Momoring does a little dance...
Still need to update profile to L5
Castana Fatris |
Apologies for the character switcheroo - finally settled on a character after having to play musical chairs with nearly all my characters in tier as the 5-6s are getting split between other games. My L8 operative is in another game. So I pick my L8 envoy....and realise I gave her the GM credit for this particular scenario last month.
Oof.
So here's my L7 solarian. But reviewed everything, updated most gear, save the one piece I couldn't afford atm. Ready to go now. And we are still in low tier, thankfully. Didn't want to be *that* person.

IIRC, last time I played with Momo, the mission was to the missing Struggle's Scholar, and that (spoilers for 1-04 behind link) turned out great for Momo.
And now, we're heading to another creepy abandoned ship, presumably also full of all manner of unpleasantness?
Momo sure has a type, doesn't she LaughingAndCrying.jpeg
AbadarCorp Entertainment |
Yeah, somebody out there has it out for poor Momo and sends her on all these creepy space missions...
Alkekenji |
Oh dang, just realised - as of Enhanced, there's a new blindsense I can staple onto my khizar monstrosity! Mua ha ha, the senses must flow!
BRB, Alkekenji's off for a quick spot of brain surgery before we deploy :D (if that's ok.)
Alkekenji |
I think it's fair to say, we are crushing these Culture rolls XD
Alkekenji |
Hmm, guess I should finalise boons.
Boons
Personal: Khizar Admittance
Faction: Exo-Guardians Champion (Regain 1 Resolve on Crit or Life Sci)
Promotional: t-shirt re-roll
Ally: Elite Hireling (Diplomat)
Social: Faction's Friend (from 1-01)
Starship: Star Monster Slayer
Slotless: Starfinder Insignia
Marked Field Agent
Psychic Resilience (x1/scenario, Adv on Fear save)
Polyfluid Understanding
Oh - hey - speaking of, what Ally Hireling should I bring? Alkekenji has both the Tech Support (Computers, Engieering, Physical Science) and Diplomat (Diplomacy, Bluff, Intimidate) hirelings; are we critically lacking in either skill set? We have Flenn as a Mechanic, so I assume computers/engineering are covered...I'll go for the Diplomat, unless anyone thinks that's not wise?
Alkekenji |
I've got Diplo 17/Bluff 11/Intimidate 12. But really it is your call.
Hmm....okay. I'm going to swap to the Tech Support Hireling then (as long as it's not too late by phaeton_nz) with the reasoning being that it's easier to Aid Anothed on the can-be-done-untrained Cha skills, than it is for the cannot-be-done-trained Tech Support skills.
phaeton_nz |
No ... not yet. When I played this, it was a bit later than this point that Scottermander Tracy got Brains as a hireling.
Flenn |
I don't particularly agree with Flenn's approach, but when the GM says use either Intimidate or Survival, you go with what you got. :)

Lol, amen on player knowledge vs character knowledge. As a player I know that ghosts often react violently and unhappily when confronted with their, uh, life-challenged status, and the best strategy is to usually try and figure out what's keeping their soul tethered to the Material Plane, and try to address that.
But Kenji doesn't know that, so, they're sitting back and letting the Talky-Talkers do their thing, hoping they don't have to fight a fellow, albeit dead, Exo-Guardian XD
Half the Sky |
Hah, no issue as a player here. The dynamic is amusing. Though I was actually not aware that ghosts react violently when confronted with their undead status. I avoided telling directly because I thought I'd be insulting their intelligence. *cringes*
At least in Pathfinder 2e Society scenarios that I have played in S3/S4 they seem aware they are dead, at least that is how they were portrayed, so I just assumed the same was such in Starfinder. Clearly that's not the case. Whoops. facepalm
The more you know...
Castana being a solarian will just talk and try and do her diplomat thing but yeah.
Flenn |
It depends on the situation. In this case, she was trying to use the hand scanner, so clearly wasn't up to speed on her situation. Even in Pathfinder, a lot of the haunts an such that you encounter don't necessarily know they're dead, and are fixed in loops tied to the past or something. I have run into a few Pathfinder encounters where once a spirit realizes everyone they cared about is dead ... roll initiative. :)
Alkekenji |
Yeah, this is definitely "meta-knowledge," but in my experience, ghosts come in two flavours:
1. Self-aware ghosts that are perfectly aware and accepting of their unalive status, but for whatever reason, are unable to Cut Ties on their own. They tend to be upfront with adventurers and heroes, asking for help to Move On. Usually they've been around for a while, and stuck on the Material Plane long enough to understand what's happening and process their grief.
2. Confused, unaware, ghosts that have no clue what's going on; these are the ones that can react violently and dangerously. They tend to be 'newer' to undeath, but not always. They're often unpredictable and volatile - which, you know, makes sense. I would be, too, if I were just trying to do my job and save my friends, but the damned keyboard wouldn't work no matter what! :D
There are, of course, exceptions to everything, though.
Castana Fatris |
Castana will lead the way into the Revelry.
I'm ready when you lot all are.
Leading, she will case the area as best as she can.
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Flenn |
I (as in the player) am failing my Will save vs. fear as I look at these Will save rolls.
Alkekenji |
Save us, Obi-Wan Castana, you're our only hope :D
Alkekenji |
Looks like I only have five PCs, not six. What happened to Luanna?
Apparently, out sixth player got lost in the Lorespire Complex's docking bays :D
Flenn |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Probably turned left at the Vat Gardens. Rookie mistake.
Or, of course, she could be *in* the Vat Gardens ... and maybe her ghost has been with us the whole time, without us knowing it ... *spooky whoo-hooo sound*
Alkekenji |
6, 1, 6, 5, 5...thanks, Dicebot :C
DICEBOT |
I'm sorry, but I'm better at making cupcakes. Here, have a free one!
Alkekenji |
DAMNIT DICEBOT not now!
:D

I've got a serum of healing for Aurinkar, unless somebody has a better idea to stop Aurinkar from dying. Sorry for keeping Momo out of the fight like that...
♫ Momo Slow
She found the right moment to stop the show
She's got all the moves
but with hesitation,
stop-and-go
You'd figure by now that she would know
She's moving too late, it's always so ♫
---Deedee Strawberry, unreleased
I also absolutely love the idea that this encounter is in the safe hands of an astrophysics expert :-P
Flenn |
I would think a serum would probably work. And no need to apologize, since you're the one actually with the skills to neutralize the major threat.
