolls, although some cyclopes also worshipped him near the end of the Koloran empire.

Urxehl’s faithful often strive to conjure cursed storms, with a rain of fire considered a sacred manifestation of their lord’s will.

If anyone would like to attempt a Society or Cyclops Lore check to know more about the city of Min-Khadaim, please post your modifier.

Also, feel free to ask any questions of Eando, Nelket, or Dolok.

Cal wanders back to the briefing after having checked out the Pathfinder encampment. He was looking for a snack and just happened to bump into one. The female catfolk agent stands with Cal at the briefing for a while before leaning in and whispering something to Cal with a barely audible giggle. The little gnome reaches up and strokes the soft fur at the back of her head then gives her a swift pat on the rump. She giggles again, rummages around in her pack, and hands him a scroll before dashing off under the scathing glare of Eando Kline.

"The ritual we’ve adapted for this task required lorekeepers to sing, dance, and extol the virtues of the Farheaven Clan while elders wove their magic. Any mystical training, athletic prowess, or cultural expertise can serve a similar purpose here. The more skillfully you contribute to the ritual, the more power Dolok should have available to lend you in your quest."

Callaverthorna wrote:
"So, Dolok, you'll become a spirit-thing for this. Will you be able to turn back when it's over?"

"Yes, but I'll need at least a shred of energy remaining to retake my physical form. I'll make the sacrifice if necessary - our common goal is the primary objective, and I can lend you my strength to overcome any obstacles in your way. Use my power as you see fit, but you might need my help most when confronting Sapphire."

Mechanically, you will be helping Dolok and Nelket complete the aspirational state ritual. Dolok is the primary caster, and exactly three PCs (no more, no less) must be secondary casters, rolling Arcana, Athletics, Nature, Occultism, Performance, Religion, or Society. Please decide who is making the checks prior to making any checks.

The completed ritual tethers Dolok’s ethereal form to the goals of the ritual’s other participants, allowing the PCs to draw upon their combined power in pursuit of their common objective. This manifests as Aspiration Points, which the PCs accumulate through successes associated with the ritual and can spend over the course of the scenario. Dolok will need 1 Aspiration Point for him to spend at the end of the ritual, or else he will be trapped in the Ethereal Plane.

You will be earning Aspiration Points, which can be spent as follows:

#2-01: The PC witnessed Sapphire grappling with the spirit and got a sense of how this Decemvirate member fights back against their possessor’s influence. The PCs will gain the knowledge of how spending Aspiration Points (0-2) in a [hypothetical] battle will affect the Disciple of Urxehl’s defensive abilities.

#2-03: The PC’s prior forays through Min-Khadaim offer greater resiliency to the creatures inhabiting the ruins. The PCs gain the ability to spend 1 Aspiration Point to reduce the drained or slowed condition by 2.

#2-05: The Sewer Dragons’ account of Sapphire and the spirit merging provides insight into their bond. The PCs gain the knowledge of how spending Aspiration Points (0-2) in a [hypothetical] battle affects the Disciple of Urxehl’s actions.

#2-14: The PC gained intimate knowledge of how Urxehl’s influence affects the Material Plane. The PCs gain the ability to spend 1 Aspiration Point to grant all PCs resistance 10 against fire for 1 minute.

#2-18: The PC learned from Jadirahx what types of creatures were historically drawn to the cult of Urxehl in ancient Koloran. The PCs gain the ability to spend 1 Aspiration Point to make all of the PCs’ attacks deal 1 additional good damage for 1 minute.

The PCs share the Aspiration Points granted by aspirational state in a common pool, and this will be tracked in the header. A PC can spend an Aspiration Point as a free action to gain the benefit for themself, unless otherwise stated. Effects from Aspiration Points don’t stack, but PCs can select the same effects repeatedly.

Eando asks the team to exorcise the possessing spirit before the storm sets the entirety of the Finadar Forest ablaze with its demonic powers.

I will assume you accept, or else that's, uh, the end of the scenario. You will have to cross open ground exposed to the firestorm. This functions as two rounds of the firestorm performing its routine before the PCs reach the beacon’s location. Each PC can attempt a single skill check on each of these rounds to mitigate the risk to themselves: Acrobatics to evade the fire, Abyss Lore to uncover patterns in the storm, or Survival to take advantage of the surrounding terrain and find usable cover.

Each skill check covers approximately 2.5 minutes of time, so if you have spells that you'd cast to help, you can do so. Although, friendly GM warning, the events of this scenario all take place in one day, so watch your spell slots.

"Looks like it's time to earn me keep," Cal tells the halfling girl on his arm as he returns to the senior agents' team. "Off with ya' now," he says with a kiss on the top of her head - a rare occurrence for one of his stature.

He goes through some motions to limber up, but it's just an act- he doesn't really know what he's doing and just makes it look good. Then he starts off after Eliadyr. "Oy, take it slow boyo, it's no race ya' know," he says with a laugh.

We're rolling right into the next encounter, which I still need to set up, but I'm going to post the box text now. Herr Doktor will be down 2 versatile vials from the soothing elixirs, but everyone is at max hit points.

The Pathfinders arrive at the Khadaim Colossus, a massive statue of a robed female cyclops in a half-kneeling position, holding an offering bowl up to the western heavens. Over a hundred feet tall, it holds an immense stone bowl aloft just above its head. Built into the statue’s left knee is an impressive stone door entry, while the entire right leg is a shattered mess of broken chunks of stone that ascends up to the chest of the immense structure.

See Slide 4 for art.

The entire area has bright light from the fires, with sunlight unable to penetrate the dense clouds.

Between the base of the Colossus and 80 feet above ground, the winds interfere with physical ranged attacks like arrows, imposing a –1 circumstance penalty on such attacks.

The winds are difficult terrain to Flying creatures, and Maneuvering in Flight within requires an Acrobatics check.

(he/him) | Troubles in Otari | 2-24 | 1-24 | Icons: ◆◇↺

See Slide 5. The raised areas are shaded purple - light for +10', heavy for +20'. The Colossus part is inaccessible.

Four powerful undead creatures loiter on the statue, ready to prevent the Pathfinders from reaching the entrance. They are all the same creature, although two (Red, Yellow) appear to be Elite. They'll have different ACs, HPs, and initiatives, but I'll allow a single Recall Knowledge for both sets.

GM Screen:
