Looking over my CS, I think I want to drop Acrobatics for now and swap it out with Stealth if that's ok. Scoundrels are awfully squishy and being able to hide might be necessary.

Edit: For some reason the site won't let me post my character sheet in my profile, so I'm posting it here again, for safe keeping. :)

BACKGROUND:

Backstory/Description:
Jaath Rhendal was raised in relative comfort and privilege by his father, an engineering administrator at the Imperial shipyards near ….(TBD). Though his mother died when he was quite young, Jaath and his brother faired rather well, and unlike many, didn’t really experience the downside to the changeover to the New Order. Jaath learned a good deal about ships and piloting there, and actually intended to join the Imperial Navy at some point.
That all changed when Jaath met Telzha, an inspiring young woman from Twi’lek who was protesting against the Empire. (It’s always about a girl, right?) He was smitten and after a month or so was introduced to several of her comrades who were in actuality resistance fighters with plans to work some sabotage at the shipyards. Telzha opened the young Rhendal’s eyes to the evil and cruelty of the Empire. She made and emotional appeal for Jaath to use his influence with his father to gain access to some of the security codes at the base, and surprising even himself, Jaath was considering it.
However, unbeknownst to any of them, word had reached Jodd Rhendal through Imperial security forces about rumors of Jaath’s involvement with “unsavory” types. Jaath’s father had made plans to have the resistance members arrested, hoping to keep his son and more importantly, the family name, out of suspicion of disloyalty to the Empire.
Telzha and about half of her followers escaped, leaving Jaath behind with harsh words, thinking that he had betrayed them.
Returning home, Jaath argued with his father who was freely admitting his actions, claiming that he had save his son from being incarcerated, and tha it was all for his own good. A week later, Jaath gathered what resources he personally owned and booked passage away from the shipyards…and he has never looked back.

Three people your character knows:
1.Telzha Rith - Twi'lek girl who opened his eyes to the evils of the Empire and his father’s place in all that. Taught him much of what he knows about being a Scoundrel. The two were growing romantically close when she abandoned Jaath, Jaath later learned that hi father reported her to the Imperials to get her away from his son.. Current status unknown.
2. Vhoe Bokk - Cerean gambler that Jaath currently owes a favor in lieu of paying 10,000 credits instead. They’d both been swindled by a Rodian in a game of Sabacc, so Vhoe gave Jaath a “deal” to eventually work off his debt instead…somehow.
3. Shaan Rhendal - Jaath’s privileged younger brother currently living with family, torn between loyalty to Jaath and to their parents.
4. Jodd Rhendal - Jaath’s father, (married to step-mother Maeyris) Shipyard Administrator in good standing with the Empire (Location and site TBD by GM)
Short-term goals you want your character to accomplish, such as buying an item, learning a Force Power, or something like that.
To find Telzha.
To get out from under the debt he owes Vhoe Bokk. (Possibly Long-term goal as well)
To learn to “speak” or at least understand Astromech droids.
Long-term goals you want your character to accomplish, such as buying a ship, getting an entourage/gang/squad, get rich, etc.
To earn enough to buy his own ship.
Convince his brother of the evils of the Empire, and free him from his father’s influence.
To redeem his family name outside of the Empire, and make amends for all the harm that the ships his father has built have done.
Non-tangible motivations, such as defend the weak, never tell a lie, and things like that.

—--------

Turning attention to the backstory: The Twi'lek homeworld is Ryloth, to help fill that in. I have several additional questions for expansion:
Why was Jaath at the protest to meet Telzha?
Jaath had been delivering a datapad of encrypted information to his father that had been forgotten at home that morning. Nothing classified or highly important, but something that his father had required. When Jaath was leaving the facility, he saw the protesters and like many curious young adults, he stopped to see what all the ruckus was about. He saw Telzha get shoved by some guards, and he stepped in to help her up, and was smitten. Her ego was more bruised than she was, and when more guardsmen showed up, they left together…and parted soon after.

How much time elapsed between meeting Telzha and meeting the resistance members?
They knew each other for a couple of weeks before she trusted him enough to introduce him, which coincided with her learning about his father’s position at the Shipyards. Coincidence? Maybe. Maybe not.

Did he and Telzha actually have a relationship, or was it purely one-sided?
There was definite flirting going on, though nothing was ever consummated. She might have real interest, but her ‘cause’ is more important to her than anything.

When his father arranged to have the resistance members arrested, did he have any actual charges to lay against them, or were the charges completely fabricated?
Actual charges against at least a couple of her group, but enough innuendo of espionage to try and round them all up.

Was he there when the security forces moved in to make the arrests, or did he find out about them later?
Raanth was with the resistance members, and technically taken into custody as well. However, no charges were filed, and he was released soon afterward…which is part of why Telzha accused him of being an undercover informant against them.
(Seriously, do whatever you want with all this. I’m open to any modifications you want to make. I just thought the idea was cool, overall. It’s all fair game.)

How did he meet Vhoe Bock?
Vhoe is a gambler who ran games in a nightclubs he owned. It was a nighttime spot where the adult-children of the Loyalist officers would hang out. Feel free to use him however you’d like.

Changes made”

Defense saves corrected.
Using “Force Perception” for talent.
Dropped Perception skill and added Knowledge (Bureaucracy). Wouldn’t have thought of it if you hadn’t brought up the blaster…might be handy to have in the game, and explainable due to his exposure to his Father’s work in the shipyards. Yes?
Added “Precise Shot” for Feat
Dropped the armor vest. Thanks for the heads up on that.
Dropping the hold out pistol. Rolled for the Know (Bureaucracy)

Phntm888:
Short term goals:
Find employment on a ship going out of the system.
Continue the search for who it's original purchaser was, by way of going to the factory on Affa where it was built.

Long term goals:
Find its previous owner to learn its history and purchase itself from them.
Purchase the T-6 shuttle it had been on and rebuild it. (or one like it)

Intangible Motivations:
Lem's knows it's memories and previous personality has been scrubbed. But it know it had those things due to residual sensations. One of which is a great appreciation for Corellian opera, which it will hum. Another is a great distrust for the Empire and a willingness to operate outside of it's laws. Lem also has a 'soft spot' for those who are called Jedi and it supects that his previous owner may have been one. Having spent several months adrift in the derilict T-6 shuttle it has aquired an odd fondness for it and fantizices about owning that one or one like it. He also preferes to be abourd ship or in orbit, no longer being fond of being 'on planet.'

Three people your character knows: These can be enemies, allies, or contacts your character trusts/mistrusts.
Hephaestus Falco and his grandaughter Suzzana, Human friends who it worked with for several months. They were alive when it left to go search for its information. Lem believes they are honest and would consider them friends.
Deel Doneeta, a Twi'lek businessman who it did odd jobs for, he was alive the last time it saw him. Lem knows Deel has his own interests at heart, and believes Deel would sell his own mother if it was profitable enough.

So a bit of a backstory, I do better pulling the lists if there is a backstory :)
Lem's T-6 was found adrift by a human named Hephaestus Falco (58) and his granddaughter Suzzanna (14) owners of the cargo ship 'Nobodies Business' They were flying Machinery parts to a independent contractor on Nopces Prime. In exchange for crewing up with them, they agreed not to sell it to the scrap yard they were taking the ship to. They sold the T-6 to a scrap yard owned by a blue skinned middle aged Twi'lek named Deel Doneeta.

Lem understood the laws of salvage and knew that Falco had every right to sell the T-6, and Deel had every right to do whatever he wanted with the ship. As such Lem spoke with Deel about purchasing the scrapped ship from him, when he had the money. Deel, seeing an opportunity, offered to hold onto the derelict ship if Lem would find specific parts for him; that way Lem could earn the ship back. Lem, happy to do so, started with a list of eighty-two parts Deel would be able to turn a profit on. When the 'Nobodies Business' was in port and Lem's responsibilities done, it would take its earnings and look for the items on Deel's list.

The 'Nobodies Business' ran a regular route from Nopces Prime to Chandrila to Corulag and back again. Moving mostly machinery parts, textiles and chemicals, the main exports from the three different systems. Along with wanting to rebuild the T-6 Lem desired to find out more about itself and it's previous owner. However none of the three systems Falco sailed had a Cybot Galactica distributor on them, but there was one on Brentaal IV. After several months of working on the 'Nobodies Business' and trading parts to Deel for credit towards the ship, Falco informed Lem that they were making a special run to Brentaal to deliver textiles for an upcoming festival. Lem was overjoyed, he could speak with the dealership on Brentaal and learn who his original owner was.

When the time came, they made the uneventful trip and Lem used its three day 'shore leave' to gather a few parts for Deel and go to the dealership and learn of his origins. Once at the robotics dealership after speaking with several layers of droids and people, Lem was finally given access to the information. 'No record.' It was as confusing to the droids who looked up the information as it was to Lem. Apparently, the information had been scrubbed from the computer records. After speaking with several more droids at the dealership, eventually one JN-66 analysis droid recommended the only solution would be to proceed to the manufacturing plant on Affa and look at the 'hard copy' of the order. Realizing the analysis droid was right, Lem returned to the 'Nobodies business' and informed Hephaestus and Suzzanna of his decision.

He would proceed to The Sel Zonn Station and find employment on a ship heading towards the Affa system. Of course the old captain explained it would take several ships and several jaunts to eventually work his way there, but Lem was no their property so it could do what it wanted. Lem gave the parts he'd acquired for Deel to Suzy telling her to let Dell know that if he had to sell the T-6 that Lem would understand. Bidding his new friends goodbye Lem boarded a shuttle headed for the station.

I think I have all the requested information. If you have any questions please ask. We've got something like thirty-three hours left, so were getting down to it. If I don't get a chance to say it later, thanks for running the game we players appreciate it. It looks like we've got several good applicants you've got your work cut out, good luck everyone and good gaming.

Still working on gear (there's a lot to learn in this new system), but I have the majority of her statblock and backstory done.

Any feedback is welcomed!

I don't know much about what languages to select, would you happen to have any advice on that?

I took a look at the R2-series astromech stat block, and it lists the astrogation buffer as a form of internal storage there. Let's price it the same as a Hidden Core - 200 credits for an Astrogation Buffer of 5. You can purchase it twice to get an Astrogation Buffer of 10.

Astrogation Buffer: This droid processor system is typically installed in astromech and piloting droids in order to ease hyperspace travel over normal routes. The astrogation buffer automatically stores all hyperspace routes the astromech calculates, up to the maximum size of the buffer. Older routes are automatically overwritten by newer routes unless the droid either chooses not to store a route or is ordered not to store a route. The droid can erase the contents of its astrogation buffer as a full-round action if its owner orders it to. If the droid has had its restraining bolt port removed, it can erase the contents of the astrogation buffer as a full-round action of its own free will. Alternatively, the astrogation buffer can be forcibly erased by a third party if they succeed on a Use Computer check with a DC equal to the droid's Will Defense. A Hidden Core has sufficient storage to back up 1 route from an astrogation buffer.

A droid with an astrogation buffer only takes a -5 penalty on a Use Computer check to calculate a hyperspace route in 1 round, provided the route is one that the droid has stored in its astrogation buffer. This droid accessory costs 200 credits for a buffer of 5 routes. This can be purchased twice for a total astrogation buffer size of 10 routes.

Sounds good to me.

Sai'liani'yi Vanyari:
Boy, that's a name. Would you mind if I shortened it in some way so I don't have to type it out every time OOC?

Anyway, stat block review. You have Jedi listed as class, but I think Noble is what you intended to take based on everything else in the stat block.

For languages, you start with Basic and Ryl, the Twi'lek language. Huttese is fairly common amongst the Twi'lek people, and a trade language like Bocce or Sy Bisti could be helpful. Bocce's a bit more universal whereas Sy Bisti is more of an Outer Rim language. While you can't speak it, you can take Binary to understand droids. For another trade-based species, Nemoidian wouldn't be terrible choice. Given Sai'liani'yi Vanyari's political ambitions, High Galactic could be a good choice, as well. Most beings you encounter will be able to understand Basic, and a majority will be able to speak it or have translators nearby.

As far as gear goes, I would suggest investing in a blaster pistol, regular or sporting. I have never seen a Utility Belt be a bad choice either. A datapad would probably make sense for your character, as well. Don't feel like you have to spend every credit - sometimes having a pile of credits leftover from character creation can be useful.

Backstory is okay. Still not 100% clear on why Sai'liani'yi wasn't taken to the Jedi Temple as a child to be tested for Force Sensitivity, or why the Council granted her father permission to go raise his daughter. I'd like that expanded on, or if you prefer, you can leave that open-ended as something Sai'liani'yi doesn't know, and I can fill in the blanks later.

R2-AC Ace:

Stat block generally looks good. Using the 2nd-Degree Droid stats gives you an extra +2 Dex, -2 Str in Ability Score adjustments if you want to apply those and tweak your Point Buy slightly.

You have 2 Skill Focus feats listed, and you only get 1 feat at level 1, so you'll need to pick one of those. My Skill Focus House Rule also only provides a +3 bonus at level 1, increasing to a +6 bonus at Level 10.

You also have an extra Skill (8 vs 7), so one of those will need to be dropped.

Disabled Restraining Bolts are actually a class feature of the Independent Droid prestige class. You can take levels in that class as soon as you qualify, but the restraining bolt port will be functional until then.

For Droid Systems, Accessories, and Weapons, I'm clocking you as having spent 4855 credits out of 4000 (1000 Droid Systems + 3000 Scoundrel) once I include the stun pistol, ion pistol, and licensing for both. That does not include the 2 appendages, the heuristic processor, or the wheeled locomotion you get for free. You may need to scale down some of your accessories and upgrade later.

One of the reasons I don't use the Droid Chassis system is because the focus on replicating a specific type of droid often means they end up being superior to someone who wanted to make a Custom Droid, instead of being balanced against each other. I find it smoother to just have everyone use the Custom Droid rules.

Backstory looks good. I appreciate the openings left for PC collaboration. Don't forget to list out 2 NPCs Ace knows, 2 Short Term Goals, 2 Long Term Goals, and 2 Intangible Motivations.

You also need to pick a Destiny, either a broad Destiny category, a specific Destiny you want for the character, or you can leave it entirely up to me.

Announcement: While submissions are closed later today, if you still have any final adjustments or tweaks to make to your character, either from my notes or anything you aren't happy with, you may do so. I won't make a final selection until Friday.

Feedback:
I used "Sai" in her backstory, and that's what she goes by in person anyway, so that's fine.

Yeah, I copied someone else's stat block and forgot to change the class. She is a Noble.

As far as why she wasn't taken to the Temple, there are a few factors that I thought of. First, she was being prepared to take her mother's spot on the head-clan and her father wasn't around for the majority of her life. The most likely answer is that no one knew she was Force sensitive, and her father might not even have known until the clan got a message to him.

As for why the Council "let" him leave, I had this idea floating around that he didn't really get permission to leave. Not really abandonment, per se, as he let Jedi close to him know where he was going and why, just that her father had somewhat become disillusioned with the Clone Wars. That's another reason why he didn't attempt to enforce or even teach the control the Council and Temple would have wanted Sai to undergo had she been trained officially.

That wild/untrained feel is something I plan on playing up, as I'll likely be grabbing a lot of mental Force Powers that she might not be 100% aware she is using when she uses them, like Mind Trick or Cloak and the like.

Hope this helped! Thanks for the feedback and the languages, I'll work on adding some of that into her backstory as I'm finishing her equipment.

Hey Phntm888 through a series of events I've spent the day reminding myself how much I don't enjoy learning new sets of rules for PBP. I think in lieu of the reminder, it will be better if I step away from the recruitment here. So, please remove LE-M-07d from consideration. I hope everything goes well and I will be reading along. Good luck and good gaming everyone.

Aww, that's a shame. I really liked LE's backstory.

A shame, but I understand. Thanks for the submission and letting me know.

Sincerest apologies in my delay in updating my character - the last few weeks have been particularly busy at work. I bypassed both the purchasing issue and the bureaucracy check by switching the blaster rifle to a sporting blaster rifle. As for the backstory question, I added a line about how his sister could have gotten a contraband comlink at the Jedi Temple. I hope I'm not too late.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That'll do nicely. I will note that you accidentally typed 2d6 damage for the sporting blaster rifle instead of 3d6, but that's a typo, not an issue.

Anyway, due to Robert Henry's decision to withdraw his character, and Koral Dray'ith informing me via PM that they don't have bandwidth for another game, I've got 7 submissions left. That makes this choice really easy. I'm going to accept everyone to the game.

So, everyone, go ahead over to the Discussion thread. You all made it!

Woot!

Woohoo, let’s go!

Is it okay if I use LE-M-07d as an NPC? That way you'll have an in if things change.

Ah, I was thinking something different. Independent droids are immune to all restraining bolts. I was saying that I have modified a specific restraining bolt to not work and put it on. If they use a droid caller, I would need to use deception if I wanted to play along. If somebody replaces it with a normal restraining bolt, I treat it as normal. I charged double cost for the extra work.

NPC 1: DD-37 "DeeDee" is a non-mobile droid in Imperial Logistics depot 27-B. Ace has previously decieved DD that he is part of ISB operations and gotten material moved off the books. So far, it's only been small amounts, too small to trigger auditing routines.

NPC 2: LE-M-07d (or another LE unit if Robert doesn't want me to use him). Lem is an independent repair droid set up on (spaceport). Ace went to Lem for processor upgrades, since he can't do that himself. In exchange, Ace set up a fake owner for Lem to handle the business licensing.

Short Term Goal: Find groups in opposition to the empire to help them take it down.
Short Term Goal: Destroy the clone unit that killed his jedi.

Long Term Goal: Set up a network of independent droids willing to help each other.
Long Term Goal: Set up a backup processor rigged to download his memories into a new body if he dies.

Intangible Motivation: Ensure his freedom and survival forever.
Intangible Motivation: Destroy the Empire

Ah, I understand the restraining bolt better, now. That's alright, then.

Bummer! I missed out on seeing this campaign open up! Was hoping to find a place to play my slicer/pilot duros character after he dropped from another game.

Let me know if you have any future openings and I'd be very interested in joining this one. I just have to make a few adjustments, as he's currently 4th level but pretty well fleshed out to the standards you have in character creation (though I'll have to redo his base stats, I think.)

Thanks for keeping me in mind if you get open spots!
